Or hack you account, and buying from an unauthorised vendor is in breach of ToS and you risk having your account stolen and/or blocked.

Old news, I'm afraid. These kinds of things have been going on forever in F2P MMO's. It's almost impossible to get rid of them permanently since they can just create (or otherwise aquire) a new account when their current one gets banned.

    It's unfortunate, but enevitable.

My advice is to just delete the messages as soon as you get one. :/

This is the first time I seen third party vendors target players in game. I been playing Star Trek online since 2012 so it's not old news to me.

Yeah, its unfortunate for the poor guy who ends up falling for these scams. There really no reason to buy master keys and lockbox ships from third party vendors.

That what I did. I report the email as spam and put the person on my list. Hopefully Cryptic does something about it.

You tend to get a spam mail from them at least once a week i find these days. Just ignore it and delete as soon as you see it.

Never go near those sites and certainly don't even consider buying from them.

The only marginally positive side to all this is that the game must be seen as profitable to them or they wouldn't bother, so that probably means the game is pretty healthy right now. They wouldn't waste their time on a dying game.

If you've been here since 2012 and never saw the gold spammers you should immediately go buy as many lottery tickets as possible because you have the world's most amazing luck. They are all over the place every day, and I've been here since f2p launch. I've run into them in every mmo I have ever played.

You misread what I wrote in my previous post "I say in game" I knew there were gold spammers in STO but they were easy to ignore until now. The guy I was talking about was using the server to send out emails to every single player in the game. I eventually end up putting the game on my ignore list and report him to Cryptic.

Anyway I don't know why you guys are arguing with me. You people are acting like spammers are a okay thing to have in STO. Just because they appear in every mmo doesn't mean we should have to tolerate them here. Scamming people for their money is a big no-no in my book.

I really don't care if you see Gold Spammers day in and day out. What I care about is how gold spammers are using the game server to spam players inbox. I'm worry that some poor soul might end up falling for the dude scam. That why I create the thread in the first place.

Sooo...? What is the news here?

No seriously... add the news... ADD THEM... !!! COME ON...!!!

    Sorry...
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

A lot of poor souls fall for it all the time. That's how the spammers stay in business. Nothing you can do about it but report the spam and move on.

The next time I seen this email I report it and let customer service know about it.

"Gold Sellers" trying to take advantage of players. Been dealing with the occasional e-mail since I started playing. A bit more so when we went F2P. But nothing the "Report Spam" button can't fix, at least in making you feel better.

The only thing I'm arguing is your obviously false statement that you have never seen them before, unless you have kept your chat window closed since you started playing, and never used the in game mail even once. As for the spammers themselves, the fact they are in every game, including games with much greater budget & resources than STO should illustrate that there is very little that can be done to get rid of them. So when you see them, click report spam and move on.

I can't believe you've never seen this before. I get 3-4 a week, even on alts I rarely play.

Azrael605 was making a pretty reasonable statement I thought to be honest.
I personally find that I get more of them in the KDF side. I guess thats a smaller lottery to "win" perhaps.
I've never used one, dont want to, if I cant get it in game I dont get it. I do however feel bad for those new to MMOs who fall foul of such things. And they are an ever present metaphoric wart on the buttocks of MMO gameplay. But like anything, it's easily ignored really. Its two clicks to delete the mails.
It is irksome, but it's one of those things that only collective ignorance of such people can really defeat, they remain in business for a reason sadly.
Just ignore/report,it's your only option really, though I get your annoyance its not THAT bad in the grand scheme of things.

I've seen this frequently since the game launched, and before that I saw it countless times in WoW, SWG, and every other MMO I've played.

It's also not necessarily a scam (though it can be), but more importantly it's strictly forbidden in all MMO's TOS, and to purchase currency from such sites would put your account in great risk of a perma-ban. Best thing to do is just report every email you get line that, though chances are the gold seller's spam account has already been banned by the time you even see the email yourself.

I was talking about third party websites like player auctions. I heard a lot of bad things from people who try to sell items on that website. I am aware that there are gold spammers in the game. But most of them appear in the game chat channel. You can easily ignore them by turning off the chat in game.

You can report the mail as spam/junk, but I have my doubts that it'll do any good. I just delete them and move on, 2 seconds and done. :)

Honestly, I can't recall seeing them in chat channels. Getting spam mails in the in-game mailbox? That's been happening for ages. It's why the "Report Spam" button is there.

The "Report Spam" button is about useful as a Ferengi trader. It just best to delete the email and move on. There really not much people can do when this happen.

I've seen it in chat all the time since I started playing about three or so years ago. I also get emails from them and any time I see them I report them as spam. You can do so in the chat (right click>report spam). They immediately go to your ignore list and whether Cryptic does anything about them is debatable.

I don't wanna get rid of spam, it makes tasty sandwiches and is good in grits with cheese and other stuff :p
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

I've been playing since 2010 and I never got in-game spam mail. Then one day a couple months ago, I changed my visibility to "visible to all". Since then, I get one every couple of days.
