pestf is only going to get worse, especially with what's happened. undergeared and underprepared is going to be the new status quo. i've got enough people on my friends list and via fleet to keep my powered stfs going for a good while. i hate to be that guy, but most of the people that's going to be flooding that channel are the sames ones here supporting the system. they can battle through this system with people like themselves. they dug their respective holes, let them pew pew in it with their blue mk xi weapons and green consoles.

Yep... STF's just don't give the kind of thrill they used to!

Not calling anyone a liar......... But this ^^^^^

Most of my Mark 12 gear comes from failed optionals, and I outfited my Main Captain with full mark 12 Omega/MACO sets with 2 sets of Mark 12 anti-borg weapons, and 3 different torps in about a month. I waited until last minute to rush and get my Eng cap/KDF cap Mark 11 gear took about a 2 weeks. I have the worst luck in MMO's + I am lazy when it comes to endgame. What would have taken me a month tops to finish will now take 3 times longer and cost much more.

The previous system droprate wasn't even bad compared to other MMO's (look up Final Fantasy 11 Salvage armor pre-update 0.03% droprate on needed components says "hi")

Sorry but anyone who thinks this rep system is in place to help them is misguided, naive, or silly (no offense but cryptic likes those kind of players).

    THIS.

I agree too. I was way more rewarded with the old system and i play 12 characters mind you. 9 of them have full Mk XI gear and 2 others have MK XII.

Now i see no incentive to do any STF. Marks and some Dil? Not good enough! I need excitement and RANDOM! I love RANDOM. Keeps things exciting and random you know?

What is the problem some players have with random? they prefer watching a slow time bar going up really? I just dont get it...

It's decent, but it wasn't ready for release. And it's SOE, you must have a short memory or be very young to open that can of worms.

Time for a STO Season 7 Update

Private Queues are going to remain off for another week so that we can get the cool down timers for the missions to be in synch with the cool down timers in the public queues. Once that is confirmed, we'll turn the private queues back on.

The Reputation System, including the STFs are getting some major changes over the next two weeks. Here is a rundown of what is going to happen over the next several Holodeck updates.

    • Omega Conversion Crates can be opened immediately. You will no longer need to achieve T3 in Omega Fleet to open these.
    • Reputation XP Project timers are dropping from 40 hours to 20 hours across all Tiers. If you have a project in progress, it will not change, but any new projects after the update will be adjusted. We are also looking into adding the ability to drop a project.
    • All XP Reputation Projects (projects that reward progress towards your next Tier) will now grant 240 Dilithium (on average) upon completion. If you complete 4 XP Rep Projects a day, you should earn about 960 Dilithium per day from it. These are in addition to the Marks to Dilithium conversion Projects. Once you've completed a Reputation System, these XP Projects will go away, but the Marks to Dilithium conversion projects will remain.
    • Reputation Projects that convert Marks to Dilithium are being moved from unlocking at T5 to being available immediately. This allows you to convert Omega Marks and Romulan Marks to Dilithium similar to how you could trade STF items for Dilithium previously.
    • Loot drops are getting added to STF mobs as well as to bosses.
    • End of STF Loot Rolls are returning. There will once again be a chance to earn special rewards at the end of STFs or Romulan Mark events. These special rewards will be Bonus marks, BNPs, or other items needed for Reputation rewards.
    • Reputation Advancement Projects (the ones that unlock each tier) are having their timers reduced from 1 hour to 15 mins. and we are removing Dilithium inputs from these Tier Up projects.
    • The amount of commodities needed for Romulan Reputation projects is being reduced due to the lack of drops on New Romulus. We will be adding more drops to New Romulus in the future either through enemy kills or daily missions.
    • All Reputation Projects are being changed so that you need to claim the reward upon completion. This puts it in line with how Duty Officer assignments work so you can see the rewards you are getting from each project.

We expect all of the above changes to be live before December. A few will be live by tomorrow, with the rest live around Nov 29th.

Thank you all for your input over the past couple days. Together, we were able to voice our collective opinion to evoke change. A very hearty congratulations to us all. Most of what we asked for has been granted in one way or another and then some. While this will not satisfy all of us, this is definitely a huge step in returning to normalcy. Again, congratulations to you all. Take pride in your accomplishment and happy howlidays.

Perhaps there was too large of a drop in players in-game after all...

It sure seems that way to me.

Nope - he snipped the part about there being tons more players and higher concurrency thus far - we've had a big increase in the number of people playing much like we saw with Season 6 release.

These changes are about balancing the economy while removing some exploits and adding more fun back into the STFs. Yes the feedback had a lot to do with it, but we stand behind many of the changes that were made in this season. The additions will simply put it back on track to where most everyone can enjoy their particular play style and still have something to work towards.

Sorry. I don't find unneeded added grind "fun". So where's the "fun" for non-STF's?

It makes me worried that you all thought these things were ok in the first place.

The direction you are taking the game is not the direction the players want. There are two paths, and you and the devs path is diverging from the game's player base path. Thus, conflict ensues. Your goals, are not our goals, your wants and desires for this game, are not ours. I continue to see this crack in the void continue to grow until some fundamental thought processes over there at Cryptic/PWE are changed.

Very true and valid points, but at the same time, we as a community probably need to do a better job at communicating what we want and are willing to throw money at.

I actually think the community did a good job of throwing out a lot mature and constructive feedback about changes with season 7. In turn, I am getting the impression that the devs are getting a better realization of what it is that we want. Obviously, things there's still a lot more work that needs to be done(I'm curious how many people are even interacting with the Personal Officers at all now - specifically the primary one in the academies), but there are at least signs of improvement.

On a semi-related note, I have been curious if you've had any plans to make impression/retrospective videos about seasons on your channel. It may not be 'gameplay', but I would probably enjoy a video about your opinions on season 6, for example - things you liked and didn't like. I imagine that sort of thing would be useful for the Devs as well.

It's good that mistakes have been acknowledged, there was once a vibrant STF community, this update ended it. I hope these changes will bring back the fun and community. As has been previously mentioned if you diverge too far what the customer wants from the product and try to foister what you want the product to be on the customer it almost always ends up being bad for business.

Of course as you know the success of a season should be judged at the end of the season not the start, it's whom you retain that counts. As you can see from the feedback here many were unhappy with the implementation of the changes. Lets see if the proposed changes have the desired effect.

I am also at a loss with the logic that dispersing dilthium across more events and reducing or removing it from some events whilst creating new sinks in dilthium would somehow get more people to refine more dilithium per day. I think you know already by the drop in Zen value that your changes to this economy would not increase the supply of refined dilithium to the exchange.

It seems especially illogical when considering that the average player is more casual and has less time yet he must now do several missions to recieve the same Dilithium he did for one. This does not benefit casual players dilithium refinement rates.
Cryptic really needs to find that middle ground.

Changing FA rewards from DL to FM? Tsk, they really should mix them to a dual reward like the Azure Nebula. Like Fleet Events rewarding in Fleet Marks and Dilithum, while Fleet Actions are more Dilithum than Fleet Marks. STFs reward in Omega, Fleet, and Dilithum.

That way they are combining rewards so people don't feel pressured to play single content and earn multiple projects at the same time, thus not suffering from grind exhaustion.

Personally, I am quite happy that the Stahl and the devs over at Cryptic have listened to the players and are now making enhancements to the game. Especially the Reputation system.

I am quite looking forward to trying out the Reputation system once all the enhancements are completed on the 29th of November. Until then, I will probably not touch the Reputation system.

Agreed, it will take a long time for Cryptic/PWE to earn the playerbase trust back.

It really doesn't help when the devs are hell bent on robbing us blind every time they "update" a core endgame system.

Don't get me wrong, the devs are making headway with the recent S7 update, but every week the devs seem to take one step forwards and two steps back...

Season 7 is doing great. Lots of new players are logging in. Plenty of returning players are coming back to check out the new update. Concurrency is up across the board and generally speaking the team is very proud of the work that went into this Season and we are thrilled by all of the wonderful comments about New Romulus and the new Events. You can expect more large zones like this in future Seasons. - dstahl

Not to play the Devil's Advocate here, but is it not normal for a boost in the playberbase upon a Season release, including the mentioning of veteran players returning - Yet, many return out of curiousity as to how the game is doing or improving, or NOT improving.

I read what dastahl has written, and I have to say that some of the things mentioned regarding the upcoming changes is to my liking - Yet there still remain plenty more that is to be desired, S7 continues to refrain me in commiting the way I use to. dastahl & the CRYPTIC team definition of fun is dilusional at best.

I agree with some recent upcoming changes and welcome them, yet Season 7 is not what I had hoped it would be. However; like many here I have learned to take his words as a grain of salt, I do not believe a single word utter - simply because any head of CRYPTIC is liken unto a doubleminded man.

Say that again when there's something you want in the Rom reputation and you've got zero Rom marks (because of the pathetic rewards) and you need 800 of them to unlock Mk XII DHCs and Turrets (2 x 150 Rom Mark unlocks) and 500 for a torpedo launcher.

I never want to scan another radiation sample ever again - hell, I barely want to set foot on New Romulus ever again.

254 runs of Elite STFs got me everything at least twice - and damn, I made enough dilithium to refine for a year. The new system is horrible.

254 runs of Elite STFs didn't do that for me. Me, I'd rather not gamble.

I AM a little annoyed at the narrow options for getting MK XII weapons, though.

The system is bad, because it was poorly thought out and implemented poorly. As an 'alternative' to running STF's I could see that but as a replacement? No. It was in place for at least an entire Season, so you saw fit to leave it in place that long even though it was breaking the game somehow? First take DIL away, and make more things cost DIL. Players scream at you, return DIL and 'some' drops to STF's.

Wait, I have an idea....let's return Investigate Reports, make them doable every 30mins, give 960DIL and 50 FMarks! This will make players happy and be quiet for awhile because we hate getting yelled at for sucking so bad! Never mind the fact it goes against everything we've said and done since S7 was launched! Woo-hoo!

Dudes, all this started over TRIBBLE with the STF's and adding Rep systems with counters everywhere telling you to 'hurry up and wait'. I, for one, was very happy with the drop system in place when I came back to the game during S7 and found STF's to be my favorite thing. I got a few tech pieces, but didn't complete any MACO/Omega sets. I loved the excitement and randomness of the drops, I saw quite a few times my last Tech piece I needed drop, but got out-rolled which is part of the game IMO, you get a chance and sometimes you get it sometimes not. There's games out there you could play your whole life and not get a drop of something in particular....it's just the way it is. I can see adding Rep system as an ALTERNATIVE to STF grinding for drops, but replacing it completely? Weak, and lame, and boring especially for those of us who knew the old system and played it at length.

It's like giving your child a great toy for Xmas then taking it away a week later telling them 'We've got this new Rep system for you! We'll put this toy in a black box you can't see into, but we swear it's in there, others too! Only XXXhours more of pointless boring grindy nonsense and a big clock taunting you with a countdown until you EARN the toy back we gave you already after you unlock pictures of it. Fun right?!?'

Yes, it's an old argument. I'll never get tired of yelling at Cryptic for their shortcomings....what else can we do really other than not give them more money?

If you are in a fleet and have a Tier 2 Industrial Fabricator, then it will allow you to purchase Engineering and Operations Duty Officers for 750 Fleet Credits. Otherwise, you are stuck with the exchange.
