Yep, but in here there are many who will defend the system no matter how bad it is.
Yes, I know. I luv STO, but I am not crazy about Season 7 at all. All the system apologists probably have IP addresses coming from China and/or California.
I have a Bug Ship, it is equipped with the Jem XI, and Mk XII polarons... it has Purple MK XII Neutronium and a whole host of other Mk XII consoles...
It will still get smashed to bits by one invisitorp.
Since Season 7 started in the Pugs and Private games I've played it's been with good players in good kit and we've still only made optional by a minute or two at best (save ISE). When before we could finish with 4 or 5 minutes to spare on CSE or KASE.
So no they won't be prepared and there will be problems.
It isn't, though. Even the longest reputation grinds in WoW only take about a month, while STO's reps take two months. WoW's reps usually don't even offer endgame items, so if grinding reps isn't your thing, you can just ignore them.
Wow reputation grinds require more work, i can meet all my mark requirements for STO by pleasing less than 30 minutes a day. It's a time gate more so than a grind
So I unlocked tier one today and got a good look at we as player are facing. The costs for the unlock of the gear is high. Given that fact I am thinking of picking up the MK X ground armor, and spending no more items on gear until the last tier. If the costs are going to be like this it would be best not to spend anything until MKXII. Otherwise it would be a waste of items. The amount of stfs I am going to have to run to afford this stuff is going to be a insane amount. I think the casuals are in for a shock when they get load of the cost. Most notably omaga marks and you get the most marks from elite stfs.

I think this is a legit complaint, they should lower costs on lower tier items. They should also use up an upgrade and not a project slot.
They should also have made the unlocks accesible by the "store" tab, so you felt you actually had something there.
On t1 they could have put consumables and fighters in there, so at least you felt you had something in your store.
I can't wait to get to t5 and still have that tab greyed out, plan to make it into a forum sig.
But yeah totally now we know you can't buy anything and level at the same time it totally invalidates doing anything but going afk for 3 months
I thought I had a chance to get MK XII gear sets finally. I guess not. Reading this just took all the wind out of my sails. I'll just stay underpowered with my toons and play just for the ACTUAL story content and Foundry missions.
I dont understand you Cryptic/PWE. Crushing our Star Trek souls with eternal grind is not the way to make a profit from us. Enjoy that $50 I just gave you for my Vesta 3 pack. You wont be seeing more from me for a looooooong time, if ever.

have no fear. apparently there might be some change in the wind. i wouldn't mind settling for the compromise of shorter project times for all (reputation, equipment requisition, and store unlocks) but higher omega marks and expertise costs per project. that compromise would certainly get my stamp of approval.
other compromise: short time and resource unlock, much heavier requisition requirements and costs.
Make item projects an upgrade project so it doesn't block leveling.
Make items worth getting; forget 30 k dil for a 4150 EC green item.
Make security team a permanent item ofc balance it for it in price, cooldown and whatever.
Let people convert omega marks for dil. from tier 1, with a low timer, so you have a reason to play stf and can interact with the rep regularly instead of 1 time every 2 days.
Kill timers on item projects.
Let people see what they are getting, why can't I read the stats off items like I can everywhere else in the game?
Hoover over item = description, plus I'd really like to see what the item looks before I commit to anything.
I guess y'all assumed that wasn't necessary since we already know what the old gear is lmao
Items you can buy once you reach the tier should be placed under the store tab, not under projects.
Consumables, fighters etc (I realize other items have 2 more unlocks to go after you reach the tier and then unlock the permission).
I probably forgot something too, I will get back to you
/edit
Oh yeah you could even consider letting people work on their exp when turning in omega marks or add a "free project" like the embassy one - main idea being you don't feel stuck in the mud for 2 days with zero to do
I, myself, am still puzzled about why the previous stuff they converted to marks is locked in a box until tier 3. For those of us who maxed XI gear but weren't lucky enough to get to the XII stuff, this system actively penalizes us.
Instead of getting any credit whatsoever for all the grinding we did up to this point, we are told we now have to do it all over again, but with additional expenses.
As a Lifer, at least I'm not paying monthly for this garbage. I'm sure the people who like the system have their reasons for doing so, but what irritates me the most is the defenders toss out every logical argument against the system as 'whining'.
I am on my way to completing Tier 1 of Omega reputation. Then I read this thread and the posts in it.
Frankly, I am rather disappointed at the amount of time and resources players have to put in just to get some good gear. Not to mention that if you are already in a fleet, projects for both Fleet Bases and your personal Reputation will take extra long if you split up resources. So its either you devote everything to the Fleet Base or your Reputation.
Perhaps I will just stop playing Star Trek Online for awhile and see if Cryptic will make major adjustments to the Reputation system. Or I can just forgo the Reputation system and contribute to the Fleet Base all the way.
During Season 6 - Logged time - almost every day for 4 to 5hrs, on occasion spent anywhere between $30 to $75 dollars a month. I ran STF for enjoyment and farming D - Several Mk XII Proto for several of my toons.
Come Season 7 & the introduction of the New Rep System - once or twice a week for 30minutes apiece - so far spent $10 dollars on the Steam Pack for the Steamrunner, tried the new system, looked at it, too much of a ingame cost for me to invest in. - Mk XII setswere once free - Now they will cost and arm & a leg with excessive waiting period per piece.
I never looked back at the STFs again -
You all understand where I am coming from.
Only ones that will enjoy this are those that are new to STO and new to the system.
Currently playing Terra Online & GW2
1/2hr STO time on Sat & on Mondays - Fleet projects down the drain - I have no more time to waste on STO.
i cryed agian today all the fun gone replaced buy nothing but grind sign on and decide wich grind to do dilith grind omaga grind new romulan grind. used to be fun to do the stf what drop will i get? somthing for fleet bank? item me or a friend could realy use?? somthing to sell and get ec or dilith for? or the joy and pride of the tech drop and rushing to turn in and get the shiney new pice to complet my set??? now its just grind and wait days to see what i can spend my dwindleing suply of dilith on!!!!! in the words of Adam Sandler " whooopie f-ing dooo " I sold a ring that i dont wear but still had great sentimental value to me for lifetime membership. I feel so riped off cheated. This season jsut keeps getting worse not better. ive been known to play 15 or 20 hours a day on weekend but now after a couple hrs im so bored and depressed i leave and dont comeback till the next day. how could any sane person call this TRIBBLE an impovement????
I will never ever spend another dime of real world money on this game ever ever ever ever.
I'm also in the same boat that I don't want to monetarily fund STO any longer. I don't feel like giving my real money to them, like I use to, with the current level of gameplay and enjoyment. I am spending less time in the game post-S7, instead of more time, so it makes sense to also spend less money, which for me, is going to be no money. My money is important, I watch where each dime goes, in the past I could justify some of it going to STO, there was a return on investment, but I can't anymore /shrug
Let me put it this way, normally in the past, I'd have the "new ship" by now (i.e. the Vesta). But now, I'm just going to wait till my free Zen I get every month adds up on its own to get the bundle, it'll take 9 months currently, for it to add up to 5,000 Zen for the full bundle (unless there's a sale), but that's exactly what I'm going to do, wait, and not spend a dime on Zen.
I have to chime in here and agree with the above posts.
Season 6 made me want to spend money, Became an LTS after playing the game for under two months and spent a few hundred pounds in the time period.
As of Season 7, it's not so much I've boycotted spending, it's simply that the game is no longer compelling or enjoyable enough to coax me into spending, as it did before.
The lack of time-gating is one of the main reasons I used to enjoy STO; they put in time-gates on not only a per-account basis, but a PER-CHARACTER basis.
I went back to EVE; if I want to deal with time-gates, at least that game doesn't rip you off in the process. I'll be back around Season 8, to see if things have improved.
Yes, I know. I luv STO, but I am not crazy about Season 7 at all. All the system apologists probably have IP addresses coming from China and/or California.
More content, less PWE grind please.

Hmmm, I just saw the costs for the Mk XII gear, .... thankfully my toons have most of what they need before Season 7 released.
I think it is time to cancel my Gold membership, I can't support this PWE Asian Grind model.
My money is going to sideline and will stay there until Stahl and Cryptic can get a handle on this. I will still play STO, but my money will not participate. I cannot reward this MMO model.
I just talked with a kid in-game who said he started the wrong project accidently.
Quite unlucky but I also got to thinking what if you are a person that cannot or will not play elites and you accidently start the borg mark conversion? Eternally screwed?
I agree with all opinions. The reputation system is bad as is. But it can also be good.
The pro is that you dont need to be lucky and get that rare salvage you need.
The con is that it takes FAR TOO LONG 40 hours come on. I can do other things while waiting but I want new gear now not the next day and a half. If they was to reduce the time for projects and the cost of them most people will be happy, others not so much. I started playing the game from F2P so the most money I've spent is buying a key to unlock a box and to get it so my ship says NX not NCC. so I cant account for that side of things.
I just hope the devs are looking at the forums and re-evaluating the reputation system to better suite average players.

Pretty much yes, there is no cooldown for removing accidental project starts. The very bane of the ENTIRE SYSTEM!!
I did the exact same thing, although luckily I run elites quite regularly and had the spare bnp's.
Still not worth 1000 dilith for 5 bnp's, but that's another topic....
The technical term if you do accidentally choose the wrong project = screwed
All I have to say is FAIL!!!!! Sorry you need to make the game fun to play. Ok maybe most like to play an asian farm game. I just don't get this move. Wait yes I do. Its all about money. Not the fans of Star Trek. I just feel like you just want to R *A*P*E* us all. I miss the old Star Trek Online. Episodes that where fun to play. And gear that was fun to obtain once you finish working hard with your fleet. This is a sad day. Man I even have to space the word I want to say thats messed up.
Very well said...this game should be called "STO: Farming the next frontier"...:D
I have to agree, there is really nothing for me before Tier 5 that I want/need. So I feel like all those months of STF are gone. And I think more and more people will be going for ISE or KAGE just to get the easy marks and ignore the others.
Also the passive's and not being allowed to respect, or starting the wrong project is a crock. Maybe do a penalty for choosing the wrong project. Or maybe a project to change the trait. It should not be permanent.

You are; you need to pay attention to the projects. Fell into the exact same thing and lost 5 BNP for 1k dilithium (which I really didn't need). It was an eye-opener of a lesson.
From now on, I'm taking my time reading the fine print on the projects before choosing Select. Just be mindful.

Same reason the rep system cannot be account wide, naturally they want you playing as many stfs as possible.
For me it's to the point that I would gladly give away my MK XII drops to everyone if we could have our game back.

I'm sorry but my market research says people L-O-V-E waiting.
