I normally name my ships after my dogs, Solaris Balthazar London and Mutluck, though i did recently change the name of my ship on my main character to the Enter Prize to TRIBBLE off a friend of mine who hates seeing players ships named the Enterprise. I'll be changing it back soon enough.
Most of my ships names are related to inside jokes I share with friends. They're all named for people (All guys too, yikes); some are fictional characters. All in all they're decent names in my opinion; no fancy translations, nothing too superfluous, and with a tinge of humor in all of them.
Light cruiser: USS Fairfield
It was a decent name that I always have had in the back of my head. There are other details but probably not relevent

Named for King Harkinian Hyrule of the old Zelda cdi games (Those of you who watch too much youtube know who I'm talking about).
Ambassador: USS Cage
Named for the "greatest" actor ever, Nicolas Cage of course. Never really used it because it's an in-game freebee.
Heavy Escort: USS Hale
Named for reverend John Hale from the Salem Witch trials (for those who've read "The Crucible") who is a certified badass. This is my longest serving ship so far.
Exploration Cruiser: USS Bowen
Interesting default name that happened to match a teacher that I had that was fat, slow, boring, and ineffective. Just like the Galaxy. As a matter of fact I hated this ship so much that I went back to using the USS Hale. Guess I'm more of an escort guy, but I've never tried a science vessel.
Danube Class Runabout: USS Michio Kaku
Named for that Annoying "Physicist" who tends to appear on television more times then needed. No reasoning behind this name.
Shuttle: USS Kepler
Named for scientist Johannes Kepler, known for his laws of planetary motion.
I have the Uss Moya and the Uss Talyn named after the ships from farscape and my character is a Klingon named Ka son of D'argo. Yeah, I'm super clever.

So, just another quick update from me, my ships thus far:
U.S.S. Da Vinci- Miranda class
I chose this name because I wanted a ship name that was fitting for an Engineer character. In the end, I went for Da Vinci, because what name was more fitting than that of one of the wackiest inventors in human history?
U.S.S. Hadrian- Excalibur class
I knew that I wanted to give my Cruiser a classical-sounding name while still carrying on the theme of Enginer-related names. In the end, I settled on the Hadrian, named after the Roman Emperor who had built Hadrian's Wall in Great Britain. I figured that the name was appropriate, as Starfleet is, in many ways, a bulwark against hostile enemy races just as Hadrian's Wall was a barrier against the Picts.
U.S.S. Babylon- Dakota/Stargazer hybrid class class
Initially, I had named my heavy cruiser the Calatrava, after contemporary bridge engineer Santiago Calatrava. However, in the end, I switched its name to the Babylon for a number of reasons-- firstly, because the name sounds cool, and secondly...well, just look at my user name. It helps that the aft "loop" of the Dakota class kind of reminds me of the White Star.
U.S.S. Aurelius- Galaxy class
I felt that a ship as large and majestic as a Galaxy-class deserved a good classical/historic name, so I went with Aurelius after Marcus Aurelius, a late Roman Emperor who is widely remembered as a philanthropist and philosopher.
U.S.S. St. Lawrence- Danube class Runabout
Given that Danube Runabouts tend to be named after rivers, I named mine the St. Lawrence, for no other reason than the fact that I'm Canadian.
KDF Ships:
I.K.S. Notqa- Norgh class Bird of Prey.
I came up with this name after perusing an English/Klingon dictionary online. It literally means "black bird," which seemed to me a name both innocuous and sinsiter-- just like the Bird of Prey itself.
Incidentally, seeing as I'm almost at level 40, and am definitely going for a Sovereign-class when I level up, I've been thinking in advance of some ship names for it. The finalists are:
-Pericles- named for the military leader of Athens during the Peloponnesian Wars...which I guess is ironically appropriate, if you analogize the Federation and Klingons as Athens and Sparta.
-Trafalgar- named after the famous naval battle between the British and French and Spanish during the Napoleonic War.
-Avicenna- named after the medieval Persian doctor and philosopher who is regarded as one of the founders of modern medicine. Admittedly, this might be a better name for a science vessel...
-Kon-Tiki- named after the famous raft used by Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl.
-Hadfield- named after Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, the current commander of the International Space Station. Just because.:D
My go to name is Echelon, I heard the word years ago while playing Spliter Cell and it just stuck with me as a cool sounding militaristic name.
Since then I've had the Valkyrie as my main escort ship name, pretty much because of that scene in Apocalypse Now with Rise of the Valkyries.
My latest ship is the Mirror Assault Cruiser and I called it the Basilisk. It sounded pretty cool, but while looking at the name description it was a mythical beast that had the ability to turn victims to stone with a stare, which happened to link pretty well with the ship since it uses tractor beams (normal and assimilated) and chroniton torps to keep enemies in place.
Most of my ships names come from this movie. I have a Wells named "Humperdink" and a Jem Hadar Large Carrier named "Buttercup". I have a couple of others with funny names, like my carrier named "Large Marge". Also, two of my earlier ships were "Delicate Flower" which is a name of one of our family chickens, and "Shovelweiner" which is an inside joke between me and two of my sons.
Edit - I have found a website for english to sanskrit translation. When you play with the words a bit, they can sound like klingon, or anything else you might want. Looking for a good name to mean "sh*td*ck".

My tactical dude's chel grett is the "Gash" because he likes his bat'leth and because the name I had already used incision on my steamrunner and I didn't feel like renaming anything when I got the chel grett.
My Andorian Khyzon Escort is named I.G.V. Bloodfire cause it is a fire powered by the blood of it's enemies :P

Constitution: Rea's Helm. The name of one of the first Rihannsu ships to leave Vulcan, named after a mythological wizard named Rea. In one of the stories, he was said to have been captured and forced to create a helmet that would make whoever wore it proof against injury, so he bound a demon into the helmet that would bite the head off anyone who wore it. A corpse cannot suffer further injury.
Excelsior: S'harien. S'harien was the finest Vulcan swordsmith who ever lived, and his swords have are of near mythical quality. S'harien means "Pierceblood."
Intrepid (when I get it): Bloodwing. The name of Commander Ael's ship, a bloodwing is a large, ugly carnivorous bird from ch'Rihan, and they can be confined by simply building a small fence around them, since they require a large runway to get off the ground. But once in the air, they are unmatched for speed and power.

My Commander escort was the Kirkwall (I am naming lots of my ships after places in Scotland/Places in america associated with scotland)

And my current Defiant escort is the USS Tom Baker (another DW ref)
You could say it's a segmented conglomeration of deceased companions (pets) names.
To which is put in a somewhat anagram format and made viable for lore/pronunciation.
Oh boy... That's quite the question... Well, I'll start with my two characters' current ships, then I'll go in depth with previous ships.
My Federation character, Anplor, has a Reconnaissance Science vessel called the U.S.S. Lodestone. Because his species' society revolves so heavily around magnetism, it made sense to name it after a magnetic stone.
My Klingon character, Rameod, has a Qin Heavy Raptor named the I.K.S. Cha'zak, which is Hebrew for "strength".
Why Hebrew, you may ask? Well, I'm Messianic Jewish (which, to not go off-topic into too much detail, means I'm a Christian-Jewish hybrid). To that end, I know a decent amount of Hebrew; a language which bears slight similarity (in the way it sounds, anyways) to the Klingon language. All of Rameod's ships have Hebrew names with apostrophes and some random capital and lowercase letters to give it a Klingon feel. Some of Anplor's ships have Hebrew names, too, but aren't as coarse.
Now, on to the ship progressions...

*U.S.S. Northstar, Light Cruiser: Since Anplor hails from Polaris, I thought the name fit well.
*U.S.S. Tengam, Science Vessel: The name of Anplor's homeworld.
*U.S.S. Rofey, Research Science Vessel: Hebrew for "doctor".
*U.S.S. Shalom, Support Cruiser: Hebrew for "peace".
*U.S.S. Sojourner, Long Range Science Vessel: An adventurous name for a ship famous for adventures.
*U.S.S. Lodestone, Reconnaissance Science Vessel: (See above)
My main ship is the I.S.S. Conquest, a name I picked to reflect the origin of the ship and crew as from the Mirror Universe. I wanted a name that would not be selected by the Federation, but at the same time something the Terran Empire would find admirable, and the Federation wouldn't reject completely (and Conqueror was both a bit too common, and something that sounded too personal for a ship). Also, I liked the idea of a TV show named "Star Trek: Conquest" to give a different feel.
The ship prior to that I named the U.S.S. Dawnstar after one of my favorite characters in graphic fiction, as well as a fitting name for a ship of a class from the dawning of the Transwarp era.
Another ship, the U.S.S. Bullet is a homage to one of the most heroic space battleships in all Sci Fi novels I have read, W. Michael Gear's Spider trilogy of star-spanning war and spirituality (not for young readers...the author doesn't pull -any- punches either with war or the ways of evil).
Finally, my Galaxy-class ship is named the U.S.S. Legacy, after a ship that was to be the focal point in an old Atari 2600 game that was never released, but that fired my imagination as a child. I'm still waiting for Final Legacy to finish beta-testing.
My Fed's name is Gordon Rodgers, (spelling deliberate) which if you understand the homage, it should be all that's needed to explain his ships: the USS Raymond Gunn, the USS Ray Gunn, and the USS Buster Crabbe.
My Orion flies the IKS Black Horizon, which came to me as I was staring at the space background in one of the corners of the galaxy. I considered looking up the Klingon for it, but opted not to.
Just recently bought Jesu LaRoca a shiny new Khyzon-type Andorian escort (actually bought the whole set but we're flying the Khyzon because it's the best-looking and has the best console and BOff layout.)
I named her Hammerhead after a type of shark like all of his ships. It also seemed like a good name for a ship that hits like a sledgehammer.

I don't know "Horizon" in tlhIngan Hol but "TleghqIj Daqlogh" translates as "Black Line in Space" which may be close enough.

For example, my Breen ship is named the U.S.S. Ilhuicac. Ilhuicac means in heaven; in the sky.

My Assault Cruiser the USS Midian Breach, again named after a Glorious Heritage Class ship from the Andromeda universe.
You have to admit that the GH Class ships have some lovely names, like Fires of Orion, Salient Debate, Million Voices etc.
I just bought a Kumari Class ship and I plan to name her USS Eric Hartmann in honor of the famous World War II Aces of all Aces who scored 358 kills.

First ship was the USS Aries because that's the name it was given by the game and I couldn't work out how to change it.
Second ship was the USS Takamachi, since I decided to start naming things after anime characters.
Current ship is the USS Yagami, for much the same reason.
