Just unlocked tier 1 and wow.

xsharpexxsharpex Member Posts: 0 Arc User
I'm speechless. I just unlocked tier 1 for both the Romulan and Omega reputation systems and boy did we get *@&#ed. for all those who said this system was a step in the right direction, i hope you guys eat your words.

first, according to the ui, picking your passive abilities are permanent and unchangeable. so be careful. there is a box that asks are you sure. but once that's locked in, youre locked in.

sooo, after 80 hours of project time, i had to run an additional 1 hour upgrade project to unlock tier 1. no biggie.

when i finally unlocked tier one, that's when all the fun began. no new reputation projects, the same 2000 and 800 ones. however, the other changes are what peaked my attention.

if you wanted to unlock a mk x omega armor, it is a 40 hour project that lets you requisition 1 piece. if you wanted to unlock a mk x deflector, it's a 40 hour project that lets you requestion 1 piece. WHAT THE *#^@? these projects take up one of your two project slots.

if you want to use the store, which was supposed to unlock in the sequential tiers, here's a shocker. you need to unlock each tier by running another 40 hour project. those tabs from the former omega store are each 40 hour projects, so if you wanted a split beam and a pulsewave weapon, you would have to unlock 2- 40 hour projects just for the ability to buy the weapons with dilithium.

each and every benefit described under each tier is a 40 hour project you need to unlock. INCLUDING THE ROMULAN CONSUMABLES! the one time use consumables are 40 hour projects as well.

so i ask you again, what the *#$&?

Thank you very much for all those who said this new reputation system would be a step in the right direction. I really hope you enjoy using this system for each and every one of your characters.

Want to outfit your boffs with full mk xii gear? that's 4 toons x 3 items each = 12 items total. 12 items x 40 hours = 480 hours. that's not including the 59 and change days you need to wait before even unlocking the tier 5 stuff, running projects back to back to back without missing a beat.

thank you very much. enjoy your new content.

attached are pictures. enjoy looking at what's waiting for you.

wow. just wow.

[edit]
Breakdown of what is offered in Tier 1 Omega and Romulan Rep
How much time will be spent waiting for gear to unlock
How much dil is needed for 1 set of mk xii gear

My prediction for time gated projects after Tier 1.

I will take this compared to farming STFs for 5 straight months, every single day and not getting a single piece of proto tech. I don't know about you.. maybe you got all your proto tech on your first runs, but I was way more frustrated with the previous system.

But OP, a question, do you need to unlock MkX to gain access to MkXII? As far as i know you can skip MkX if you don't want it.

If you need to unlock MkX to get to MkXII, then that's screwed up!

Xsharpex thank you for the numbers and specifics. I have been trying to pry this information for days. So the truth is its going to take days to get the gear after the unlock, and then more days to unlock the next rep that is just fing great.

I have one question a tribble tester before launch claimed that the gear also cost duty officers, can you confirm this?

    Thanks again for the numbers.

3 seems inadequate for your "wonderful?" new system. Here I thought we're all travelling faster than speed of light.

That's what I have been trying to explain to everyone..

You don't unlock anything, you unlock the permission for an unlock permission lmfao

Tier unlock. Unlock tier permission. Unlock individual items.

And you are going to love the sets themselves, after you do all that and get all 3 pieces, guess what, ANOTHER unlock to be allowed to edit the set

    /edit

ps. Also if you are dumb enough to actually start unlocking an item you will pass up on leveling projects - losing not 2 days for every item you go after, gg

For a new player they might want to get the Mk X ground gear first for the insta-modulate.

I agree 100% anything is better then the old luck system that was a screwed up mess from the beginning i have 8 toons and constantly running stfs on all of them and only got the MK XII set on 1 of them so at least this way we have a goal to work twords, sorry for those of you who where lucky and got them right away but it wasnt fair to us unlucky peeps

Scorpion fighters are 10,000 dil, 60 marks and 30 doff.

You could do that, or, simply go to the shipyard and get green fighters for 4,150 ECs

Remember kids, if you start any item projects you lose 2 days of leveling, don't be a sucker

    /edit

ps. about remodulation simply roam with 2 x shotgun so you can still be effective in combat using knockdown instead of dps or use 1 melee weapon depending on your kit/career.

    Not surprised at all.

In fact, it's about what I expected, though I figured the gear projects would only be 20 hours. 40 seems excessive for that.

It's not any different from the Starbase gear unlocks. Easier, in fact; starbase stuff requires you do a project for the requisitions then forces you to pay fleet credits for the gear you want. This is the same thing without the fleet store in the middle and for a single player instead of having to supply a fleet.

Then looked at the amount of grinding that will be involved with not only unlocking the other tiers...but each individual item you want to unlock.

    All I can say is...

    ummm....no.

I wouldn't put it past them to require a mk x set to upgrade to a mk xi set. they are already requiring a faction specific mk xii set in order to get your adapted maco/hg set. we won't be able to find out until we unlock tier 3.

p.s. i find it almost statistically impossible for you to have farmed ELITE stfs each day for 5 straight months and have yet to get a single proto tech drop ever. in two months, i have farmed enough tech to outfit two of my toons in both mk xii omega and khg sets, as well as at least 4 other mk xii sets for my doffs. that's not counting the other 2 toons i started with both their mk xii sets as well. and yes, that is running ELITE stfs every day, give or take.

http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=6469291&postcount=1 ---> here is my proof that tech drops were not impossible to get. where's yours? please note the date of when the toon was created and the date the post was made.

Everyone who says he farmed for 5 months without a drop is a flat out liar.

Maybe you remember yourself wanting the set for 5 months...

I made a character after I heard about the sets going in season 7 and I got everything including MK XII ground - plus I had to level it first.

I never had any problems on any of my characters, but say it WAS true, do you really think it's fair to kill everything on stf just so you can get your ground set?

Anyway I am pretty sure you can skip the MK XI, however you will need MK XII for the adapted version unlock.
I am a little annoyed at people like you, it's your fault we are in this mess in the first place

But it often backfires with people like me who look at it and say "I already have one job, I don't need another"

I was already waffling as to whether I was going to keep playing after recently returning to the game.

I said "no" to the whole "personal starbase" tier system before this was discovered. It is stupid to have to spend months just to re-earn something you previously had; insanely expensive, and majorly time consuming and generally more of a hassle then I could possibly want to deal with.

If I had an extra 40~ish hours a week to dedicate to something; I would spend that time at a second job to earn money, not spend that time grinding for virtual items and paying for the privelige of doing so.

On the plus side, now I get to laugh loudly and shake my head derisively while saying "No".

Thought they said, they removed the dil requirements to buy stuff in the omega store? or did they meant the dil requirements to acquire omega reputation?

From my understanding; just the Tier system no longer has Dil requirements; You still need to spend a fair stockpile of Dil to buy items once unlocked.

bare minimum amount of time to unlock the necessities per character:

    tier 0-5:
100,000 xp /2800 xp per project cycle = 31.7 project cycles
    31.7 project cycles * 40 hours per project cycle = 1428.6 hours

    mk xii pulsewave: 40 hours
mk xii split beam: 40 hours

    mk xii armor: 40 hours
    mk xii weapon: 40 hours
    mk xii psg: 40 hours

    mk xii deflector: 40 hours
    mk xii engine: 40 hours
    mk xii shield: 40 hours

    @ 2 projects per cycle, total time = 320 hours/2 = 160 hours

add 120 hours for the new set of assimilated console, cutting beam and omega torpedo
add 120 hours for the 2nd set
add 120 hours for the adapted set
add 160 hours for all the costume unlocks

    @ 2 projects per cycle, total time = 520 hours/2 = 260 hours

+5 hours, 1 for each tier unlock

total time: 1853.6 hours or 77.23 days per every brand spanking new toon.

that's just the waiting time too! insane, no?

the best part? after all this farming, what are you going to do with your new found sets after waiting all this time? more farming. LOL... oh the irony. all the while, picking up the slack of all of those around you who haven't completed the same grind. If you thought public queues and some private games were bad? Just wait until you have all these new, completely under geared guys trying to participate.

For those saying this new system is better, and they grinded the old system and got nothing your full of it. I ran the stfs prior to season 7 for 3 days on my max Fed and Klingon. I was able to get the borg sets with ease, and I was able to pick up 2 MKXII weapon items on my klingon. To top it off I was able to get my Klingon a MKXII Honor Guard shield for my ship. I am sure I got blessed on this but the fact is if you looked at the old vendors you could turn in 40 of the old item to get a new item without having the salvage . The old system was way better.
