Yeah I think it works for me. Maybe if one of the rooms was given a TOS look as well that would be nice, but it would be a convenient place to have the hub.
If they want to be sticklers about the story and blending in I think it still works. Maybe you have a special code to beam over there etc...
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again."
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
Wouldn't the Captain's Table area make perfect sense for a Time Traveler's faction gathering place? Does the place just need some sprucing up?
Would at least give it a purpose. Aside from looking around one time and noticing how there's nothing you could do there right now.
You would need to give access to everyone for the Captain's Table which I think they should have done a long time ago. Do any lifetime members honestly want an exclusive map that adds nothing to the game and is a dead social zone. If I forked out that kind of money I would want the resources going towards things that enhance the game for everyone. It's kind of like giving a player a map in mario kart that only they can drive around by them self. But there is no bloody way that cryptic is ever going to utilize that for it to happen.

The Captain's Table could just have a door to a Temporal zone. Which could include the 23rd century ESD, maybe also give you the chance to meet up at the Temporal base, maybe have a zone from one of the later time periods too. That way we're just taking assets we have and using them better?
I understand thats the idea and I agree its a very good one thats needed. Just cryptic is never going to go for it. We're talking about the same people that removed Memory Alpha for the only reason being that they added a utility tray. Under that logic they should delete ESD fully form the game and just add a side utility tray option for its needs. In fact deleting every map from the game so we only have click screen options is comparable to their thought process for doing things. I can see them making the full game a click chart before adding the Captain's Tables as a hub that serves any purpose
What is clear, however, is that there is no dedicated social zone for the TOS faction after the Battle of Caleb IV. I do hope they reconsider that part.
I mean, it could even be a 31st century "temporal agent training camp" base, reachable via the Aenigma nebula in Earth orbit, or even a simple temporally displaced copy of 23rd century ESD. But something that is exclusively for the new faction is certainly required to call it a faction.
I agree. There has to be a hub out of time for the TOS characters. Otherwise the whole expansion and experience will be over in less than 2 hours. In other words, after that 2 hours you're really just a Fed.
if you read my last post as well as many of my previous posts that is my biggest bug with this so called "faction" , at least romulans have romulan command and the flotilla what zone do ToS characters have that is unique to them?
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

I Think they should take all active accounts with a history longer than three years and a purchase record of more than five hundred dollars and make them all Lifers with all the rights and privileges thereof. Get rid of that pathetic restaurant in a hole and turn it into something everyone can enjoy..

no, I don't want that white elephant hand me down from lifers, I am a lifer myself and I don't use the dump now, I am certainly not going to use it any more because its suddenly for ToS character only instead of lifers only.

I have to say I was interested in more TOS content for the new TOS Character I wanted to create. I was really hoping we could explore the new TOS sector block after the TOS missions were completed. My biggest concern from what I have read from several sources is that there is no more TOS ships past your T1 ship you start with and are thrust into the future using the current content to continue your leveling to 40 and beyond. As well we a required to change from the TOS uniform to a current uniform. So my free immersion ends at level 10 instead of level 40 for a TOS character. I am then requred to buy the Temporal agent Pack to have TOS ships from 10 to 40 and purchase the TOS Uniform for the look of a TOS character. All other factions have free content to level 40. So if this is true it would truly mean this is just a new tutorial for the current Fed faction and not a "Faction" at all. From what I have read it sounds like the 6 episodes are really well done which makes me happy.
I will wait for more blog posts but I am super disappointed if this turns out to be true. I have no problem buying stuff in this game with real money if I want it and I have purchased a lot of stuff. I was planing on buying the Temporal Agent Pack and the TOS bridge pack but this looks like a required purchase for content for stuff in other factions that was free up to level 40. PWE money grab, tease them with TOS content then if you want to continue your TOS experience buy this $129 pack oh and the $5 non ripped TOS uniform. Not cool in my book. Time and more blog posts will tell......sigh
I've said it before and I'll say it again for this page: We have time before the expansion fully rolls out. We have the summer event coming up on the 9th of June (assuming they keep it the way it says right now) and it'll likely last until the 21st of July. Agents of Yesterday drops sometime in July, but since they won't want to take people away from the summer event while it's still going on in the beginning of July, they'll most likely wait to release it the following Tuesday after the summer event.
They have about 8 weeks worth of time to get the expansion out, and 38 work days (assuming they're not doing work on Saturdays like they did with LoR) to get out information to us in the form of blogs and tribble patches. All you need to be is patient.
That said, I'm focusing my attention to what you said in terms of no more TOS ships. LoR was released in chunks for the Romulans and the closed beta (which I was a part of) went up to the end of Temporal Ambassador. Their episodes are of a higher quality than LoR's so they need to have more time to finish some episodes and get them out to tribble. Since we're dealing with Daniels here, we may have episodes that will take us back in time to have more in 2270. We just have to wait patiently to see what they have planned.
Bottom line is that we're gonna get what we get, regardless of what we want. I find it difficult to believe that either cryptic or PWI both existing in silicon valley, actually give a rat about anything their customers want. Software production has long enjoyed the elevated status of being something of a miracle, as we used to have to do everything by hand. However, that miracle has stepped down from its lofty pinnacle and become a commodity; a requirement for life, but the software manufacturers still hold firmly that they are the new demi gods of the world and people will flock to their products like addicts to heroin simply because it exists. I lived and worked in that industry for nearly fourty years ( and made a much better income than PWI's poor marketing analysts ). They didnt care back then ( except for Woz ) and they dont care what you want now..
I said it before, and I'll say it again until someone proves me wrong...
They (cryptic) are doing the best that they (cryptic) can (are able to do).
It's physically, financially, managerially, culturally and organizationally impossible for Cryptic to do a better job on this, than they're already doing.
they don't have the ability to do better.
If this were even remotely true then there needs to be some serious firing and hiring going on. Or PWI just axe the studio. But since it isn't true, stop spewing drivel.
I am going to disagree because you need to weigh each of those categories against one another.
Physically = This is what the engine and servers and the low end users can manage.
Financially = Has to make a profit. (Hate to sound condescending there but that is what it always boils down to.)
Managerially = As set down by the parent/holding company for what they may do to be in line with their other products. (This might be the big stumbling block as, personally, the only other PWE games worth it are Champions and Neverwinter. Hmm I sense a pattern.)
Culturally = CBS/Hollywood oversight. (All the high end Connie threads shot down by CBS. Need to be in SAG or compliance to use actual actors for voice talent, etc.)
Organizationally = Not all your talent can do everything. See my signature quote for a great example.
Balancing this five legged table is tricky and sadly the only way to do better than they are already doing requires an injection of cash from a not profit seeking source. Example: Lottery winning STO player donates a million to hire ten people to do nothing but fix bugs. Or pay for voice acting, etc.
Pure conjecture on your part with no substance. The fact is they HAVE done better than this before. I'm all for bashing Cryptic when they earn it... but that isn't the case here, at least not yet.
Plenty of torches and pitchforks left people! Reasonable pricing! ez financing availible (for qualified buyers)
Get the hell outta my stall! No one said you could man it! Why are pitchfork sales lagging?? And what did you do with all the butter sauce for the popcorn?!?!
What we don't know is how much ? And if it's unique "TOS Content" ... official response ... "Can't go into detail" which basically translates to "No" ...
It translates to No, eh? How do you know it's a no. You don't know, so stop trying to put words in the devs' mouths. It only makes you look even less reliable as you aren't reliable anyway. I'll take the devs' word on this more than I would on your word.
p.s. everyone seems to have forgotten Chekov and Scotty in their TWOK outfits and the statment we get to see them after the Ent-B incident... so we know for certain the 23rd century stuff is NOT done... Admittedly 6 missions for TOS 23rd century is BS if thats all but still.

I'm afraid that's true. Additionally, Lifetimers and gold players already have access to the Captains table, i can imagine a lot of frustration if they wouldn't be able not to enter that area anymore. (even if no one actually uses it).
A TOS only Starbase which acts as social zone should be the bare minimum for TOS players to get at least the feel of being a unique faction.
I think it's already too late for them to dwell on our suggestions, but they could just unlock 23rd century K-7 Station for TOS players. The map is already in the game so the amount of work would be minimal compared to create a whole new Base/Planet.
"...'With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured...the first thought forbidden...the first freedom denied--chains us all irrevocably.' ... The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged. I fear that today--"
- (TNG) Picard, quoting Judge Aaron Satie
Original Series Era Starfleet simply never should have been described as a separate faction, IMO. These characters are Starfleet. They use Starfleet ships. They just have a fancier version of the Delta Recruit system, complete with a separate tutorial.
And that's fine. That's not nothing. What these characters are doesn't take anything away from anybody, and I vastly prefer that the majority of the expansion's content be at endgame, where the characters that I already have can pick up the story where the last Featured Episode leaves off. I think commenters are just getting wrapped up around the axle because a word like "faction" carries so much baggage with it.
Tacofangs was mentioning about 2 years ago about hooking up a door to the Captain's Table at Club 47. So we could have other doors in other important social zones to access the Captain's Table. After all, that is how the Captain's Table is supposed to work instead of going through some nebula that teleports us outside of space and time. A Transwarp to the Captain's Table would be a much better option. Gives us an interesting place to relax and shop without having to deal with all the people from ESD.

My pure conjecture is based on design theory. Best example I have are warships. Graded on Firepower, speed, and armor. Improving one means reducing one or both of the others to excel. Or a large technology improvement.
Now using that concept look at the various parts previously noted. And you may need to take away from one or more of those categories to improve another. Or someone not interested in profit to provide an extra leg up.
Has Cryptic done better before? I say that cannot be answered. At this time. LoR was ambitious and did very well. I think the major problems that happened there was they began to run out of time developing it and had to get it out the door. Delta rising does not really feel expansion to me so it is not really a fair comparison to LoR. How does DR compare to the Iconian War and Temporal War might be fair. But I can't compare AoY to anything because it is not out yet. I do not believe the whole thing is out and they made six tiers of ships just to do six missions to level 10 then join the Federation. I believe there will be more and we will see it when it launches.
So I am not bashing Cryptic on this matter. Can they be better? Sure. We all can be.
And can I get another bag of popcorn? I swear you must have a liquor license cause there is a lot of salt on them to make you thirsty.

What does wanting to have a nice quiet place to visit the bank and exchange have to do with elitism? Some people like crowds while others despise them. As it is, the Captain's Table is so exclusive that even the players that have access to it don't use it and the way it currently is, giving everyone access won't change a thing. Just take a look at how active Club 47 is now. A bunch of people will visit for the first few days and it will be just as deserted as it is now in a few weeks. If Cryptic wants F2Pers to use it, then they better prepare to deal with the flak from making an exclusive zone into a public one. Personally, I don't care since there are more important things to worry about than everyone finally getting access to a 6 year old zone that hasn't been updated once.
Knowing Cryptic, they will sell access for 500 Zen or more. However, repurposing the Captain's Table into a TOS social zone disrespects the people that have earned access to the Captain's Table by supporting the game by purchasing the Lifetime Subscription or subscribing for 400 days and TOS players that want their own unique social zone.

Well, technically the Ent-B was launched in the 24th century...

I subscribed for much more than 400 days and I couldn't care less whether or not someone gets that particular perk. Shoot, if Cryptic opened it to the public then maybe they'd actually do something with it.
Now, if they started selling the Chimera on the C-store, we might have something to be up in arms about.

nah its the tears from all the kids wailing and crying, plus some smoke from the forum fires does get into peoples eyes... but hell free salt, ya know?
you mean, payed for the access.. Thats alright. a lot of people get that confused with actually working..
If I actually bought the LTS to access the Captain's Table, then I would have paid for access and a complete waste of money. However, $240 in February 2010 and still playing 6 years later certainly makes it a good deal even if there was no Liberated Borg Captain, Chimera ship, Android Bridge Officer, or Captain's Table access and just the 500 Zen Stipend.

Its not that sound of investment if you take into account the ammount you have p[ossibly spent since then which even with thewir monthly fifty cent ( 500 zen ) payment to you could be staggering.. I know I myself in the past four some years have spent over a thousand dollars on this game not counting keys, and I'm not an LTS.. That extra 240 dollars or 300 dollars or whatever it is at any given time, simply is not worth the ship skins and free ships and a place nobody goes..

... 500 zen is 5$ not 50 cent. and at 6 years starting at - 240' for the investment he is at roughly120$ profit, and in the 4 years I've played I not even spent 100$. seems like a pretty good investment to me.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

The LTS already paid for my $240 investment long before the 500 Zen stipend was available since the only way to play the game at the beginning was the monthly subscription or the Lifetime subscription. In 16 months, the LTS was completely played off and there was 8 months of playing the game for free before F2P was available. So I already have earned about $240 worth of Zen in the past 4 years. If that is not a good deal, then I don't know what is. Of course, purchasing the game in 2012 or later would not make the LTS such a good deal.

You would need to give access to everyone for the Captain's Table which I think they should have done a long time ago. Do any lifetime members honestly want an exclusive map that adds nothing to the game and is a dead social zone. If I forked out that kind of money I would want the resources going towards things that enhance the game for everyone.
Pure conjecture on your part with no substance. The fact is they HAVE done better than this before. I'm all for bashing Cryptic when they earn it... but that isn't the case here, at least not yet.
Get the hell outta my stall! No one said you could man it! Why are pitchfork sales lagging?? And what did you do with all the butter sauce for the popcorn?!?!
AWESOME...!!!!
You honestly enjoy having the Captain's Table being exclusive? Do you enjoy playing tennis or base ball by yourself as well?

I subscribed for much more than 400 days and I couldn't care less whether or not someone gets that particular perk. Shoot, if Cryptic opened it to the public then maybe they'd actually do something with it.
Now, if they started selling the Chimera on the C-store, we might have something to be up in arms about.
Oh gods no.. Please. No Chimera's.. You can have them, all of them.. Oddly, ive seen a few popping up on the server today.. Must be everyones getting antsy..
nah its the tears from all the kids wailing and crying, plus some smoke from the forum fires does get into peoples eyes... but hell free salt, ya know?
