I have stacks of Space and Ground Injury Consumables in the Bank and use them immediately if I die in an Advanced TFO if I've been injured. I have never purchased a single one, they've all come from drops. I transfer new ones to the Bank as soon as I get back to a Bank. I have also, of late, started to just get rid of them through the Replicator especially if it will start a new stack.
Within the last month or so I went into an Advanced TFO and one of the Team had like 7 Injuries starting off. It's hard to tell whether it was through lack of knowledge or deliberate.
Most of us Veterans probably keep full stacks of recovery items in our banks so the injury system is really a non issue. And Agreed on those who START with multiple injuries. Me personally... if I see around 3 I figure dude probably doesn't know. I see a long string of injuries I INSTANTLY tag them as a troll because there is NO WAY IN HELL you can miss that.
There seems to be a subset of those who present an elitist attitude and look down on everyone who don't "measure up" to THEIR standards. Its a bit of an ongoing issue in the STO community. It might be an unintended side effect of the DPS League existing. I'm not a member, but I believe they mostly just track DPS scores, which many people use as a measure of effectiveness in the game. Some members take it WAY too far, going so far as to berate anyone who doesn't meet their percieved expectations and not give advice on how to improve. Jonsills is just highlighting that attitude for others to see.
I personally have nothing against anyone who does high DPS. However the second you start using that as ammo to belittle others and browbeat... that respect is lost, and also gives those GOOD people in that community a bad name.

In 4 years of DPSing I never met two players of the league who are exactly the same and have the same attitude on everything. Many cool boys and girls, some black sheep. Like everywhere in life.
We like to min/max the stuff the game offers, and sure, we like to min max our teamplay as well but that is where the similarities end.
While it is correct that DPS can have an impact on a persons character I have seen ten times as many positive changes than negative ones among fellow player on thier journey to get better. Jerks can do DPS too of course but they already had their character deficit before thier numbers.
As for the two players besides me around here using the banner, Felisean and Seaofsorrows, they have the finest character traits you can find in a fellow player. I cant describe in words how happy I am to have met both of them and now have to share my STO journey with.
Yea, I noticed both of them to shake their head on occasion when encountering players that contribute less dmg with thier starships than other do with a hand gun on ground but thats as far their as thier elitism goes. They also would take every effort on sight the second such a player tries to change his/her contribution and asks for help.

It is disapointing to read such a post from you. I was thinking about a propper reply but gave our forum mod too much to do in this thread already eventhough I should have know better.
If that is realy how you see me (or us or whatever) after all this time in forums, all the countless build and play advices... I can live with it mate.

The main issue overall is those Black Sheep giving the good people a bad name.
Hm. If that is the case I'm not worried that much. Players intelligent enough will know better than to generalize and the rest does not matter.
I just fear that there is more to it you know. DPSer have the unfortunate habbit to put a mirror at everyone else's gaming perfromance and if there is one thing a human hates is when he is unhappy with what he sees in the mirror.

However when they introduced randoms, they should have known that this content would become relevant again
They did. In fact, when they first showed off the RTFO system on the live streams they got dropped into a Borg ground TFO and spent some time talking about how awful it was.
Oh you got to be kidding me. Would you mind linking it? Because after reading this discussion I would not mind watching it. It took one video to translate awful content to awfully player performance. More examples as to why this content is being labeled “dated” or in need of “fixing” would be greatly appreciated here to clarify. Perhaps basic jumping was not the greatest challenge that had to be faced there so it should be exciting to watch.
Why so surprised? Cryptic consistently makes only Easy Mode content, so I'd expect that must be their idea of good gameplay.
This comparison fails when you realize that the difficulty of jumping in TT is orders of magnitude easier.
I think it actually makes the comparison even more valid. If people have a hard time with TT, then what makes anyone think the jumping in the borg TFO, which has all of those additional factors, is even a remotely good idea?
How about the self-respect STO can maintain that pressing the engage button at the start of your gaming session is not the biggest challenge this title provides?
I actually hate the injury system and favor it's removal.
Personally, my incentive not to die is personal pride.. I hate it when I drop in teamed runs and make every effort to see that it's a rare occasion. It does however, happen at times and I take it as a personal failure every time.
I get the idea that removal of the injuries removes one of the few consequences of death and that's a fair point. To me, it's just annoying having to go heal between maps as the price of Critical Regenerators is a bit silly.
I would consider it a fair compromise if the injury system remained and even had the effects increased provided that the injuries healed upon successful completion of the map. If you were successful, then on the next map you have no injury. If you fail the map, you have to go get healed up.
On Advanced, only completion of the map would be required to remove injuries. On Elite, completion of all optionals would also be required to heal the injuries.
The real problem with the current injury mechanic is the ease of removing them. It's not a real death penalty, it's just a nuisance to be clicked away, and a waste of inventory space.
If I were to redesign the system, there would be no clicky insta-heals. Healing injuries mid-mission would be impossible, you'd have to wait for it to be over so it's a meaningful consequence to dying. Outside a mission you could use a minigame (that you could fail) and/or doff assignments (that take time) to heal them, one by one. Either that or they'd just heal automatically when you leave the mission, because if there's a free insta-heal, making players go to an NPC to use it is just boring hoop-jumping.
But the current system as it stands now is definitely useless and the game would be better without it.
@rattler2 no, I know what he meant, but more in a general way. I don't think I've seen any elitist attitude in this thread, but I might have missed something.
I am part of the league, something I'm quite happy about because I worked towards it and it gave me an even better understanding of the game and its mechanics, (not to mention sparked some very interesting discussions about builds and such with my fleetmates), but I couldn't care less if those in the group with me can't parse 10k. That's not a measure of how good a player is, or at least it's not what should matter when it comes to perfomance: you can do 250k in ISA every time, but if you do it by ignoring everything but the two transformers, the gate and the tactical cube - while leaving all the rest of the people to pick up the trash (while hoping no AFK penalty will befall them) - then you're performance was very poor indeed.

The conclusion you've come to is the exact opposite of what you could expect and what I've experienced. You've somehow confused commentary on basic game play and teamwork versus simply labeling content as bad or needs to be changed/removed with that of elitism and an unwillingness to help.
What you could expect is some very timely comments in team chat that are very much designed to teach or at least assist in the successful completion of a particular TFO with respect to strategy or approach as well as enough skill to help if, through inexperience, you don't get something quite right. As the emphasis is on self improvement, having fun, and accomplishing a goal via teamwork, you will most definitely get a "good game and thanks all" at the end. There's also a trend of sharing knowledge of 'things that work well' in the game which again is given with the primary emphasis of making things more fun for you and me.
The last time I saw the only two players in this thread bearing the badge you mentioned in-game, they were busy getting a gang of fellow fleet members and friends together to help a player get through their very first run of Miner Instabilities Elite. Earlier the same day I had tried to answer a few simple ground questions for that same player who also expressed an interest in improving their ground game as they didn't feel they were very good at it. In other words, they were taking the time to teach.
I really think you've mis-read things. Whether it be in-game or in real life, there are few higher references to one's character than to pass along knowledge in a field one is proficient in.
i would rather they just give engineers a fast-recharging power that can remove injuries in space - and science officers on the ground - instead of requiring those constant trips back and forth to doctors/engineers, or carrying around items in valuable inventory slots...especially given how insanely expensive the critical versions are
make healers a tiny bit more welcome in queues and make it possible to forcibly remove injuries from trolls
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"

The Force is united within me.
Guild Wars 1 had a death penalty system where you got decreases(up to 60%) of your HP and energy, and the only way to remove it was to kill lots of enemies, or bosses. This was made even worse in hard mode because in missions and explorable area, if you reached 60% DP, the next time you died you got booted back to the nearest outpost. Everyone hated it so much they just removed the thing entirely in GW2. Such systems don't make death meaningful, they just make the game a chore.
It also makes no sense in a setting like Star Trek that one wouldn't be able to repair injures, either on your character or ship, when we see them do JUST THAT in the TV shows and movies. Not allowing players to do so is just arbitrarily denying them things we know exist to make the game harder then it should actually be.
To add onto this.
If there needs to be a death mechanic in STO, it should be the same one allied NPC ships have where, instead of being blown up, they just get disabled, and they spend like 10 seconds repairing themselves. Players would only get repaired to like 30%-50% or something.
Speaking of that...for group queues, I would rather they made it so other players have to fix you. You just sit there until somebody saves you. If you all die, the mission fails. For solo...I'm not against your idea.

Yeah, why not just make players permanently immune to all damage while you're at it.
Well I can say the few times that I played alongside the dps league has been a good experience, They are very knowledgeable and were very helpful to me. I have referenced their website frequently to get my ships to some sort of reasonable level where I don't feel like I'm being carried through a tfo. I have also referenced Mr. Vailkin's videos on youtube that has helped alot with my ground set up (I wish he would make more sto videos and wasn't he part of dps league?)
Another good site for beginners and even seasoned players is Teacher Kirby on youtube. Ashamed as I am to admit it, I was basically in the dark when it came to crafting and upgrading. Her videos has taken me on a step by step tutorial that now I can't wait for the next upgrade weekend.
There are alot of other videos that are good guides and alot of pro-players that have offered to help and guide the new players through those first difficult steps in builds and tfo's and I try to emulate that attitude whether it's kindly telling a new player that it's not a good idea to drop a gravity well next to a borg transformer we are trying to blow up to letting another know that running into a cave in Nukara without a EV suit is just going to make the Tholians laugh.
This game is about having fun and I cannot believe that the dps league would put that much effort in making guides and videos if they thought it was their job to do so.
I think the fun for them and alot of folks like them is to help players get better and better and I for one am thankful to them for that.

Mike, upon experiencing visual clutter of multiple abilities, including Badlands tornado: "If you can tell what's going on, you're not me".
Hallelujah. Now please do something to remove the visual clutter or provide us a way to turn it off.
What I'd love is a way to seperate "in-universe HUD elements" and "actual existing visual" from each other, one the major reasons for visual clutter is that you see elements that in-universe would be shown in the viewscreen/bridge consoles of the ship creating them and nowhere else. If we could remove the UI elementals for any "irrelevant" to us buffs/debuffs, possibly combinied with making some of the more visually distracting abilities get more toned down or putting emphasis to important elements (like enemy NPCs or allies) within those effects.
Well, there's definitely one thing I've learned here:

Well, this is an.. interesting view.
As someone who has made a rather concerted effort over the years to help as many players as possible, I obviously take issue with this stance. The DPS League shares all the information it finds on build effectiveness, tactics.. etc and posts it freely for anyone to take advantage of. You don't need to be a 'member' you don't need some secret login, it's all just freely posted for anyone that needs it. They even have a comment section to post totally anonymous questions if you feel the need.
The information is not hoarded as it is in many online games, it isn't given out only to a 'privileged few' and it doesn't require any type of membership. Personally, I don't have any type of 'membership,' I just put the banner in my sig to promote the good work that they do for the community. They even offer build advice for low budget and new players..that doesn't sound 'elitist' to me.
Over the years, I have made a concerted effort to help as many as I can. I have offered people build help, sample builds, ship and tactic advice.. I have invited people to my fleet to find help, flown with them and helped them.. even sent many new players ship weapons, credits, master keys, and other things to help them get started.
Other then complain about people like me, how much have you done to help new or struggling players? Believe it or not, I am not asking that to be snyde.. I don't want you to answer it publicly.. only to yourself. Before you judge the actions of others, be sure and take a good look inward my friend. You are incorrectly and harshly judging an entire group of players and perhaps you should ask yourself why that is.
If you wish a civil discourse on the issue, I am sure many of us would be willing to talk with you outside of this thread as to why you feel this way. I don't speak for the League, only for myself..but I for one have always been willing to help people when I can. I got where I am by asking for help and I was welcomed and treated with courtesy by those that offered me help. I have made every possible effort to offer the same treatment to others, as have many league players I have been fortunate enough to play with over the years.

Yea everybody knows there are no secrets in the league. There are however many secrets in the super-secret fleet of the league’s admin team! I have one toon of mine in it, undercover you know.
I’m not supposed to tell but there are ways to still level 17 times faster than anybody else in game, cheats to make you spacerich beyond imagination and solid plans for galaxy domination are stored and safeguarded inside.
I also know the DPS god gets very demanding above 666k DPS so they need to do some human sacrifice stuff on New Romulus at full moon every once in a while to appeal to him. You need to promise to keep it to yourself but I have been invited to the next ceremony and will tell you how it works out ok? I so want to be in the top five I would betray and kill anybody.

That could be easily avoided by introducing a simple mechanic that pretty much every other MMOs have: the vote kick.
Someone's being an TRIBBLE and not reviving? You start a vote kick, they get removed from the team and the rest get ressed automatically.
Of course, that would also mean putting in place a mechanic that let's you requeue to fill the vacant spot(s).
Again, this is something that's present pretty much everywhere. Why STO doesn't have it is beside me.
Still, if the injuriers system must absolutely stay in place, make it something that matters.
At the moment, it just means that someone doesn't know how to remove them or they simply don't give a TRIBBLE.
Not agreeing with someone doesn't give you the right to be an TRIBBLE.

Whether it be in-game or in real life, there are few higher references to one's character than to pass along knowledge in a field one is proficient in.
make healers a tiny bit more welcome in queues and make it possible to forcibly remove injuries from trolls
#LegalizeAwoo
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch."
"We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
that would be a good thing for sto.

I have made every possible effort to offer the same treatment to others, as have many league players I have been fortunate enough to play with over the years.
.
Oh, wait a minute, isn't the First Rule of the Elite DPS Club©®™, 'You do not talk about the Elite DPS Club©®™. (I've been told on good authority that is also the Second Rule).
l don't know.
l really don't know what l'm about to say, except l have a feeling about it.
That l must repeat the words that come without my knowledge.'

Your invite has been revoked for telling @ltminns since he was the one we had planned to sacrifice.
Nice going.

Ci sono tre tipi di giocatori:
- quelli a cui non va mai bene niente... e vanno sul forum a trollare;
- quelli che sono talmente imbesuiti da credere a qualunque cosa i dev dicano, perfino che la luna è fatta di formaggio... e vanno sul forum a trollare;
- quelli che credono a quello a cui è giusto credere, sono d'accordo con quello con cui è giusto essere d'accordo e sono critici con quello che non va;
