Now its getting to the stage in mine trap that entire teams are going afk
so now I ask cryptic again can we please have the ability to BOOT afkers OR have a feature that will remove people when they don't move or don't attack or if a threshold fails they are booted. Because really its getting beyond a joke now. To see full groups of them afk with a disco ball up.
Have you noticed these players wearing Evening wear or other Zen purchase costumes?
In space are they in a Zen purchase ship?
You won't get a boot option. PWE likes the money.
The best we can hope for is the removal of the cooldown for leaving the mission. this will leave the leechers in a map alone with no one to grind for them while everyone else goes to a new run.
an idea from TOR any member of the team can issue an kick to where all team members other then the one who is getting voted on to be kicked can kicked while the person is being notified that they are in fact getting kicked.. and have a reason to kick them if you're doing pugs or if not find a fleet find a good team do that
The Emperor isn't please with Cryptic apparent lack of progress for the Empire. Lord Vader is on his way
Nice try to bribe them by mentioning money though.
Any player you carry through an STF probably needed the carry anyway and you've done your charity for the day.
I'd rather have an AFKer than a Help spammer any day of the week.
I don't encounter AFKers very often, but when I do, I get really frustrated. Why should they get the same reward the other four players get without doing any of the work to get it? It is too easy to set up a good build without spending a ton of money that can tackle eSTFs without much issue, so there is absolutely no excuse for AFKing. It's like they're on welfare in STO, and we are supporting their deadbeat asses.
I think the best solution would be to have a system where people could report an AFKer in queued events such as PvP or STFs. The report itself would not do anything but players who received a certain number of reports beyond a certain standard deviation from the mean with a hypothesis test indicating AFKer to a 99% or better significance level would get auto-banned from all queues.
The initial ban would be just for an hour and if they did not move away from the confidence interval for disproving the null hypothesis, they would be eligible for a new ban everyday. Every time they got banned, the ban would double in length, so while it would be only an hour initially (or simply a warning), after ten periods of AFKing it would be nearly a month and a half ban.
From the period they start working toward upholding the confidence interval of the null hypothesis they would start a clock, and after a certain period (say 6 months) of either working further toward the mean AFKer report level they would have their ban level reset and older data (say greater than 100 queue reports) cleared.
The data and the bans should be account-wide, unlike the current leaver penalty.
I am getting pretty sick of logging into mine trap just to have 2 members of my team AFK the entire match. While these guys log in and then go off doing something else, my team usually gets diminished returns because we are running with a short team. It is not fair to the players who actually play the match.
Is there any way the Devs can make it where a player will be logged out of the game if they do not move more more than 5 minutes in a match?
If they are there enough to move around, they might as well help. I think some people are leaving the room, going to lunch or something. It wouldn't solve it completely, but it might help some.
Also, I didn't see the other thread, hadn't been on the forums for a while. Just got so fed up with this I wanted to rage a little about it. Glad to see others have already brought this up. Hopefully the Devs will do something about this. I think I'm done with Mine Trap until they do...
you've just beamed down with no support... life is tough. that's when you get a hold of yourself, regroup until you've formed a team, and take it like A MAN.
Lyndon Brewer: 20% chance to capture enemy ship for 60 seconds on successful use of boarding party.
It's an increasing scourge, it's got a lot of players really annoyed and I'm one of them. an increasing ban system would be very potent and a good deterrent to all offenders. I fully support this notion.
I was taught at school its always the minority who spoil it for the majority and the sooner this disruptive and dishonest minority is removed, the better it will be for the honest majority.
"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. Well, thats just too bad. People need to get over it. Season 7 created this scourge anyways. The intro of the mega timegate grindfest that is the rep system and removing all rewards from STF's took away alot of the motivation to compete in these stf's,..now it is all about farming marks, farming marks and more marks.
There is no more bonus chance for borg salvage anymore if you complete optional, there is no reason at all. 15 bonus marks is all you get now..i dont blame afk'ers one bit...i say let em.

i hope they start banning people in the forums for creating these threads. You can not control other players actions, and you have no say in what they do.

The devs have already done something about this but posters keep ranting here in the forums instead of actually taking responsibility for their own game play by using the tools that have been available since the game went live - friends list and fleet roster.

So you want to ban people from talking, but being a leech and making the game less enjoyable for others because you are too lazy to even play it should be okay? If people hate playing the game so much, why do they even log into it?

Here's a suggestion that requires no changes whatsoever to the game and can be used immediately upon your next login - all of you annoyed players should send each other friend requests and then just group with yourselves!
No more AFKer issues. That's a WIN!
No more posts here in the forums demanding that the devs do something so the players don't have to. That's a WIN!

So if not enough friends or fleet mates are on, you shouldn't be able to play without having to deal with half your team just standing there?
Giving players the ability to vote kick other players will create far more abuse than it will solve anything. At no time should players have these kinds of abilities. Sure it sounds good for the purpose of kicking a leech but it will soon devolve into kicking someone in a ship you dont like, or someone who is obviously new and doesnt know what to do and even you people wanting the ability for AFK players will eventualy fall victim to the abuse.
This is just a flat out terrible idea unless you really just want to kick players for griefing purposes under the guise of the mysterious AFK player some of you seem to find allot.
You want a solution? Do not use public qeue's. Form teams or do them with your fleet. There you go the perfect solution to the problem you imagine exists.

100% agree, the players have no business with a kick option. The system needs to be based off of contribution=reward structure.

I don't want to ban anyone from doing anything. That would be a negative.
I want something positive to come out of this issue.
What I DO want is for the players constantly posting these complaints here in the forum to wise up, take responsibility for their own game play enjoyment and start friending each other so you can all avoid the dreaded AFKers.
No more AFKer issues in-game! And that's a positive WIN!
No more complaint postings here in the forums! And that's a positive WIN!
And maybe, JUST maybe, you might make some new friends out of the deal.
Seriously...people need to stop complaining about this. The fact of the matter is, leechers gonna leech, haters gonna hate, and players gonna play. Seriously...what is the worst a leecher can do? Ohhh...big whoop...you only got 60 marks instead of 72. Grow up.
We have leechers in real life. We can't do anything about them either, and real life has far greater consequences than 12 lost fleet marks.
There are SO MANY THINGS wrong with STO that deserve more attention than leechers and AFKers. There are aspects of this game that are still broken yet Cryptic doesn't touch these things with a 10 foot pole. Why? Cryptic is here to make money, not stop leechers. 10 times out of 10...the powers that be at Cryptic would sooner divert resources to creating the next OP Federation Escort than even send 1 low-level employee on a 10 minute brain storming exercise to think of ideas to stop leeching.
Either learn to live with PUG leechers...or make a private match.
Stop wasting precious Kb on the internet with these threads.

I had an AFKer in my group for the Nukara exterior tholian boss fight yesterday. With bad pugs sometimes this fails even with a full group so there is no way I will risk getting locked out durring rep event with no marks to show for it, so I told my group we should beam out since there is no penalty. The AFker would come back to an empty instance with no marks to show for his time instead.
This is even funnier in Azure where it ends on its own after a timer. If everyone warps out except the AFker he gets 0 marks and 30 min cooldown if it ends while he is afk and he doesn't warp out before the timer runs out.
I get more annoyed with people that expect me to stick it out and carry AFKers then the afkers themselves actually. If it weren't for these kind of people we wouldn't have AFKers. Don't be an AFKer enabler. If you have ever passed a pve mission with an AFKer you are contributing to the problem.
I'm not in a fleet and I don't think I should have to be to get a good STF going. I have a friends list, but it's rare to find 5 willing friends ready to do a STF at the moment I want to.
Early on, I did 'use the tools' and left a STF that was plagued with an AFKer. I got the hour-long "leaver" penalty and the AFKer got Dil and Marks. To suggest that's the way to handle this problem is a weak position.
If you are annoyed by this topic, it is your "problem" that you just don't ignore it and contribute to elsewhere, right?
Right now at the moment of my reply there are 5 different topics on the front page of the General forum regarding AFKers. If those 5 posters got together and friended each other that's a team for any 5-man match. That's a positive beginning to ending this whole AFKer issue.
Arguing for the devs to do something about the AFKers to make your game more fun is like arguing for the government to do something about people with STDs so you can have un-protected sex because you don't want to go to the trouble of protecting yourself.
Take responsibility for your own gaming enjoyment and CHOOSE who you want to play with.
Too bad we don't hear what the suits are thinking abut this.

PWE/C, what is done to stem the ever increasing tide of AFK leechers haunting STO? These days it is a rare occurrence to join a PVE queue and not end up with at least one "player" sitting at spawn point while the others do all the work. Even had 2 of them in a team of 5 before. Just last night I ended up teamed with one of those leechers again, namely ONE I HAD ALREADY REPORTED A WHILE AGO for the very same thing. Obviously, nothing of any consequence came of that report. So, what are you doing about this, anything at all? It's time to act.

Either play with your own friends or a group of people who don't tolerate AFKers, or deal with them in your team when you PUG.

I've rarely seen AFK'ers in any of my pugged missions and I pug almost exclusively, yet there seems to be a new anti-AFK/leech thread every 5 minutes.
Have I just been lucky, or am I missing something here?
