I hope it attacks things... I'm sick of useless pets... the NPCs have attacker pets... I want attacker pets...
It'll certainly attack your wallet.
Seriously, though, like Martok said if it were anything other than a vanity pet it wouldn't be put on the C-Store...at least not without a way to get it in-game.
Bets on when the Breen boff hits C-store?
Duh, of course it is! They arent going to make an item that cool and give people a two week opportunity to get it then never let anyone get anymore ever ever.
That's the reward. You get the item FOR FREE and a while before everyone else. Like the tribbles, with the test weekend.

It's not a bad thing.
While I was poking fun your response makes an interesting point. The thread has zero reason to be here then right? They need to squeeze a bit more money out for the labor of making these creatures so tax the feds for their kitty. Zero room to object since the labor was done.
Now the big question is.. is it obtainable for both klingon and federation toons, if only federation toons, why was this pet done so and why was there no counter pet for us klingons
Are you suggesting that Fed players can have a baby Targ? If not quit whining like a child.
Hmm. There's still a bit of weight to Cavalier's statement though... if the sales of the Sehlat pet are meant to fund the addition of that creature and it doesn't sell well, how many more ambient critters will actually end up in game?

No there is no weight to Cavaliers statement. At no point did anyone at cryptic ever say that ambient creatures would need to be bought. Only pets. The Ambient creatures will be free the pets will cost money. The pets simply offset some if the cost.
It's like some people on this forum lose all ability to think rationally when the C-Store is mentioned. Are people really that cheap or it it a misplaced sense of entitlement?

It has been explicitly stated, repeatedly, that the C-store funds the continuation of some tasks and the retention of staff at current levels. Either that is true, in which case it can be expected that the success of pet sales based on critter creation will have an influence on how much work actually ends up being done on ambient creatures, or it is false, in which case everyone up to and including dstahl are lying.

The C-Store offsets the costs but I doubt it covers them. The C-Store brings in revenue. Blizzard hardly needs the money to develop things in WoW but they also charge for non combat pets, decorative mounts and the like. It is simply a revenue stream and very good business. However you did in part demonstrate my earlier statement. You lost the ability to think rationally when the C-Store was brought up. So take a deep breathe and try and realize that a for profit business selling a product that it's customers want and WILL pay for is not a conspiracy aimed at TRIBBLE you. The last year or so as proven that people in MMO's of every stripe will pay for non combat pets, costume options, mounts and the like. A company can make more money on those than on subscriptions. So much more that some games have gone free to play. That money gives the companies both the resources to make more options available to players and the incentive to do so.
Ambient creatures are a win win situation. Cryptic make many types available to players for free and sell some as non-combat pets. Two birds with one stone.
I'm curious where you got 'Cryptic is out to TRIBBLE me' from the statement I made. Now, stuff like the Excelsior-5, that is breaking promises made and accordingly TRIBBLE the playerbase. However, my rumination on the relationship of successful pet sales to getting a decent assortment of ambient creatures is simply building from the repeated dev statements that boil down to 'we need the C-store as a financial crutch'.
As you note, Blizzard obviously doesn't need to sell any of the WoW pets, except in the sense that they 'need' a snazzier corporate jet or whathaveyou. Cryptic, according to their own statements, does 'need' the C-store. That dependency has repercussions in how resources are allocated.

I got it from your "lying" comment. A very loaded and completely irrational statement on your part.
As for the resources brought in by sales in the C-Store. It can only help a smaller company like Cryptic. It gives extra incentive to make animal models. And gives strength to those at the company that want to add a variety of ambient creatures to the game. You need to stop thinking of it as a crutch. They have never stated that. They have said that the increases revenue stream allows them to add more variety to the game. Variety that would have been lower priority without said revenue stream.
An even better reason for it to be in the C-Store (from my perspective) than the $ it sends to Cryptic is that this way not every character in game will have one.
Is anybody ,truly surprised its on the C-Store? At this point, they could put "Instant Complete Mission" awards and I wouldn't be surprised. Or rank up tokens, "Sick of grinding to Rear Admiral? Just buy a rank up token and instantly skip up 10 ranks, but get all the mission rewards, XP, etc" It still wouldn't surprise me at this point.

Agree, that post is completely off-base and heading toward reportable trolling territory. It's sad that pictures of virtual items make people THIS upset.

Um, how is putting a VANITY PET on the C-Store for 120CP the downfall of the game (because that's what appears to be your message)? The only way that I see any of that happening is if the game ever goes F2P, and that ain't happening any time soon.
Yeah, what is the big deal? They are still going to put ambient creatures around the place FOR FREE, these are here just to make an extra bucks.
Seriously guys, it is A PET, not a MISSION, or MAP, it is a PET, something that people LIKE, so please, SHUT UP and STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT EVERY LITTLE THING, and do something CONSTRUCTIVE WITH YOUR TIME. Now if there was a mission, or map, or something needed to complete the game in the C-Store, I would totally agree with you, but it isn't, it is just a cute little pet that does nothing but run around and be cute.
at first i belived in Dhstal, but now... not so much.
He is promising alot...
I mean if our going to release everything in the c-store, ships is one example, then give us a chance to get them ingame as well or make the game free to play and give us paying subscribers c-store points.
sure, the market has changed and all that, but does that mean that those of us that has other things to put our cash on (like food) should be left out of the content?
c-store stuff is content, no mather how you turn it.
in my opinion they may as well make the game f2p like the models already out there, where subscribers get point for each month to use.
In what way was none of it even remotely true? It was my level of surprise at things being on the C-Store and how nothing at this point could shock me even if they took it to such a ridiculous degree. Are you saying you know my level of surprise at things going on the C-Store more than I?

You have completely misinterpreted my message. I am just saying I have no idea why the OP is so surprised. There is nothing they could put onto the C-Store that wouldn't shock me.
I love how the devs give us 5 weekly missions and two new dailies with new aliens, grenades, guns, Breen bridge officers etc for free, with the promise of a second set of 5 only just over a week away...
And yet the release of a single vanity pet into the C-Store is clearly proof that the end is nigh and all they care about is profit.
*sigh*
I for one love the Sehlat. And it makes great sense to me. If they're looking to introduce ambient wildlife, why not do the modelling and artwork as a pet for the C-Store? That way that work gets paid for by the C-Store rather than taking money from something else, and then the newly created assets can be dropped into worlds as wildlife.

But my point is just, sometimes on these forums, you'd think everything new gets put into the C-Store so the players are getting fleeced on their monthly fee, which we're not. The C-store is just extras that no one has to buy. I personally still feel I get plenty for my monthly subscription without going into those extras.

Well, to be fair, you could've worded your post a bit differently. You did come off as a bit doom-and-gloomy. However, when you put it that way, I agree with you. I stopped being shocked seeing things continuously added months ago. Frankly, it's gotten out of hand and every time I see something new added in the C-Store without any other way to get it I die a little inside.
Comments
First off that is so unstar-trekky it's not even funny.
Second, it's useless, that's why it's in the C-store!!
It'll certainly attack your wallet.

Let's see...it's been out for almost two weeks now...so I'd say by the end of November, maybe? Just in time for the end of Series Two.
Ten quid says around the end of the next series of weeklies. So, November 13th.
Duh, of course it is! They arent going to make an item that cool and give people a two week opportunity to get it then never let anyone get anymore ever ever.

No those are free. Pets are bought in the C-Store

Subscription services are not free...
