I swoop toward middle and postion myself below the cube between two sets of nanites where the raptor spawns. I have a simple rotation of CRF, APB, TS followed by CSV, APB, TS hence why I like to pound on two sets at once. In about a minute I pop all four then lay waste to the raptor and hit EM and swoop to setup position on the NegVar. Halfway threw killing the Var I see two of the team esplode and optional fail, oh wells I think and finish off the negvar.
I turn and head right (left cube) and see the raptor is spawned and some BoPs on kang. Slaughter the bops, fire off a few heals at kang and murder the raptor with aid from the team followed by the Var. I head right (right cube) and do the same as it's guards were spawned.
Now I might not communicate much but when things get slightly interesting my situational awareness goes up a notch or three. I know the current combat situation is thus.
- All guards dead
- 4 nanites up on left cube and two team-mates with moderate DPS on them, one has a GW.
- 1 nanite up on middle cube with a teammate working on it, he killed the other I left in the time I played with spawns so his DPS is respectable.
- 2 nanite up on right with a teammate firiing DHCs at the front one
That tells me its time to start murdering cubes! So i swoop in blasting the back nanite on right cube and then lay into the cube till she dies and this is when it gets funny.
"GG noob you just lost this for us" says the moron
"I sorry your DPS sux" replies I
"My DPS is better than anyone in the noob pug group" says the moron
So I pop cooldowns slaughter raptors in middle, slaughter raptors from left and notice someone is putting the pain on that cube. Rapidly fly to mid to finish off that cube and when i blows turned around to kill the Var spawn since the left cube died first (he did have more time to work on it in my defense). At some point of all that this exchange took place.
"I didn't realize the nanites were gone on that cube" says the moron
"Lack of situational awareness is a common rookie trait, noob" I respond
Now here is the thing, I'm not the greatest. But I"m flying a beast fleet defiant with a Tac (http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=550171 posted here) and their is not much that can out perform me in damage. So we begin work on the carrier and I notice a strange thing, I have agro the entire fight likely because I was the only one to close to 2k range but thats not important.
"So if you do more DPS why do I have agro even tho I have a -threat console equipped?"
He declined to comment.

I might have been in that one. Somebody was doing great work on the probes and cubes. Better than I usually do and I was jealous. I remember the 'Noobe' word being thrown around a bit.
tell that to the guy with the 9.3K DPS assault cruiser; i imagine that much firepower could easily handle any part of KSE
Oh, I have more than enough DPS on my FACR to EASILY do any part of KASE. But it tends to get TRIBBLE from tac cruisers and tacscorts if I do anything other than probes, and since I like the extra marks and I don't like having to close my chat window, I just do probes (even though I had one KASE where my FACR and my friend in a Kar'fi killed our side faster than 3 tacscorts, soooo yeah XD).
He had it set up like the Ent-C. DBB, BA, QT and Photon up front, BAS and Photon in rear. But what got me laughing was that he had a phaser relay, photon detonation thingymabober, and a zero point quantum chamber as his tactical consoles. What made me fall out of my chair was his double RCS, single EPS, and single Neutronium, and what killed me was his outright FAIL in science consoles (I.E. sensor booster, a graviton generator, and particle generator). Granted he did have GW1, but still...
And his device slots was pure batteries.
His BOff layout left me wheezing for breath it was so funny.

yeah...that's definitely a prime candidate for the darwin awards, though boarding party wouldn't be so bad if the shuttles were faster and didn't get shot down if someone so much as sneezed in their direction; the havoc they wreak on my ship on the rare occasion a jem'hadar battleship or negh'var manages to slip some through my defenses certainly isn't anything to sneer at

shadowfang240 - if that's a 9.3k DPS, then mine is 14.5k. As far as I know, the DPS is measured while doing the STF as a routine run (and in a PUG), not shooting the entire time at the gate or the transformer in order to avoid drop in DPS - in other words, measure the usefull and well directed DPS. That said, my DPS is in the range of 6.5-7k, and this 9.3k cruiser in a PUG and not shooting aimlessly is more like a 4.5-5k DPS. I'm thinking of doing a badass Fleet Assault Cruiser - probably within a month....depends on when our T5 Shipyard is going to be ready.

I've seen the video and if you have watched it closely, you know that the figure 9.3k is a little misleading.
i don't see how, as the guy was using the ACT, which as far as i know, is the most accurate parser available for the game
EDIT: and yes, i know FAW can 'rack up the numbers' in that program, but he was doing some pretty hefty damage to single targets as well...far more than i can manage in any of my cruisers that don't have cannons

Those are a ISE and KASE from my ship, its far far more tanky than the 9.3k video, but this ship takes one hell of a beating in HOSE too, which I have a video for too.

*whistles* you finished that ISE with 9:07 left on the clock; my best with that mission was 7:00 exactly
also, in the video description, you say engineer-captained cruisers are bad damage dealers, yet i saw you putting out a respectable amount of it through the entire match - certainly more than i've been able to manage on beam cruisers

Well, its sarcastic... if you read the forums eng cruisers can't do any damage.
I don't think that was any particular record for time, though I rarely track time. The more I play with the eng cruiser the more I like it, it has a large lack of spike damage, the broadside limitations are pretty annoying though.

That video is extremely inaccurate for his DPS rating. I'm getting sick of explaining why.
1- He carries a single copy of APB, yet every single target has 4! copies of APB on it at all times.
2- FaWing at insta healers
3- Chrono Torps and Grav Wells giving targets negative defenses
Seriously this is why I hate hate hate that parsing program. It makes people think they are doing something amazing when they are not, the TEAM is allowing them to deal the damage. Solo that ship would be lucky to break 4k and I doubt it can.

act is a brilliant thing, and it is a great thing to have. the inability to understand how it works is not its fault, but the users'.
tbh I think that is a good build, and not as bad, as you would make it, but yeah, the dps is buffed with so many things, that would not be there always, or are not purely useful, like FAW (it is too random, if you could control it as much as CSV, then I would not disregard high dps cruisers built around faw, even though I acknowledge them, good ships, they are not the best to have out there if not built for tanking)
The problem with all AoE firing is hitting the instant healers, cannons do it just as much as BFaW, I'd say that BFaW probably hits a higher percentage of good targets in ISE, as you only hit the transformer and rarely the gate.
The big problem with that video isn't the APBs, its the fact that you don't know how anyone else did either. Whats the point of a DPS log when you only see one blanket statement? Its the details that show you what went on, the blanket tells me this person really doesn't understand all that much .

my point was, that due to the smaler arc of cannons, the CSV is more controllable, so in the end, if you know how to use it, the DPS that does matter, should be higher, even if in the same comparison FAW deals more DPS just by hitting random stuff...
and yeah, the other's dps does matter, as the higher their dps, the better you will do (until a point ofc, where their dps is too high (there is not infinite dmg to deal )
In KASE on an escort I find myself nearly always hitting the transformer and gate with my cannons, but my beam ships take a step back and I'm hitting less useless stuff all the time.
In CSE the cannons seem to hit far more garbage targets than good ones, at least the beams are a good 50/50
In ISE the cannons rarely multi-target well on the generators/transformers, but beams can reach all 4 transformers.
-The Cure Found Space Elite-Really starting to hate it. Why? Because nobody talks! Seriously, someone popped a Cube in that one and didn't tell anyone about it, another guy in an Escort decided to hit the Probes on mid where I was high up and stayed completely still whilst the Cube shot the hell out of him and then only then asked 'Why the sci can't heal?', cause the sci was busy and had just used all her heals so they were on cooldown and you were NOT MOVING, umm, let's see another one where the Escort guarding the Kang kept letting the BoPs get too close to it and smack it around as well as leaving to go fire at Probes so I stayed there healing the thing.... *sigh*. Another one where noone said ANYTHING AT ALL to anyone and two Escorts sat at either side and still couldn't stop it from blowing up....
-Infected The Conduit Space Elite-the guy who popped a generator after asking if everyone knew the 10% rule then turned around and called the entire team a 'noob team' after the spheres got too close and healed the transformer, then proceeded to tell me to deinstall STO and other sexist things (I reported and blocked him afterwards)
-Khitomer Vortex Elite: Yesterday there was a guy in the team with a Rainbow boat. Not just that but he didn't respond at all to instructions, advice, or simply saying 'NO'. We nearly failed the mission entirely because he kept attacking the gate on one side whilst the other hadn't even had all it's generators blown yet. Luckily the rest of the team were actually communicating.
-Another Khitomer Vortex Elite, everything seemed to be going well, the gates had all gone, the probes hadn't gotten through, the Scimitar had just shown up. But.. as soon as the other guys in the team got killed by Donatra, they left. Just left. No word, didn't come back so it wasn't a disconnect, just left. They all left but me and another Captain in a Sci ship. We tried, we really did, but after half an hour of getting nowhere with Donatra, we both left it. Kudos to that guy for staying-not so much for the people who can't handle exploding.
-Ground Elite STFs: I cannot remember what they were called exactly, because I now avoid Ground Elite STFs like the plague because of them unless I have friendly backup. One was a Borg Ground mission where you had to disable the Borg forcefields. Everyone but one guy left as soon as the optional failed. Obviously there weren't enough of us to do it ourselves, so we eventually had to leave. Another was where we all had to go through a forcefield to face a boss at the same time, and one guy kept rushing in, until he was told not to. But immediately after he was told not to, then all the others left. Stop it!
DON'T take rainbow boats into ESTFs, DON'T leave immediately just because someone frakked up the optional-especially if noone said anything at all to anyone the entire time, and DON'T ignore everyone's advice. Ask why, sure, that's fine. For the love of the gods, would people who actually know what they are doing please TALK! If you don't and you're in Khitomer or Cure, then you're also partially to blame if something goes wrong! If that's the case, DON'T resort to name calling, It's immature and idiotic.

-Yesterday, Khitomer Vortex: I was in my Fed sci ship.A guy playing Klingon was being, well, mean and nasty and horrible and going on a rant about how other people should say certain things at the start rather than what was said, and about how saying what I could and couldn't do made me a moron (um, what?) So I had a go back about how he shouldn't assume what people are going to do when they don't say something and how he shouldn't assume he knows where peopld are going via telepathy or what their abilities are, as well as that I'd stated my intentions because since I'd only gotten an answer from one guy at the start that I figured maybe they either didn't speak English or hadn't seen my first message wanting to know what everyone was doing, then he went on another rant that involved a lot of acronyms and how he'd done this soooo many times (with optional! ZOMG! *rolls eyes*), then eventually we blocked each other. Then the others started chiming in, the guy who had been with the guy having a go at me wanting to know why he was by himself over there and if we were all probe hunting, the guy who'd been having a go at me on their side had spawned the Cube which was now wandering... because he'd come over to my side to start shooting at the Cube that me and the only guy who had actually said anything at the start were at to start shooting at our Cube whilst his teammate struggled with theirs. The guy in the Vesta guarding the gate piped up and said that the people who spawned the Cubes should deal with them, I agreed but I think he was talking to the Klink-what with him coming over to our side... The guy on the other side then seems to get annoyed and ignores his Cube so that wanders over to the spawn point, guy in the Vesta then says 'I shnuld let all the Probes through to teach you all a lesson' and then does. by that time though I was so mad that I really didn't care whether it failed or not and tbh was inwardly rooting for him to do it anyway. So, I was very, very mad . Why people gotta be so nasty?

Not the worst Ive seen but merely the most recent, I quened up for an ISE pug yesterday (what can I say I was bored?) I get in, there is a breen ship with 1/2 a screen of wounds, a garumba, oddy and some escort or other(me in Voquv).
Breen guy dies before I even have a chance to clear the OPS report, we pop cube 1 sphere, breen guy respawns and insta gibs from something we kill last sphere.
So the Garumba, the scort, Oddy and I head left to start on the cuble and gate guard. breen guy goes kirking off to the right, now normally we might should have said come left but I think we all thought hed just blow generators early, so better if he plays sir dies alot with r cube. We do however say in chat do not under any circumstances shoot at gens.
any way we pop left cube pop gens together pop gate guard and start to clean up the nanites. During this time breen guy has been alive perhaps a max of 40 sec with prob several minutes worth of respawn timer.
We finish off next to last nanite and what do you think warps in the gate? yup picard over there poped a gen, we left
So I don't think I have ever had one that I could claim was THE WORST for me until now. In CSE and everyone is going all different directions. when one person leaves i finally take Kang and tell everyone to go right and work on the same probes because we were literally getting no where. the only one who verbally agrees goes the opposite direction the other two start on the right side, but quickly decide its better for three to guard the Kang of the four players that are left. I am usually very hard to get angry in an STF or even worse leave an STF. I finally turn to bail getting ready to tell them we were getting know where and it was best for them to let the Kang die when it finally does. I have never been soo happy to get out of an STF.
My worst Borg STF experiences all seem to come from The Cure ground (now it's called The Cure Applied).
One moron couldn't get things to go his way and started screeching "gaaaaaaaay, that is so gaaaaaaayy.... noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" Another avatar called Las Vegas saw that we did not complete the optional mission, and just up and quit. What is the matter with people nowadays? Does that mission bring out the worst in us??

:D:D:D
I'm sorry if you can't out perform a casual PvE player like myself you loose the right to rage.
I might have been in that one. Somebody was doing great work on the probes and cubes. Better than I usually do and I was jealous. I remember the 'Noobe' word being thrown around a bit.
Lt Tac: TT1, THY2
Ens Tac: TS1
Cmdr Engi: ET1, DEM1, RSP2, BP3 (yes, boarding party)
Lt Engi: EPtS1, EPtW2 (possibly his only really intelligent choice)
LtCmdr Sci: TB1, TSS2, GW1 (um... HE?? where are you???)
and I didn't give him a chance to tell me his DOffs, I left since I wanted to live and not die from being unable to breath.
personally, i don't care what anyone thinks about me; i'll go wherever i'm needed, regardless of what i'm flying and regardless of what verbal diarrhea may be spewing forth in team chat in response to it
yeah...that's definitely a prime candidate for the darwin awards, though boarding party wouldn't be so bad if the shuttles were faster and didn't get shot down if someone so much as sneezed in their direction; the havoc they wreak on my ship on the rare occasion a jem'hadar battleship or negh'var manages to slip some through my defenses certainly isn't anything to sneer at

I kind of hinted it was an Oddy when I started to talk about cruisers
shadowfang240 - if that's a 9.3k DPS, then mine is 14.5k. I'm thinking of doing a badass Fleet Assault Cruiser - probably within a month....depends on when our T5 Shipyard is going to be ready.
i wasn't talking about anyone in an STF pug when i mentioned that; i was talking about this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68_UjyPLNLI

i don't see how, as the guy was using the ACT, which as far as i know, is the most accurate parser available for the game

Sighs*
Where can I even begin
Shall I start with rainbow failbot connies or gen popping pricks
Opening a lockbox is like using a public restroom when u gotta poo.
You are just hoping nobody blew on the seat or that all the toilet paper is gone.
ohhhh, start with the rainbow connies; we haven't seen one of those tales in a while
