I want George Takei and Sir Patrick Stewart. The former because he is the coolest man on Earth, and the latter because he's the world's second-greatest actor (tied for first and second with Sir Ian McKellen).

Of course, George Takei's busy being awesome and fighting for equal rights and I heard that Sir Patrick Stewart doesn't want to go back to Trek, so getting either of them would be tough.

Realistically, Wil Wheaton would be great, because (a) he's cool and (b) he'd definitely have time to do it. William Shatner would jump at the chance, and I love his ham. Not sure about the others.

Benedict Cumberbatch would be insanely busy, but give him a role that is NOT a high-functioning sociopath and he might do it (plus, he's one of the top 3 greatest actors in the world). Sir Ian McKellen has not done any Trek work to my knowledge, but he's an awesome guy with an awesome voice. I'd love to hear him.

    My 2 slips of latinum.
love this ^^ but My opinion for possible Trek voices to come back, Johnathon Frakes (his story line did not end like picards) , Brent Spiner (i bet he would be super expensive), Tom Paris, Harry Kim, SEVEN, Kira or if Sisko wasn't too expensive, Maybe a new set of mission logs against the dominion with ventures into the gamma quadrant.
Try and understand the Chaos factor or just understand the variable, live long and live life Gee.

Another reason why it's stupid in STO is because you have tens of thousands of players supposedly doing these episode, and time-traveling over and over and over. It's a wonder the universe hasn't imploded because of that. No to mention how dumb it is for each player to be doing the episode as if they are the only ones.
You do realize that the game is supposed to be played with the intent that the events of the story only happen to YOU right? ;)

As far as the story is concerned, all the other captains out there are just regular joes. To them, you're a regular joe. That's how this sort of thing works.

of course it's a different universe. Abrams universe has nothing to do with the prime universe - nor does it have anything to do with Data. STO, like Abrams universe is stand alone. And two different universe obviously. Neither is canon, and neither can be mixed together. To do so would make the game laughable, completely ridiculous and invite the destruction of this MMORPG with more ridiculous power creep.

Actually, despite the negative opinion of some fans, Nimoy Spock in the new Universe is the same Spock from the Prime Universe which means there is a connection. The Star Trek Countdown comic book takes place entirely within the Prime Universe and STO deals with the aftermath. Did you not notice Romulus is gone? Have you not been to The Vault? Have you not heard Admiral T'nae discuss Nero and Ambassador Spock's disappearance?

Congrats on the successful journey through 2013 !!!!

    for the suggestion :
no more factions please...but u may start another server with another universe( TOS ).

if it happens, i wish to see alternate universe created during Star Trek 2009 playble.
though there is shortage of content available on this alternate reality, but we know devs can manage that....
dont know about others, but i really wish to play TOS content.

    P.S. : what about Vanguard content ?

I am pleased to see that this thread shows an overwhelming renunciation of a potential playable Borg faction :)

An expansion does NOT need a playable (mini-) faction. The amount of story content LoR brought for the Romulan Republic could easily be distributed directly to the existing factions in any future expansion. Other than that, the only real new thing the Romulan mini-faction brought to STO, were playable Warbirds. Playable Borg ships (Cubes, or even Tac Cubes) would be a ridiculous thing being controlled by a player. Ships that are as large as Earth Space Dock... No

Cryptic said they won't make an evil playable factions.
That's why our Rommies are more good rebels and less manipulating TRIBBLE.
Given the kind of things the KDF can get for Doff missions, I'm inclined to suspect that what's meant is not actually that there can't be an evil playable faction, but that the evil has to be a limited, controlled sort that allows for the faction to work with Starfleet/the Klingons and do the Featured Episodes.

    Captain Data/B4.
However, since we're going ahead with more Delta Quadrant content, I would not be surprised nor disappointed if someone from Star Trek: Voyager were seen/heard in-game...perhaps Admiral Janeway or Tuvok, but I'd actually like to see/hear Neelix!
I can't help but to wonder what he has been up to since he stayed behind to help fight for the Talaxian revolution :D
"Join Date: Jun 2012" Says Cryptic's "new" forum system. I've been here since a week before launch, but SOME stuff just didn't carry over through multiple system changes/updates.

Please do not make the mistake of introducing another "mini/pseudo-faction"... I already see the shadow of a playbale Hugh-like liberated Borg-faction looming over STO. Players flying a Cube or even a Tactical Cube? As big as player ships have gotten (Scimitar, Obelisk etc.), THIS would be the threshold to ridiculousness :-|

I would actually LOVE this, but I agree with the ship problems.
Maybe they could just repurpose some ships from other worlds that they have visited until they've proven themselves worthy of joining an already established faction?

I would like to go on-record as stating that I, too, would LOVE ^this^!!!

It would be stupid like the older time-travel episodes in the game. Because our characters don't change appearance. If they did it so that we still participate but with an altered appearance in whatever period we entered, like in Assassin's Creed, than that would be acceptable.
Another reason why it's stupid in STO is because you have tens of thousands of players supposedly doing these episode, and time-traveling over and over and over. It's a wonder the universe hasn't imploded because of that. No to mention how dumb it is for each player to be doing the episode as if they are the only ones.

Because of those reasons STO has essentially created a near infinite amount of pocket universes (even separate from Abarams universe) making STO completely separate from anything else. If Abrams garbage for example gave us a migraine with his utterly ridiculous universe, imagine the stroke you'll get thinking about the aforementioned stuff.

P.S. i'd love to see something with the NX crew but only a flashback type idea within an episode. Because we know they ended their mission and returned to earth. The Enterprise was going to be decommissioned anyway, to make way for other more advanced NX class ships
You do realize that the game is supposed to be played with the intent that the events of the story only happen to YOU right? ;)

As far as the story is concerned, all the other captains out there are just regular joes. To them, you're a regular joe. That's how this sort of thing works.

As seniorkafei pointed out, the story is based around you, and only you, being the hero. All the other Captains aren't traveling through time, they're just the "other guys". There aren't tens of thousands of Captains doing that mission, just you.

I still don't see why it would be a bad idea. Yes, we know that they finish their mission and return to Earth, but that doesn't mean that there weren't all kinds of time traveling hijinks going on before they did. The last episode of ENT was 10 years after the events of the rest of the series. That's a whole lot of missing history and leaves plenty of room for Cryptic to come up with some really cool episodes involving them. Time travel doesn't automatically mean that it changes those events either. Maybe the episode would involve us trying to preserve/restore the timeline due to something/someone (oh who am I kidding, it would be Iconians because they're behind everything) disrupting it.

Time travel is a staple of Trek. Suddenly dumping it seems to be an even worse idea to me.

    of course it's a different universe.

The Prequel comics to Star Trek XI are set in the Prime Universe.

STOs story line is set after those events, hence the Hobus super nova that destroyed Romulus and upset Nero.

The vault in the Romulan FE series is where Nero got the Borg tech to upgrade the Narada. I'm pretty sure Nero is mentioned by name in game as well.

Like it or not, they're linked.

The Feds have Leonard Nimoy, they've had him since launch.
The opening narration, level up audio and VO in the mission Past Imperfect.

Thats what the RR and KDF have now.

Denise does the Tau Dewa Sector Block narration, shes the level up narration and has various roles through out the Romulan story line.

Dorn has VO in the beginning of the KDF tutorial, he does the level up audio and has VO in several KDF missions.

Don't forget that Zachary Quinto played the EMH in the tutorial.

The next expansion needs to be "beyond 2409". Add some direction to the game's story because as it stands it a mess. the same year you graduate your promoted to vice admiral?? It brings a new definition to fast tracked career. All factions need their story expanded from the progression stories

Got to go for Brent Spiner - we already have a teaser in some of the old loading screens that he was captain of the Enterprise and it is plausible that Data (or Data II/B4) is still around...

And why can we not post to that blog entry? (link via launcher) Keeps saying "please enter a comment". Annoying...

Get him as Weyoun. I don't care what shenanigans have to be used, GET HIM IN.

And try to get Sir Patrick Stewart. Have him and Data help the PCs save the day.

And please, please give us some Iconians to shoot. Maybe get William Shatner to do all of the VOs for them? Because the thing I liked best about Hakeev was his hammy, old-school villainy. If you can get us some Shatner ham for the Iconian voices, I will die happy.

After reading that I have a huge smile on my face. Looking forward to the Delta Quadrant. It will bring the possibilities for many new race encounters, including some old ones. I suspect we will see more Hirogen, more Borg, and I am praying the Kazon.

As for who else I might be interested in seeing do voices for STO? Levar Burton definitely. Maybe also Ethan Phillips? Maybe Robert Picardo? Maybe Tim Russ? Maybe Jeri Ryan? So many choices. And all those I've named have good rapport with the fans.

I would think that Janeway, despite the bad blood that caused her to resign as described in the Path to 2409, could benefit from being added to the game; as either a civilian contact on another world, or as a specialist in the Delta Quadrant. Mulgrew has that iconic voice that no one can duplicate. I know I may be new to this game, but there is not much of the Voyager characters, aside from Naomi Wildman, Icheb.

And while I am on my Voyager rant, what happened to the Doctor? I see a different EMH in the Federation tutorial, but where's the one that first appeared in Caretaker? I've seen his history in Path to 2409, and if people are asking the Data question, it's only fair that the Doctor question should be brought up as well.

The Delta Quadrant itself could well be what they have in mind in terms of 'expansion'. I still fail to see how expansion automatically equates to new faction.
There has been no poll pertaining to which faction we'd like to see next and the last two polls that were posted asked which series we'd like more content from (Voyager won) and which DQ race we'd like to see (Krenim won that one). And I just don't see where the Cardassians would fit into content that is going to be focused on the Delta Quadrant.
Well.... how many races were in the poll the Romulans won? If they're doing a second mini faction, they simply go for whoever came in second. It doesn't really NEED to have a faction, but that would be nice.
Yeah but the last episode was forced out because Moonves decided to scrap the series for no reason. Other series were kept on with very few viewers yet he decided to scrap this one....anyway.
Well, the last ep wasn't planned as a SERIES finale it was a season finale. It ended up as a series finale, but if they had gotten another season they'd have shown it anyways.

It's a pity. I heard they were planning to do the Man-Kzin war in season5. :(

Ran into this thread with intent to ask for Jeffrey Combs (Weyoun, Shran, etc) and Andrew Robinson (Garak) VO's, looks like I'm not alone :D

As for if it's possible to bring Weyoun back... the whole concept of Vorta cloning was invented because of him, what can be said against him returning after that?

As for any characters and VO's in general that might get discarded due to the characters too old or dead. Just think how many movies there are involving historical figures, how many paintings and statues were created in earlier times... people do tend to recreate those who left a mark on history, so why is there so little of that in STO?

There was even actually an episode where Riker enjoys a holographic story about Archer, Shran and other historical figures, he is even able to be present inside and take part. Why can't we have the same or similar - actual holographic history with participation? And in a less movie-like way, why can't there be more full holographic characters based on someone famous - yes, there's Leeta, maybe someone else I can't recall, but the opportunities are nearly endless, and there are also precedents of holograms with an own mind, capable to act just like any human being...

And thanks for the letter and for all the content added to the game :)

    A few random comments.

A fourth faction, if there is one, pretty much has to be a race with some name recognition by both casual and hardcore fans alike. Aliens of the week, like the Voth or Krenim are fine for NPC factions but not for a player faction.

If a future faction is the Cardassians, they should not be merged with the Dominion. Yes, they were allies once upon a time, and the True Way terrorists are one thing (even that's a stretch though), but proper Cardies should hate the Dominion's guts.

If somehow Data 2.0 makes an appearance, I'd like to see the story of his resurrection revised a bit. I get that they used Countdown because they were lead to believe it was canon, but now that it's not Cryptic should come up with their own version. Are we really expected to believe that Data's friends would murder his brother in order to bring him back? But wait, murder is okay as long as your victim is unpopular. Obviously whoever wrote that garbage watched a very different Star Trek: The Next Generation than I did.

you also won't see borg involved as a playable unless its hugh's borg and maybe Axum/Korak's rebels together. but even these are only few in number, probably not enough to become dependent on cubes as these typically carry upwards of 50,000 drones or more and to carry too few liberated borg would invite intruders to set up a small camp in a virtually abandoned area of the cube. no, besides cubes in player hands would be way too op as well as too big. spheres are a possibility like interceptors, probes, scout cubes and such.

This. Borg ships are HUGE, and carry a crew compliment beyond compare. We're talking at least 50k crew, and potentially 130k. One of these ships is easily a match for an entire fleet (the STF versions of the ship do not do her justice, honestly, though a contantly active BFaW and CSV probably wouldn't go over well with the players. :D). There is no way in hell Cryptic would release this ship for use by players (at least I hope not.) Fortunately, the Borg DO build smaller ships.

Probes, Spheres, and Diamonds could show up as lower tier ships. A smaller cube, maybe 1k on a side (making a Sovereign fit inside of it in any orientation), could be a possibility. But that would be the largest ship I could see a renegade set of drones or mini-collective operating, because they can't crew a huge ship like a cube with their limited numbers. JMNSHO, at least....

And do I really want to see this? I'm not sure. What more would this bring for the player base? And what of the playable Borg already available? I'm not sure Cryptic's willing to offend the sort of folks who will fork over $400 all at once by undoing one of their perks...

The only Borg I could imagine them doing was the Borg Cooperative as a weaker alternative. Don't know quite how they'd play though, since they resorted to relatively sinister methods to get what they wanted, and I'm not sure how that would factor into the gameplay; other than having some sort of hive mind link healing buff between your "captain" and their NPC Borg bridge officers/other player Borg characters when teamed up.

EDIT: Actually the hive mind link should probably be different depending on profession, so when teamed with other Borg players or Borg NPC's: Tactical gives a minor team wide boost to CrtH & CrtD; Engineering gives a minor team wide boost to damage resistance and shield regen; and Science would give a minor team wide power debuff and health regen boost. If your Borg captain character is playing without one other Borg NPC/player character then you don't get the buffs.

I think STO can do some justice, and bring DATA back to life...

We all know B-4 is still running, and I am sure by now his neural pathways have developed more. So to bring B4 back would be fantastic. Also finding out the Lore was never stripped down, just left un touched would be another twist to, what I would say would be a fantastic Season 9 spinner... Yes the pun is at the end of the sentence!!

I would like to say thankyou for the amazing content you have brought us in just a year. And we look forward to more!

there should be a challenge that is optional where you start in the delta quadrant and have to travel home like the way voyager did, (but a bit faster) it would take a lot of developing but would be loads of fun with random events happening etc

Personally i like Jeffrey Combs in every his role.

From 2014 STO I expecting any story evolution, we can not be hooked in one year(2409).
And at least one new game mechanics, like revamped ground - current half-breed between
shooter and point'n'click is for me very weak.

Oh I agree with almost all of the suggestions for Voice Overs in the game mentioned thus far. But there is a pair I would love to have interact with each other, Robert Picardo and Ethan Philips, AKA the Doctor and Neelix. Perhaps as we explore more of the new frontiers opened up by the Iconian Gateways we would come across both of them in some far away station. I can imagine Neelix is with a copy of the Doctor flying around trying to make a Delta Quadrant version of the Federation when they journey into the Dyson Sphere or we rescue them somewhere from who knows what? Those darned gateways have certainly shrunk the galaxy, haven't they? LOL

    yep... gateways... gateways everywhere...
even on Andromeda  (and that ones are active if you read one of the secondary consoles on Sphere of influence:D) but if you seen one of the fleet action who appeared with sphere of influence most of them on federation and klingon space are been disabled for security concerns (no one knows what could fly out of that thinks)

but really exploration do need a BIG MAJOR REVAMP!!! some people in my fleet (me included)
just can't complete the firsts contacts missions!!! (besides the fact that exploration mission are pretty boring now with all the cool thinks we can do (read battlezone)
