It's tracing the hops from his end of the Interwebz to Cryptic/PWE's end. It's saying the connection stops entirely at THEIR doorstep, and the connection is perfectly fine. It's their servers being bad.

Thank you kind sir! How long do these issues normally last? I am able to finally play a game with my brother this week. We do not have that kind of opportunity often.

    Thanks rodentmaster. :)

bsranger, I've experienced (connection) problems before and they normally didn't last very long. Hard to say how long it'll take them to fix the issue but I would think they do whatever they can to help us get back in the captain's chair.

Heh. I was about to say it seems like some one might have fatfingered and brought down the wrong patch server.

That said if they take this opportunity to preload season7 I wont complain.

    Much.

I wish we could sign up for a twitter message saying when they fix the problem. This way I can leave to do some house work or something else not near as productive as STO, and get informed when they figure out how to get the game back up again.

Yeah it would be nice to get an update - all they have to say is yes we are working on it and guess an ETA.

When I patch our servers at work I can usually do in a half hour. I always tell them 3 hours so when I allow everyone to get back on after an hour I look like a networking god ...lol

Not likely, having a Gold membership gives me the exact same problem. I wish I hadn't canceled it last time this happened, because it would feel a lot better to be able to cancel it again.

    lol XD

hmm, too short. I'll just use the rest of this space to post famous Spaceballs quotes :D

Yogurt: Merchandising, merchandising, where the real money from the movie is made. Spaceballs-the T-shirt, Spaceballs-the Coloring Book, Spaceballs-the Lunch box, Spaceballs-the Breakfast Cereal, Spaceballs-the Flame Thrower.
    [turns it on]
Dink, Dink, Dink, Dink, Dink, Dink: Ooooh!
Yogurt: [reacts to dinks] The kids love this one.
[a dink hands him a doll that looks likes Yogurt]
Yogurt: And last but not least, Spaceballs the doll, me.
    [pulls string]
Doll: May the schwartz be with you!
    Yogurt: [kisses the doll] Adorable.

Dark Helmet: I bet she gives great helmet.

    [upon going into "ludicrous speed"]
Dark Helmet: My brains are going into my fee

Ape #1: [as the Spaceballs and what is left of Mega Maid land on the Planet of the Apes] Dear me. What are these things coming out of her nose?
Dark Helmet: [One of the apes takes his binoculars out and sees Colonel Sandurz, Dark Helmet, and President Skroob coming out of Mega Maid's nose] Hey, hey, hey. Watch my Helmet.
    Ape #2: Spaceballs.
Ape #1: Oh, ****. There goes the planet.

Dark Helmet: WHAT? You went over my helmet?

[Lord Helmet is playing with his dolls in his quarters when Col Sandurz bursts in]
    Colonel Sandurz: Lord Helmet!
    Dark Helmet: WHAT?
[Helmet gathers up his dolls in the blink of an eye]
Colonel Sandurz: You're needed on the bridge sir!
Dark Helmet: Knock on my door! Knock next time!
    Colonel Sandurz: Yes, sir!
Dark Helmet: Did you see anything?
Colonel Sandurz: No, sir! I didn't see you playing with your dolls again.
    Dark Helmet: GOOD!
Colonel Sandurz: [Sandurz slams the door]

    Also... BAMA :D

Strange problem (and annoying it is).

Anyone care to compare tracerts for the problem?

I get the following: (early hops cut out for personal privacy reasons)

    6 17 ms 15 ms 20 ms pos-0-6-0-0-pe01.1950stemmons.tx.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.85.34]
    7 26 ms 15 ms 15 ms as174.1950stemmons.tx.ibone.comcast.net [173.167.56.166]
    8 17 ms 15 ms 15 ms te0-0-0-4.ccr21.dfw01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.6.57]
    9 26 ms 27 ms 27 ms te0-2-0-3.ccr21.mci01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.5.170]
    10 44 ms 45 ms 45 ms te0-5-0-4.ccr21.ord01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.45.146]
    11 73 ms 66 ms 68 ms te0-2-0-2.ccr22.bos01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.43.194]
    12 58 ms 57 ms 59 ms te4-2.ccr01.bos06.atlas.cogentco.com [66.28.4.254]
    13 * * * Request timed out.

    <The remainder fail>

What I'm seeing implies that the problem is with Cogent Communications, who are probably the ISP for STO. What do other people see in route traces?

UPDATE: A friend who can connect traced it for me and got:
    7 42 ms 41 ms 43 ms ggr3.dlstx.ip.att.net [12.122.138.17]
    8 248 ms 221 ms 218 ms 192.205.36.182
    9 45 ms 41 ms 41 ms te0-0-0-4.ccr22.dfw01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54
    .6.53]
    10 52 ms 51 ms 52 ms te0-4-0-7.mpd22.mci01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54
    .80.106]
    11 47 ms 46 ms 45 ms te0-1-0-2.mpd22.ord01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54
    .3.201]
    12 68 ms 68 ms 67 ms te0-0-0-2.ccr21.bos01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54
    .43.186]
    13 77 ms 76 ms 76 ms te3-4.ccr01.bos06.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.46.
    134]
    14 75 ms 72 ms 72 ms 38.111.40.114
    15 68 ms 68 ms 67 ms www.playstartrekonline.fr [208.95.185.44]

So, looking at the hop that he can make that I can't, it's something to do with: http://whois.domaintools.com/38.111.40.114 and te3-4.ccr01.bos06.atlas.cogentco.com.

Think someone messed up a routing table at cryptic? Or is it just some of us being filtered for some strange reason?
