Seriously, believe what you want. (I just knew someone was going to say that.) I did have an account, in fact I was in the open beta. But I stopped the account not because of the game but because I wanted to play another game and didn't want to pay for two subs. So I dropped STO figuring if Star Wars TOR wasn't any good I could always resub). I recently entered my retirement phase from the military and since I'm on "terminal leave" I have a lot of free time at the moment. Decided to try STO again. Doesn't seem worth the sub, at the moment.
Now if my telling you that is unpleasant to you for some reason, well, so be it. But you have no cause for calling me a liar, just because you don't like what I have to say.
It's not that someone didn't like your post. It's that right now people are trying to use this to either confirm that there is a problem or to try to help people solve it. He is irritated with you because you decided that instead of being helpful you wanted to vent your frustration. While I respect your opinion as I would respect anyone elses, there's no place for it in this thread atm. I also am sorry to say it but your comments might go further with customer service as all you are doing on the forums is deliberately trying to get people angry with cryptic and on your side in the matter. To be honest I don't really know or understand what you were trying to accomplish with this other than to make yourself feel better as you now have unscheduled free time on your hands. There is also the possibility that you're just trolling but as I know only what you told me about you and would like to give you the benefit of the doubt. Having the same problem as everyone else. Did the tracer and everything after 12 times out. Don't see a need to add to the copy and pastes. I'm in NY. Cellphone tether is not an option for me.
I read a couple Post from here that players used their Iphone Hotspot to give their computer a network to use to launch the game, update it, start it, get to the Character Launch screen, then switch back to their Home Network, I did this and it worked, I am currently in game.
So everyone, if it is possible try to find another network other then your home one that Craptic knows about and get the laucher to update, since Craptic is taking for ever.

I indeed agree. However this is the cost of having Lifetime Subscribers and F2P individuals, some can not understand what it is to put so much into a game.

reading through this some people are saying its a ISP thing, but that clearly cant be true, lots of people in the US are complaining of this problem, im in London UK and i cant get past the launcher cant patch screen so unless my provider (british telecommunications) has seriously expanded since i last checked the news a few hours ago, i kinda doubt its a isp or even a regionel customer thing and not a cryptic end problem.

Have you checked all leads are secure and the servers are switched on?
Have you tried rebooting?
Failing that....have you tried restoring to an earlier point?
No really though......it's NOT an ISP issue as I have a friend in another part of the country on a different provider and LOL.....guess what.....not working either.
I would send a ticket....but 8 days to reply to my last one has put me off doing that again....
If this takes much longer are we going to receive at the very least an xp boost or something to mak up for the subscription time lost?
Edit - and NO I haven't just made my first post on this forum.....but for some reason it says I joined in oct....LOL yeah....this is one of two accounts I have both from pre launch time and one was in beta.....before anyone pipes in.
ok, ty for the info guys. i used my droid smart phone to tether with a usb cord to my desk top tower. i had disconnected my cable for net. so my phone was able to start the launcher and patch it. so all i have to do is get into server, disconnect my phone and start my cable back up. wow never knew my smart phone would come in handy hahaha. verizon FTW!!!!

yup mosly cognet, but it is an issue PWE/ryptic could have pre-empted and/or mitigated significantely with a manual patch option. Its not like this is a unique occurence for STO or mmos in general during patching

For the rest of you, please take a close look at the tracert results.... you will notice that ALL of the results indicate a drop off somewhere around an address at *.atlas.cogentco.com
This address I am guessing the Cryptic's ISP they use to host the game. This combined with the reports that some others are able to get in just fine leads me to believe (and I am an expert) that the issue has little to do with Cryptic itself for once. So, please take a deep breath and relax, for Cryptic is likely just as frustrated at their incompetent ISP as we all are at Cryptic. Patience is a virtue!

Failing that....have you tried restoring to an earlier point?
No really though......it's NOT an ISP issue as I have a friend in another part of the country on a different provider and LOL.....guess what.....not working either.
I would send a ticket....but 8 days to reply to my last one has put me off doing that again....
If this takes much longer are we going to receive at the very least an xp boost or something to mak up for the subscription time lost?
