Last dev post in this thread was July 20, almost a week ago now. It contained very little other than "We're working on it."
So now with another maintenance window gone by with no news other than a fix for something we can't access anyway, I think we're justified in asking WHAT IS GOING ON?!?
Why does it have to be so secret? Why can't they just say: here is specifically what the trouble is, and this is specifically what we're doing about it. I'd feel better about it still being down if they were to give us some real info.
While I agree that we should get an update, giving anyone specifics on an internal system is generally a really bad idea. That sort of specific information can be used quite maliciously.
You'd think that, with how close the devs have been watching this thread, they would know that we're eager to hear something, anything, concerning an update for what's going on, but they haven't said anything...for whatever reason. (though I'm hoping we'll get some kind of update from Brandon or another dev before the end of the week since, as I said before, the last update was the 20th)
Granted, they eventually enabled the Foundry again for mission searching, but the one thing they hadn't realized yet is that, for whatever reason, that's malfunctioned.

Completely agree... said almost as much in my last post too ( post 135 )
I think the devs are over their head as always. The foundry editor probably be back up in a few years. oops i mean a week or so. but yea i agree with all of you, i want to know what the progress is. we are customers and need to know if the editing end of foundry will be back up. im already getting bored with season 6 trying to collect fleet marks ect.. I've worked in places that reguired to give an update to our customers if something went wrong or needed to give them a heads up how long it will take to get the product to them. If i didn't do that. well i would be fired. Im sure everyone knows that by now.

I hope they are so buried and busy in the code that they are too busy to spend time reading forums.
Even if they give an update all they can say is "We're trying to fix the bug we should have found and fixed on tribble and will get it up as soon as possible"
Not really. In case you didn't pay attention, THEY APPLIED THE ENTIRE SEASON 6 UPDATE TO TRIBBLE!
This bug didn't surface at that time. Do you know why? I do. Holodeck has at least 100 times as many foundry missions. It also has larger more complex foundry missions. The bug, in case you didn't know, only comes up in the more complex misisons.

Which is why they should have copied every single spotlight mission and a random selection of others to tribble when S6 was in testing.
Even if they give an update all they can say is "We're trying to fix the bug we found and will get it up as soon as possible"
See that's what they said last week, and that tells me nothing. "Frustratingly non-specific" was the term I used at the time. I want to know more. I'm not asking them to post their code for anyone to copy, but I want to know what exactly is the bug that's holding everything up and what they're doing to fix it.
And you know, I want to know if there's anything I can do to help. Can I hop in and playtest a mission or something? Can I send cookies to the Foundry devs? Can I make them dinner? I make a mean stir fry.
I'd also really appreciate a more specific update here? If we realize that there is a big problem or a number of specific unforeseen consequences, then:
a. We won't be so impatient, given that we keeping think "maybe tomorrow..."
b. We'll understand what will be required of us, regarding our missions and repairing them.
We found several bugs in the code that specifically handles automated re-publishing of already published projects after a software update. We did import many projects from holodeck into various test environments before launching season 6, but those all used the normal publishing code path, which is the same as when a Foundry author hits the "Publish" button, but somewhat different from the automated re-publish.
We have fixes for those bugs that are currently in QA, and we will get them live as soon as we can. At that point we will re-publish all projects again and then re-evaluate whether it is safe to turn playing of Foundry content back on. When we re-enable playing of Foundry content, the ability for players to post reviews will be disabled. We will turn reviewing back on once we are confident that authors won't be saddled with bad reviews due to Foundry bugs.
Once we are confident that all major re-publishing issues have been dealt with, we will re-enable Foundry editing.
Suppose it begs the question though, why did you test things with the regular publish and not the auto-republish?
This. Testing under significantly different conditions than the final product seems kind of off to me.
Also, would it really be that hard on Foundry authors to republish their own missions if theirs is one of the ones that can't auto-upload?

Thank you very very much for the update, rehpic! I don't want to speak for everyone else, but it's very helpful in making me feel more at ease about the wait if I know exactly what you're doing...which you've explained, so, again, thank you!

Why in the WORLD would you use a different publishing procedure when testing on tribble than you knew you would be using on live? That is incredibly sloppy testing.
I've seen people saying in other threads that the foundry is back up for us players but not for authors etc. But as a player I still can't access any missions. Nothing shows up in the search. Is it just me or is the foundry as a whole still down?

It's not you. As a whole, the Foundry is still down, but they're hoping, with this new patch that's supposed to go live tonight (in the PDT timezone) that we'll be able to play other missions that had already been tested and re-published.
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone

I read it as this is a new and improved auto-publish for the new and improved Foundry. As in, they couldn't test it unless they imported Holodeck Foundry missions into Tribble (which they may have done). Without really being on the Foundry development team, it is hard to say what they tested and what they didn't. It is possible that they tested this in a limited fashion. But I wouldn't expect them to test it in a large scale environment because then that would have pushed back Season 6 for probably another month or so while they figured the Foundry deal out. Not to mention, they'd probably have to take the Holodeck Foundry offline while they transfered any missions over to Tribble Foundry.
What a bunch of nonsense. Cryptic really needs to figure out how to properly test their systems before a new season so this kind of TRIBBLE doesnt keep happening.

The only way to do that is to have a complete copy of Holodeck running somewhere that they can test on. They probably don't have the spare server space or blades to run another version of Holodeck. I know people say this all the time, but after having worked in the IT field, it is near impossible to test anything on a production server and you will are pretty much guaranteed to have bugs and errors.

Foundry Mission Database
Check out my Foundry missions:
Standalone - The Great Escape - The Galaxy's Fair - Purity I: Of Denial - Return to Oblivion
Untitled Series - Duritanium Man - The Improbable Bulk - Commander Rihan
Thats what they should be saying.
Even if it was just that, to me, that would be fine...just some kind of update, no matter how short.

I have possible good news.
I read that the server's going down tonight at midnight PDT to apply a new patch.
One fix is the following:
Resolved several issues with Foundry republishing.
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20120727T00&p1=137&ah=3 = This'll give you an idea of when it'll start in your time zone and when it's expected to finish (they said it'd take about 3 hours).
More patch notes can be found here: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=329301
Again, my deepest apologies for getting everyone's hopes up. That was absolutely positively not my intention.
Four steps in under a day? I wouldn't plan on it.

I think if that were the re-activation of the Foundry, I think rehpic would have mentioned it in his post. Still, good to know.
