I notice you left out a game currency. Why did you leave one out?

My point stands, if you want the ship so bad, earn it like everyone else did.

Paying for it isn't earning either, Earning a ship in STO usually means doing some grind for 25 days and then turning in the whatevers into the even rep project that goes with it and getting it.

Last I checked this was not some event ship, its a random chance give away ship you get from luck or finding someone who will sell it to you, which is more luck all things considered.

so you are saying that they should have given away THE MOST REQUESTED AND PROFITABLE SHIP FOR FREE.

I want to pay for it with zen.

I just don't that idiotic argument about earning stuff in a video game the entitled idiots usually use to lord over people who have lives becuase they think them being lucky somehow means they have uber skills.

To earn something you have to complete a task or achieve a goal to earn.

    1. Is it obtainable in game. By completing missions, a series of task, or a goal. - No
    2. Is it obtainable through game currency. Like zen, lobi, or Dil. - No

So going by this, it meets none of the said requirements of usual methods to earn something in game or using the game. From Cryptic own blog on it. Chance to win an all new 23rd Century Tier 6 Starship! Oh look there, Chance. There for you going by luck. Not by earning. So basically play our game, throw lots and lots of $ at it. In hopes you win! This is not earning nothing. This is like you working for me for a year. Each week there will be 52 sealed letters. One is your week's pay. So go have fun and pick one out per week. Good luck you earned it. And I will make lots of money off your labor.

I notice you left out a game currency. Why did you leave one out?

My point stands, if you want the ship so bad, earn it like everyone else did.

Because the ship is rare and desirable, you'll have a great sense of accomplishment when you earn it.

You can't earn it, that is the point. Everyone who got it, didn't earn it. They got lucky by chance. Even Cryptic themselves said it was a chance to win. Not to earn. And no its not an accomplishment when you pay ridiculous prices.

You really don't understand what earning something really means.

Please calm down and be civil.

Then don't use the entitled "Elite STFer" argument on why STF gear shouldn't be grindable in a manner that isn't hope you get the drop.

Because thats where that particular argument came from.

Actually, I hope all three ships remain relatively difficult to acquire. They are really special. And will remain so until everyone has one. If everyone has one and they are all equipped with Mk XIV Epic Antiproton weapons, they become ordinary.

    Ordinary is boring.

And if it means I will never have any one of the three for one of my chars, I am okay with this. Because they are special right now. A great many people who play this game do not deserve them. Since the only thing they will do is farm the Trait and then Drydock them. Further, most people will not use these ships to the exclusion of any other in the game, so there's no real point in everyone having one.

Then again, my favorite part of any car show is the section for the daily drivers. Saw a 1968 Camaro SS/RS convertible which the owner drove to work every day once.

    Logic:

Keys can be bought with Zen
Keys can be sold for EC
Therefore: zen can converted to EC

The Connie CAN be bought with EC, on the trade channel and possibly later on the exchange.

Therefore the Connie CAN be bought with Zen.

    Not a "strawman"

Accusing people of wanting it free is a straw man, don't try to deflect it with the usual endless praises for shady capitalist practices.
Actually there's multiple people on multiple threads that have called for the ships to be 50th anniversary free rewards from missions or events similar to the current mirror event.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

I have a life. I'm far too busy to accumulate the EC needed. That's why I'm comfortable with not having the ship - it's really for the sort of people who have either that kind of time or that kind of disposable income.

Meanwhile, I'm not exactly hurting for high-end ships (he said, relaxing on the bridge of his Yorktown-class science cruiser and observing an alt cruising by in a Paladin-class battle cruiser disguised as a Ranger...).

Nothing in this game is "free"...

During giveaways, you still have to login and claim the item(s). You pay by logging in, thus padding the metrics.

During events, you pay for the "free" item(s) by logging in, performing a task X-number of times, and are then able to claim the "free" item(s). Thus, padding the metrics once again.

Items in the Exchange, C-store, Lobi Store, etc. are pretty self-explanatory. You use whatever currency is required to obtain the desired item(s).

Lockboxes, R&D boxes, Duty Officer Packs, etc. with regards to how items are awarded, are not given for "free". You first have to pay for either the key to open the box, or buy the box itself and then open it. What you get is determined by chance, of course. Yes, you will get whatever standard item(s) as advertised, but the "big" item like the T6 Connie, for example, is not something to be earned. Earning something implies that it is going to be given in exchange for performing a task. You go to work, you earn a paycheck.

Yes, one could split hairs here and say that you are "earning" the ship by opening boxes, but you really are not. You are "earning" the Lobi and have a Chance of getting the T6 Connie, in this case.

All I am saying is that the word "free", IMO, is not being used properly, and is thrown around as a catch-phrase to give people the impression that you really are getting something "free".

Games can't run on giving away "free" things. It may not always cost financially, but the game also survives on metrics whether we all like it or not. We pay in money and/or time.

I believe that people should actually fly this ship before commenting on it's performance.

I don't feel cheated at all.

There is no way to spin it from what it is. A money grab at the expense of the players.
Well, where the hell do you think they're getting money from? All the space billboards?

Coming soon to an ESD near you "Try Pepsi, it will take you beyond the stars" Billboard :p

That would have to be Space Pepsi, with the "e" replaced with a Starfleet Combadge logo

And the Klingons will have Coke spelled with a "K" Drink "Koke!!"

You forgot the unnecessary single-quotes. K'oke - today is a good day to drink!

Have to wonder how many people want this ship for nothing other than the fact that it's exclusive? I mean, whilst I won't pretend that I wouldn't like to own it I don't honestly think it would become a 'mainstay' ship for me; it would wind up as a trophy ship - something to fly around in just for the sake of saying 'hey, look how lucky I am'.
Frankly, I have a favourite ship, and the T6 Connie wouldn't replace that, so I am not honestly losing any sleep over not owning one.

I actually do a theme setup for the 50th anniversary.

I have set up my Konnie with all the Kelvin Phasers and Photons and leveled them up.

Now I have my Connie and have equipped it with all "period" equipment (the icons show 23rd century equip) and am leveling those again to celebrate the 50th.

I just felt it would be inappropriate to load on my Borg Impulse and Deflector on a 23rd Century ship, but I always can later.

talk about gambling or play lottery?

here a story from long time ago, during Age of Pagan, an old celtic ritual rite during the village gathering.
many folks came to local town center, waiting for names to be call.
one of name called, and drew a stone with white mark, then next name were called, it was an old man, smiling and said, i have been doing this for 43 years, and drew a stone with white mark, and said again, i cant wait for next year..., then he was interupted by a woman.

"it not fair!", then her husband name were called, but he was unable to attend since he was with war party fighting some tribe far away, she went pale, kept saying, it not fair, then her hand went in the basket and drew a stone with a black mark, then city chiefs told her she had won for husband and had to go to next basket for family.
her 2 children pick the stones with white mark, and then chief drew for her husband, and pull a white mark, when her turn to pull, and she got a black mark and tears started, it not fair!
suddenly her childrens pick up large stone as the rest of town gathered stones.

what's not fair? you have won twice he said, as others begin to throw stones at her....
    the end.

The joy of MMOs is the interaction with other people...

I'd rather trust the the MMO company who is considerably less greedy.
