It's crunch time. I bet they are probably on a 24/7 schedule until a week or two after Feb 2.

Oh. well thank you for that. Hmm. Well then to pass the time away, I shall now entertain you all with the myraid adventures of the USS Meridian and it's faithful crew! (and yes, all you people can help shape the story! whoo! that'll make the time fly by!)

::cue opening really cool credits of "Star Trek: Meridian with some spiffy music::

Captain's Log, stardate, today. Narrowly escaping the threat of semi-active and remnant parts of the Borg in Klingon space, the crew of the Meridian gears up for their next assignment -- proceeding to Sierra station and beaming up cargo for delivery to Risa. Starfleet has made this their top priority and labeled the contents of these crates on a "need to know" basis. Already aboard the ship, rumors are flying about. Each department speculating what the mysterious cargo just might be.. and what it might mean for the Meridian.

Love the updates/patches etc, but the timing could be better.

I literally JUST sat down to play after checking that the servers were up.

That really has nothing to do with doing maint during the time when the most people are probably on. If Cryptic is indeed working around the clock, logic would dictate they do their maint at a time when the least people are on.

nuts was just getting into the swing of things....
patch notes please and lets hope i no longer appear on my bridge as my space ship, on away missions as my spaceship without my away team, and as myself in space!

As far as prime test time goes, I'm not sure you could have chosen a worse time if you tried. Then again, maybe you DID try. If so, congrats :o

the problem with it being in the so called prime time (your prime time is not mine) is that its also the early evening PST when im sure a lot of work has been done during normal working hours, and the day shift devs want to implement it and go home and let the night shift devs take over.

I have one word for you and a lot of people who can't seem to stop complaining:

    QUITCHO*****IN

    /endrant

Brief maintenance and 2 hours seem to conflict with each other...

Also why don't you save patches for first thing in the morning when you normall arrive, that way if any game killers pop you can still work on it that day without have to stay extra late. That would also solve the issues with bringing the server down during prime time...

    Just a thought...

Yep, I too like the new face of what I saw with the latest patch. Though, these server patches are coming prime time for me so it's really biting into my ability to test. Oh well, just a few more weeks to go before I can begin playing for myself, looking forward to it!

Time flies when you're doing scheduled emergency maintenance during peak hours.

Sure it does. when something is set to be deployed ASAP, it gets deployed when it is done and approved. Be it that the time between the last patch and this one was quite a while I would still expect a few rapid fixes her and there the next few days.

Yes its a Beta. But heres a tip. You want a stress test? Don't take the beta offline during what is the peak playtime for most individuals. How do we stress it then?

I do play to test. I report every bug I find. I can't find a single one trolling the forums though. You want testers? Have to make the game available. Can't test when we are at work or asleep.

Plus, they better get into the habit of patching not during peak hours. Someone said "No one is volunteering to come in at 4am" or something else equally stupid involving 4am. Well again, I point to live... What are you going to do then.

This is a legitimate complaint. Want testers, have the dam game up and able to be tested.

Yes, it would be nice if the appearing as Character Avatar when entering a space map or appearing as Ship Avatar when entering a ground map would be fixed. It is accompanied by a long delay before mission start windows open and playability commences. Amusingly, today, my Character Avatar has fallen through space, taken damage while landing feet first in a vacuum, and "dust" has arisen from the impact.

Early today, I beamed out of an Away mission, and my character fell from the asteroid belt where she was to battle a fleeing vessel. She fell as a Character Avatar and "landed" in the void fairly far below the belt. When the Ship Avatar finally appeared in place of the Character Avatar, I had to circle back up on the asteroid to look for the fleeing vessel, which could not be found. Solution: Abort Mission, reenter Mission. For those who experience this problem.

The other bug that would be well addressed is the non-appearance of your Away Team on away missions.

For those who have not caught on or heard yet, if your Away Team does not appear you have two recourses at present:

    1) Group: If you are grouped with other player(s), and your Away Team does not appear, there will be a "Request Reinforcements" button. Hit that and after a delay your mission team members will "beam down".

    2) Solo: If you are playng solo and your Away Team does not appear, type in the command /fillpetteamlist and hit Enter. After a delay your Away Team will appear.

However, it would be really nice if this was a non-issue.

Scotty once said a Miracle Worker gives a much longer time period for a fix when it really will take half of that time.....or something like that...they are just taking his advice :)

I can't wait to get back ingame though, maybe I wont be booted as often?

It's always someone's 'prime time'. (Even at oh-dark-thirty in the morning in your time zone.)

The odds are they get a build 'made' with fixes, and have to have it done by 1-2 their time. Then they put it up on their internal server to see if it bombs or not. The two hours it takes to get live back up is likely taken from how long it took them to get 'steady & not crashing' on the internal server. (Eg it took them an hour and a few, they double it for luck.)

    Hardware may go faster.

You may now return to your QQ. :D

As a general rule of thumb, expect the servers to be down from 9pm - 1am central standard time, then you'll be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't happen.

Must have been my fault. I was finally getting time to do some playing this evening and I logged in to see the rather cryptic (forgive the pun) message saying the servers would be down for two hours. Except it didn't say When the downtime began, making the information quite accurate but almost useless.

So I came to the forums to find out and I discovered that the servers went down at almost precisely the moment I was logging in. How wonderful is that?

For future reference, please state on the Downtime messages when the downtime started, OR when the downtime is expected to end at.

LOL... I keep wondering if my character can hold his breath long enough to return to the comfortable environment of his ship.

It's okay, the impact of hitting the floor of space will kill you long before you run out of oxygen.

And explosive decompression is a myth, apparently.

Just a suggestion: On the main site or elsewhere/wherever, PLEASE stop calling it emergency maintenance seeing as its done every single night?

They didnt call it emergency, they called it brief.
