not since the Borg started doing the snake warp thing.....

Nice blog. Would've liked to see more detail about tactics in Ker'rat (both Fed and KDF) or links to any helpful player guides. I get wiped every single time I visit Ker'rat and never get anywhere close to completing the PvE objectives. :)

Has anyone ever solo-ed this? Any observations to share?

Long live Kerrat! Does this mean it will get fixed? And please, please let me swap to the other faction when I want to get a good PvP fight!

    Obligatory requests aside, nice blog!
I ask nothing but that you remember me.

Sorry, but I feel that most of your advertisement is a load of TRIBBLE. I'll tell you exactly what you can expect when you warp into Ker'rat: Most of the time, expect to get <removed> as soon as you get there due to spawn-camping. It doesn't matter which faction, they both do it. Somehow this is fun. Probably the same group folks who think using aimbots in FPS games is fun as well.

"You honorless KDF scum. While Starfleet and its allies take care to contain the Borg from spreading out of the neutral zone, you cowardly scum hide behind your cloaks waiting for a Starfleet ship weakened by the borg to commence your pirate attacks. You are too cowardly to face the borg on your own and can only attack ships that are already in combat.

You bring shame and dishonor to your house and shall be hunted down like the Targ you are."

    Added standard Fed reply.

    due to spawn-camping

The "spawn-camping" issue was recently addressed and should be resolved now.

    Cheers,

Sorry, but I feel that most of your response is a load of TRIBBLE.

I go to Ker'rat often. It is rare that I see any spawn camping.

In any event... it is a persistent war zone. Which faction dominates it and the manner in which it is dominated is constantly changing. As it should.

What is the dilithium reward you speak of here? Is it just a klingon thing?

I remember going there when I first started playing STO. I think it was probably a month before I found out it was a PvP zone, or I guess a PvPvE zone. Next to no one there when I went in and I only found out about the PvP aspect when I started reading the Wiki and forums on a more regular basis.

I more or less STOPPED going there about a year ago while playing my first KDF character. I got a mission that was basically telling me to die at the hands of another player 25 times to finish it. At the time I knew it was a PvP zone but with no one there it was difficult to finish that mission.

Until that is, one day (about a week after getting the mission) I found some other folks there actually PvP'ing. so I waded into the lot of them and dropped my cloak and let them kill me. Only 24 more times to go. Upon respawning I found someone camping the spawn point and they quickly blew me up again. I started thinking to myself this wil go quick and I can finally get this mission done. Respawn, dead. Respawn, dead. Respawn... eh, you get the point.

Anyway, with about 10 deaths to go the spawn camper sent me a tell saying they'd "let me go" if I'd just fight back. I responded and told them that I was simply trying to complete a mission that required me to die 25 times to another player. They lol'd and left the spawn point. I respawned and waited to be blown up again.

    Nothing.

So I ventured out into the zone again and found where the main group of PvP'ers was and waded into the fighting. They all kept shooting each other, but none of them fired on me. After about 5 minutes of following the group around I received another tell from a different player telling me to leave. They said that the first person who sent me a tell informed everyone else in his group and told them not to shoot at me so I couldn't finish my mission.

Here I was, fresh meat WANTING to be ganked and blown up and they "trolled" me by letting me live. I switched instances in the hopes there was PvP going on in another zone, but no luck. I really hated to drop the mission, since it rewarded Dilithium and at the time I didn't exactly know how easy it was to get, but I was tired of going out of my way trying to finish the mission every day only to not be able to.

I normally wouldn't actively PvP unless I felt the rewards were worth it. The only reason I'd tried it here was because dying was the way to get the reward and I figured it'd be easy enough to finish. Guess again.

Oh well, for the folks who like PvP, enjoy.

Haven't been there in over a year and wish they'd just kind of nuke it out of existence. Maybe if they buffed the hell out of the Borg to put the 'vE' back into things, then make it so the losing team gets nothing so there is actual motivation to try and complete the objective for both sides, might be more interesting instead of just violence for violence sake.

    Ahhh good ol' Ker'rat.

Given me the best LOL I have ever had in this game. I had just gotten my new (At the time ) Engineer a promotion and grabbed him a Galaxy from shipyard, wasn't really fitted, just the MK X weaps it came with etc and thought I would head ot Ker'rat since the PVP daily was up.

Few mins there and sure enough the big unaccompanied cruiser gets jumped by a wolfpack of 5 BoP's. They were throwing their shots and I was barely bothering to tank (Oddly enough there was no need) and in return was popping them off quite easily.

After a few rounds of this one of them pipes up in tell and starts accusing me of cheating and all sorts of abuse because there was "No way" I could stand that 5-1 assault so I have to be cheating blah blah. Blew him up again.

What I didn't have the heart to tell the mouthy little prat was he hadn't even bothered to install shields on his ship. He was flying bare hull, in a PVP zone and it was through miraculous cheats he was exploding. I was just too busy laughing to tell him.

Oh well daily was done now time to go back to regular dull - Warped out still laughing...

Ker'rat, might not be the best place if your ships not up to PVP standards, but it's great for the LOLz sometimes :D

Lol! I just love how they pretty much ignore the broken-ness of the zone! :D

If something is quiet/completely dead, it's probably for a good reason. I.e. broken, unbalanced or just a load of cr*p etc.

@ wolfpacknz: That's...that's...wow, that's some industrial-grade stupid right there. Going into an active war zone with no shields on you wimpy little BOP???? That's...wow, I don't even have words for how little sympathy I have for that guy.

There's being a newbie, which is fine, and then there is active stupidity, which is not.

On another note, I have found that PvPvE zones tend to bring out the worst in players, in any game. There'll be the trolls spawn-camping and ganking n00bs because they find it amusing in their sad little way, there'll be some guy hopelessly trying to get stuff done and getting killed by the enemies and the opposing players over and over, and there will be about fifty other people throwing abuse at each other over zone chat.

It's the same in every game. No offense to the dev team, who I'm sure have worked very hard on Ker'rat, but I'm not going in there anytime soon. If I want to fight the Borg, I'll run Cure Found elites, which give me dilithium, marks, and neural processors which can be turned in for dil instead of just dil, and I'll visit the shipyard if I get blown to bits.

Also, we have our first gratuitous overreaction of the day! Deleted guy, if you violate the rules, the moderators and devs will take action as outlined in those rules. That's not communism, that's just competent forum moderation.

Off-topic, but needs to be said: I'm loving the new expansion. For all of its faults and bugs, it's made dilithium farming super easy. Thank you, devs.

We need 2 systems one with pve+PVP and one just pvp no Borg maybe 2 starbases on either side of map kdf+fed and most of all NO RESET. The reset is the most annoying aspect of pvp in kerrat.

Sounds like fun.. Oh wait I remember this place, yea fighting borg on multiple sides and low and behold 5 KDF Birds decloak, kill me, cloak and repeat.. Til all the Feds are wiped out.. Fun yes.. Oh wait the opposite of fun.. And since when are KDF at all useful against the Borg? They are not, were not, and never will be. The Federation has created ALL of the alpha quadrant's defenses against total assimilation.. Play the STFs see how 'useful" the KDF is.. Makes better drones and assimilated ships (carrier). Not to mention what "reward" for the idiotic stacked against FED frustration? NOTHING of note. Maybe My KDF needs to join in and get paid? Who know maybe fighting a one sided CLOAK and dagger.. Nope end that thought I fight with HONOR as my KDF, Qapla!!!!!!

Played it today as a Fed char as well as a Klingon one. And spawn camping still happens. Whatever you did it does NOT work at all.

On the other hand this constant and annoying 'warping in' by Borg ships still happens. You should concentrate your effort on fixing THAT.

I usually spawn far below the objectives, like ten seconds at full impulse.

I also feel like there is something off about how the borg absorb damage in the zone, like I have to shoot them at a diagonal to kill them? Hard to explain a "feel".

I usually fly into kerrat in off hours to farm mk XII gear. On the exchange, the disruptor induction coils I want go for a steep 28 million ec, so I'll probably be farming for a while.

Sometimes I just feel like I'm playing the game wrong.

While I like the spotlight being shined on ker'rat, I think that simply telling people about it and giving somewhat vague tutorials in what to do there is the wrong way to do it. Ker'rat-while it may not have been intented- is filled with active pvp'ers, who are more likely to put off rather than encourage new players, even if only because of the huge difference in gear/money spent, without even touching controversial terms like 'skill'. Personally, i'd prefer to see people at least directed to bootcamp as well, as this would increase the chance of said new players having some of the advice/skill they will need in ker'rat; then the new players might actually enjoy it more, instead of having a bad experience and avoiding it from the on.

LOL. Ker'rat is one of the most broken, unbalanced, and un-fun bits of content that Cryptic has come up with. It's even sad that Dan could not "Nuke it from orbit" like he said he wanted to do some years back.

Ker'rat would be nearly perfect if, not for those headache inducing warprepeating npc's.

It has nice tasty sweet bait to draw in prey for the predators. And predators are the only things worth hunting.

The thought that some players have, in that they should be able to graze unmolested in a war zone, makes me laugh sadly.
