1st ship, the one you get in the tutorial; U.S.S. Guardian, named after a fictional high-speed battlecruiser/battleship I made up as a kid for star trek games with my brother. He also made one and called it U.S.S. Aurora.
Next ship was a Thunderchild class; U.S.S. Skye Yu, now renamed U.S.S. Little Skye Yu.
Then the Patrol Escort (non fleet version as I'm not in a fleet); U.S.S. Skye Yu, this is the ship I fly all the time.
There is also the summer event corvette; R.X.S. Little Skye Yu.
So who/what is Skye Yu? Skye is my (now) 14 month old daughter.
I also have the T3 Ambassador cruiser (mission reward) with it default name. Have not thought of something better.
And finally I just got the Yellowstone Runabout. It still has its default name and I need to think of one for it. Maybe something about being a workhorse?
My Tactical Odyssey is the USS 'Hayabusa', with a Yellowstone Runabout 'Max Planck.' It used to have a shuttle called 'Suzuki.' I ride a 2005 Suzuki Hayabusa, and I like the name - Japanese for Peregrine Falcon.
I have an Intrepid class USS 'Neil Peart', and a Mirror Patrol Escort USS 'Geddy Lee' as I am a huge RUSH fan.
Main Fed toon has a fleet Escort named: "The Pale Horse"

The name goes back to WW2 when a female Scottish ariscrot with the surname MacRobert lost three of her son's within weeks of each other. When the Royal Air Force where developing a new bomber (a Stirling) she donated funds to the development of the aircraft with the understanding it would bear her family name. The aircraft was named MacRoberts Reply as it was a mother's reply to the German forces for the loss of her son's.
Ever since then the Royal Air Force has always had an aircraft bearing that name even today. So just like there has been an Enterprise throughout our history, I feel it only fitting the name MacRoberts Reply should also still remain.
My Vesta is the U.S.S. Palatine - after one of the seven hills of Rome. It's also the hill where Romulus initially wanted to found Rome. Romulus murdered his brother Remus here, and since the Vesta was released not long before LoR I thought it was very fitting with the theme. Especially so since the rest of the Vesta class ships were named after the seven hills of Rome.
My Odyssey is, well... the U.S.S. Odyssey NCC-97000. Boring I know, just thought it could be the commissioned version of the NX prototype.

All my ships since beta have been the U.S.S. Thunderchild after the Akira class seen in star trek first contact. even have the same Starfleet reg but with a 9 in front, well except on my corvette, that's just Thunderchild. oh just posted this and seen my avatar is also that same ship lol. funny that I never have had that ship in sto was in cruisers until I got the risen corvette. oh and my captain is Davian Thule from dawn of war 2

I watched a mini series call "HORNBLOWER" a tale of a midshipman in the Royal Navy in the late 1700s, and 1800s. I loved the show and the names of 2 ship he served on really had meaning to me.

My fleet Defiant is named U.S.S Johnston, after the destroyer escort from the WW2 battle of Leyte Gulf. When Admiral Kurita's center force, including the Yamato, was allowed to drive unopposed right at Admiral Sprague's unit of vulnerable escort carriers, Lt Commander Evans of the U.S.S. Johnston drove full speed at the entire enemy fleet firing every gun and torpedo he had, severely damaging an IJN heavy cruiser. The other two destroyers then joined in, with the aid of the escort carriers they launched a counter attack so vicious that Admiral Kurita thought he had encountered Admiral Halsey's 3rd fleet in its entirety, so Kurita retreated. The Johnston did not survive the battle of course, but it's final act would have inspired an entire Klingon opera..
On my Rommie, all my ships are named after things from the Chronicles of Riddick franchise. >.> Her T5 ship is a mirror ha'feh named Teacup with a runabout named tin key. >.>
On my Betazoid Feddy, she has all spiritual animal names, mostly wolves and dragons. She is currently flying the USS Diri Lupa.

My crimelord character, Sabbat flies the IRW Doppelganger a Dreadnought class Scimitar which is named because he is an alternate dimension variant which replaced the original crime lord character I played. So it's sort of a clever play.
The primary ship I use is a Prometheus Class (with Phoenix saucer) which I called the USS Essex-B - I decommissioned the ShiKahr and named this ship after her, my first ship which was rather boringly called after the county where I live, but have since found out has been used by the Royal Navy.
The secondary ship I sometimes use are:

I have a USS Heermann kicking around somewhere, which was another participant in that same engagement. Heermann fired a torpedo spread that bracketed the Yamato and forced it to break away to evade, keeping it out of the fight for several minutes. Heermann was the only survivor of the destroyer screen.
My other notable ships are the Sovereign-class Bastogne, the Galaxy-R Chosin Reservoir, and the Galaxy Nathanael Greene. Seeing a pattern?
My Fleet Defiant is called the U.S.S. Atrocity because when it warps into a system you know an atrocity is about to be committed and that no survivors will be left to tell the tale:eek:
My main is the USS Bainbridge NCC 91136, named after Commodore William Bainbridge who commanded, amongst others, the USS Constitution. One of my Alts is a Yeoman on the TOS era USS Constitution NCC 1700 and she is the Great Great Grandmother of my main character.

In game I've seen hundreds if not thosends of ship names and most of them are unique. This made me curious to see if these names were chosen for a reason or just because it sounded cool.
My current ship is called U.S.S. SHIRLY WALLIS.
It's named after my mother inlaw who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Before that it was called the U.S.S. BECKS-VIER

Alright, so after getting a few more wonderful ships from the Summer Giveaway, I have a few more ship names.
For my Federation character:
U.S.S. Axiom (Nebula class)- There is actually a very interesting story behind this name. I am a regular participant in pen-and-paper RPG sessions, and right now, my group is doing a Star Trek campaign. The campaign is set just after the Dominion War, aboard a battered Nebula class called the Axiom, and I decided to replicate the ship in STO. Of course, if the GM ever gets back into STO and decides to buy a Nebula for herself, I might just let her have the name instead (seeing as she came up with it) and call my Nebula something different.
U.S.S. St. Lawrence (Yellowstone Runabout)- I pretty much used the name of my previous Danube Runabout and carried it over to the Yellowstone. It is so named because Runabouts, as a rule, are named after rivers, and the St. Lawrence is the most significant river in Canada.
For my KDF Orion:
I.K.S. Oricar (Orion Marauder carrier)- The Oricar is actually an Orion war-barge that plays a pivotal role in my character's backstory. Naturally, I couldn't resist creating the Oricar in-game...though given the Marauder's appearance, I was tempted to call it the I.K.S. Space Hamster instead.
I.K.S. Slann (Gorn Phalanx Science ship)- In Warhammer Fantasy, the Lizardmen race is ruled by the Slann, a species of giant, atrophied, hyperintelligent frogs who are the most powerful mages in the game. I thought the name was fitting for a reptilian science vessel.
Sor'cha (To'Duj fiighter)- Randomly-generated name. Moving on.
I.K.S. Stark (Risian Corvette)- You have three guesses as to what colours I painted this ship in. :P
To be honest, it seemed obvious to me--I risked being wrong, but I assumed that Stark stood for Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, thus Iron Man colors, thus Red and Yellow. :cool:

So i got my Wells and now I had to think of a name for it.
I, for some reason wanted to keep the shuttle name, so it became the USS Sherlock Holmes.
When I upgraded the DF shuttle to a timeship, the name carried over.
