They really need to spend some cash and invest on their servers, get stand alone ones strickly to handle sto. Ever since Neverwinter started their open beta.. things around here have been off and on. 2 days, not including this has been nothing but lag in game, and well the topper of today not be able to play yet.. not good at all by any standards. Just my 0.02
Take your time. I'd rather have stable servers (both in STo and NW) than have a DC every few minutes. But do not take too long though, I've just woken up and almost finished my 2nd cup of coffee

Id agree, we have passed the four hour mark, so eight seems very likely at this point. Possibly 12.
12 hours is giving too much credit... you have to account for the midnight snack, pre breakfast, breakfast, brunch, lunch, dev blog about another npc, and then it'll be back up.
I appreciate what you're saying. Of course, hardware sometimes just fails. It's a pain in the fundament but it is inevitable it'll happen occasionally.
I think the issue I have isn't that we've experienced a hardware failure.
It's that the hardware architecture, however configured, has failed in the face of a wholly predictable surge in usage.
NWN is one of those IPs that will inevitably get a lot of attention.
An open beta of such an IP will attract a huge amount of interest, and the traffic that goes with it.
However, if the server hardware has a bottleneck in it that controls the access to all of cryptics games, that part of the hardware is more likely to fail. One could say, predictably so.
Imagine, if you will, a huge facility with many conference rooms and function areas. However it has just one entrance.
Most of the time those rooms are used relatively sparingly, but one day you have an event that gets the worlds notice. Everyone wants to come.
If you don't open more doors into the facility, problems are very likely to occur. There could be catastrophic failure.
Essentially thats what we've had today. A catastrophic failure of, possibly, one component.
However its wiped out access to everything.
Soon we will be getting ready for LoR, an event I'm sure many of us are eagerly anticipating.
If we are still having to access it through the one door, a door we will have to share with NWN, CO and all the other cryptic games, then probems are inevitable. Catastrophic failure more likely.
It is that which concerns me, less about the hardware, more about the foresight of the cryptic technical team.
While a server is a connected to a network, it is not network hardware. Routers, hubs, etc are network hardware. You're talking balancing, not pass through.

You play the evil NW game that has deprived us of STO?
I'm not 1 for crying over freebies, but some small token of appreciation would be nice, for those of us waiting 5 hours now. Not that we will get it from this developer...i just can't see it.
So Cryptic...prove me wrong
not fair... i only got through half of my doffing...lmfao

I think they are trying to get the hardrive replaced under warranty
so they went to buy a new one and shipped the broken one to Seagate HQ,
should take 3-4 weeks,
those dam Seagate hard drives, they always fail on me
Oops! backup drive fail too! time to download drive-restore, that's whats probably taking so long, hope no one lose Zen Zen lol
I've seen this happen before with Cryptic, this would only be the second time for a long period down time that I remember.
No big deal for me, nothing beats waiting 10 1/2 months of 12 hour shifts (sometimes there were no shifts, just constant work) in a very hot place with people that hated you and would literally kill you if you were alone. Nothing beats that.
Anyway, Saving Private Gorn is on, might watch that or Debbie Does Gorn. The second is really old, so might upgarde to something more like Gorn's Place.
