i have been thinking on it a few weeks now and im not going to spend any money on this expac. there is not as much actual mission content as i would of liked for an expac. and jjcrapverse being added has cemented that.
@mirrorchaos: Isn't there the off chance that the devs are simply holding back episodes from being released that might otherwise ruin the rest of the story in the expansion. Takedown didn't get released on Tribble when Delta Rising was being tested.
They did this in LoR people seem to have either forgot or didn't know.
Yeah, LoR had a lot of missions to playtest, but only the actual faction story.

This is really progressive of Cryptic. If the metrics pan out like I think they will we could finally be playing in the current Trek timeline which I think would be Awesome.
I'm pretty sure that the new TV show will be in the Kelvin timeline.
The Kelvin Timeline ships can be Cryptic's new Tier 7.

It was already confirmed that it won't be the new timeline.

No it hasn't.
Nothing has been confirmed, except that it's going to be about Star Trek and starts in January 2017.
All the rest of the chit out there is just UNconfirmed rumors.

And with this I will attempt to stop all references to the "JJ-Verse", "JJ-Trek", "JJ-Prise" and anything such like. It is now the Kelvin Timeline and Kelvin Enterprise, similar to how we say Mirror Enterprise for the Mirror Universe. I have always enjoyed these new films, even if I don't agree with everything they do. I just hope that STO Players can find it within themselves to use this name rather than reach outside the canon with "JJ", even if they are not a fan of the Kelvin Universe.
Thank you Cryptic for reaching into the TOS Era and well-done for getting rights to the Reboots! I know it may be a one-off thing, depending on how the contract went with Paramount. I just hope that this means we'll see TAS for an episode later on, or one of the other things you haven't had rights to use! Yeshua Bless Y'all!!!
Well said!
Your father was captain of a starship for twelve minutes. He saved 800 lives, including your mother's, and yours.
So what the hell happened to "We can only do CBS's IP stuff"? And who thought mixing these 2 dissimilar Treks was a good idea? JJ Enterprise is 2.4 times bigger than the Connie and the Vengeance ~2x bigger than THAT Enterprise. I don't think this is a good idea if the JJ-verse gets outside of a few missions to do.

Apparently it was the PWE/Cryptics/CBS Accountants.
They saw Major $$$$$$ <cha-ching> from the last two movies and convinced the folks in charge to try and get some of that mega-bankroll here.

This IS Star Trek's 50th Anniversary year, and Star Trek Beyond comes out next month, too (Agents of Yesterday releases at the beginning); this could all be seen as cross promotion/celebratory actions when taken together.
Plus, ultimately, CBS still holds all the rights to Star Trek, and does have some sway over the new movies in some capacity as well, too. While the initially probably didn't want Kelvin Timeline Trek material in the game to begin with, the timing was probably deemed appropriate, and elements were introduced into the game to facilitate this.
... and the chit-load of money pouring in for the last seven years didn't hurt either.

there are those who are still salivating over the t6 connie. this tie up only means one thing, that they have something big planned more than this little tid-bit.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

Do you have anything special on your mind?

K so now that I've basked in it for a while, my real thoughts:
I don't really care about the content. I'm sure it'll be fine, I'll play it like all the rest. I'm not chomping at the bit to run it, though. It's just a thing I'll do eventually.
What's got me really excited is watching a forum full of grown people acting like spoiled brats, stomping their little feet impotently and making empty "I'm taking my money elsewhere" threats that, even if they did stop spending, will ultimately mean little versus the money this content will bring in, all making fools of themselves over something that is really and truly harmless.
Please, carry on, it's amazing. It's like watching an episode of Cops - it makes me feel a lot better about myself because at least I'm not you.

Wow.........Franklin look's really pissed. Guess he's not a JJTrek fan either.
( I thought he was on the $1, got Kangaroo's on on ours =3 )
Ben Franklin had gout. It was incredibly painful, and he even wrote poetry detailing just how much he disliked his medical condition. I'm guessing that's what was on his mind when they put his portrait on the $100 bill.
Starting to consider this as a "polite tip of the hat" to the Kelvin Timeline (KT) movies that probably inspired new viewers to take a look at the classic/prime content as well.
The KT appears to be similar in nature to that of the MU.
It either existed in parallel to the MU and Prime universes all this time, or it was created when Nero and Spock were swallowed up by that red matter singularity.
As long as the two realities don't blend together I'm okay with "an excursion" or two and then sealing up... whatever that is that connects the KT with ours. It'd be a good opportunity to see if a KT connie can stand up to a Prime Sovereign Refit But considering the thrashing the Narada gave them, I doubt it. Did we ever see a shield bubble flare up in the reboot movies AT ALL? ^^
As for any incoming lock box ships... I gave up on those. *shrugs* Since the F2P launch my luckiest "pull" from a box was a Kazon raider. ^^

but they CLEARLY did have shields, as they were mentioned several times through both movies
likely they were conforming shields like the ones in nemesis were
True, that is an explanation for it. It should've still been visible in some fashion if you ask me, like in Nemesis.
When the Scimitar's shots impacted the hull-conforming shields, we got a clearly visible "splash" effect. Another example: when one of the Mogai warbirds explodes and a piece of hull first impacts the Enterprise's saucer and then the left nacelle but the shield protects them both... barely.
Not gonna get stuck up on a minor detail though. X) We'd still thrash any of the JJ-Trek ships, so I'm not sure if any of them would count even as a T5, if any get added to the game at all.
Heck they were pwned by a mining ship that was refitted with Borg tech that basically counts as ancient by 2410. We've seen a lot worse, endured a lot worse, and we can field tougher ships than that.

Pretty much. This particular tempest in a teapot is about as scary as the last one... *gets out popcorn*
I think CBS and Paramount had so much fun together suing Axanar they decided to become best friends
