My most recent bad STF wasn't actually that bad, just a lot of work on my part. We lost one person due to a disconnect for a KSE. Hit the tac cube, and I went to handle right probes - we were organized, and had someone on left probe duty. The other two went to start taking down the left gateway.
Now, don't get me wrong - we got the optional with 20 seconds to spare (), but I basically did over 60% damage to the tac cube in the beginning, solo'd the 2 cubes on my side, and finished off a cube that wandered over from the left with 80% health remaining. I took out the generators, transformers, and gateway on my side and still had time to rejoin the group and blow 5 generators, the remaining cube, and everything else.
Such a lot of work. Nice people, just not very good. One of them was all "GG! We did great with just 4 people!" while I'm biting my tongue.
Nothing wrong with autofire if you know what you're doing - I have one button specifically mapped to both clear target and recall fighters.
I've blown a generator early before (because we can't really cancel our plasma torps), but I do enough DPS (around 12k on target) to blow the transformer before anything gets there anyway.
best way that most people do it and faster is while team goes right, kills all nanites, 1 escourt shoots trash going for kang, comes back to group, pops first cube team goes mid, escourt kills trash on left coming for kang, back to mid kills mid, works on left gg kill carrier.
This is completely wrong. RML only works in teams with sufficient DPS - when I'm with good people (most members of UFP and our allies, or private STF channels) we can do RML and clear CSE in around 5 minutes. In a PUG or groups from public channels, MRRMLL is safest and easiest because... well, some people suck. :P
estf channel is a joke. sorry to group all you guys but from what ive seen it deems true
When I first joined PESTF, it was good. People all knew what they were doing (10%, MRRMLL, 3/2 split on KSE) and had competent builds. Recently it's been full of weaksauce that's barely better than PUGs. (Like the 3 I mentioned in my story above.) It's like weak people heard "Oh, there are strong players there" and joined en masse, utterly diluting the quality of the inhabitants.

dont say such things. them ppl on the estf channels are real hc players...
srsly, estf channel is only for those, who dont want to pug stuff, and want a team, who knows atleast one tactic, that is not rly required, but atleast foolproof... (though they can annoy me with their 10% ISE thingie, when its clear, that we do not need that, and I pop "early")
Went into Infected space on my healer. One guy had 27 critical ship injuries. His shields would flicker on and off! Pure waste of my heals. So I say something about getting his ship fixed before doing elite STFs and he responds "oh this is nothing, I once had 65 injuries going"

Yeah, I had some really bad runs with people from the EliteSTF channel -.- Sometimes even worse than pure pugging xD
There is something that I have come to understand in the long time that I've been playing stf's and that is that it seems to me I'm the only one able to protect the kang in Cure or stop the probes in Khitomer. I say this because, everytime I warp in to cure no one is protecting the Kang. They've all run off to attack a cube. In Khitomer everyone runs off to attack a generator forgetting the probes. So there I am stopping them. Or people start out protecting Kang or stopping probes then move off to attack a cube/generator. Makes me laugh.

The main problem with STFs (and PVE... and PVP...) is the lack of communication within the team. If everyone knew their roles in whatever STF, things would go much smoother - however, it's the following types of people who frak up the mission:
1) Noobs who are using <Mk X gear. *I can pull off an STF with white Mk X gear, if I so needed to. It's all in the build.
2) Noobs who don't know what the chat box is, or have it shut.
3) Noobs who don't know what they are doing in the mission, and fail to ask for help.
4) The "wannabe-Fleet Commanders" who try to order people to do stuff. No one wants to listen to you!
5) Trolls. *Nothing you can do if you get one of these. Report them.
6) AFKers or people who tab-out in the mission loading screen. *Report them.

Easiest solution to both above posts:
Don't pug.
Go to PublicEliteSTF, ask how to do things, and answers will be given (most of them not troll). If you team with players from there, roughly 50% are competent, 25% good, 10% VERY good, and 15% idiots. Thankfully you usually get the other 85%.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.
Had a KASE run with a myself in an Armitage, and buddy in an Oddy, twopuggers in Breen ships and one guy I don't know, because he was AFK the whole time. Needless to say we started out short with our AFK'er, but KASE is still winnable with 4. Unfortunately the two Breen Ship players showed up with damaged ships and only provided cannon fodder for the gates to laugh at. after about 10 minutes of making slow headway, my buddy in the Oddy and I decided to let the mission fail, since we were getting zero support from the other 3. Before leaving I mentioned to the other players that before doing an Elite STF, they should be willing and able to finish the mission. One of the Breen ship members messaged me that he tried as hard as he could. My response was basically trying means nothing if you're not equipped and are unable to repair yourself in-mission.
"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."

I was running cure elite pug last night and 2 of the members decided they were just going to sit at the spawn and let us do all the work and the other 2 i was with who decided to actually do something both had like 12 injuries each..
we obviously did not make optional but somehow we managed to beat the map only took an hour cause bevous and butthead died every 5 secounds and by the end of the match they had like 3 copies of each injury..
leave me and my mobious to do all the work..
at the end i asked them what they were using for shields and weapons, here they are running MK VIII equipment on their oddy's,
both were from the same fleet to i might add, if i was there fleet leader i would have booted there asses for that lol
Mark VIII? Doesn't the Odyssey come with Mk X as default?

Did a KASE last night and it was taking 2 cruisers to deal with the probes on a single side. With that sort of firepower, or lack of it, there was no way we would complete it in time.
If you can't deal with the probes by yourself, you shouldn't be doing Elites missions.
One of the Breen ship members messaged me that he tried as hard as he could.
Wait, he showed up damaged, but he said he tried as hard as he could?
That sounds like a lot of ignorance, I hope you pointed him to a shipyard for repairs.
LOL at this. Some people just don't have a clue, do they?

this whole weekend starting saturday has been a joke. from people in rainbow boats who volunteer to kill probes but can't solo just two of them, to grounders intentinoally knocking the turrets around in cge.
with the way people misbehave online i can't tell if this is bad play or straight trolling. so many dont even acknowledge voice and text chat.
and the afk'ers. holy TRIBBLE.
i'm also starting to see botting. they start at spawn, aim their ship at the nanite transformers and just grind against it shooting in all directions. they repeat this action over and over, and usually have a ton of injuries.
This is one for the ages. KASE. This is from the ESTF channel. I go in, and it looks pretty good. We have myself, an Engi in an Imperial. There is a tac in a bug, and another Engi in the freebie advanced escort. We also have another tac in an Ambassador-R, and a KDF tac in a Mirror Raptor.
However we start off the mission (I am on probe duty, mostly cuz engi cruisers aren't a heck of a lot of good for much else in KASE), and I go in guns blazing ballz deep on the tac cube like an idiot. However this is where I start to get worried. I take aggro on the tac cube. The rest of the team moves in. I still have aggro. The bug and Advanced Escort engage. I still have aggro. The mirror raptor engages. I STILL have aggro. The Ambassador goes in. And I STILL have aggro. The fact I had aggro really didn't bother meas surviving goes, the Imperial is a tough ship. What bothered me was the fact I was holding aggro from all 4 of my allies without any points in threat control and with no threat boosting consoles. Um... ooook.
So tac cube goes down in about 2 minutes, and we move off to our respective duties. I sit and blow probes testing out different ability combos and orders to see which is the most efficient (I only just got the thing two weeks ago, and have only been on my engi 4 times since, give me a break -.-). After hitting my desired rhythm for probe swatting, I sit back and watch the rest of the team. We have a very bored mirror raptor sitting on the other side doing probes, while the bug does it's usual swoop around looking useless while actually being quite deadly. They start to clear their side with disturbing speed and efficiency.
Then I notice something somewhat distressing. Two of my team-mates are dead. The Ambassador and Freebie Prometheus. I look over to see if they got gate-swatted... and all I see is a cube. A REGULAR cube. It then proceeds to kill the freebie escort AGAIN, and then the Ambassador... AGAIN... and again... and again... that cube picked up a good 5 or 6 kills... I was starting to laugh it was so ridiculous. 4 waves of probes later, the cube was FINALLY dead. I look back over at the other side, and just start laughing, because in the time it took for my side to kill that one cube, the other side cleared out a transformer and two cubes. And just as I turned back to watch the hilarity on my side (less than 10 seconds after looking over), the second transformer went down.
Meanwhile back on my side, I blow the second generator and and the cube spawns. I am out of it's aggro range and start having a staring contest with it at 11.1 km. I notice another probe spawned which meant they FINALLY killed the transformer. The Ambassador and prometheus then fly 30 km, yes, 30 behind the gate and cube, and then swoop in on it. They start to attack it. It kills the Ambassador and the prometheus with frightening speed (as in I have no idea how they died so bloody fast), and then attacks me. At this point, I am fed up with those idiots, and proceed to exterminate said cube in roughly 2 minutes (in my defense, I am in a cruiser, and not running and Aux2bat build, also I had to keep on killing probes). Those two came back and helped, and could not draw aggro off of me which was fine, meant they wouldn't be dying. Cube goes down and they start on the transformer.
I on the other hand am busy with the spawn that just arrived (other side blew their gate already) and distract it long enough for the two actual REAL hitters to arrive and they basically insta-gib the transformer and help me out with the sphere and probe spawns. Then all 5 of us focus fire the gate. That poor gate... it went down literally in seconds. Turns out that if nothing is actually shooting at them, those two who spent most of the time dead can actually deal decent damage. I managed to hold aggro for most of it's very short life-span (something about hitting APO1, BFAW2, and TS1 and then going to 2 km), and gate goes boom, probes get slapped, and then on to Donatra.
And here is where it gets interesting. I grab aggro from Donatra, and hold it. Even when the rest of the team engages, she just won't let me go. She keeps on coming on to me, and I say no, but apparently no isn't in her vocabulary and she keeps on coming. Eventually she cloaks, and I get TRIBBLE from the bug about staying 5km away. My response: her engine power is at 125 almost constantly, and I am flying a bloody cruiser. You really expect me to be able to outrun her? Bug shuts up. Donatra de-cloaks and thalarons off in some random direction. Then turns back to me and the dance of death begins again. Still holding aggro, she closes to 4km and cloaks again. At this point in time her shields are mostly down and her hull is around 50%.
Here is where I felt like uninstalling. She decloaks and starts a thalaron blast. And I fly into it. I actually orbit into her charge lines. Didn't realize it until the very last second, hit EM3... and take 102458 damage. However, the Ambassador also gets popped by it. First thought: Wow... did I really just do that. Second thought: LOL SHE GOT SOMEONE ELSE! Third thought: I think I need to uninstall, that was really bad XD. Then it just gets funny, since she turns on the freebie prometheus and just exterminates it. As in he was getting shot at for less than a second and went down. She double torp spreads the Mirror raptor, which survives and gets the hell out of dodge. I respawn and re-engage still burning bright red with embarrassment at having flown INTO a thalaron, and at this point, myself and the bug pony for aggro. She goes down about 15 seconds later under the combined fire of my disruptors and his polarons.
End of the match, I just laugh, partially at the sheer number of injuries on the freebie escort (which started the match with NONE), and at the fail of the Ambassador. The bug and I exchange pleasantries for a few minutes and then he leaves. I am still waiting on crew and CDs so I hang around. The Ambassador is still BMWing about his supposed "bull-TRIBBLE death", and I politely ask him what he is running, and after he tells me, I die of laughter and leave.
So yeah... moral of this story: watch where you fly, and always be ready to carry noobs, even from the ESTF channels.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.
Lately there seems to be a new tactics in KASE - I call it "To hell with the teamwork" tactics.
When you spread 3 to 2, we kill the first two probes and then we start blowing the transformers. The moment we blow two of the four little things, a cube appears of course. What happens next is interesting - the team mates (1 or 2 of them, usually doing below 2500 DPS) run behind the transformer, ignoring the cube and probes...or dive below it at the border of their weapons range, instead of helping killing the cube faster. For me this is just annoying, but for the better part of the player base, it means failed optional, because the probe guardian needs to kill the cube in the meantime, and most of you know how rare it is to have a 6-8k DPS player on the team, anything above I see once a blue moon. A cruiser can do the job, but let me tell you - it ain't easy - I used to do it a while ago in my star cruiser, and it really made me sweat. And it takes time.
Aaaand I bet you can guess what ship the captain that inspired my anger was in - a 3 pack 2500 zen one

Now, don't get me wrong - we got the optional with 20 seconds to spare (), but I basically did over 60% damage to the tac cube in the beginning, solo'd the 2 cubes on my side, and finished off a cube that wandered over from the left with 80% health remaining. A cruiser can do the job, but let me tell you - it ain't easy - I used to do it a while ago in my star cruiser, and it really made me sweat. And it takes time.
Aaaand I bet you can guess what ship the captain that inspired my anger was in - a 3 pack 2500 zen one
Just venting, thank you for reading.
