We're getting ready to start modeling up some little ambient critters to populate maps with, but we'd like your help!
For clarity, these critters aren't going to be used for anything too dramatic, at least not at this point. They're just ambient critters, hanging out, populating the many intergalactic forests of the Star Trek universe.
and the Winner
....goes to the
C-Store
*speechless*
...
dStahl,
....how about i buy 10 of those and the Excelsior on top of it and therefore you tell a Dev to fix your User Interface so that it doesn't put my
GPU in sleep mode while playing?

Ambient creatures = free benefit for everyone
Pets = paid benefit to the developer's bottom-line.
120 C-Points
ohh i say 250 points... the merc suit was about that so a pet.. i can see it priced high
are you surprised.. its STO common, you guys act so surprise each time they add something to the cstore.. time to get with the times lol
ps.. iam sure the ambient creatures are free, but i think this is more of a personal pet
I'm sure that's not the case. There is a clear difference between a "pet" and the game's "ambient creatures."
I personally dont see a problem with this. It allows for more critters in the game. If you don't think you should have to spend money to have one follow you around then don't buy. More critters to look at plus more cash (and incentive) for cryptic to keep making stuff like this in game = win.
I agree with you in spades, but just remember...for every person that sees something like this as a positive thing...there will be on average seven people that find fault with it on the forums. But then again...the forum isn't the end all be all of Community opinion. This is why I think that Cryptic needs to make polls and such integrated in-game to get real feedback from the community rather than just limit themselves to those that patrol the forums.
No. We're getting ambient creatures in game.
To get a pet, you have to pay for it though. This is how the developers could justify the development time.
I see plenty of issues :P. I have just chosen to enjoy the game. If I get all upset over everything put into a store I would have a heart attack every month. I figure that just because something is for sale, doesn't mean I have to buy it. This item will not be game changing, just like (in my opinion) all of the other items for sale.
So the fact that every planet in the galaxy is a barren, lifeless rock wasn't enough justification to make ambient creatures, which could then theoretically be made pets?
That's sad.
Ohh see, in this game life forms from dirt.. there is no need for lifeforms on a planet because thats just silly talk
Nothing wrong with putting things up on the C-Store. Just give us a way to earn it in-game for those who would like the thing but refuse to buy it. Make it hard to earn, though.
you have any recent Dev quote on that?
I didn't hear about ambient critters pretty much since that poll.
It looks to me more like they made a few pets and instead of adding them as ambient critters they add them as C-Store Pets now.
The only Critter i have seen so far was the "Gekli" ...or "Junior" in the Undine Missions, which actually ended up to be a Ship instead of a neutral critter.
It certainly would be nice to see ambient critters first and THEN get the option to have one as pet ...not the other way arround.
/This right here
It is a blanket method that should be applied to 70-80% of the C-store (this goes double for starships and triple for T5 starships)
Or follow LotRO's example and give all subscribers X number of points per month to spend in the C-Store, dependent on their subscription level. P2P people get all conventional content as well as points to get what's in the C-Store.
New event there will not be any thing to shoot or level up by in 2 months all foes have been set to C-store, you must bye the enemies you want to kill, and it is not account wide so you must get them to all toons. 10 points per enemy so you must consider about 50.000 points here drop in the sea.
ships you get the starter ship that will be the runabout, and the rest of the ships will wary from 500-2000 points.
COME ON CRYPTIC what the HELL do you think we are an endless pit of money. this starts to smell more and more GREED this it getting out of hand and are getting OLD FAST.
Yeah, but thier attempts at that so far has caused many hate threads. Either way they will get complaints. But I see where you are coming from and completely agree. BTW your avatar = win.
Umm...... I think you went a bit far on this one. That's just my opinion.

To get ambient creatures, wait for evolution to produce them or for a higher power to create them.
/Check
To get a wild animal to have as a pet, go to a location in nature where the animal you are looking for is found, then either tranquillise an adult or distract the adult, then take it's eggs or young. Finally begin training and avoid being eaten alive.

No, in addition to getting ambient creatures into the game we can also buy one as a pet for our characters, more likely.
And I don't see any problems with that.
Now, if we could get a couple of cats (black with diamond studded collar and a tabby) and a beagle, we'd be set.
well that might be but come on more and more of the stuff that are supposed to BE in the game gets pushed to C-store, how would you like lets say play the new FF online and you must get all from the store, ambient creature Pfft then it ota be dropping BEST epic drops ant easy play if it is gonna be worth the money otherwise it is only Greeeeeed money money money,
smells more and more ugly in this place have you noticed all new ships to the majorety of the players are now pay up if you want it, and the the lover tiers get it "free" it is supposed to be the other way around.
im
starting to only see greed here and it gets worse by the week.
Also a worthy system.
I could easily get what I want on a small to medium C-point 'allowance' and purchase more if that sudden must-have item appears in rays of gold to choirs of angels.
You can't please everyone all of the time. I think that it is a fair compromise, one that I'm willing to accept. Every time I see an item being put up on the C-Store without an in-game method of acquiring it I die a little.
And I love my new avatar. I wanted to show Klingon support, so I did an image search and found that one. I felt it appropriate.
It will BE in the game as an ambient creature, as originally intended.
It will also BE available as a pet if you want your character to walk around with one constantly. You just have to buy it in that case.
That would be just silly, it's not going to happen, so no worries.
