While I'm somewhat disappointed that I can't play tonight, the simple truth is this:
The beta test does not exist for our entertainment or convenience.
It exists for the convenience and expedience of the developers, so they can find and fix problems with the game.
I'm not sure why this concept eludes so many people, when it seems so patently obvious.
And yet you could say this 1000 times over and again and there will still be people that are going to **** an moan about it. What if, and I mean this is a big what if, they took the servers down during open beta to prevent butt **cking the game and having this problem after launch. I'll take the later because all the TRIBBLE you're doing in game right now is about to get wiped in 5 days. Ah why bother trying to explain.
Now that you and a lot of you purchased your lifetime subs, they don't gotta tell you squat. They have your money. If anything, they need to explain to those who are watching carefully whose money they don't have.
I'm sure there's at least a couple Ferengi Rules of Aquisition in their thinking somewhere...
LOL, if there is we'd have nothing and they'd be rich, lol
LoL I do have to admit, I'm not sure I really understand why they keep bringing the servers down for maintenance during one of the times of highest usage.
But hey, betabetabetabetaetc. The last couple of patches have improved the game literally by leaps and bounds. I've participated in tons of betas (and some alpha tests, as well) and I gotta say I'm pretty impressed with the rate at which the Dev team has been churning out fixes.
Here's hoping this downtime will mean more good news!
I have to agree, the patches have been coming often and I think the improvements have been phenomenal!!

Welcome to beta.......... These things happen, so when the game is released they don't.

You are wise and your thoughts are intriguing.
I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter.
For an in production game I would agree. But this is Beta, they could take it down the entire day if they felt the need to. They're working on it, give them the time. They're taking these "brief" maintenances now so they don't have to do it in February.

Well put. I know everybody is dissapointed the server is down...prolly for many's entire game night; but this is beta, and we are here to test just as they are here to fix. Thankfully, i'm retired and will most likely still be here when the server comes back up
4/5 groups defeated and...Disconnected:( Can we pick a new time to pull the plug?!?!?!
I wish I can barely finish 1 mission when I get home from work before they cut the servers off...last night I wasn't able to even complete 1, had to finish it tonight, only to have servers shut down again, so I've gained next to nothing (and been able to test NOTHING) in 48 hours.
By the time the servers are back up, I'll be having to go to bed (I have a job, ya know).
If this is the time they're going to maintain after launch, I'm not going to play, literally, even if I pay for a subscription.
ok for all u guys gripeing about them takeing the servers down at prime time remember its only prime time if u live in the US. I for one live in ireland and it 3am here and they could not have picked a better time as im off to bed:) see u all in the morning
If these are truly emergencies, they are too frequent just 8 days before launch IMHO.
If they are really just pushing today's updates, it would be more considerate to the players to stagger them. We did spend money for access to this open beta, but yes it is a beta so we shouldn't expect it to be fully operational.
Looks like it's gonna be another late night hitting refresh on this thread, waiting for the servers to come back up, then staying up way too late to log some actual game time. It's worth it.
Beta is beta. Test it when it's up and shut your cakehole when it's not while they work on fixing things. That's the reason for it, not so you can enjoy yourself.
Why is all the maintenance being done during prime time?
Also, the explore sectors have a really slow respawn rate after the last patch.
And one last thing I got a little hooked on this game more than I thought I would.
Prime Time= MAX LOAD on servers, this is most likely causing this to happen. Remember...... it's beta, this is not very different from any other beta test.
You see, our prime time is when Cryptic is ready to go home to their family. Its the time they say "Hey guys, lets upload everything we worked on today! Upload started? Ok, see ya tomorrow."

This won't be the time they maintain after launch. They know these are "peak" times. However they're doing it now in beta because at these "peak" times is when they can see the greatest number of bugs and performance issues and can get them resolved with updates. Once the updates go in they can see how the hold up for 24 hours and go again from there. Come launch I'm sure maintenance will be done in "off" hours when they find server populations to be lowest. You'll be able to play at launch at least, don't worry.

LOL, I know what you mean. Maintenance right in the middle of prime time won't be a popular move.
I wish they would do routine maintenance on the server in the morning if possible. It's become a nightly occurence, not "emergency".
I love how they wait to do this until most people get home from work and get ready to play. Nothing like sitting down to play only to find out the servers are going to be down for hours. Just like last night.
Praying that this is exclusive to beta, and not a preview of things to come.

That game + Syfy's TNG Marathon = Quickest Route to the Hospital for and Emergency Liver Transplant!

It's a matter of perspective. If the alternative is 3 weeks; 3 hours is brief.

I'll raise that bet with a Deflector dish
"I hate u rabbit!"
I love that mission as well. I wish I took my Connie on that one. Went with my Science vessel instead.
Bug related
The new launcher started Champs Online Instead of STO. Fixed it under options

EPIC WIN. PLEASE PASS GO, PLEASE COLLECT $200.
