Or, if you put your brain in gear for a moment, you could have put those packs up on the exchange for EC, let someone else take the gamble, and then bought the Tuffli on the Exchange in a few weeks when the price has settled

Or you could realise that the odds will be somewhat lower than 1 in 6.

Besides, you're still getting doffs, which is what you are paying for. How are they a con exactly?

lol they are selling doff packs - with a low chance to get a freighter. you still get the doffs. a con would result in you ending up with nothing. even lockboxes were/are not a con, just weighted very much in favour of the vendor not the buyer.

I agree with other posters. I put one doff pack on the exchange first day and got 5mil for it, opened the other and got a nice flight deck officer for my carrier. Win Win. If you don't expect to win big every time, you won't be disappointed so often. And sometimes life can surprise you - while I was on after the server reboot that introduced the packs, 6 people in space of 30 mins posted links to their freighter boxes, so they are in there. Luck of the draw man.

I opened about 30 Cardassian Lockboxes, about the same in Gamma Quadrant Duty Officers and no ship, the odds are stacked so far against you it's really not worth trying for the ship. The system isn't designed to be fair or equal, it's totally random and not how I would do it, but I'm not Cryptic.

You only opened 6, lucky you, I'd stop while you're ahead, it's only worth doing if you want duty officers with the bonus items just that a bonus.

You said yourself that you have not been "lucky" enough so I assume you realise that there is no guarantee that a pack when opened will have the Tuffli.

It's a cleverly disguised Grab-bag... Deal with it.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Ok ok I understand that its just a money making scheme to get you to get you to buy into something with a remote chance you will get it, Perfect World are not a great company (just my view) Being forced to change over from my Cryptic profile and register with Perfect World to even just post a msg on the STO forum about it sucks a litl, but im NEVER gunna buy anymore Cryptic Points or now Zen. Apart from if they reliece the Constellation Class  what I kinda have a soft spot for

****NOTE TO PEOPLE THAT HAVE AND WILL SLAM ME DOWN WITH THIS, I do not care nd just was warning other people not to get duped into paying good money on the chance that you will end up with a shiney new freighter****

To be honest, a lot of folks preferred this over the lock boxes when they ran the last promotion with the gamma quadrant doff packages. With the lock boxes, you stood a very good change of receiving nothing of value. At least with these, you're going to get a selection of doffs that you can use.

    http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=273037

A lot of those folks had anti lock box images in their sigs in that thread.

of the two, I would rather have something like this over the lock boxes we also have.

I bought those new DOff packs for the new Flight Officers and got EXACTLY what I wanted pretty much off the first pull.

    I didn't get ripped off.

I bought $50 worth of zen, spent 2000 on the ship sale, and spent the rest on duty officers. In keeping with my luck, no freighter. Nice new duty officers, though I am seeing a lot of white now.

I was hoping that the freighter would be easier to get, and it may be for someone with normal gambling luck.

It's PWs business model to create revenue. After Lock Boxes got a bad mood with the community the model was changed into the Officer packs.

Are you paying 220cp for a doff pack?
Were you paying 220 for a doff pack last month?

There is no con just because you don't get the super lucky lottery prize.

The ship is in addition to the normal doffs, its a bonus, the cost of the pack has not been raised.

I tend to think of a con as in where they promise something and fail to deliver it for the investment one made.

The OP's misconception is an example of why people are often suckered into playing lotteries - each time you buy a ticket / mystery box, the odds are reset - you don't improve your chances by buying more.

As far as things are concerned, the odds are clearly stated this time, and the worst-case scenario yields one a number of useful DOffs.

    The odds are pretty low.....

That being said i bought, last night, 10 packs and got 4 freighters....3 were back to back.......I promptly sold 2 for 55mil each and gave one away for the quickest repsonse to my question in a tell...
Today we fight the GAULS......monstrous and HAIRY beyond reason.

This is how Cryptc/PWE make money with a F2P model. I do sometimes miss the subscription days - same amount of content and less garbage.

LOL. 6 packs?! *gasp* you been robbed! :D

You could buy 600 packs and get squat, but Cryptic will thank you for your money. (Actually they won't.)
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

Thing is there IS a chance at the ship, you just didn't get one. Seven could be your lucky number, or it could take seven hundred. That's how these things work.

At least you stopped at less than $10. Some people spent hundreds upon hundreds of dollars on previous ships and walked away empty-handed.

While Cryptic does not post the odds of winning, previous ships had an expected value of about $150 US.

My words of advice: if you want to gamble, learn to play poker or blackjack. It is a lot more fun and you can actually win something more valuable than a flag in Cryptic's database indicating that you own the ship of the month.
