    Small carrier handling tip

If you have space, try to find some way to have a trajector jump power on your carrier - As a carrier jockey knows, even if you turn, momentum and inertia will set you into a power slide which is useful but a pain if you misstime it

Where does the jump come in? It teleports you forward but what they don't tell you is it cancels inertia/momentum and works not by travel direction but where you ship is pointed

So in a powerslide all one needs to do is turn the ship to the heading and hit jump - you'll jump forward and continue in a straight line, allowing a carrier pilot to perform some extremely unexpected turning manuevers and prevent some of a carrier pilots most common piloting mistakes

So it's essentially like a ship version of the combat roll trick for the winter race?

More or less you could consider it as so.. its a useful trick for thowing off bobs, ect too

I just love that video that could just so be a intro to a star trek show :):)
Please dont make jokes. At least use a beautiful ship, not that monstruosity called jupiter carrier.

Compared with some of the more recent ships (MW's for example) she's a pin up model.

But is certainly not the prettiest ship to look at.

wow just wow, so i love my jupiter, i respecced, got me some prt gens and some control so i can use grav well 3 to to group mods together, and using crf to proc the 2 traits, the best thing ive ever seen 4 elite calistos firing quad cannons with CRF so brilliant!!! so now gonna make sure i get the cd to global so i can have it constantly up
  • chrisevans34chrisevans34 Member Posts: 260 Arc User
and.... I just realised bout what someone said to me only some pets are worth it, if they have cannons not so worth it, being as they AI they dont think properly, and with DHC/quads, the need to always be facing the enemy, the last run i did they barley did this and quite few times they simply didnt wanna engage in battle
  • postagepaidpostagepaid Member Posts: 2,899 Arc User
You've seen both sides of the cannon pet!

When they work its pretty great but when they don't it's very obvious.

Sadly for the jupiter there's not really a beam frigate option. Something I'd like to see is the choice to purchase cannon or beam pets with rapidfire or overload, scatter or fire at will as the abilities linked in.

Or even simpler make pets unlocked by the player usable in carriers they own with frigate or fighter being the restriction.

Callisto escorts don't need to be facing the enemy to fire, their turrets are 360 degree weapons.

The Jupiter is cool looking and Beautiful (the playable version, not that old clunker).

And the key to the Callistos Damage is its Torpedo spread.

I actually like the unplayable version.

All variants of the Callisto have but one single Aft Phaser Turret.

All of it's other weapons (Quad Cannon, Heavy Cannon, and Quantum Torpedoes) face forward only.

This is the problem with the Callisto, they often lag behind or turn too slowly to bring 90% of their firepower around to face the target.

If a Callisto isn't facing it's target, it's doing nothing.
    Insert witty signature line here.

Was messing about in the undie battlezone with my t'laru and docking commands and it occured to me that they launch out the front but try and dock in the back.

Gave a dock order and slapped the ship into reverse so they moved to the front and hey presto they all obeyed.

    And not just once either.

Kind of helps prove my theory that the docking point is a specific part of the ship itself so if that was moved outside the model docking issues could well be solved without needing to poke the ai into a worse state. Wouldn't look out of too place either since the ships simply despawn rather than fly inside.

Callistos, if they can be bothered to fire the torps they do.......ok.

Compared to Romulan drones on the Scimmies they are complete and total garbage. They'd have more damage output if I fired them from the torp tubes. Or even the entry level Kelvin drones for that matter are vastly superior.

No more pets with cannons plz cryptic, or make them smarter. I leave that decision to you.

It's a pretty crappy choice of omni-directional weapon, but it's still a weapon that can fire back. I'd prefer an omni-directional beam or a conventional aft beam/torpedo combo, but it at least causes some damage.

well early days testing with this carrier, thing is im not a sci guy so its different for me, using grav well 3 to group them together, but this carrier and pets dont seem that great atm. and the pets are a real pain in the TRIBBLE, they really dont like fighting at all, so many times ive found them just idling around not doing anything, CRYPTIC get this sorted man i love my carriers so much.

The drones are ok as they seem to have FaW for the full 60seconds and due to lasting 60 seconds have a 50% uptime.
As for the drones themselves they are more defensive then offensive as they stay close to your ship. The consoles is also nice as it helps turn rate and boosts my other pets nicely when run alongside Coordinated Assault with Dominion Coordination.

defo think what some u guys have said about allowing us to slot more hangar pets in place of weapons, just look at the Universe class and the kdf/rom versions these are meant to be HUGE ships, ive seen some people refer to them as mobile bases, now i think they sud be super tanky, a really large hull 100K start off and easily 6 hangar bays and less weapons! wud be fun to see that work :smiley:

Although the pets with these heavy dreadnoughts are not great, ok the kdf and rom look pretty nice, but the fed ones are rather rubbish looking, wud like it to look like a "tough little ship"
    Imagine defiant class frigates hehehe

Well I have scaled back. It was fun flying a full themed Carrier build but they are weak in comparison, so I have gone back to hybrid Carrier. Kept Wing Commander and Scramble Fighters but other pet doffs and traits are so weak I swapped them out for more useful things. Ended up boosting my mines as they work better than the other pet boosts.

There is nothing wrong with a full themed Carrier build it works and is viable its just massively weaker then a hybrid build.

Would love a Elachi carrier next as the pets look really good! :)

Elachi ships don't include a full carrier, unless one got snuck in somewhere.

Their dread has a single hangar for frigate but its one of those that if you happen to want the frigate pet you need to also have the escort.

It does however have the seperation console for a whole new experience of ineptitude (or cowardice due to how often it simply decides to rejoin you for no reason) with pet ai and there's another elachi console that summons a couple of support ships similar to the pirate summon from the numbus arc.

My favourite of the (crossfaction) lockbox carriers is probably the xindi narcine, looks good and handles well, not tried the t6 version and sadly they remove the t5 from infinity boxes. The vonph is worth a look although again have to buy the escort as well for frigate pets but the ship trait is really nice. Sphere builder again needs escort purchase but it also has temporal abilities on top of the usual subsystem.

Really not a fan of having to buy a redundant ship to unlock a pet but at the same time am amazed that they've not carried that over into the umpteen cstore escorts for coaxing sales from those that simply don't find those ships fun.

I am hoping for a Carrier Flagship bundle, with different designed Carriers. I am not referring to the Jupiter Carrier, but completely new streamlined designs.

Heck they could even use the runner up submissions who competed against the Jupiter design as different class carriers

[If anyone has a picture of those concept designs, please post them - I would love to see them again] Referring to the Alpha, Beta, Gamma designs of the Federation Carriers.

I don't mind new concept designs based off the original KDF Carrier for the KDF - and Roms can get totally cool designed Carriers.

fromthe back looks bit like voyager.

i think, again once they have the time, completely revisit carriers, give them a proper overhaul and make them more reliant on PETS, where most dmg would come from the pets not the ship, and lets us use more than 2 hangar bays, or increase the amount of pets that can be launched from a single hangar. just somat that would make using a carrier unique. Like science ships, most dmg wud prob come from sci magic, tact from weapons. (now im not saying this is 100% accurate) but you get the idea. The devs have given us revamped on several aspects of the game so far so i think they sud look at carriers next.

As Captain Kirk once said: TRIBBLE. Mass approval does not equate to quality. Otherwise McDonald's would be delicious, and Nickleback would be good music.
