Plasma is only beam to work well? Did they ever fix the bug with Anti Proton weapons? or are they still the bottom of the barrel damage type?
I have yet to see the DPS on any other beam weapon that plasma puts out which is part of the problem, until they cause the other beams to put out some kind of exotic damage like Rom plasma set they will forever be below canons for everything.
They need to overhaul the weapons and I and others like me have given them ample suggestions in the suggestions forums to do it properly based off of the scores for various abilities like Flow Capacitors and Particle Gen to enhance beam weapons so people have better control over the weapons damage output.
Until that happens beams will forever remain second class unless you use the cookie cutter Rom plasma set.
Cruisers and beam arrays are fine. It's just that it's harder (or perhaps simply more expensive) to properly outfit a cruiser versus a traditional escort, so most people mistake that barrier-to-entry for a failing. Or they get discouraged by the relative lack of easy burst damage.
A good cruiser takes a little patience to build properly, perhaps even a tad more thought. With patience in one hand, and instant gratification in the other, well... there you go.
Honestly though, the only cruiser-related issue that I think Cryptic should look into is the bloody awful Galaxy variants. Aside from that, any further balancing should probably go towards making science ships less horrible.
Everyone keeps going on about how beams are underpowered and all the devs care about are escorts and cannons.
Not true. (In PvE, at least)
I got sick of my Kumari, fancied a change of pace for STFs. Decided to build a pewpew cruiser, so I set one up and took it into some STFs. First set didn't go so brilliantly, about 14k DPS. Not used to this playstyle at all, so I reworked the bridge officer slots, and had another go. Hit 19.7k and didn't even feel like I flew that well. There's more to come from this build, a LOT more.
Frankly I was pretty shocked, I believed the hype, but it was wrong! I'm going to push this up to 25k and laugh in the face of all the kumaris.
So yeah, can we stop with the "beams suck, nerf cannons" threads now?
Please bear in mind, I have been flying nothing but escorts for at least 8 months. It's a hugely different playstyle and I'm still not used to flying this monster of a cruiser yet, so I'm sure in a few weeks my DPS numbers will be a lot higher - but it's a pretty damn good starting point!
Obviously, also worth mentioning this is a useless PvP build, but I know beams are viable in PvP also!
*Note on the video: I flew like **** but still managed 17k. Included the parse and a quick breakdown after the match*
*EDIT: Just ran a CSE with this build, WITHOUT technicians or DEM doff (I was still running my no win scenario doffs from a previous farming run. 2 AP doffs, energy weaps, deflector and gravametric. All completely useless doffs. STILL did 15k DPS*
Our main and sister channel is DPS-5,000. Anyone can get into that with any kind of build, 5k is very very easy to manage. Once you're in there, people chat, talk builds, crunch numbers, run STFs and generally tend to improve. I joined a few months ago and went from 5k to 10k pretty much overnight just with piloting tips and some small build tweaks (I was in a JHEC at the time).
You don't need BFAW, you don't need a parser, there's always someone happy to do it for you.
As for the 11k channel, the vast majority fly Kumaris, Fleet Defiants and Bugs. There aren't many A2B BFAW spambots at all.
How would I go about joining the 11k channel? please hit me up in game if you can d'vhexishen@vexashen
It's probably because a lot of people are crying that cruisers don't do as much damage as escorts, and ignoring that fact that they're supposed to tank...
this game is a joke anyway and is like that because people wanted it to be like that .People want cruisers to be escorts ,escorts to be removed from game ,science ships to be cruisers and escorts at the same time...and that comes not only from pve heroes ,but also from lol pvp people.
Now this got me thinking of using a similar setup for a Fleet Galaxy; just for STFs.

It works well, but it's not the most fun or exciting ship to pilot. It's mostly parking and pewpewpewpewpewpewpewpewing.
Definitely not the most efficient killer, but it does make me feel great when the Galaxy-class finally lives up to the TV counterpart.

What i don't get is why this game is segregated into a trinity of healers tanks and well escorts.
There isnt a lot of call for tanks, and only slightly more for healers. Most of the game is designed around "kill it and kill it faster"
I think that Science and Enginnering should be more equal in the Crowd Control department, and then respectively leaning into their given category of a Healer for science and a Tank for cruisers
And well TRIBBLE escorts as they are already just as they need to be.....

Every thread about "cruisers are fine, look at my obscene damage output!" features A2B. Interesting, no?
As a game designer, when you see a pattern like that, alarms should be ringing in the part of your brain that watches for unintended and exploitive gameplay mechanics.

Exactly, A2B builds are awfuly overused, and the fact that they basically kill the intended purpose of aux styled ships.
Hence my previous post about getting cruisers and science ships into real roles that they supposedly are for.

I fly the fleet assault cruiser but its nothing special as far as gear and abilities are concerned. Full MK XII borg set, the 2 piece beam/console for the weapon amplifier and keep all power in weapons. When I need to tank I just re-route to shields. I use disruptor for the resistance proc and chroniton torps for the movement debuff, both serve as a service to the team as well as myself.
For abilities I just rotate through EMpW3, DEM3 and APD2 all the time, I also throw in the eng specific buffs as and when they are off cooldown. A use a few blue boffs to reduce EMp cooldown on top of the standard shield distribution guys.
No idea what the damage output is, but I rarely die in eSTFs so my damage is at least consistent - and I get a good ratio of BNP's, marks and vendor trash as rewards.
The one question that comes up for me since using this build is why APD is a tac ability? This effect and perhaps variations of it would be perfect for tanks.
I would also be interested in joining the 5000 and 11000 channels. I can get over 12k on ISE pugs every time, so I guess I just need someone to test me? On that note, if a person demonstrates 11k+ with their best ship, but then joins an ESTF with an alt that isn't up to snuff, can they be kicked out?

From 5k, no - never.
From 11k, it has only ever happened once. It's not like if you do 10k in a run we're going to insta-boot you. Even if you do 8k or hell even 4k. We might rib you a little bit for it, but we all have new alts and need to get them marks. We would politely ask that if you're not doing anywhere near the 11k you would refrain from using that channel with that toon, but it's not mandatory.
If you build a dedicated ship to get 11k from BFAW spamming or something, then get rid of it, and go back to your 5k setup for all of your runs - then we're going to have a problem. Repeat serial offenders who it's clear don't or can't do 11k will be politely asked to have a re-trial.

Is it worse than the way things were before where it was DPScort or die? I mean really...

Not all of them, you could just run two copies of BFAW instead, I've seen several 20k+ cruisers which don't use A2B.
So cruisers are fine after all. Just max out borg and rom reputations and use multiple experimental beam arrays. Simple! Guess I'll just use my escort now for when I'm not yet rocking all epic mk 12's and tier 5 rep gear on my characters.
I think if your going pure beams the excelsior is a better choice, slot an extra heal or something instead of the extra TT1 which is covered by the Aux2Batt anyways. I like the Assault Cruiser Refit for the 180 degree Quantum and a Torp Spread 1 which is just fun to use.
Hi, my name is: Elim Garak, Former Cardassian Oppressor
LTS, here since...when did this game launch again?
I've seen parse for ships that do 20k, mostly they are ships that can run FAW/2x Aux2Batt with pets of some sort (mostly Drone Ship or JHAS pets), but I have seen the odd T'Varo get 20K (something I'm working towards).

I have logs of plenty of cannon builds doing 20k.
I have seen (but can't currently find, but I have hundreds of the damn things) Scimitar logs over 30k.
I've just dug through 20 or so combat logs to find stuff over 20k, found 7 so far. I'm trying to find some 27-30k logs because I know I have them somewhere - but they're all labled Combatlog (211).Log, Combatlog (212).Log and I don't know if it's possible to import them all at once, so it's taking forever to manually parse and find anything.

If this build is so great. Why are you then flying fleet disrupter based tac escort build ship NX-99099 according to http://gateway.startrekonline.com/#char(jad@mikehadfield)/ship/equipment ? Do you also have the ACT stats of that build?

I'll do half as much damage and be happy flying a ship that takes more than spamming the spacebar in order to work.
Why even bother with that much DPS in PvE? If you can do 4k you are FINE for all the PvE missions.
I've done the whole A2B thing, on a Tactical Bortas even, and found it the most unexciting build I've ever played.

Care to upload a log file so we can use our own parsers on it?
