    Spacedock would be pure chaos.

    Already is my friend.

I'm glad people enjoy the party poppers, but it is exceeding it's good-natured intentions IMO....I mean why do balloons need to be so HUGE? I was simply trying to change ships at ESD and went to get a soda, came back and my game was crawling along. Noticed someone had come in and sprayed the entire floor with huge balloons and could not longer see pretty much anything. It's obnoxious.

Nobody should have to alter their game play, or change settings that otherwise work fine just because Cryptic introduced another snafu. It's not players faults for using it, just another implementation failure not given due forethought.

I don't mind them at all really, it's funny to run into one and launch it into other peoples faces, even had a little party at Club 47 using the balloon as a beach ball knocking it around and trying to keep it off the ground as long as possible. :D

Like someone said earlier - "Max Physical Debris Objects" <--- Set it to 0.

So the people who have poor systems and hate balloons (WHAT!!!) can be happy again!!!

    End of thread!

Whilst I fully admit that I can't stand party poppers at least when I was on ESD on the exchange or bank I could mute my computer and make the bank or exchange screen large and those annoying little gnats ceased to bother me.

This balloon popper, however, creates LAAAAAAAAAAAG. Why was this thing created?!? Now the griefers can actually provide REAL grief to those who have better things to do than annoy everyone else.

Really, how dull must life be if your best option for fun is to use party poppers in a game?

    Change Instance.

EDIT: However, I do agree the new popper could be tweaked somehow to cut down on the amount of lag it creates.

Why should people going about their business change what they're doing because of annoying people? If I'm in a movie theater and some fool is talking on a phone I get an usher and have them escorted out. Why should I have to change theaters on behalf of the idiots?

And if there is only one instance? Right.

I should not have to change instances, gimp my graphics settings, or travel to a different starbase to avoid party popper grief. Those things fire too often, and the balloons last too long.

    1) I edited above after remembering the experience of the lag myself.

    2) It's a game, not a movie theatre.

    3) Party poppers can be fun for most (Especially the 2 from last 2 years). Why should those who enjoy using them give them up for a few like yourself who don't like them?

Open up your options, go to video settings, click the "show advanced video settings" box, scroll down to the detail tab, go down to the bottom of that and look for "Max physics debris objects" and set it to 0. Then, whenever people create balloons, you'll see them briefly as they come out of the party popper, but they disappear instantly once they've been spawned as a movable object. Then you can mute to your heart's content.

I know that this will effect exploded things in ground maps, like grenade shrapnel, blown up turrets, etc, but to be honest that stuff isn't very important or even pretty to look at. I dunno if it has an effects in space.

Happened to me just last night at K7. Balloons everywhere to the point that you couldn't see where you were going, tried to change instance and got the "no possiblemaps" message. Then the game locked up and I had to kill it with task manager.

It was many played games ago since I stopped get "annoyed" by things like this, and later changed all together to enjoy them.

As long as the stuff like the popper doesn't really break the game, affecting some other code I think it's a cool/fun addition.

About the lag it may cause, I think this will only happen for a few days when it's still new and exciting to celebrate the anniversary. :)

In the age on entitlement and "me me me me me" those few who constantly annoy with those infernal things cause people to have to restart the game.

Why do the few have to ruin it for the majority? Why should I have to change instances? Why should I have to adjust my settings? Why should Star Trek have such inane things? Is the player base so small that we need to attract the griefers to boost numbers?

Well that sucked! This is why the devs should revisit this popper and try and tweak them somehow so they don't create so much lag etc. Because I have to admit, they are fun but the lag they create is not!

What kind of connection have you guys got if you're getting lag from this stuff?

Well, I've a 50MB fibre power connection. So that can't be the problem. Not for me anyway.

    Solution:

Upgrade that ancient system of yours. It's not Cryptic's responsibility to cater to the oldest and antiquated systems out there.

It's a social zone, you accept the possibility of being annoyed.

It's not a theater, lol. In a theater there is at least some expectation of quiet given that the reason for being there is to enjoy the movie.

LOL at these antisocial types playing in an MMO. I loathe zone chat, and I choose to ignore it because it's banal nonsense most of the time. That doesn't mean I should force them to stop it. I use the tools available to me to not have to deal with it.

Without resorting to language that will get me banned from this playpen, the problem is not my system or my connection. An entire environment packed floor to ceiling with giant effing balloons will peg anyone's gear.

This has absolutely nothing to do with petty annoyance. This is a programming flaw that allows players to actively interfere with each others' ability to play the game.

You have the option of turning zone chat off. I don't have the option of stopping the lag. As for upgrading my system, I was under the assumption that a twin quad-core 2.8GHz with 16GB RAM and at GTX 570 on a 50MB connection could quite easily handle STO. I'm going to assume that it's the servers that are struggling with all of those balloons.

Well physics objects are cpu heavy in this game.If this game would use nvidia physX amd users would see no balloons but nvidia users would have no problem with them :D

the game needs serious work on performance .

So you want us to access the bank and exchange on no public areas? There are none. What you're saying is you want to partake in an activity that interrupts the enjoyment of others and you don't care.

When I was brought up that was called selfish behaviour.

I said avoid public places where people are most likely to be celebrating. In other words avoid ESD and DS9.

    Whiny and lacking reading comprehension....

I nominate this troll thread dead and buried.

This isn't a, why do they have to ruin it for the majority thing. Why does the Minority whos complaining about the balloons have to ruin the majoritys fun. I hate how zone chat sounds, so I will go on the fourms to campaign getting EVERYONE chatbanned. I don't like STFs so I want them all removed, I don't like Crystaline entity, so it should be deleted. I don't like Energy Credits, so delete the currency, I don't have any EC, so it wont affect me so I don't care if u delete it all! I don't like the dkora, so remove it from the game. I don't like balloons so they should all be removed.

You see how STUPID this sounds?

This isn't a case where something is impeding your ability to play. This is like you acedentaly turned up the blue on ur Nivdia Graphics card, and now ur buying a new computr because its blue. No that doesn't make sense, just turn down the blue! Theres an option in the options that gets rid of the debris so you don't have to see it at all, see people spamming balloons, turn down that option! Your the vocal Minority contrary to what you think, the majority is the nonvocal people enjoying the balloons.

Edit list of places that are unpopulated with these options: New Romulus, Captain's Table, Fleet Starbases, Drazona, there are about 30 ESD instances, im sure 1 of them doesn't have spam, the academy, D'kora bridge, Freighter bridge, Sierra Starbase, Memory Alpha, Bajor, you have no excuses. I just listed 9 diferent places u can go to acess all the Features easily with no interfearance,

Bajor is the number 1, has everything, no one is ever there.

Tuffli and D'kora bridges, anywhere in space via the Azura comm code, starbases and embassies (OK, not quite other-people-free, but if you own the fleet you could implement a no-spam policy on the fleet holdings and kick anyone that breaks it).

Have not experienced such severe graphical lag in STO ever before.

I'm not sure if its the baloons, but I been in heavy instances with balloons yesterday and it caused no problems. So not sure what's wrong.
