That might be plausible if you're in Asia, but I'm in the U.S. and cross no trans-oceanic cables to reach Cryptic servers.
If thats the case, then what does your Trace Route and Net Test results looks like? Unless you post that information, no one would have any ideas on whats causing your performance issues....
I did capture some traceroutes earlier (but lost them when the game blue screened my Windows - haha), and the traffic does go to the Cogent colo in the Boston area. Average latency for me is between 49ms and 113ms.
And you know this how? It could be an upstream provider issue, but it could very well be an issue within their data center(s). You seem to think "network issue" only means ISP issue.
As for "whining and crying" to Cryptic, they are the provider and we are the customers. Even if you're right and the problem is something 3rd party, it is Cryptic's responsibility to get it fixed.
See the other posts from people who actually know what they are talking about. The tools are out there, go make use of them if you are curious. If you cant be bothered, then you can either shut up and wait patiently til the problem is resolved, or whine and cry like a spoiled consumer about how it's Cryptic's responsibility to check every meter of cable between their servers and your basement.
They havent resolved jack schitt. Game is still disconnecting every 10 mins or so and booting lots of players simultaneously. Its also messing up the launcher at times as well.
This,
It's hilarious when you're in an STF and one by one, the whole team freezes, and gets disconnected = FAIL
And we're talking about a vote kick?
Seriously,
Got disconnected, couldn't log right back on due to launcher issues, when I finally got back on, not only was the mission over, but I also had a leaver penalty.
Then there's the lag pulling me through walls at Earth spacedock.....the one minute delay when moving items in your inventory, or bank.....
The tools are out there, go make use of them if you are curious.
I asked you how you knew, since you came across as having first-hand knowledge which I knew you did not. I do suspect you were a member of Delta Iota Kappa though.
If the problem was within Cogent's network or between Cryptic and Cogent, there's no tool an end-user can run to see that status.

Listen tpolesmoker, you really need to work on your ad hominem attacks; the basement line is so beneath you. {rimshot}
While we are the customers of Cryptic, Cryptic is the customer of Cogent, and yes Cogent has the responsibility of keeping their service up and running. If they fail to do so Cryptic can find another provider. It's not our job to complain to Cogent on their behalf.

Clearly, the shutting up and waiting patiently part is beyond you. I didnt realise it WAS your job to complain about cryptic not complaining to cogent... which of course you somehow know they arent doing? Why exactly are you ******** again?
But please, keep posting and see how much faster it makes the problem go away.

However, in the majority of cases where people have posted their Trace Route and Net Test results, the connection issues are showing up before the packets hit the PWE gateway, so issues within the private PWE network doesn't appear to be the problem...
Question ... Do the STO servers share bandwidth at Cryptics end with their other games? eg CO and NWN?
Dev's comment indicate that CO does share the same network as the STO servers. But local LAN bandwidth is orders of magnitude faster (because of the shorter distances), and the total bandwidth used is much smaller then the Internet backbone networks, so its unlikely that the shared networks are the source of the problem...

Dont try to tell mister freeman anything... since he KNOWS that there's no way for someone else to figure out where the problem might lie. Obviously the only solution is to yell at cryptic and throw childish insults at others on the forum who point out that the problem might not be where everyone seems to think it is.

I was just wondering as NWN is available for download right now for LTS and beta members. I dead to think what sort of bottleneck we are going to experience when NWN launches. There would be a significant load on their main gateway it if is shared.
Just got booted twice in the last 30 minutes... Dont care where the issue lies, Cryptic is the one taking our money, they are the one that get the complaints, end of story.
Frankly if the effort to create new content was matched by the effort of quality control, there would be no issue. Its seems for every bug that's repaired by a patch, two more appear. Customer service is non existant, and the issues that effect individuals ability to enjoy this game are happening continually. This game works incorrectly more times than correctly, and that's horrendous.
Bottom line: we are complaining to cryptic because the service most are paying for is not being provided... continually. Better effort needs to be put into making this happen, and until it does ill just F2P til i see improvement.
Just about every time somebody posts their tracert, it shows that the problem lies with the Cogent connection in Boston, Massachusetts...
It's coming up with both USA and European posters.
Has anybody from Australia posted a tracert yet?
I'm curious to see if they go through the same connection or not.

Pick a number of locations, try to hit the major trunks. Hasnt disco'd me at all tonight, so cant really check again.

Side note, complain all you want, but a) you likely arent justified in doing so in this case, and b) Cryptic/PWE is not liable anyways. http://www.perfectworld.com/about/terms
18. Interruption of Service
(a) PWE reserves the right to interrupt the Service from time to time on a regularly scheduled basis or otherwise with or without prior notice in order to perform maintenance. You agree that PWE will not be liable for any interruption of the Service, delay or failure to perform resulting from any causes whatsoever. (b) You acknowledge that the Service may be interrupted for reasons beyond the control of PWE, and PWE cannot guarantee that you will be able to access the Services or your Account whenever you may wish to do so. PWE shall not be liable for any interruption of the Services, delay or failure to perform resulting from any causes whatsoever.
(c) PWE has the right at any time with or without reason to change and/or eliminate any aspect(s) of the Services as it sees fit in its sole discretion.
(d) PWE is not be obligated to refund all or any portion of any Account fee (if any), by reason of any interruption of the Services by reason of any of the circumstances described in paragraph (a) or (b).
Would explain why the download speed for patches is so disgusting. yet again it was like that when i first joined before they changed hands to PWE. seriously fix ya sh*t. so over these terrible patching speeds and consistent disconnects and lag spikes.
It could also be that in the real world, nearly all of the trans-pacific cable links are over-subscribed for their capacity, and the only real solution is to lay more cables to meet the ever growing demand for more bandwidth...
As if Cryptic/PWE has control over current conditions, or can afford the multi-billion dollar costs of laying a new link...
You mean except for the part where I live in Canada?

Do you get paid to White Knight by any chance, or do you just come into people's threads who are having issues and tell them to shut up and deal with it on a regular basis? Either way I don't appreciate your hijacking an issues thread I started with this attitude.
You mean except for the part where I live in Canada?
Nice how you take a quote out of context... Now if you really wanted some help with your performance issues, you would be posting your Trace Route and Net Test Diagnostic results...

I took nothing out of context, I quoted your entire post. Stop defending them, grouch...they don't need your help and you most assuredly are not helping anyone in this thread. I started this thread not because of any performance issues on my end but because of issues in-game...as reported by many others since I started the thread, and apparently in other threads as well.
Posting my tracert won't help you or any other player do anything because you can't do anything. It's not a home issue, they know it:
As some of you have reported, the server looks healthy, so this is most likely a networking hiccup as Champs is also affected. The team continues to investigate.
Cheers,
Brandon =/\=
And on that note, why did it get moved over here anyway?
