Listen, if you want people like me to stop ******** and moaning over what you think is trivial or unimportant in regards to the problems in the game, then I present to you, and the devs and coders my mantra: WORK HARDER.
You have obviously never worked in game design. I have.
If you think these guys dont work their asses off you are deluded. Not that long ago EA was sued for their horrible working conditions and ultra long crunch hours (dead serious about this, making people work 80-90 hours a week).
Do not sit here and act like you have any idea what the life of a game developer is like until youve walked in those shoes.
Once again I will reiterate my previous response: Shut up. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about you daft little whiny child.

By the sounds of things, you would put STO's source code at the same level as "Hello World." I am sorry, but this is not how it works. I am in Electrical Engineering, so I dodged most of the programming (I preferred hardware work) however I have witnessed programmers at work and have done some myself (at a relatively simple level). I can tell you that your expectations are unrealistic.
Any modern MMORPG has to simultaneously sync data from thousands of computers, allowing for any player to interact with any other in real time, existing in the same world. This adds a level of complexity to the code which essentially turns it from "ridiculously complex" to "insane."
It is not possible to anticipate some of these interactions. The system itself if fundamentally chaotic. I have never seen some of the bugs that you still run into. Why? I don't know. Perhaps my system just works a little better with that part of the code, or is allocating memory in such a way as to already get around a bug. Yours is different, and may not. With thousands of computers running something, you will see a lot of rare yet fairly serious bugs. Predicting where they pop up and how to prevent them is an exercise in futility.
The fact that they managed to track down and fix anything within a few days of release means that some programmers probably left their spouses and children at home while they pulled 36 hours straight of work trying to get this fixed. They had to go over millions of lines of code line by line, running every conceivable simulation and probably writing their own test programs on top of that.
I would like to see that level of commitment to quality in the OPs analysis.
You have obviously never worked in game design. I have.

Apparently, since the start of this thread, a lot of users, three in particular, have seen it fit to attack me. So, it looks like I'll have to make this clear, and run the risk of sounding like a broken record.
There are a bunch of pundits and gamers who are telling people like me to "stop complaining" and to "stop whining" and to "stop feeling entitled." But here's the thing, you absolutely SHOULD complain, and you absolutely SHOULD whine, because while gamers can throw temper tantrums over the stupidest things, in this case, I, along with those who agree with me, are absolutely, morally, and intellectually 100% justified. Because if we're shelling out money each month in monthly subscriptions, as well as the non-subscribers who buy PWE cards to play a game that half the time doesn't function properly, and you ARE NOT complaining, THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU. And by doing that, you are acting as an accessory to the problem that the gaming industry has:
Publishers and developers who think they can do whatever they like to the consumer, and the consumer will utterly eat that TRIBBLE up with a big spoon, people like rylanadionysis and sopwithsnipe will attack me and other people who are unhappy about eating TRIBBLE, and they'll tell me to stop whining about the TRIBBLE, because the TRIBBLE tastes great, and they don't care that they're eating TRIBBLE. They're just happy to even get TRIBBLE to eat, because eating TRIBBLE is certainly better than not eating at all, so let's be grateful to the bountiful buttocks that's dribbling in our faces and in our mouths with so much TRIBBLE!
The problems that are hampering STO, no matter how trivial, is just making the game embarrassing. The problem with being unable to see the graphics rezz to their full potential, having proper organization with things such as department heads/duty officers, along with server hiccups that TRIBBLE with STFs and wind up costing players an optional, or completely fail in KASE because the IKS Kang got blown to smitherines; it's absolutely disgraceful! And for Cryptic/PWE to have bugs and issues from when the game first hit open beta, is just inexcusable; you have every right to be upset at this nonsense.
Those who have attacked me have tried to justify the developers complacency, and I choose to call it complacency because that's what it is, considering new issues arise from every new patch they put out, by telling me that I don't know what I'm talking about. And telling me to get off their backs and telling me about their experience with coding, and programming that I know nothing about. Yes, I'm fully aware about the hard work and troubles that the developers go through, with the server hiccups and the like. But let me tell my attackers something: That's Cryptic/PWE's problem. That's Cryptic/PWE's problem EXCLUSIVELY. Yes, it might seem trivial to the developers and coders, but that's not MY problem. That's not YOUR problem. By basically ignoring our grievances, Cryptic/PWE just basically took its personal problems and made them EVERYBODY'S problem, which is indicative of the state of video games right now. This idea that a corporation has an issue, it can happily spread that issue to its' paying customers like a bloody infection; WE have to jump through hoops and tackle new challenges in the place of people with the actual hoops and challenges.
Look, I don't give a damn anymore, ok? You can validate the woes of the game and the workload of the employees any which way you like, but I do not give a chimpanzee's vaginal cyst about ANY OF THAT. Because there is absolutely NO EXCUSE for being unable to offer a service for which Cryptic/PWE has taken an exhuberent amount of money for. There's just simply no excuse. And it's sad to see people like the one's I mentioned defending it, and telling me and others to stop being upset.
I heard of a guy who worked for the industry who had an associate tell him that he was upset about STO's issues, but he didn't want to complain because he'd feel spoiled and entitled. NO! No, it's not "spoiled" to complain about this. The issue about gamer entitlement can be debated in certain issues of taste and preference. But in this case? NO! Gamers can act entitled here, because THEY ARE entitled; they're entitled to play a game they paid good freaking money for. They're entitled to a smooth running service.
Look, I get why some people would not want to complain. The gamer community has a hard time understanding that YOU CAN complain about the things you love at times. And I believe people want to attack me, and defend the negligence of the coders/developers because they think that to attack them, would be to attack STO as a piece of entertainment. But no, if you love something, then that's all the more reason to attack it harder. Because when we love something, criticizing that which holds it back is the best thing we can do.
I adore Star Trek Online, personally. And I've been having a blast with the STF's and events and missions that come about, as well as trying out all new ships and officers, and equipment, and server hiccups and small bugs don't hinder the game as much. But that's all the more reason to be angry. Because we have an industry were great games, remarkably wonderful games, are being chained to utterly awful business practices that directly damage them and harm an otherwise beautiful experience.
And to just sit back and let that happen only makes you a willing accomplice in that harm.
No, in the case of STO's bug, patch, and glitch problems, you should definately throw your hissy fits, and you should very much whine. ESPECIALLY IF YOU LOVE IT. To rylanadionysis and sopwithsnipe, the entitlement debate HAS NO PLACE HERE. There is NO discussion to be had. I'm paying for something, Cryptic/PWE/Branflakes and the coders and developers failed me by ignoring the problems, and even going as far as making their problems my problems, and I am 100% am entitled to be ******n unhappy about that.
The OP can't even come up with an original rant. Not only Has he plagiarized Foamy the Squirrel's rant on "Patches and Updates", he misunderstood that the rant he stole from was addressing console games being released with day 1 patches and updates, and had nothing to do with MMO's.
So no matter what his motivation was (serious or troll) when he posted, he is a complete clueless failure.
You can find this particular Foamy's rant "Patches & Updates" on youtube or illwill press. I won't link it because the language violates forum rules.
That doesn't make what Foamy said any less true. Plagiarized or no, the BS going on here with the game, along with the industry as a whole, is pointed out by him. I've already made a rebuttal to the lot of my attackers in post #44, and while not original, it is glaringly laden with fact and truth. Thank god for Jim Sterling.
Dude, you plagiarized a cartoon squirrel. Nothing you say has any credibility. Go back under your bridge.
Shoo.
And the only reason I can think of why you're resorting to the plagiarism argument, when what's being said is true, just pretty much boils down to YOU'RE A FREAKING COWARD! You are being a complete coward.

No, the game isn't "ruined", but to a certain degree the OP is correct. There's no question STO has quite a lot of bugs, and in many cases very long standing ones. They may not be breaking the game, but they are irritating and detract from the enjoyment of playing. I'm not at all decrying "DOOOOOM!" for STO, however, I do agree with those who have posted that STO needs a serious QA pass. Cryptic could also do much, much better with their internal QA and testing before releasing.
Indeed, a lot needs to be done with the game. But what makes OP so hilarious is he expects it right now this instant. Anyone with half a brain knows thats completely impossible. It would take literal months to fix everything, maybe even longer.
So while I wait patiently for a bug bash someday, I will continue to amuse myself by watching OP stamp his feet like my son.

A RANT is NEVER the answer... you take you data, you work with it and you present it in a well thought out and logical manner to the intended recipient.
And one really REALLY important thing you have to consider: Leave your feelings outside and lock the door!
Especially when working with such a Volatile Topic!
I'll give him the bug argument. This game has a ridiculous amount of bugs. Everytime they put out something new it trolls up tons of old bugs.
Fortunately most of the bugs arn't considered devastatingly game breaking, but still a bit annoying. And they're continuing to stack up because they're constantly being less prioritized by Cryptic and pushed down to the bottom of their to-do list.
This will come back to bite them in the TRIBBLE at some point.
Server hiccups, glitches, disconnects, department heads getting randomly switched up, and a variety of issues that get addressed, but never resolved or repaired. So this forum post is targeted toward Branflakes, the coders, the developers, and all others related to this game. FIX IT NOW. I am sick and tired of ESD not looking like it's fully rezzed, and my department heads not being who they are or where they're supposed to be. Why is it so hard for you people to make a proper patch that doesn't TRIBBLE the entire game up?
Seems every time a new season of STO comes out, there's always a day 1 patch, to fix some freaking bug, glitch, or brick inducing line of code that some TRIBBLE in Cryptic/PWE couldn't fix prior to release! And these patches wind up causing more bugs and glitches than it does actually repairing the game!! WHY!? Why is this happening?
It's not like you people at Cryptic are Kickstarting STO with the change they had hidden away in a mid-80's jar under their mattress, in conjunction with a small loan from their mother.
Most game developers and game companies, have millions of dollars at their disposal, to have, on hand, the hired resources needed to roll out a finished product. And yet, THEY NEVER ROLL OUT A FINISHED PRODUCT! WHY!?
And yes, I'm expecting users to attack me for making this argument, or people making an explanation for the developers saying, "the systems and games are more complex, and therefor more prone to more errors and failures" To hell with that, people. And Branflakes, you and your people had better be listening well! If you idiots who are the developers and coders of this game CANNOT handle the future, then go back to 8-bit, and stop bothering gamers with your half-baked BS!!!!!!
I don't recall people having this problem on the original Nintendo. Basically, you just put the game in, power it up, and played your game. That was it.
Nowadays, you turn on the game on your computer or system, and there's 6 different updates that takes 25 minutes apiece, then you have to do a 45 minute mandatory game install, then you have to patch the game, restart the game, and then, finally, FINALLY.......finally you can sit down and----AWWWWW! Now I gotta go to work! Well...that was fun...I just basically played 146 minutes of PATCHES AND UPDATES! Well worth the money I dish out in PWE cards every freaking month I can afford it.
So, to all the developers, coders, community managers and the rest, I say to you this advice. Remember this well, idiots: STOP RUSHING YOUR GAME DEVELOPMENT IN ORDER TO MEET SOME QUARTERLY STOCKHOLDER EXPECTATIONS OR HOLIDAY SALES WINDOW! I'd rather wait another year or so and have a finished product or game, instead of getting some slapped together piece of TRIBBLE that will need a random digital band-aid every SIX TO EIGHT MINUTES!
If anything should be "patched and updated," it's how you all run your ******n business!
PATCH! THAT! STUFF!

But, hey, You're allowed to rant, as you are indeed a paying customer.
You have expectations, and obviously they haven't been met (to your standards).
All you can do in the end is stop pumping money into the game until you're satisfied.
Notify PWE of this action in a polite email. Not much else you can do...
And, I won't smash you for complaining. I'm a little annoyed with the bugs myself.
*Though I'm almost positive that the Dev team is drowning in all the work they have to do, so it's hard to TRIBBLE all over them in my opinion. My the OWNER should give a little more financing to the STO branch and give those over worked Devs a bit of a break.*
I would hope the Dev team focuses on the needed patch's for the next little while, and maybe put a small pause on all the new game content. I actually feel overwhelmed with all the new content.
I work 50 hours a week so it's hard for me to keep up with all the reps and episodes on my 6 characters.
I dont care to engage in petty search for flaws in OP.
I just agree with topic. Im tired of missions that stop advancing, graphical issues that make game look unpolished which makes some of my friends to draw conclusion not to play a game that even looks bad at time. Tired of lock ups that occur from memory issues, crashes and sound glitches which make some effects disappear or the whole sound sound like scratched CD.
Yes, please fix the issues and please do not add this fix to C-store. It should be free
EDIT: I just wanr ro add that id like to know about maintenances a few days prior to them. Every time there has been a maintenance, there is note of it in the launcher the same day. These cant all be emergency maintenances.

For some reason his reminds me a bit of a childhood thing. My parents, in their desire to please me, would promise to get me the big red fire truck toy. In the end however, things being as they were , they would get me a tiny toy car.
I was dissappointed as a child, but as a man i smile lovingly at the thought and try to fulfill promises made to my own kids or simply not make promises but "maybes".
Cryptic in their exhuberance to please and entertain have made a few mistakes, like the department heads bug. While not being apologetic for them i do understand things take time and they rush out stuff at times to make us happy.
That being said i hope they will address some of these long standing bugs, while not game breaking by any means, they ppromised us something and like a kid i am hoping they fulfill it.
Have to admit that almost every game i buy to PS3 makes me wonder why do we accept unfinished products these days. Back in old consoles it most often was "Put the cardridge in and play" Now it is often like Gran Turismo 5 all my friend that bought that game had the same first couple of days as me. For me it was "Insert the disc and install updates for 2 days" and im not joking. NHL had same stuff as well and so on.
It is like game coding technolofy is advanced faster than people who make games. As if whose who do games cant keep up with possibilities and advancements that decelopment in coding technology gives. Internet is also one part of problem. Why make something well finished when you can patch it? Naturally without internet there would not be games like this.
Shareholders are to blame as well, they have hi expectations to fast income and they dont often care for long term. There is always new investments that bring more revenue if one fails.
Last but not least, consumer that want something new all the time and everything old is obsolete for them as individuals. Person who has played a game to end only tends to care of end content and new content. Old to them is often obsolete and they even argue that it does not need maintenance or fixing. It old, i dont play it anymore. This naturally hurts new players but who cares if old ones get new content fast.
Biggest problem is that people accept all this. Many will argue that "Vote with wallet" works but that also hurts. If game does not make enough income these days, shareholders and markjeting push for new content to get more new short term customers. If you stop paying and more stop paying, the game dies. End of story for those who loved the lore and story of the game. Nothing bad for those that compete against other players, there is zillion other MMO's to compete with. If you pay, it seems that you accept all this and the same story goes as before. Unfinished products and ew rushed content too fast.
Only viable option is to voice your opinions and hope it workjs.

And the only reason I can think of why you're resorting to the plagiarism argument, when what's being said is true, just pretty much boils down to YOU'RE A FREAKING COWARD! You are being a complete coward.

OP rants about quality of game and demands change
Posters respond that he has unrealistic expectations and ought educate himself on how game design is not "push button receive bacon" in the back end of things.
OP gets mad and defends position, raving about how he is entitled to quality because of muh money on a free to play platform.
Posters respond with facts in the terms of service showing this game comes with no warranty and is available as is.
OP calls posters cowards.
and then I lold, ****ing hard.

And No Mr. OP...
A RANT is NEVER the answer... you take you data, you work with it and you present it in a well thought out and logical manner to the intended recipient.
And one really REALLY important thing you have to consider: Leave your feelings outside and lock the door!
Especially when working with such a Volatile Topic!
Just be lucky you don't PvP, that really is a joke in this game

2010: This is Cryptic PvP. Please hold the line, your call is very important to us...
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
If you read carefully, you will note that 99% of them aren't emergency, but scheduled... Every Thursday for the past 4 years.
The red is to draw your attention...
Hmm, i seem to have forgotten that, thanks. For me tho, it felt so much better to have 1 hour dt in everyday when playing EVE than few hours once a week

That being said i hope they will address some of these long standing bugs, while not game breaking by any means, they ppromised us something and like a kid i am hoping they fulfill it.
actually, it would be closer to this: http://www.crypticstudios.com/openings as PWE openings are most likely for "non cryptic games.
