Pretty neat. Well written, that's for sure.

If you have DP, go for a Guild Wars, non-perminant type thing. But if you have DP... move the mobs away from the Enemy Contact play spawn location!

    Ship interiors! Ship Episodes! yeah!

I just want an ETA on that 1st Raid Episode - sounds like fun... besides the daily exploratory missions are getting a bit boring :)

That being said, the SotG is thoroughly entertaining to read - I wish all game updates were written that way. Great job!

Why do people NOT want a death penalty  I mean doesnt it make sense that if you die it simulates maintenance? Any way these promises have caused me to renew my subscription...... dont fail now cryptic its a big market and you got me for now......:):):)

Thank you for the update. Thank you for the plain English, no fluff communication. I'm really looking forward to everything mention except the death penalty.

I'm confused that the majority of the posts I read are against a DP but the 'community' wants it so we are stuck with it.

Maybe I am only reading the anti-dp threads or something.

One last thing. If your listening to the community then why has there been no conversation on the skill cap?

It feels like you guys are actually taking the extra effort to absolutely avoid the topic when it is obviously a major topic for the players.

One way or the other some kind of feedback would be appreciated by all. And not the smoke and mirrors that the last Ask Cryptic: Skills was please.

If your going to reach out to the community then reach out to all the community and all their topics, not just the convenient ones. Take the time to address the specific concerns. Players on both sides of the fence will appreciate you for it I promise.

Again, thank you for the update and I look forward to the new content.

First I really like the update and I like how plain fun English it was written in. No boring stuffiness there!!

    No about the Death Penalty!!

NO NO NO NO... I want to keep playing no having to look for my body or ship... Not fun.. I like how you have it setup now..

OMG it was only a matter of time before somebody had to start crying about a "death penalty". I personally welcome it gives the game more of a MMO feel as opposed to a single player feeling. But if you cant deal with the death penalty then suck it up cause its coming wether you like it or not.

I'll bite for a difficulty slider if the rewards justify its inclusion and actually require player grouping for the more difficult option. Sort of like Heroic mode in WoW.

Fact is the episodes/series are full of countless examples of heroic effort by the captain and/or bridge officers to due various things to save the ship or the crew after things have all gone wrong. This is star trek. This would be immersion. PLEASE do NOT dumb the game down to some stupid, pay x amt of energy credits, sink that is unimaginative and pass up this kind of a chance to generate REAL, exciting, immersive content where your ship and your crew depend on your minigame actions....and those consoles we see in our interiors actually are USED for something...lol

Oh, wow. Now THAT is an idea I could run with. Thank you, knox1711!

My only MAJOR complaint beyond the stability was lack of unique content. Let's face it, a LOT of missions shared such common parameters that you instantly knew to turn your ship 25 deg starboard and run at full impulse for x time and there would be the first whatever. That is what drives me buggy. Closely followed by lack of content.

    Other concerns:

1.) If your a Dev, making statements like "if you react bad I will just quit" doesn't get you anywhere and just sets you up for the trolls to attack. They live to tweak people and getting a Dev is a huge bonus.

2.) I would say that we DESPARATELY need some better documentation on the skills, both player and BO. I have wasted a bunch of points experimenting to get improvements and even then it is often very difficult to guage any improvement. Specifically therr needs to be a serious reworking of showing what categories/skills improve what and where. A prime example of this are the commander efficiency skills. It was very hard to determine that Aux efficiency would actually increase my avail aux power by reading the description.

3.) Please stop with all the metaphors and stuff. ust give it to us straight, without all the ST references. It feels like we're being patronized when I see that used a lot, like in this addtress.

    Longer term issues

1.) BOFF AI - Having to stop and wait because a BO is stuck on a doorframe is annoying. It's also annoying to be in a busy fight and seeing your BOs just standing there.

2.) MUCH better stats display needed for just about everything. The UI functionality of the status tab (U key) is terrible. I have no clue what bonuses I am actually getting from seeing Skill - points layout currently in use.

3.) Most fleets are larger than 5 people. Really need like 20 man content at some point.

4.) Leveling pace is WAY too fast. RA in less than 4 days playtime?

    Overall

I like the game a lot but it does need some heavy work. I am glad that you recognize that and i look forward to seeing what comes next.

    Quote posted by Knox 1711:
I am VERY glad to hear that ship interiors are on the radar...I propose a way to get the community involved with them and offer a designers "sandbox" mingame.

I recommend that each ship be given three "decks" that they can design...
    1)Bridge/ready room/conference deck
    2)Crew Quarters/Lounge/Sickbay deck
    3)Engineering/shuttle bay deck.

There could be more, my examples are just to flesh out the concept.....

Now, you already have a TON of the art assets available for these areas, and corridors, furniture, etc. etc. Provide players with a simple, 2d tool, basically a map designer, where we could "kitbash" together a deck out of the "building blocks" of rooms and corridors you already have in game (of course you could feel free to add a few more :P). Or you could even take it down a level and let us kitbash individual rooms using lower level design elements like chars, beds, computer consoles, etc.

Now, you could have a design contest and pick the top five interior designs for each ship type (cruiser, esc, sci) and let players pick one of those default interiors if they were not into designing their own...

Player housing is a HUGE sandbox draw in certain games. It makes you feel like you own and have CREATED a piece of the game world. It gives you a real stake in it...and makes you feel more immersed in it...it also gives you a chance to display loot..I would love to have a bar ans stick it with romulan ale and aldeberan whisky Ive looted :P

Finally, as an over the top, finishing touch, when we discharge one of our old ships, I would like to see it turned into a display model in our inventory that we could then use as a decoration in our ready room or captains qtrs...this is VERY star trekish and would add a great coolness factor...like the stargazer on display in picards RR, etc. Also it would be better than having a discharged ship just go poof...lol

I didn't think of the housnig aspect to the game but that is an awesome idea to maybe use your ship and have a starbase stateroom or something to design and can create stuff for the ship from using memory alpha data and maybe add an exchange and bank on the ship."

Thx...That reminds me, decks would be more like:

    1)Bridge/ready room/conference deck
    2)Crew Quarters/Lounge/Sickbay/Holodeck
    3)Engineering/shuttle bay/Replicator/transporter room deck

    etc.

As far as starbases go, I would love to see an extrapolation of my ship idea and have guild owned starbases of varying sizes based on "purchase price", whatever that might be, from Regulus all the way up to really big ones...That allow the guild "admiral" or his designates to design the interior, JUST like player city mayors get to design or designate the design/layout of their cities in certain other games. And here is where guild members could have instanced qtrs as well.

Again, simple 2d tool map design tool, finite number of "decks", and basic building blocks of O Clubs, Conference halls, banks, apartments, command staff qtrs, etc. etc. from exisitng art assets. And again, cyrptic could have a contest, designate top designs for each starbase type, and have those available as "defaults" for guilds that didnt want to design their own....

Well, Alright! so you do listen to us... But to which of us are you listening? Is it the Mal-Contents who spend most of their time on the Forums, ****ing and moaning about the lack of a "Death Penalty"?? Because if it is then you guys are really failing to pay attention.

My point is that your most dedicated fans are "PLAYING STO", not throwing a fit on the forums. What I advise is to track what people who play do, as they play. Then you'll know what we like and don't like, about the game.

Oh, and while I'm here, I just have one more thing to say: Good Job! I know you aren't fixing every bug I report ... instantly. But I can tell you are trying to work on the overall state of the game. Now if I could just take one of my Engineers, with Medical Turret, on an Away Team it would be appreciated. :p (Now I'm off to play more STO...)

i don't know if anyone else has noticed, but the ship sizes are kind of off. I mean a Galaxy class should dwarf a defiant or miranda class, it my be just me but the ships seem kind of small. I'm not complaining, just bringing up a subject.

SOUNDS GREAT!!!! YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT TRACK or "COURSE"

    a few ideas:

1 a Ship's inventory BIGGER then the personal one
2 more interaction whit the NPC's
    3 factions like the "marquis"

    MANY none instanced zones
POI's Like Paris, starfleet academy, Mt. Selaya on Vulcan etc
STARBASES for your fleet, the higher level your fleet the bigger the starbase
REAL CRAFTING! With a secondary class like programmer or wood-worker (Yea FURNITURE for your CABIN)
BETTER EMOTE SYSTEM: Why do I have to type /emote_dance blah blah blah when I SHOULD be able to say /Dance 1 2 or 3?
MORE THAN ONE SERVER. I want an RP server so I can play with people who want to take the game seriously and a server for those who want to name there ship the USS (Insert dirty phrase here)
LESS INSTANCING I dont want to play CoX in space
LESS INSTANCING Its cool for all those random worlds but there should be some places you can go that are not instanced
COLLECTION QUESTS I should be able to find little bits of stuff down on planets or in space that can become great house items or equipment, it adds fun to the game to have little silly quests that are not main stream but add something for you to do OTHER than the BROKEN Beytan system
NON HUMANOID CHARACTER OPTIONS I want to make a Lt Arexx for my crew, OR a Cat person like M'riss
THOLIANS Where the hell are the tholians? You got the Gorn in there but no Tholians?

Ive been waiting for this game since I discovered MMOs with Dark Age of Camelot DONT TRIBBLE THIS UP. I dont know where it is written that al instanced games have to suck so lets have LESS OF IT.

OOOO AND ADD SOME FRIGGEN VOICE CHAT WOULD YOU? My God EVERYONE has VC now, Im PAYING for this game every month I dont want to pay a seperate company to do something you SHOULD HAVE HAD in the the first place.

Edit: Not trying to start a flame war, I don't completely disagree with people for the DP, but STO devs do need to actually poll for these issues first, and there's no way of knowing what percentage of players wants what without them.

.....Use death as a vehicle to launch into a series of immersive minigames that bring the bridge and your ship interior to life in a COMPLETELY star trek fashion...

    Here is what I mean:

Before your ship blows up, it gets "incappped". During this time, as an engineer you would play a QUICK, fast, fun, minigame to avert a warp core breach, or bring life support back online...these would be done on "consoles" on the bridge or in engineering. If you succeed, you get back into the fight with a small energy buff - if you fail, well the ship goes kaboom, and you respawn with a debuff...

As a tactical officer, your minigames could be things like managing internal security system to repel boarders, or disarming a chroniton torpedo warhead that had pierced the hull, but not yet exploded...

A science officer could use a console minigame to navigate the ship out of some anomaly that that last volley of photons blasted your ship into, or a minigame to triage or heal the crew, etc.

It should be TRIVIAL to come up with 5 or so, fast, fun minigames, for each class based on exmaples from the series' of ways to save the bacon...then they would be triggered at random. Faster you complete the minigame successfully, faster you get back into the fight.....
So would there be some kind of rewards for these minigames? I am one of those who would have prefered not to have a DP. I know it is quite popular on these forums to tell people who disagree about something that they should go play a different game. But this is the first post I've ever seen that will actually force us to play a different game. Fascinating!

Ok, I'm hoping this gets passed around the office. I like most of what I see in the State of the Game (SToG) announcement. Except of course the idea of a DP coming into the game. But as has been said the majority should be the ones to decide if a DP should be brought in or not.

    Here's the problem though.

Generally with any game the majority do not speak up on the forums. Only those that are vocal do. Which often in any society are the types of people that are either A: Whiney butts no matter what or B: of leadership quality. Hence why we have politicians in the world. ;)

So here's my suggestion to find out exactly if a DP should be put into the game or not. I've stated it in other threads before but feel it may get a better chance at being seen here.

Ask the question in game. Have a window pop up with the question/questions about DP.

Don't limit the question to a yes/no. Ask weather or not they want a harsh DP or a soft DP also. Add in a comment box.

I seriously think that this should be done as DP is one of those issues that people do quit over. While sure people may quit either way I think that it only makes decent buisness sense to try to minimize the amount of people that quit by following what the majority wants. And not just the more vocal on a forum which doesn't represent even the majority of people on this game.

Would LOVE to see a button on the market that takes you to the last page, instead of waiting 5 secs to hit next, 1.2.3.4.5, next, 1.2.3.4.5, next.....

EDIT. "Left", and "Right" shields should be "port" and "starboard". there are already a couple of different voiceover options - honestly i rather like the expanded one that basically says "hey stupid, fire torpedo" - please?

For me it would depend on what the DP actually -was-. Losing a few crew and having to go back to a Starbase to replenish them wouldn't be too bad but that only works for ship-side, thematically. Not sure what they have planned for it, but Cryptic's always been creative with that kind of thing and their earlier takes on it (XP debt and loss of Hero Points) weren't bad at all, really.

Please give the Klingons a REAL Faction....The Fed side is fun and has lots of options and story lines. I Love the Klingons but, PvP over and over is boring. The best fun I have had on this game yet was the Last day of Beta when Klingons could actually leave their small sector (which isn't accurate to the real Star Trek faction territories) and engage the enemy like a real universe at war. I flew my Bird-of-Prey into the Star base 24 instance and it was fun....Please allow this as regular game play. Thank You

So far I love almost everythig about Star Trek online. There are a few bugs but that is to be expected but what I ike is that you address them as soon as possible, not when we make an add-on aka update for another $50 then you'll get it.

I love the fact that you are listening to the players ideas and I've seen one I was thinking of with the Diplomacy Scale for the various groups and ways to improve or reduce relations with the other races/factions in the Star Trek world.

I've been given a free trial for wow a couple of times but can't bring myself to play it. Same with EVE though that is more exciting with the ability to research and do ship creation, but what I absolutely love about Star Trek online is that it is BOTH ground and space exploration.

It wouild be cool to find new races and use diplomacy to bring them into the fold of the Feds or other groups as trade/military allies.

Also I like that not only are you working on more missions, but story. Anyone that has played any good rpg like Mass Effects, Knights of the Old Republic and a few others are the leaders in their genre because not only do they deliver on the action goods, but a compelling story that has movie potential. I've learned more about the backgrounds of some characters I know in the Star Trek world and it's refreshing to see a continuation of the story through the next generation of people that knew or are related to them.

Keep up the good work, Darren aka Sheldon Cooper......bazinga
