You don't shoot things during the trench run. You cloak, hit any speed boosts you have and race to the end ASAP. Destroying hardpoints just slows down the mission.
I've never really been of the opinion that content exists in the game with the intended purpose to be skipped by all players.
If they put it in the game, then somebody somewhere intended for it to be used by the players. Workarounds and bypassing are all well and good, but they're just that, workarounds and bypasses.
I personally don't find it very much fun to simply fly through the trench run not doing anything just to get to the rally site/breach point. It's boring.
You exit the same way you go in. Basically, turn around and hightail it out.
Also, if you notice on the loading screen, it says The Breach [Event Version], so it would indeed seem we'll get the old version for the queue.

Well, congratulations to the team... You managed to make me want to do the daily on all my main characters as opposed to painfully finishing it on one only. Good job!
I know, right? With 10 toons this is much more manageable than with say Mirror Invasion, which would take 3 hours to run through ten times per day

At the moment I'm not ready to call it that. Old version was pulled from normal rotation because people complained about how long it was. Then it became and event queue and people still complained about the length. Its possible that we'll keep this shortened version, but certain things will just be turned off like Crystalline. Then they flip a switch when its time for the event and boom! Event version. Maybe Crystalline will say the same thing when it rolls around.
Lets just wait and see what it looks like after the event's over before saying what we'll get.
I just ran this on a couple of alts. It's quick enough but pretty much boring and the reward/time ratio is still bad. R/T ratio being poor is expected from Cryptic so, I can't really hold it against this event. They took out the only parts of the mission that were fun for me. I would have done something different with it. Like, started the team at the door with the explanation "The ship is vulnerable because we can open this door" type of thing, then go to the hanger, the big ship hanger, and then the main core room (which I don't care for but is the point of the mission). It might have been a little longer that way but much more fun.
Well to be fair, he's wrong. The nodes in the "Trench Run" are enemies and objectives to shoot at. The final room with the big spinning top is also an enemy to shoot at.
Anyways, I do feel bad for the guys that looked at the even picture in the launcher and thought "T6 Bulwark!"
I wish after all these years that people would learn not to shoot the fake cores, but that's not on the dev team.
This is still the most irritating part of the Breach for me. Maybe they could change it so that the damage from blowing up a fake core only effects the ship(s) that actually attack it?
"There will never be enough blood to wash away my need for vengeance! A single world...I could destroy a million worlds and it would not be enough! Your existence is an insult to the memory of my people! I will continue my fight, even if I must fight alone!"
The Breach is back - so what do you think? Are you having fun? Is it working correctly? Let us know here!
I was excited for my first run revisiting the giant voth ship! But then STO happened.
And so, in my very first run of this event, I get stuck INSIDE of one of the pillars in the core room.
I was pretty useless from that point on.
Jeezus how long has this damn getting stuck in suns/walls/railings TRIBBLE been around and its still not fixed??
What do I think? Fix your mess.
Am I Having fun? Not yet.
Is it working correctly? /facepalm No, it is not.
Ran it with guns, ran it with faw. Faw works better.
DEVS - you almost killed me with that "turn around to get out" business. Fortunately, I have about a zillion hours of space combat flight sim experience, so you failed.
I like the new look & the new brevity. I'd like to suggest you use the original as a template for a storyline quest in the Voth series. It seems a shame to discard all of it. This mission is a good follow on to a rescue or mapping mission in the work up to the actual "raid" conducted in the event.
I like the shortened length, it's more alt friendly and less time consuming now, especially as I am doing it on 4 characters a day.
The reward is awesome, I like my melee weapons.
However, since the previous two events didn't clarify that the reward was per account, I am wanting to know if the Furiadon Fangs are per character or an account unlock.
How do we skip the trench run though and go directly to the interior?
I haven't worked that part out yet.
I always see a few players, usually three members of the team go straight for the trench run and start shooting whatever is in there.
Only once so far have I seen another player try to turboboost through the trench to get to the next stage faster.

I like it the way it is now. I also liked it the way it was before, as blowing up the giant dreadnought in the tractor beam chamber was quite satisfying. Admittedly I was looking forward to cooking the thing inside its shields with Temporal space magic, but this is a definite improvement to the event as a whole.
My point of view is that of someone who plays several characters without choosing a single "main" to get all goodies on and do all events with. This means I'll never bother with lockbox ships or lobi gear until such time as they become account unlocks. I loathe the stupid winter run yet I did it both this year and last year - because account unlocks. Mirror Invasion with its horrible timegate is the only event I refuse to do. Last year I didn't do Breach, mostly because I was taking a break from STO during that time. Now? In its shortened state, it's tolerable for alt-a-holics. Did it on most of my 60s yesterday without suffering any burnout symptoms. Will do again today and speed through the trench run this time.
Really, I can understand the view that oversimplifying queues leads to mindless shootfests. There's a place for difficult content, but that place is not in "forcibly" repeatable events. Miners Elite is one of my favorite queues, yet I would hate to play that daily on several alts just to qualify for shinies. I ended up loving Sompek, yet I would have loathed having to get vouchers on each and every alt daily. More on this point later.
The new Breach is nice because it rewards crafty players who pay attention. Trench run is fun by its very nature; the ability to skip the shooty bits does nothing to diminish it for me. Dreadnought... I miss you, but not all that much. The shell game rewards players for not being morons, which is good. Power core chamber can teleport and disorient and generally requires some attention to do properly. Sure, you can just sit there and FAW away and get it done, but it gets done that much smoother by navigating the shields. Main challenges here are perception and navigation rather than shooting. It's different. Quick enough, enjoyable enough.
It's possible to both eat the cake and have it left, when it comes to events. How about this: completing the event reputation project makes the shiny an account unlock. All your current and future alts get Furiadon Fangs in the event store. But wait, all your current alts can also do the event for 50k dil and a bunch of marks! Everyone wins, no? Less event fatigue, fewer mandatory attendance alts and more player satisfaction. The metrics gods can be sated without the brutal human sacrifice of the events past.
When events like this come along there's part of me that wishes they'd take the time to sort out something interesting and/or fun for the winter event rather than that awful running race.
Would prefer is the weapon itself was a account wide unlock. But as far as the breach goes, I'm not overly fond of it. There really was no need for the briefing time to slow it down, and to grind it on alts makes it even less desirable. Overall though, it is nice to see it shortened.
Very easy, short, boring. Half of the time I'm cloaked flying through a map.
Hopefully the original version will be what we get back after the event finishes. I don't mind the cut down version if it's event only, but the original "The Breach" had to be the best space queue in the game (though with atrocious rewards for the time and effort spent).
Now, serious question - Why are there air currents moving around the Voth Citadel? It made sense when it was in an atmosphere, but now it's in space.
Not bad.
And even without reading the notes, I did tell the original version will be back at some point since [event version] was shown in the upper right corner of the loading screen.
When the original comes back, please use the visuals this one has, as in set in space, rather than the sphere. the visuals were gorgeous on this new one

^This. The new map backdrop is nice, but put it back in the Dyson Sphere, please. That's where we're fighting the Voth. Our conflict with the Voth stems from trying to control the Omega particles.

I guess as an event mission its good, nice and short so people don't mind doing it 14 times for the reward. However, I still think you should find some way of letting cannon/torpedo ships feel useful during the trench run. Maybe have a few hard-points that are tougher than the others and highlight then so that cannon ships can run strait at them. Also, personally I think you should bring back all 5 lanes, but for the event have the turrets be easier. If there's a beam a cruiser out in front in the trench run, the rest of the team most likely will have nothing to do.

It's not an air current. It's apparently part of the Voth engines.
I really like this version and the ship looks way better in space. I do however prefer the original version and I hope they re-release it!
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
I think it's no longer possible to achieve a full 100% on the "assault exterior" objective due to the shortened path. We tried it 5 times so far and we never got above 69%.
Yeah, I think they either need to add more hardpoints along the first part of the trench run or give the existing hardpoints more weight toward that goal.
I wish after all these years that people would learn not to shoot the fake cores, but that's not on the dev team.

Yes please, and apply the damage and debuff instantly (right now there's a few second delay). Maybe then people will figure out they shouldn't attack the one labeled "Subpower core?"
I like the event it is simple and easy for anyone to do. My problem is the silly long 30 minute cooldown time. Why is it that long? Stopping people who like the event from having fun playing it over and over again. Gives people a reason to shut down the game and walk away, instead playing it and having fun.
I like the new format. Its pretty smooth going and isnt too rediculously long that i wont do it on all 3 of my "main" chars. Only gripe and it doesnt really matter is heading down to the first core room i always almost go through the red door thats straight away instead of banging a right to enter the room
It's a little to Deathstar for my taste, we are suppose to be a group of intergalactic explorers, forging an alliance with every race we encounter, by blowing up their floating cities one ship at a time? So whats another 1 to 5 million Dino-humanoids? Why disable a ship when you can blow it up?
Don't get me wrong I like the shortened path, less time for equal reward, a good thing. Changing it up every year is a good thing as well, variety is good. Flying a ship into another ship is novel as well. Blowing up a giant piece of dilithium, to knock of a million humanoids, meh.

partially, just event burnout, partially its just not that fun

Because of it I will participate in the event with three instead of only one character of mine.
Account wide main rewards (of course not the dil and marks) should be something to be considered in the future.
STO is a beautiful game again and those “play the same maps 14 times in a row but with 20h in between” does not do it justice.
