So you're the measuring stick then? Queue difficulty should be based on your personal skill level and the criteria for making sure it's an appropriate difficulty is that you succeed 100% of the time?
Precisely not what he said in any way. He stated flat out "if I can't winn 100 percent of the time it's too hard", which aside from being asinine defies the reality of video games all the way back to flipping Pong.
As I understand it, this key part here shows that the later reference to "100%" means that he's referring to a difficulty level of 100% not a success rate of 100%.
Okay, there was a serious failure to communicate properly on my part, I beg your pardon, I didn't make this clear.
First: the game I was talking about has a difficulty slider with names, but more commonly referred to by the difficulty settings of 25% (lowest) to 800%. It was not about completion percentage or similar (which is mostly binary in the game - you win or you lose, no bonus from overperforming save for a few campaign missions with a different gameplay).
More importantly, the "I" in "If I cannot complete it I'll throw a hissy fit" and similar wasn't meant to be "I, Xyquarze" but "I, the individual complaining about this game" which I, Xyquarze, was quoting. I understand that that was not clear from the way I phrased it and do totally agree with the "Wow just wow" or "asinine" statements, but that's what you got on the forums. Players complaining about not winning immediately off the bat at default level and instead of scaling it down complained that the game was too difficult, again because they thought that their ability was so great they would never be challenged by anything below the "100%" even if they don't know the mechanics of the game yet. I (Xyquarze) scaled it down right to 25% after the first troubles and learned to play the game better (still don't play it at 100% though).
Again, my apologies for stating this ambiguously.
My mother was an epohh and my father smelled of tulaberries
The thing I've noticed in other games (I don't parse in STO so I wouldn't know other people's DPS) is that people who are the vocal and rude about your performance, aren't that great themselves at best they're at low end of "elite DPS" but more often then not they're actually worse then average.
More often then not I've been yelled that my DPS is "the worst thing they've ever seen" (though typically not so politely) by people whose own DPS was actually worse and my DPS is lately been at 20k-30k due to me being rather rusty. The actual top DPS I've played with in STO have been one nicest people I've played with.
I can only underline what Sea said here Shim. Our PvE endeavors have always been successful and while your DPS numbers are not an issue to begin with you always offer reliability in team play which is the most important part. Simply put, you fit in.
But… in my case I noticed there is always room for improvement; for me, for you, for everybody! That’s the beauty of this game and where things like the Combat Log Reader can step in nicely. This tool was never meant to be used to just extract only the final figures of a run and throw em at the face of clueless pugs in team chat. The data STO offers from matches is massive and the tool puts it entirely into context. With it you can decrypt to the second of a PvE what has been going on, which item of a build contributes to what and if the respective tooltip of it in game was even remotely fitting.
We know each other for half a decade now mate. I became to respect you as a bright guy who always likes to go into detail. Installing and maintaining it would be mega easy for you. Reading it a bit harder but you would figure it out in no time and could use the data to benefit you and your team. And DPS is just the tip of the iceberg here. Heals, de-buffs, all in.
For me CLR was also the #1 defense tool to never become an elitist by the way. I mean you see the chasms between what plays (all) talk in chat or in forums compared to what they actually contribute in game in a millisecond and simply ignore it going forward. It helped me to concentrate on the positive and productive aspects of my own playstyle entierly and it will surely help me to never have to become somebody who feels the need to compare other’s chosen playstyle with people who have HIV.

Maybe I’m just getting paired with who don’t have great equipment and or stats. So to make myself better, what weapons, consoles, etc. should I have equipped?
On PC the PvE population feels so low that I doubt any mix and match system actually works. Depending on what time you play you can be lucky that a run starts after a minute or two. No idea how things look on console.
The STO League has always been kind to me as to show what stuff to get and what can be left out. For every preferred playstyle there are ways to min/max you to the point where in advanced runs you never have to “worry” about your team-mates ever again.
If you like make a thread in the Academy section of STO forums and we can help you to tune you starship build depending on any preference of yours. Getting a new ship is easy, making a good build for it takes time but is worth it.

Please forgive me for pointing this out, but you are exactly the problem.
"I'll assess the team"...then don't play the bloody random queues. You TRIBBLE over the other players without a thought because it's not an efficient use of your time? It's a damned game, you won't get paid in cash you'll get some imaginary baubles, if you get slightly less for just playing the game and not TRIBBLE other players over then you should grow up and play the game or get over yourself and play by yourself or pick a queue to play.
The other players TRIBBLE over him as well if they enter an advanced match and have neither a clue as what to do or bring builds that are hardly cutting it. Staying under such circumstances is a curtesy which pretty much depends on the current mood as well as past experiences. It is nothing that should be taken for granted.
It is sometimes fascinating what general expectations some of the players in this title build up towards more experienced team mates not to mention DPSer. If I throw all that I can read in these forums in a bag something like…
“You better make up for my lack of contribution without moaning but don’t dare to be too good or I judge you to be an elitist using meta builds that should be avoided like HIV.”
…comes to mind. Yea, no problem! That's why I signed up.

People leave because they queue rTFO and the random roll is a queue they do not like. Or they see Captain 50 Injuries and don't want to carry him.
With disco marks making it into the regular mark choice alternatives the pressure on rTFOs might decrease slowly.
One thing cryptic could start to penalize is troll seeding. People intentionally queueing up a really TRIBBLE TFO to pull some randoms in and then decline to join. Then immediately queue up again to pull in some more suckers.

That's a pretty broad assumption. Most players (most, not all...I don't know for sure) don't join a tfo to be carried, they join to play. Any player good or bad who quits makes it harder on the team and is just being rude and thoughtless. You want to whine about other players fine, let them know after the match what they could have done better. Yes, some players will enter an advanced queue under gunner or with no idea what they're doing...maybe they're doing it on purpose or maybe it's their first time. But how does that make it alright for others to bail because they judge others unworthy before the game starts or they deem the queue not worth their precious time? As players we should be respectful of other players and if you see someone struggling then talk to them...maybe they are new to the level...if they turn down help then no biggie, if they take it then next time the queues will be the better for it. The sense of entitlement that I sometimes see amongst the 'experienced' players that others need to be up to their standards at all times or they must be expecting to be carried....or that the tfo must be exactly optimised for rewards vs time or it's not worth them staying in it just boggles my mind. It's a game. If the queue isn't exactly optimised you lose what? A few minutes during which you're still playing a fun game.
As far as I'm concerned if you feel that you can simply bail on a tfo because you judge others unworthy at the start or it's not your optimal time/reward match then you shouldn't be playing...I'd rather have some new player in starter gear at my side because at least they might try.
Maybe people do Advavced because it rewards a reputation item in some TFOs.
I didn’t start with advanced. I played on normal until they became too easy for me. Now I play all TFOs on advanced and can “pull my own weight”. At least I like to think I can. Usually lasting without dying. The TFOs to which I am referring, alway take about an hour, longer when players quit, I would just like the difficulty to be the same across all TFO. Example (not actual game play): If a Borg ship, let’s say a sphere, can be destroyed with six shots (Advanced) in one TFO, the same type of sphere should only take six shot in all Borg TFOs. I am saying that some Advanced TFOs seem easy and some difficult. I don’t rate difficulty on whether or not I die, but on how long it takes to defeat one enemy in the TFO. The Borg in Reconnected seem easier to defeat than the the Borg in Conduit.
People leave because they queue rTFO and the random roll is a queue they do not like. Or they see Captain 50 Injuries and don't want to carry him.
Very true, this behavior is inherent in players of all skill levels. Some people here however, insist on trying to make it a witch hunt purely against one type of player either 'n00b' or 'DPS God' alike.
Everyone is so busy pushing the blame on anyone that plays differently from them that they have totally lost track of the real issue. There are certain queues that people tend to always bail on.. instead of looking at those specific queues and asking why this content is so undesirable.. lets all waste time instead blaming anyone that doesn't play a certain way even though it has absolutely nothing to do with the actual issue.
I knew it would go this way as soon as I read the first post.
The reason I no longer do RTFO's is that simply put.. there are too many queues that I don't like. Either they take too long, they're horribly under rewarding, or some combination of both. I tend to take napalm's strategy, I queue for specific queues and usually pick ones I know I can solo if everyone decides to bail on me. What I don't do is queue random and then bail, I just queue for what I want and let the people that do queue RTFO fill in the rest of the team.
Anymore, I only queue for content with fleet mates. That way if the pugs leave, I don't really care because I know that I am with others that can still finish the queue. I liked the RTFO system at first, but ultimately, it really underscored to me how many queues in this game are just generally undesirable to play.
Sorry for the above, but this kind of behaviour is just one of those very few things that triggers me every time.
Oh no need to be sorry.
I agree with most of what you say. For me personally this very dilemma was the #1 reason to sign up with the DPS crowds (after that more reason followed that were motivated in respect and friendship towards the leagues administration). I did not want to assess my friends, fleet mates or anybody else for that matter. I just want to play and have fun.
Was a long journey for me now, almost four years, but thanks to constant min maxing and taking tons of power creep I grew so OP now that I almost never have to care with whom I play an advanced map ever again if it is just about completing. Still for those who are not in such a position there always remain two sides of the coin to consider:
Leaving a team is wrong but joining a team you can’t help is too.
One wants to optimize his rewards by assessing a team, the other one wants rewards he does not deserve.
I cannot give you a clear judgment here as I don’t have it. That’s why I simply chose to DPS this dilemma away and thank the game for giving this option.

I want to enjoy the game not have to slog it out through a 10 min TFO that turns into 30 plus mins and i'm doing the work of 2-3 players because the other players are undergeared or not good enough for that level.
Been there far too often and therefore why should my fun be spoilt because player xyz jumped into the deep end of the pool and can't swim. Selfishness swings both ways.
I've also been on the receiving end of players leaving RTFO's because they don't like the map, Usually anything ground Borg mainly. Again I will bail on Manus if the final room is a complete cluster TRIBBLE and buying the winning lotto ticket is more likely to happen than finish that TFO
I'd happily skip Terok Nor as the number of halfwits in the final stage that drag Leeta everywhere but to the plates is dam frustrating and unhelpful.
Best one is Khitomer Space where probes are ignored and then once the optional fails you end up with 3 players suddenly deciding to play gatekeeper and stop probes when its already to late

It's entirely OK to not want to play all of the queues...but in that case you simply shouldn't queue random.
It has been my opinion from the start that if you leave an RTFO without at least trying to finish it, it should go on account-wide cooldown for an extended period of time. Let peeps who want to pick their queue do so honestly instead of abusing the random by repeatedly leaving until they get what they want.
This is the quote I was responding to. I don't know where you got that other one.
"The very fact that I am not winning at 100% doesn't mean I should play a lower difficulty setting, it means the game is too hard"
All other quotes are irrelevant to my response.
Azrael, as usual you failed to read an entire post and failed to understand it. Read the entire quote I posted and you'll see that your own quote here is within it and, with the correct context, it does not say what you claim it does. Here's the entire quote for you again including your own cherry picked out of context quote of his post.
But think about "They are Billions", a recent game (if you don't include early access time) which was lambasted by many for being too difficult on the default "100%" level. Yeah, so? There's three levels below that. Start on 25%, get a feel for the game, you can switch to any other difficulty later. But no, the lowest levels are for n00b players and we have played RTS/Tower Defence/City Builders before, so we don't need it. The very fact that I am not winning at 100% doesn't mean I should play a lower difficulty setting, it means the game is too hard.
A word of advice, Az. Read everything so you don't go off half-cocked. The 100% here clearly refers to the listed difficulty setting within the game he's talking about. It does not reflect a complaint of not being able to win 100% of the time.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

Salazarraze got that from the person's actual post, in which it was clear that the poster was referring to a difficulty-level setting in another game (whose players complained because they couldn't win every time with difficulty set to 100%). You cherry-picked a sentence fragment from that, reinterpreted it to suit yourself, and are now arguing with a straw man you yourself built and stuffed. Enjoy that. The rest of us will presumably be over there, talking about the actual issues at hand.
(This has, however, inspired me to try getting into more TFOs, just to see how they go. I finally got around to the defense of Starbase One TFO, and my little tier-one-version Walker acquitted herself pretty well, I thought. Did appreciate the heal beams from one of the higher-level characters, though.)

I have done no such thing. I responded to the quote of another person who quoted that. I did not see any other quotes that even involved that statement. I have no interest in straw man TRIBBLE. I responded to the only quote I saw, I cherry picked nothing. If anyone cherry picked a damn thing it was the poster who I got the quote from. Which was seaofsorrows, so take up any discussion of cherry picking with him.
You failed to do your due diligence, Az. After I read sea's post, I wanted to ensure that @xyquarze actually said what was quoted because frankly I couldn't believe that someone would so brazenly make that statement. That's why I went back and read his entire post before going off half-cocked and blasting him. Even after I provided the ENTIRE quote for you, you still ignored it and continued to post out of context information so you are completely at fault here. Stop blaming others for your own short comings. Make sure you read EVERYTHING so you don't make such an embarrassing mistake again.

He's right, it was my fault, which is why I apologized. No need to pile on Az here, this wasn't his fault.. even after the explanation, I still don't really understand the original post so I should not have replied to what I thought it said. I should have instead asked for clarification before responding.
What he did or didn't say after I incorrectly responded is irrelevant because I started it. I admit when I am wrong, and this is one of those times.

People shouldn't be playing on advanced when they are not even cutting it on normal. Maybe its cryptics fault for not given the token on normal but if i see people in my team have a ton of injuries and don't even have the courtesy to repair themselfs, yeah you can see me making a free spot for somebody who wants to play with guys like that. The sad part about it is i get the 30 minutes penalty, not that i care much with 50+ chars.
On ground somebody had 29 injuries i asked him why he doesn't go to see the doctor he said he didn't choose to play ground. We waited so before we started the mission until he left cause the 4 of us did refuse to play with this guy. I don't invest time and money to accommodate other random players, especially if they are to lazy to figure out how this game works. There is plenty of material out there, invest 30 minutes of reading and you most of what you need to know.
Which fun is more worth the random dudes fun who doesn't invest time in order to be able to play on advanced or the fun of a player who actually invested alot of time and research in order to get where he is. There is not good solution for this problem unless we go back to the good old days and have people get gear checked by the system in order to play on advanced.

You can ignore those people, I have flown with you.. your DPS is fine. You contribute and help the team, not much more you can ask for.
Yes I know I can ignore those people and I know my DPS is good enough for most TFOs, however my point was there's a rather strong correlation between people holding other players to unrealistic DPS standards and not actually being able to fullfill those same standards themselves, meaning most people who demanded super DPS from me were full of hot air themselves.

I know that and honestly me parsing was never about not being able to, but rather not wanting to for me being able to do the content and having fun is enough. Sure if someone else did the parse I don't mind it but it's not important for me, for me what's important is playing a game based on one of my favorite TV series from my childhood and having fun with it.

Here's the thing though... it doesn't always open a free slot for someone else. Get far enough in... you don't get someone to replace someone who drops out. There is no way to join an in progress TFO anymore.
As for the injuries... if they have so many that all you have to do is look at them and they explode... 9 times out of 10 I'd say that is a Troll. The last remaining 1 is either someone who doesn't know how to heal injuries at all or they are a HARDCORE RPer who feels that they need these to show an extended deployment, but mostly just someone who doesn't know.
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
Passion and Serenity are one.
I gain power by understanding both.

I am a shadow, darkness born from light.
The Force is united within me.
And that's what I think too. Anyone who thinks that many injuries is a good thing is crazy. I don't care if its for RP reasons.
Most ships have sickbay anyway and if your character has several major concussion and internal bleeding they're probably not fit for duty no matter how hardcore RPer you are.
Same with the ships most of our missions are within Alliance space or close enough to it that you have no real excuse for your ship having enough injuries that if STO showed injuries as damage on the ship model that ship should look like the NX-01 after Azati Prime mission but before the crew did emergency repairs, RP would be to repair those "injuries" ASAP.

“You better make up for my lack of contribution without moaning but don’t dare to be too good or I judge you to be an elitist using meta builds that should be avoided like HIV.”
…comes to mind. Yea, no problem! That's why I signed up.

Hello rubber banding my old friend, time to bounce around the battlezone again, where are all my bug reports going?, out of love with this game I am falling, As Cryptic fail to acknowledge a problem exists, Shakes an angry fist, And from Support all I'm hearing are the sounds of silence.
l don't know.
l really don't know what l'm about to say, except l have a feeling about it.
That l must repeat the words that come without my knowledge.'
It has been my opinion from the start that if you leave an RTFO without at least trying to finish it, it should go on account-wide cooldown for an extended period of time. Let peeps who want to pick their queue do so honestly instead of abusing the random by repeatedly leaving until they get what they want.
Azrael, as usual you failed to read an entire post and failed to understand it. Read the entire quote I posted and you'll see that your own quote here is within it and, with the correct context, it does not say what you claim it does. Here's the entire quote for you again including your own cherry picked out of context quote of his post.
A word of advice, Az. Read everything so you don't go off half-cocked. The 100% here clearly refers to the listed difficulty setting within the game he's talking about. It does not reflect a complaint of not being able to win 100% of the time.
(This has, however, inspired me to try getting into more TFOs, just to see how they go. I finally got around to the defense of Starbase One TFO, and my little tier-one-version Walker acquitted herself pretty well, I thought. Did appreciate the heal beams from one of the higher-level characters, though.)
#LegalizeAwoo
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch."
"We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
That's basically what I was thinking when I read that.
