I am naming all my ships for the places I've lived in my life.

My starter ship is named for the City I was born, Wiesbaden.

I have 9 more ship names to use after the starter ship.

    Obvious where that's from, isn't it? ;)

NICE! Some of us are old enough to remember that one.
A better Klingon ship name, perhaps?

    USS Thunderchild

It was the name of an Ironclad Ram ship in the HG Wells book, War of the Worlds. The Martians were butchering the civilians who were trying to escape England by sea... Thunderchild was the only warship in the bay at the time and drove headlong at the martians guns a blaze, destroying two before the insurmountable odds took over and the martians destroyed her. But she sacrificed herself to save the civilians... and the name forever to me meant honor and gallantry.

On a Conical note, the USS Thunderchild is also an Akira class ship that fought the Borg Cube in First Contact. Happy to say that this Thunderchild faired better than her names sake

Right now? Well, I named my Miranda-class after an old and beloved canine friend, who passed away back on '01. I fly the USS Ursa.

I've gone through quite a few names though, through beta:
    • Imaginary
    • Jabberwock
    • White Rabbit
    ...just to name a few.

I think my spouse's ship is named the Penrose, after the physicist.

Why did you pick it any real reason or was it just random post it here.

Mine was the USS Sentinel. Named after My old Lug Trek Ambassador Class Ship. captained that thing for 18 years before it got blown up by the Hur'Q. total roleplay nerd here.

Other ship is the USS Tantalus. Another Nod to a Star trek rpg i play. it was a Galaxy class.

I changed the name of mine. but it was the USS Freedom until some jackass in OB renamed his ship after mine.

I'm the captain of U.S.S. Wheelbarrow, which originates from ancient Greece.

I did not plan to have this rookie ship for more than one day though but whatever, at least it's fun to see all these crybabies make an idiot out of themselves as they have nothing better to do, lol.

    USS Nightgazer

I have no real background to it's name, other than a fitting name for a science vessel.

    In OB: USS Freedom

    Mostly for it's namesake. :)

I use ancient weapon names as my ship names. Escort is Mjolnir (Thor's hammer) and Science vessel is Dyrnwyn (a sort of holy sword from Welsh lore).

    USS Atherstone

The name of my home town (Warwickshire, England).
Atherstone also has a Royal Navy ship named after her - HMS Atherstone - the 3rd Royal Navy ship to bear the name.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Atherstone
    http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/operations-and-support/surface-fleet/mine-countermeasure/hunt-class/hms-atherstone/

The crew of HMS Atherstone parade through the town once in a while to much applause, I plan on doing the same...

Nice name, tribute to Apollo 1. USS Grissom, which was in Star Trek III was presumably named after Gus Grissom. Who was, in addition to being a pioneer astronaut was also a scientist and engineer...

All those original astronauts have resumes that would make your head swim.

My ship's name, the USS Samsara, is from a Techno event (Escape from Samsara) that was held at the Rocket somewhere in London nearly 13 years ago. It was the first all night disco biscuit fest I went to. Lots of good memories from that night and I thought the name was kinda cool.

Been trying to pick some Trek names/themes for mine since head-start:

    USS Katra
    USS T'Prynn

But I've also been using some from the random generator from Beta:

    USS Versailles

And one to give a nod to an old gaming server community from another mmorpg:

    USS Gorath

I tend to like something themed toward the IP myself but if something from another IP can seemingly fit (Gorath could be the name of a planet somewhere or even a historic town...) I'll probably use it.
