Before the thread gets locked due to necro posting... the forums transitioned to the ownership of Perfect World Entertainment. As a result, your PWE account is being used for posting, not your old Cryptic account, and your post count and name reflect this change. Anything you posted before will be listed under the user "Archived Post."

Necro posting !! i see did not notice it was an old post just did search on F2P this was top of the list But thank you for the reply :)

Big fan of the game, and I've returned recently from a hiatus.
I spend money in the cash shop (around $20 a month for any month I'm active), and I've been interested in the gold monthly sub, but I just don't see a strong benefit in it. Gold members, what are the biggest benefits for you? And cryptic, are there plans to make it more incentivized to pay monthly?

Based on Experience so far, Yes! especially when a single zen charge will remove a lot of the restrictions and the rest can be unlocked through zen charges(based on feature matrix page).

My Question: How long will it be before I have full posting privileges?

Yes, STO's F2P is much better. In fact, it's so good, when it first came out, a lot of people complained that there was no reason to go gold. Personally, even though I was and continue to be a subscriber, I'm happy with it because it opens up the game to a lot more people.

As for posting privileges, with the switchover to the new forums some time ago, I don't think there are any restrictions anymore. And if you can post here, then you should be good to go.

Wierd I'm getting this message at the top of the forum:
At this time, you may only post replies to threads that have already been created. After a certain amount of time has passed since your registration date, you will be able to create new threads in forums that allow it.
    Can I safely ignore it?

Hmm, I'm not sure. I've been a gold member the entire time. I remember when the F2P first came out, you had to reach level 10 before you could post, but with the new forums, that went away.

When these forums came out, I used a PWE account to post without linking it to my Cryptic account and was able to make new threads right away, but maybe that's changed since then.

According to the Features Matrix forum access is supposed to be unlimited for silver members, but they might have added some sort of time delay now. You can always try to make new threads, and if you can't, I guess you just have to wait.

    @perk13 & Everyone considering SWTOR

My experience with SWTOR is being told there were going to be restrictions and that they can be removed by purchasing "Unlocks". However it turns out not all of the promised "Unlocks" in question were available(Fleet Access for example). Also it was possible to have a payment declined, even when using their gift card. If you do manage to get the store credits, it's possible that the unlock may disappear from the account. Also only paid up subscribers may post in the forums, which in most free 2 play mmo's is really the only course of support.. The only support you get for free 2 play is access to the knowledge-base, which is useless when account unlocks start disappearing, or you can't pay to fund your account.

Question:Since I can't post anywhere yet, I guess posting it here would be ok. Apologies if this isn't the right place. I am running a Volcan Engineer and would like advice on where to put the first 10 levels of skill points. I currently am piloting my starter ship. I am trying to work on a team oriented Fabrication build.

    Sincerely,

    Lieutenant Grade 1 Markas Carter

All right, you may demote me if this is in the wrong thread. It probably is. My question is, is the space combat more focused around strategy and tactics or is it more of a Star Wars/WWII experience?

I'd say it's more of a mix between the two. Each class of ship and player class has its share of differences. For single player missions, it's just matter of how long do you really want to spend against a mob. For other events with players, such as PvP, its a matter of strategy. Below are just the basics of what the ships can do.

Escorts: Fast ships, great damage potential but can't take on huge numbers of enemies at once because defenses.

Cruisers: Designed to take punches as well as be able to dish out damage to some degree.

Science ships: More focus on debilitation of ships here.

    Noble Players or Developers,

How does one go about getting the rest of the above mention items to complete the Reman set? Like an idiot I asked on ESB and was told to just keep repeating the "Coliseum" mission, and it's a random drop. Now I have five Shield Arrays (very nice indeed), that I can't sell or trade, and an Sunday afternoon wasted on doing a long mission multiple times.

Please advice. Have a nice day and live enough to be a burden to your children.

I'm a returning player that left right before the duty officer patch came out, not sure on when exactly that was. Could someone please let me know how the duty officers work and what other changes I should know about that has happened since? I'd like to catch up on gameplay before I can finally play Romulans in May.

Most of the over 300 responses in this thread stretch a time span of over a year since the game went free to play, and come from hundreds of different people, most of which will be in different fleets, and some that likely don't even play anymore. Who exactly were you trying to get in contact with?

In game, there's an ability to search fleets, which can also set their time zones they are generally available. You could attempt to find a fleet using that that is active during the times you are available, though it's statistically doubtful that many of them would have posted in this thread before.

Duty Officers are the 'rest of your crew' on your ship - the ones that aren't your bridge officers. You can send them out to do tasks that are things you as the captain don't really need to personally attend to, and in return, get rewards back such as skill points, dilithium, commendation experience and sometimes even items in return for successes.

When you are able to start working with the duty officer system, you'll get a mission from Lt. Ferra automatically, and if you talk to him, he will tell you more about the system. If you're one of those people who don't like to read things in game, then there is an entire Duty Officer forum you can ask questions in.

Also take note of the two stickied threads in that forum, which will likely also contain most of the answers to questions you may have. Duty Officers 101 and the Recruitment Guide for how to get more duty officers.

Hi, I have just ranked up to Lieutenant and finished the tutorial mission. I got an email saying I could buy a Constitution, Oberth or NX class ship to change to straight away.

I did so and it cost me 500 zens, but when I go to the shipyard and go to the sellect ship guy there is only the starter ship in there?

How do I change to the Constitution class?

Ah, the select ship guy is only for switching between ships that you already have. You have to go to the counter down the stairs to the right first and claim your Connie there. After that is when you go to the select ship guy and set your Connie to your active ship.

Thanks, I figured it out. I had to select it from my inventory first, now the USS Tesla is out there kicking TRIBBLE & taking names. :D
