Please do not make the mistake of introducing another "mini/pseudo-faction"... I already see the shadow of a playbale Hugh-like liberated Borg-faction looming over STO. Players flying a Cube or even a Tactical Cube? As big as player ships have gotten (Scimitar, Obelisk etc.), THIS would be the threshold to ridiculousness :-|

What STO really needs is more consolidation, even tho "Revamped Crafting/PvP/Exploration" doesn't sound as shiny as "Playbale Borg Cubes with big fat laser-mini-guns and free beer". I know you guys need to keep the game profitable...

As for new VOs: KDF has Michael Dorn, Romulans have Denise Crosby... Now the Feds need "their" celebrity. Replace T'Nae or Adm. Quinn with Adm. Riker, Adm. Data or Adm. Janeway (voiced by Frakes, Spiner and Mulgrew, respectively).

    Admiral Riker.

Yeah, I can see that. Give him Quinn's place.

It would certainly make my visits to ESD on my low level toon more enjoyable.

Snapp ! I forgot about the doctor!

Yes definitely a Robert Picardo VO too please, (but if you have to chose between him or Jerri Ryan...... TOTALLY go with Jerri :D )

You know, the Doctor and Data would be the only one's unchanged in this time period. They should be in the game somehow. It's not like they aged.
I'd love a Mark I Doctor inspired bridge officer !

    Cryptic,

Glad to hear that 2013 was the best STO year yet!:)

I'm hoping the new expansion will be the Cardassians, also as mini-faction, to simply get them into the game. (After that, the Dominion would be my pick for the 5th faction coming out. However, I would make this third expansion a major one, in which the Dominion is launched as a full faction, and the Romulans and Cardassians are upgraded to full faction status as well. But that is a few years off, so back to the near future.)

    Voice Overs
    1) Garak (voiced by Robinson) for the Cardassians (if this is the new faction for Season 10)

    AND

    2)Jeri Ryan as 7 of 9 OR
3)Robert Picardo as "The Doctor" for season 9, as we investigate more into the Delta quadrant.

Things I would still like to see, as a HUGE Romulan fan, if you guys have time, is the creation of one more playable Romulan faction race, the Suliban. I would also like to see the Advanced Communication array migrate over to Romulan cruisers, as without it, I personally see no need to fly one. Other then that, a few more Romulan costumes would be great, but all of these are if you have some time, as I think a 4th mini faction is the best way to go!:)

Expansion into Delta Quadrant ... does that equal Voth faction?

First, can you tell us what that concept art is or is knowledge of it [REDACTED] for now?

Second; Jeri Ryan for sure! Otherwise Patrick Stewart, LeVar Burton, Robert Picardo, or Tim Russ for sure.

Third; I would love a Cardassian Faction to play with. Also, you guys could potentially pull off a two-for and do TWO factions.

Which brings me to what people are forgetting about from the last polls...with a new Expansion and possible new Faction...three words...

    The Krenim Imperium

I think STO could really outdo itself and do both a Cardassian and Krenim Faction in the game.

The Cardassian Faction to expand on the conflict between the Cardassian Planetary Defense Forces/ Detapa Council and True Way.

The Krenim as a faction to show the conflict between them and the Iconians and their Servitor Races. (Because really...the way the Krenim are shown to function in the series...they would be the most likely to get wind of the whole mess with the Iconian Gateways).

A Voth faction kinda words to as it seems they are rather popular with the player base (Frickin' Laser beams kinda helps and everything is better with Dinosaurs!).

The only way a Borg-faction works if it is Unimatrix 0 and they rejected the Borg ships for making their own smaller/leaner vessels while not being OPed to death. X_X

But in reality, I would rather see the Krenim and Cardassians as factions at the end of 2014. Also, is it quite possible the Sphere-Builders from the Xindi Arc of Enterprise are an Iconian Servitor Race as well? It would explain A LOT about their interests.

i dont get it. the bajoran worm hole, its right there. a door way right into the middle of a different quadrant. how can our captain have come this far, and never spent any time flying around there? i dont get the impression that part of the peace between the dominion and federation is that we absolutely stay out of the gamma quadrant or else, and if theres going to be a new faction, dominion is the only one that makes much sense.
Um, well, actually, yes it is. that was one of the stipulations of the Treaty of Bajor. It gets mentioned twice in the 2800 FE series.

When you're talking to Loriss you can discuss the terms of the treaty, one of which is basically "stay on your side of the wormhole and we'll stay on ours".

Then in Operation Gamma, Eraun says "By all rights I should execute you as well." Why? because you're intruding in Dominion Space.

But... if we get a Dominion Faction that treaty stipulation could be lifted as part of some sort of cooperation agreement.

Around the release period of the 2800 FE series, it was confirmed that the E had returned to Earth and was decommissioned. Data also chose to retire and became a teacher at Oxford, rather than Cambridge from "All Good Things" if I remember correctly.

A piece of fiction was written about this in the Star Trek Magazine.

Hm, if you look closely at the screenshot, those consoles at the bottom look like Voth consoles.
So I guess it is Voth technology after all.

In the Reputation cutscenes, it is stated that the star of the Sphere was altered somehow, and that it has less energy output then it should have, because of some "large scale industrial accident".

In the Ground Battle Zone, there is a Solanae data entry about the Iconian's arrival at the Sphere. The Iconians wanted the Solanae to "tap the star" and to create more Omega Particles.

I guess the star is somehow involved in the creation of those Omega Particles. The Solanae made a mistake, something happened to the star and the Dyson Sphere was flooded with Tetryon Radiation, forcing the Solanae to retreat to subspace because their biological makeup was altered and made it impossible for them to survive in our space time continuum any longer.

It stands to reason that we see a Solanae base in the corona of the Sphere's central star, that was imperative in the creation process of Omega Particles, and that the Voth found it and are actively trying to jumpstart the creation of new particles for their own use.

Of course that would only mean to flood the Sphere anew with Tetryon radiation... or worse, every Omega Particle stored there detonates and subspace is destroyed in half the Galaxy, effectively eliminating modern FTL-civilizations in the blast radius.
    Reality is an illusion.
    The universe is a hologram.

Really looking forward to the upcoming year and loving the content recently added, I find myself wishing I had started playing back when STO first started up :)

Just wanted to add as well that after reading the letter from the devs that you guys give a sense of caring for the game and community that I haven't seen since pre EA days of Ultima Online when Origin was running the show. After many years of SOE, Blizzard and recently Bioware (worst of the lot for not giving a toss) its like coming back home to the old days of 3rd Dawn in UO :D

    +1

The man has an excellent voice, perfect diction and dialect.

I second the nomination for Jeffrey Combs, for Weyoun and Shran,

and maybe also Michael Anthony "Marc" Alaimo (Gul-Dukat, Anso) or Andrew Robinson (Elam Garek) and Casy Biggs (Demar)...each are wonderful character development and have stage presence.

In no particular order; Robert Picardo, John DeLancie, and Jeffrey Combs. Combs in particular might be beneficial to you, as he has enough vocal range to be a new and original character instead of just doing Shran or Weyoun again. Might be fun to make him a critical Romulan character, for instance, or a Cardassian if you absolutely must tie him to something DS9-related.

Still don't understand why you guys are so big about keeping secrets.
Because if they spill everything, people assume they're making promises and throw hissy fits when the devs' plans change and/or they fail to deliver. Secrecy, while alienating, quells more fan-rage than it creates and frees them from even assumed obligations so that they can be more fluid with their plan alterations.

Probably because Data's resurrection was kinda dumb. Granted, killing Data off in the first place was dumb too, but two dumbs don't make a smart.

Ah yes, I forgot to mention it in my earlier post, but along with Kate Mulgrew, Robert Picardo and Tim Russ (as per the 'Delta Quadrant theme), Andrew Robinson and Jeffrey Combs (for general purposes), I'd reeeeaaally love to see John de Lancie do some Q.

I mean, I like the Q we've got, but I'd like to see the original appear in maybe some story content involving Q. All we've got so far is one episode related to any Q, and I think it's Fed-only. Imagine how much fun a featured episode with Q voiced by John de Lancie could be.

Also, for all the people complaining about going to the Delta quadrant instead of the Gamma quadrant, hush. The Delta quadrant has a lot more material Cryptic can work with in regards to creating content that has a meaningful impact on Star Trek fans. Anything they do in the Gamma quadrant will require making stuff up for the most part, which while neat, isn't going to resonate with the fanbase quite as much (like all those people who whine about Cryptic-designed starships). While I'd love to see what they do with the Gamma quadrant, doing this first makes a lot more sense from just about any standpoint.

Well, the game happens to be in the future and we have a lot of androids on our bridges, so what if, lets sey, a memory chip from Data's brain has survived and now found on some God forgotten planet. Is it hard to build a new body for him? I think not. I can't see anything dumb in it.

Nice article, id like to see Garek the Cardassian Union, currently head of the True Way facton of Cardassia. Id even like to see Jeffrey Combs, reprise any roles he has done, my favorite when he was an Andorian on ENT, however i want to see the story go forward so, perhaps as Weyoun head of the New Alpha Quadrant Jem'Had along with that of the Cardassians.

I was wanting to play STO since before it's release. By the time it was released, I couldn't afford it. July of this year was the first time I got to play. Thank you for making it F2P, and for all the hard work everyone has done on the game.

As far as a race I would like to see from the Delta quadrant, I would rather see a new race that nothing has been known about yet. Something original. It could be a race that the war between the Borg and Undine stirred up.

I also think that the ability to fly a limited Borg cube would be awesome. What I mean by limited is that alone, they are equal to a level 30 or 40 ship. When they are in a team with tactical captains, they get a tactical bonus, engineering captains give an engineering bonus, and the same for science captains in the team.

This would make sense, because it would require the Federation, or KDF to go through an extensive overhaul to be able to run a cube, and they could never operate it as efficiently as the Borg.

In a full tactical, engineering, or science team, it could be made no more powerful as the top quality C-Store, or fleet ships. This would keep them from being overpowered. It will also give players who would just love to fly one be able to do so. 50,000 in the C-Store would be a good price also.

Awesome work so far. I can't wait to see what the future holds.

I hope it's cardassian. That would make the most sense gamewise since they can be set up like the romulans. If they're coming in, than garak would be an awesome vo addition. i dont think any other race had enough canon content to build a faction off of. other than the immense design and programming stuff, the biggest hurdle would be the galor from the lockbox. :/

Great job in 2013 devs! Looking forward to 2014!

Here are a few things i hope make it onto your 2014 to-do list:

    1. Fed Ship bridge and interiors of the quality of LoR ship interiors
    2. Bridge customization (perhaps smart glass displays similar to oddy bridge and rom ship bridges)
    3. Activities that give us a reason to spend time on our ships.
    4. Odyssey Uniform Admiral variant (see ds9 admiral uniform)
    5. Fed/Klingon armistice! Free transit to klingon space and planets.
6.More ground battle zones like Dyson sphere! (maybe on a quarantined planet with extremely dangerous life forms)
    7.Exploration/First Contact rep system

    thanks, in advance,

This would be unnecessary. As mentioned in other posts, Data is already alive. In fact, he is alive again in at least three different continuities:

    • Data is alive and Captain of the Enterprise-E in in the Abramsverse thanks to a prequel comic book to the 2009 Star Trek film.
    • Data is alive in a brand new state-of-the-art non-green body thanks to his "father" in the Star Trek: Cold Equations novels.
    • Data is alive in the 2409 Star Trek Online universe thanks to a short story (co-starring Capt. Va'kel Shon) that appeared in Star Trek magazine.

Maybe someday Cryptic will reprint all of those Star Trek Magazine-exclusive stories into another novel.

Nice letter from STO Team. Yep, 2013 was a great year for STO. Thank You too for giving us an awesome Star Trek game experience. I have to admit this is the best MMO i ever played in like 10-12 years of online gaming. You are really great, keep it up. And I cant wait for 2014 and what updates are in plan. I bet its gonna be even more awesome :)

About what character would I like in the game. I would like to see and hear Brent Spiner and Robert Picardo. Their Star Trek characters dont age so they could fit the 2409 timeframe. And since Data and Enterprise E are curently lost, I sure would like to see what had happened. And not to mention it would bring back one of my all time favorite ships, Enterprise E, hoping with even a soucer separation since the original designers included that in schetches and art work but was never used in shows.

And last but not least, probably one of the best, I would like to see and hear Sir Patrick Steward. This year was finally ported for PC from consoles a game called Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, in wich he gives his voice to a secondary character and to the narator, and his voice enriched so much that game. And it seems he did it for the sequel too wich will apear next year. So its not like he is not doing VO games anymore, but its more about convenience, since i dont think he will travel outside UK, since KONAMI went to London and recorded VO there. So I think he would do STO VO too, maybe thru skype... He maybe not a Star Trek fan but he did VO most of the Star Trek games outthere. And to fit the 2409 time a Baku side efect or other twist could be invented to keep his apearence not changed much.

Many thanks to all the Cryptic team everything this past year has been amazing. Legacy of Romulus and Dyson Sphere have been amazing the storyline so far has been very interesting.

Will there be any chances that this ship http://imgur.com/a/vzwIH
Will ever make an appearance it was designed by the guy that came second in the design the enterprise competition and has to be one of the best and simplest designs ever.

That and can we find out what happened to the Enterprise E and Data I know he was the captain and the E disappeared we are hoping that there is some closure to this as we now have the Enterprise F and there is no sign of the E or Data anywhere in star fleet.

I really do hope that they are going to release a new faction such as Cardassian or Liberated Borg.

It will be no problem to make new ships for these factions. Quite awesome to moving around in the Delta quadrant sectors with a Borg cube, sphere or the diamond.

If it will be the Cardassian and possibly together with the Jem'Hadar, Vorta, The Founder and the Breen.

We have the ships now for that part to make a Cardassian faction. Maybe they will share the part with the Iconian and the Dyson sphere.

I hate to say this but now we have the Dyson sphere with the Voth that take place in the Delta quadrant then they don't do yet the Gamma quadrant.

I suspect we will hear the next voice over for the Delta quadrant and it will be for example Jeri Ryan and many more from Star Trek Voyager.

But anything can change for next year.

I hope we get the Constellation class for the 4th anniversary.
