most of mine are named for ships that I had command of in various space themed mucks back in the day. Missy's current ship is the USS Nighthawk, (the muck version was a dimension traveling ship that looked like a cross between an SR-71 and the Enterprise D) while Schrodi has the Scylla (which was CSA instead of USS, stood for Cygnus Sector Authority). Polekitty had the Powhatan, which I picked from the random generator when I couldn't think of one, but has moved up to the Galaxy class she named her ship after the EAS Agamemnon.

My Ambassador-Class is called the U.S.S. Excalibur, after the canon Ambassador-Class of the same name.

My Vesta-Class is called the U.S.S. Bunker Hill, after the famous first Battle at Boston for U.S. Independence (ironic, since I'm British myself).

My Tactical Odyssey-Class is named the U.S.S. DeForest Kelley, after the actor who played Leonard 'Bones' McCoy in Star Trek: TOS, who is sadly no longer with us.

Thanks! :D I certainly appreciate the effort made, but the reason I opted for an English name was so that those who never delve into the Klingon (which I'm assuming is the majority) would not just overlook the ship as "just another" IKS Gobblety-guuk. I suppose if I ever get into RP, then I'll pay for a name change.

My current Excelsior Retrofit cruiser is named USS Halsey after famed World War II admiral William "Bull" Halsey.

My Envoy-class exploration cruiser had the same name.

I have also named one of my leutenant-rank ships USS Beaker after the Muppet.

R.R.W. D'Monic - Didn't want to go as far as using real Romulan words but I think this play on the style is fitting considering this ship uses a fair amount of energy drains and CC.

U.S.S. Nostradamus - I just like the name. I don't know why but 3 syllables seems to be the best sounding for starships. She's an Odyssey class that goes on deep space missions. I have an urge to create some sort of temporal storyline with this ship if I ever decide to rp.

You may be disappointed to know that tI'bagh translates to "One who plants vegetables."

    Actually, that kinda works...

I'm reminded of the old advertising slogan... the one about "two thousand perforations let the flavour flood through". *arms wing cannons and takes aim*

My Holst-based naming scheme has featured here before... about a hundred posts ago, I think. Since then, the only new ship I've acquired has been the Risian corvette, which got named after a very obscure Holst song... the RXS Bluff King Hal.

Here are some of the ship names I'm rolling at the moment:

USS Pax Federatica (Odyssey): My usernamesake is a play on the Pax Britannica.

USS Kitty Hawk (Atrox): A triple-entendre referring to (1) the ship class's Caitian origin and (2) carrier type, as well as to (3) where the Wright brothers flew their first airplane.

USS Pathfinder (Vesta): A canon reference to the Pathfinder Project, as well as the name of an early Mars rover.

USS Mockingjay (Armitage): A Hunger Games reference. (I also used to have an ISS Panem, a Mirror science vessel, as well as two Harry Potter-inspired Mirror vessels, the assault cruiser ISS Voldemort and Prometheus escort ISS Fiendfyre.)

USS Bhagavan (Mobius): A reference to the Bhagavad Gita, an ancient Sanskrit text whose most famous line is the ship's motto: "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." (See what I did there?) ;)

RRW Mothra (Ha'apax): I've always thought the Ha'apax resembles a giant moth, so I named mine after one. (See also my Chimera destroyer USS Condor, an ugly-TRIBBLE$ bird named after another ugly-TRIBBLE$ bird.)

Two of my other Romulan warbirds are named for heroic Romulan figures who stood up to the Empire in one way or another: The RRW N'Vek (Mogai) and the RRW Alidar Jarok (Drid'thau).

    Risian Corvette - Anthemusa
Risa is a pleasure planet. The Corvette acted as a siren song for everyone. Anthemusa was one of the islands that the Sirens inhabited.

Next two ships - Gantrithor and Shield of Aiur.

Look at my name. It's shortened from Khassar De Templari, a Protoss saying. Now my Jem'Hadar Dreadnought Carrier was named after the Shield of Aiur. The Shield of Aiur was a Protoss Mothership. The flagship of the Golden Armada. Seeing as how her shields are tough, and I haven't lost her yet, I thought it appropriate to name her this.

Now the Gantrithor is my Defiant. And it has a tendency to ram targets that damage her pretty badly as a last resort. Now the Gantrithor is also a Protoss ship. Tassadar infused his ship with light and dark energies to create a massive psionic bullet to kill the Overmind that implanted itself within the Protoss homeworld.

    That's about it..

Dreadnought class. Two times the size, three times the speed. Advanced weaponry. Modified for a minimal crew. Unlike most Federation vessels, it's built solely for combat.

Currently, my Federation Engineer has three main ships:

U.S.S. Ivanova (Sovereign class)- You know...I actually forget who the ship is actually named after. I think this Ivanova person was a cosmonaut or something? :P

U.S.S. Kon Tiki (Ambassador class)- Named after the famous raft with which Thor Heyerdahl crossed the Pacific. I think the name was appropriate for what is still essentially an explorer ship.

Naqarra (Risian Corvette)- I actually decided to use the Risian Corvette to stand in for a ship belonging to my Alien Captain's parent species. As such, I went with an alien, but still rather pleasant-sounding, name for the ship. I may decide to feature the Naqarra in a future LC one day.

My KDF Orion, in the meantime, is currently running:

I.K.S. Qa'rol (Hegh'ta Bird of Prey)- According to an online Klingon dictionary I used, the name Qa'rol literally means "really big black bird, larger than the notqa'." I thought this was appropriate, since my Norgh Bird of Prey was called the Notqa (black bird). My Quldun BoP, incidentally, used a randomly-generated name, the Kor'bak.

And finally, my Romulan Science Lady has run, in succession:

R.R.W. Keras (T'liss-class)- An old-school warbird named, fittingly enough, after Mark Lenard's Romulan Captain from the TOS episode "The Balance of Terror."

R.R.W. Arien (Dhelan-class)- Randomly-generated name ahoy. Moving on.

R.R.W. Aen'Temar (Mogai-class)- According to a Rihannsu dictionary I found, this roughly means "wing of night." Seeing as the Mogai looks like a gigantic flying wing, I thought this was appropriate.

My ships, Feds, are named after ships in the civilian fleet from Battlestar Galactica (RDM Version).

U.S.S./I.S.S. Pyxis, U.S.S./I.S.S. Daru Mozu, U.S.S./I.S.S. Faru Sadin, U.S.S./I.S.S. Inchon Valle

Why? Because BSG is too awesome to not combine with Trek and relive all over again.

In game I've seen hundreds if not thosends of ship names and most of them are unique. This made me curious to see if these names were chosen for a reason or just because it sounded cool.

My current ship is called U.S.S. SHIRLY WALLIS.
It's named after my mother inlaw who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Before that it was called the U.S.S. BECKS-VIER
    after my favourite beer. Lol

My characters have many ships. Just going to name one of each.

    Vice Admiral Ycawin "Yun-In" Yunara

U.S.S. Discovery, Bellerophon class Long Range Science Vessel Retrofit.
Yun-In's ships are all named after songs by the awesome Korean singer BoA. "Discovery" is a nice song by her and a nice fit for the LRSV-R, since one of the ship's hull configurations in-game is the Discovery class.

    Vice Admiral M'Tai

U.S.S. Princess Luna, Odyssey class, Operations variant.
M'Tai's shps are named after characters from "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic". Princess Luna is best princess.

    Lt. General Aylema "Aylyn" Daryn

I.K.S. Daedalus, B'Rel Bird of Prey Retrofit.
Named after STAG's ultimate weapon in Saints Row: The Third, who also had a ship named Thermopylae...

Luna may be best Princess, but Fluttershy IS best Poneh!

Well I usually go with whatever I get dealt when I claim the ship, ex. Liberator, Geissen, etc. But recently when requisitioning more advanced vessels, I name them after the canon captains of the same models, I.e. USS Janeway, USS Sisko(:

OH! I forgot one.. and it's my favorite ship... I had won a pink alfa pet, and sold it to this wonderful Orion lady. She's been my fried for... well, forever, really, and so she gave me 20 mil for it. 20 million... which is probably the highest amount I have ever had on my person. 1st Aquarius Fleet (I think that's who they are) was selling access to their Tier V shipyard, so I took that twenty million and purchased a Fleet Assault Cruiser from them. I had no idea what to name it, so I named it the U.S.S. Sterling, naming it after what can only be described as one of the sweetest and greatest friends I could ever ask for in the Klingon Empire. (That and she put a few dings in my 1st Sovereign I got when I hit level 40.)

Now I'm done naming my ships.

I usually have a theme that I follow as I level the character and get them new ships.

My first fed science captain was named after famous people who contributed to science, his current ship being the U.S.S. Armstrong as it was commissioned in the week he passed away

My tactical had the theme of ancient civilizations such as Sparta, Parthia and his current ship the U.S.S. Roman

My klingons tend to have a bit more of comedy in the names, such as my Vo'quv called the I.K.S. Winneb'ago.

My Daeinos Heavy Destroyer is named "R.R.W. e'Karus" - after Icarus.

    I follow themes as well.

My main Fed character, Moogie (Ferengi) pilots a D'Kora named the U.S.S. Acquisition.

My main KDF character, Roife (joined Trill), is a scientist dedicated to peace and healing, not an easy way to go in the Klingon empire. :) He pilots the I.K.S. Roj, which means peace in Klingon.

My Fed-Allied Romulan, Ael (Aenar/Romulan Hybrid) has piloted ships named after Roman gods, as a nod to the belief that Paul Shneider created the Romulans as a Roman-like species. Now at VA, she pilots the IRW Caelus, after the god of the sky.

My KDF-Allied Reman, Nirrzan is only level 13. Her ships are being named after cave-dwelling animals. So far she has piloted a T'Liss Light Warbird named the Typhlocaris (cave shrimp) and a Dhelan warbird named the Olm (cave salamander)

No real theme and probably quite plain.

I only have one char, a Fed Tac.

1st ship, the one you get in the tutorial; U.S.S. Guardian, named after a fictional high-speed battlecruiser/battleship I made up as a kid for star trek games with my brother. He also made one and called it U.S.S. Aurora.

Next ship was a Thunderchild class; U.S.S. Skye Yu, now renamed U.S.S. Little Skye Yu.
Then the Patrol Escort (non fleet version as I'm not in a fleet); U.S.S. Skye Yu, this is the ship I fly all the time.
There is also the summer event corvette; R.X.S. Little Skye Yu.

So who/what is Skye Yu? Skye is my (now) 14 month old daughter.

I also have the T3 Ambassador cruiser (mission reward) with it default name. Have not thought of something better.

And finally I just got the Yellowstone Runabout. It still has its default name and I need to think of one for it. Maybe something about being a workhorse?
    SigPic_01_zpspudusvou.png

Yes, I fly a Dreadnought cruiser. Deal with it.

Before I got insanely lucky on my seventh ever lock box, I flew the RSV USS Crick.

Loved that ship, and its Delta Flyer shuttlecraft the USS Watson.

I'll pause to let those who don't get the connection make a swift google search.

So i got my Wells and now I had to think of a name for it.

I, for some reason wanted to keep the shuttle name, so it became the USS Sherlock Holmes.

When I upgraded the DF shuttle to a timeship, the name carried over.
