Well there is no definitive answer for that, but it mite come from the old term 'Saw Bones' of which 19th century American Surgeons were called due to the amount of amputations they did.

Dang, Dodgers beat me to the answer. The answer he gave is correct it actually came from the American Civil War. The number of amputations alone during the Battle of Gettysburg was close to 8,000 total preformed on both sides.
Dodgers is correct and yes, the updated reason gives it a little comedic appeal. While I am a big fan of TOS and did not like all of their changes, it's a darn good movie and I am anxious for the next installment. I just hope they don't try to reinvent the wheel. The one they already had was in pretty good shape.

Seems like you guys are exactly what I'm looking for, casual yet professional. Also I'm liking the fact that Seeker is from Gods Country (Geordie or Makem though mate?).
I Played at launch for about a month but got really bored when everyone I played with left so i quit aswell. Read some reviews a few weeks back saying that the game has changed massively so I thought Id give it another look. Im rather glad I did, it feels like a whole different game to the one I played over a year ago!
