So this problem still exists for me ...is there still no fix for this ?? I have not played for almost 2 months , is this vpn thing really the only option ?

Try this, it seems to work just fine for STO.

Check this out.
Step 1:
Google Hotspotshield
Step 2:
Install the free VPN
Step 3:
Run the VPN software and connect. Once connected you are routing traffic through the VPN. You can verify by checking your external IP by Googleing "What's my IP"
Step 4:
Lauch the STO launcher. It should start updating and patching.
Step 5:
Once the patch is complete, turn off the VPN connection. Once disconnected, you should be on your normal internet. You can verify by checking your external IP by Googleing "What's my IP" - it should be different than your VPN IP address.
Step 6:
Press the PLAY button.
Just FYI- after you patch, you will STILL be unable to run the BLR launcher without first launching the VPN service. Just make sure you shut it off after the launcher is launched or you will be playing the game through the VPN! This will lag you really bad in game... Ohh, and for those who think I can just launch STO from the STO.exe after a patch, it will not work for me without first launching the launcher and pressing play...
It took me weeks to get this working. I hope I help a few people out!!!
Thanks this helped me when I encountered this issue (again). I found that I did not have any adverse latency issues when playing while using the vpn (which is very seamless and hassle free).
Its annoying and disappointing that I need to use this at all for the launcher and game to function correctly now.
Had the same problem since the November 1st patch. VPN for the win. Wrapped up the problem right nicely. Thank you very much.

I stand corrected. Hours later and the game still can't patch files. I may have to actually play through VPN. Sad.
Cryptic if you guys are listening, please PLEASE I'm begging make each update for the launcher available for manual download from the main site, so if the autoupdate fails we can do it ourselves.

I've been having this problem >.< I really don't want to connect through a VPN when I live in the damn US...vpns are used to connect to games that aren't in your region...so I really hope they fix this...because it's sad...that this has been happening since 8/12...
I would love to be able to play this game again too but even with the VPN I get the "unable to connect to patch server" issue.
Hopefully support can get us some answers on this sometime soon. Sucks being a lifetime sub and suddenly unable to play because the launcher refuses to connect to the server. when others can obviously play still.
not too bad atm....its been a while since i tried to play due to a move but i have been around off and one since game launch so I have played more than enough to make the money spent worth it.
Having a similar problem VPN solution isn't working assuming I am doing it right. This is absurd, servers don't function correctly most of the time yet Cryptic/PWE wants us to pay for zen etc. Unbelievable!
Yeah i just purchased 2000 zen from c store, and i wanted to buy consumables for my starship very exciited to log on but... when i log on i get this error saying my connection timed out check your internet connection??? but clearly im connected to internet.. anyways... i hope they fix this issue fast. :mad:
I have been on and off the game all day today and noticed a few problems with buying zen from the store earlier (the website took a long time to load).
When I was just about to start the daily officer reports foundry missions the real trouble started and the launcher stopped working.
I got kicked by the server after about 2-3 minutes, saying that there was a problem with dynamic patching. I managed to get back in, tried again and the same thing happened. So I thought restarting the game might help. It didn't.
I then cleared all temp files, restarted my laptop, checked my firewall, antivirus software and even tried running as administrator. (I am administrator but I know some games will still require this, depending on their system and/or settings so who knows.)
I can access all websites just fine except www.*startrekonline.*com. A malware/virus-scan came back negative.
I also tried replacing the launcher file as mentioned here: http://techsupport.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=4341 but it still won't work. I have noticed that my game files are in C:\Users\Public\Games and not C:\Program Files\Cryptic Studios. I didn't change it when I installed the game but could that be a problem?
Please let me know what else I can try to get back into the game.

Great job cryptic... Same deal guys as soon as i hit ENGAGE nothin... now it wont even load the login screen... Still no fix yet huh? There goes hours of my life.... Thanx cryptic....

Alright. Seriously, they've apparently been having this problem for MONTHS and have no resolution? What's going on, Cryptic? Customer service is not looking to be a strong point right now. Plus, their little blurb on their website isn't showing anymore...is that because they think they've fixed it?
The problem is not my internet connection. I've reset the computer, the router, altered settings, etc. So...waiting on you for the fix, Cryptic.
