If I was... Rick Berman... I would be disgusted. Well to be honest, I think they already are. This is offensive to everything Star Trek was during its run.
No, because Cryptic never listens to anyone and does what the hell they want for maximum profit. So no, the game hasn't really improved and still remains a online store.

actually.... there are ghosts of Perpetual's work scattered throughout the game. Most people are unaware of their existence because they don't know what they are.
One of the loading screens is an example. In it you see the burned out hulk of what looks like it might be a Constitution class. But.... when you look closely.... it isn't. That loading screen is a picture of an object you often see as a destroyed or disabled Federation ship, it's even available as a Foundry asset IIRC. But AFAIK it's a design Perpetual created. It doesn't match any playable ship either.
How do you know this about Perpetual as I have been following this before you have since Paramount annouced it.That sure does loo like an old TOS Const. on the loadig screen.

Personally I think the art work in STO is one if its best assets.
Having said that my main complaint with Season 8 is the fact that the content is really way to easy.
It seems like MMO developers in general, and not just Cryptic, but in general MMO developers are afraid to put any sort of challenge into their games. This is done in an effort to make the game as accessible as possible for all players concerned. And in reality what it does is, it makes the game boring to play because you can solo most of the content.
It is an MMO for god sakes, and that stands for Massive Multiplayer Online Game, which means there are supposed to be hundreds of thousands of players all playing the game at the same time. However instead of designing the content to facilitate groups of players there has been this desire for MMO developers to make everything in the MMO able to be solo'ed.
A new MMO in development, Elder Scrolls Online, is a perfect example of this where the main storyline is not designed to be played in group, the whole thing is designed to be played single player. There is group content, like STO has, but why make the main storyline a single player game? I have plenty of that type of game and when I play an MMO I WANT to play it with friends, guild/fleet, etc., if I wanted to play single player I would have booted up one of the 20 or so of those installed on my PC.
You have to be level 50, the level cap, to be able to get into the Sphere. So why then does Cryptic think it was a good idea to make all the content there so that level 40 players might find it challenging?
No, because Cryptic never listens to anyone and does what the hell they want for maximum profit. So no, the game hasn't really improved and still remains a online store.
That's complete, unadulterated BS. They do nothing but listen to us. Constantly. STO constantly gets updates and bug fuxes that wouldn't be possible if they didn't listen to us.
They're even coming to the forums every week to talk with us and get input and feedback. Can you name another F2P game that does that?
Just because they won't change the game to suit you specifically doesn't mean they don't care about the player base as a whole.

Forgive me but how deluded could you possibly be? People have been crying out for a better Galaxy Class for almost three years and still nothing. Galaxy X refit, oh no but here's a ship that could be that, fun isn't it... the Avenger. You want stuff from Voyager... Oh well, we could do the Kazon or the Krenim or the Vaudwaur but instead, they chose the voth that NOBODY asked for.

Well, he's right. Star Trek Online does use some of Perpetual's art assets. The "Excalibur" from Perpetual is seen in the game numerous times, including the Foundry. It's not a playable ship, but it is an art asset you can see in certain Deep Space Encounters as space wreckage. It's in the Foundry as a Galaxy-class ship, even though it obviously isn't.
Most easily it's seen in the Klingon Scout Force trophy. It's difficult to make out from that picture, but if you've earned it? Set it up and really zoom in and pan in, and you'll see the "Galaxy" ships on the trophy are actually Perpetual's "Excalibur"-class ship which Cryptic inherited. The secondary hull/stardrive gives it away.

There are a lot of competing groups crying out for things. Myself, I'd like to see a Foundry that isn't still beta after like 30 months of being a mostly abandoned beta tool. But hey, we each care about different things so they tend to prioritize.
They do listen... especially when the feedback agrees with stuff they either want to do or stuff that they can do relatively easily. And it's not that they ignore the feedback... it's that they prioritize based on a judgment.

Or just ignore canon, or any ships that they don't personally like or what to be powerful ships despite canon saying otherwise. If its not a Defiant, an Escort or an Excelsior, its not going to be given the same attention as vessels which Cryptic personally favour. Al Rivera proves this on several occasions. When asked about the New Orleans or the K'Vort, he basically says they won't be in the game because HE doesn't like them. Everyone know the Excelsior is such a powerful ship because its his favorite ship.

I actually love STO. I have played just about every single MMO there is and STO is one of my all time favorites. It is probably mostly because I have been an avid fan of Star Trek since I grew up watching the original series, yes I am that old.
Recently some things have sort of turned me off a bit on STO because of the direction it seems to be going in. I loved the LOR expansion, but for the most part I don't like the Season 8 content because it seems to be portraying the federation as a bunch of thugs who go in guns a blazing and never even mention the Prime Directive any more.
I can still get a lot of satisfaction from STO though and that is through foundry missions because there are authors there who understand that Star Trek is not a shooter, and "to boldly go where no one has gone before" does not mean shoot first and only ask questions if there is anyone left cowering after the battle is over.
The main thing I love about STO is the fleet I belong to. We play together, participation is very high in all the events we run, and at peak times we have 40 to 60 players online at the same time with lows of 10 to 20 players at non peak times.
I posted a month ago about my alien turning into a romulan - no dev response whatsoever.
One of the replies to my post was someone else who had posted the same thing 3 months earlier. I'm still bugged, he's still bugged, you don't care.
Apparently it's a 100% thing - make an alien on the romulan faction, hit level 10, chose fed or kdf and turn into a romulan.
How did that make it past beta?
Either you never tested an alien in that faction or that you knew about the bug before release and never fixed it and never intend to.
This is the first I've heard of this bug and I have a level 50 Romulan Republic Alien..... Soo.... I'm gonna have to say: Pics or it didn't happen.
Soheth is purple.... very purple.... I'm pretty sure I would notice if she suddenly turned into a Romulan...

There's nothing wrong with the Galaxy itself. It's just suffering because what it features isn't that great in-game. But it's not being ignored. Hell, it even gained some nifty comm arrays recently. Is that gonna make the Galaxy into the fearsome ship we're wanting? Probably not. But it's most definitely a start.
And the Galaxy-X only getting 2 of those? That's not a sign of neglect - that should tell you that Cryptic has big plans for it in the near future. Be a pessimist about that if you want, but I'd bet my own firstborn on the Galaxy-X getting an upgrade soon.
And claiming that 'nobody' asked for the Voth is complete ignorance. You just didn't ask for the Voth. And you don't speak for everyone.
Got to disagree with you here. I only remember one person every really pitching the Voth. His name was Geko.
I had to look up the species on Memory Alpha, because I couldn't remember who or what the Voth was.
The fact is, remembering that no one(on the forums, I'm guessing) mentioning that they want the Voth except Geko, and the fact that you didn't know what they were till you looked them up does not mean that no one wanted the Voth.
I'm not saying someone did, I'm just saying that an absolute claim that no one did is ignorant.
If the game will only improve if we complain, but the game never improves because no one listens to complaints, then why do you waste your time continuing to make complaints that you are certain are going unattended?
Seems to me that if you're so dissatisfied with this game, and certain it's not getting any better, you would be better served by finding a different pastime. If the game is indeed as bad as you say, that would result in its collapse due to a lack of players. If it's bad enough for that to happen, then how would its collapse be a bad thing?
Note, please, that I disagree profoundly with your assessment of STO - sufficiently profoundly that I am currently playing on two different Silver accounts, and have the maximum number of characters on each one. (Keep an eye out for Centurion Tovan Khev, commander of the RRW Tovan Khev II, soon to rank up and take command of the Tovan Khev III... ) It's just that following your chain of logic quickly leads one to the conclusion that you should not be here at all.

I get what you're saying, but to make a contrary claim that there was a significant group of people asking for the Voth seems like an equally absolute claim that doesn't match my perceptions or memories. The same is true of the Elachi, I think.

Hey, don't look at me - I asked for the Kazon! (Figured it'd be nice to have a new enemy that wasn't ratcheting up the threat level for a change...)

Go in the game and press u, does it still say you're an alien or are you now identified as a romulan.with romulan size restrictions.
My alien was 4'11, now she's 5'6" because that's the minimum height for romulans.

I think this is one of the things that led to the initial gripes of Season 8 not having any story. You have to actually go up the rep system and crit doff missions, or view the logs on the Dyson Sphere Battlezone to get all the pieces of the story.
It's certainly a different way to introduce the story, but I guess when it launched and noone had done such things (including me), the initial impression was that there was little to no story at all.
I still think it's something to be addressed. Or at least throw in some kind of information from the get-go that things will be explained as you progress in the game.
So now they hide even the story behind grinds. You want me to grind doffing and crit a mission to see a short video. Failed design =><= right here folks.
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
So, as I was saying, nobody asked for the Voth but as usual, Geko gets his way AGAIN. Like he did with the Excelsior and the Avenger. Does anyone think he probably throws a tantrum and throws his model starships round his office if he doesn't get his on way. This game should seriously be renamed Al Rivera Online because all he's contributed is a bossy, opinionated know-it-all trying desperately to fill a role that is way too big for him.
You only have to listen to an interview with him or read one to realize what a bossy, ignorant little man he is. He doesn't want to redevelop the Galaxy because HE doesn't like it, he's said that several times. What's his favorite ship? Oh the Excelsior.
Which despite being really old and having workhorse status in TNG and Cannon Fodder Status in DS9 is SUDDENLY elevated to the top of Tactical Federation Cruisers in this game ABOVE its design successors both the Ambassador and Galaxy. Thats what makes it laughable.
You know in the heat of battle ... err forum PvP we are ready to curse the devs. But honestly, I think they are doing the best they can with the direction given. I do have some stern criticism for certain devs based on their contemptuous response to facts and arguments provided by fans.
But I do salute you devs on the fine work done on DS9. Scale is epic looking if totally inaccurate in terms of canon. Of course canon means little to them as they have proven time and time again. Laser tag dino action was just the most recent and outrageous example.
Btw, the cloak bug is still not fixed. They just masked it in most content. You still get uncloaked occasionally due to dialog ... case in point ... Vault.
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
You know the more I think of it and the more I believe it is not even Al who pushed this. Think about it.
What is one of the things kids love the most? The answer is Dinosaurs.
How do you bring into the game? The answer is to find an obscure Voyager episode and call this the season of Voyager. The picture of the Intrepid was such a tease ... like they were going to fix it ... and by extension other science ships.
Just wait until you can create your own Voth toon and play dress up the dino. Their target demographic is going to go wild!

Erm anyways... Melodrama aside, as you can see Soheth has the traits of an alien and the appearance of an alien. It does list her as "Species: Romulan", but... she isn't a Romulan.

I have to echo szim here. There are a lot of games out there. If you don't like STO, don't play STO! See how simple?
