I AM looking forward to Agents of Yesterday

It is very sad to see how many people are bashing and hating on the new annoucement of the Agents of Yesterday expansion even though the annoucements have only just started and how no body has played any of the content yet.

So many comments about not liking TOS and wanting more DS9 (or insert other series) focused content. At the moment we have had the annoucement of the new expansion and the packs - it is focused on TOS (and given it is the 50th anniversary, so it should!).
People should also remember three things:
  1. We know little about what is to be included in this expansion!
  2. Ships in the packs also take some of their design inspiration seen in Enterprise (1701-J) not just TOS
  3. Everything in the current STO timeline has just about everything seen on screen as "Yesterday" so there is yet no way to know if other aspects of TNG, DS9, VOY or ENT are still to be included

As there are SO MANY threads and posts with all this negativity, this post is for those who are looking forward and are excited about what appears to be coming in Agents of Yesterday this summer.

If you want to post about your disappointment, please do so on any of the OTHER threads that are about such a thing. I will probably even move (or delete) posts that are not on topic for this thread which is "I AM looking forward to Agents of Yesterday".

Personally, I am excited to see what they have coming this summer and want to thank the developers for all their hard work.

I will re-post what I have put in the main AOY thread:

I thought there was nothing that could draw me back to STO, and I have just been proven wrong. This is like a dream come true. My favourite era!! I seriously can't believe it!! The second I am able I will be buying the big pack, those ships look incredible.

    I could cry right now....

Edit: Cryptic you have outdone yourselves. Gemini class, my dream of a TOS era four nacelle ship has come true. Have I died and gone to heaven?

I agree - this is 50th anniversary of TOS. If it proves a popular mechanic to bring in new players who is to say they don't have plans in place for TNG(and thus DS9/VOY) Era game play - September 2017 will mark the 30th Anniversary of The Next Generation launching.

I am looking forward to seeing how this plays out - one of my favorite in game mission chains is What Lies Beneath/Everything Old is New/Night of the Comet. If this update expands on the feel of that chain I'm there, but also for players not interested in levelling in the TOS era, all those assets presumably open up the possibility of future time travel mission chains and ultimately Foundry missions.

    My current feeling is this:

I have never been that much of a fan of TOS. My first memories of Star Trek was TNG and the original movies which left the 60's production looking a little discordant. I could never really reconcile that era with the rest of the series (apart from being that style of television.) Being a good show I could appreciate and of course there's episodes and characters that I really like. But when I sit down to relax with star trek I almost never choose TOS. Hell I've even taken to TAS more readily (and I have absolutely no idea why.)

Providing that link is pretty much the point of AoY. It's doing a greater service for me personally than just being more STO content. It's providing me the necessary bridge (through a familiar format which I've grown to really like in its own right) to finally appreciate the TOS era as more than just the setup to TMP. And I have little doubt is going to continue beyond the life of this one game. Once seen I can't unsee it (which probably wasn't what Cryptic was hoping for from the trailer.)

That sentiment is not going to apply to anyone else (who doesn't share my feelings regarding the total franchise) but it's what has me very excited for what's to come.

on the contrary, i am still on the fence about the expansion for now but i am looking forward to AoY and its information to be released, i have yet to see any details to help me make my mind up if buying any of the packs is wise idea. it is simply thinking ahead rather than being negative.

i cant be negative on the expac because there are no details revealed yet as to what the devs are doing, while your enthusiasm is okay for you, for me i would rather wait to find out if it is all okay first before getting excited about it. This is all i will state since you mention you are looking for specific type of answers. who knows i could change my answer later on and become excited.

I am thoroughly looking forward to the new expansion - much more so than LoR and DR. On the 50th anniversary of TOS, the thing that, ya know, started the entire trek franchise, including this game, there was no other possibility as far as I am concerned.

People are so horribly negative about anything that does not fit 100% with their ideas for the game. How do you think the devs feel? People on this forum TRIBBLE all over everything they do, without fail, every time. The developers are people too - they have feelings, desires and put their soul into this game. And some folks just want to destroy all that good will. Stop it.

Reading the main thread, there are a select few who think they are the voice of the community. You are not. You represent just a few isolated players who feel the forums are your own personal playground. Do not deign to talk for the silent majority. You cannot quantify the unheard opinions of the masses and you cannot twist what you cannot know into support for your own negativity.

To the devs - Thankyou so much for what is probably looking to be the most "trek" of any of your content releases to date. I'm really looking forward to playing in your TOS playground, regardless of how long or short or restricted that content is. I really appreciate what you do for this game and keeping "prime" star trek alive for me, personally.

I eagrly await any further blogs on the upcoming expansion

I'd go with - Accept there's no 'one', 'best' or 'true' Trek. Star Trek, with its' several series has many flavors, shades and nuances. Everyone likes different flavor, style & characters. Not everyone likes the same as you do & it doesn't make them any less than you - so even if you do not like TOS, try to look on the bright sides. It's a new content, it will likely bring new players into the game, revitalize the community.

I'm keeping my chin up, and I am curious what they'll bring to us, despite of being in the 'Not a TOS fan' column. Oh, and seeing some of my friends being delighted, happy... that was well worth it too. No reason to ruin it for them, and I'd rather see them have fun, and find some for myself as well, if I can!

    *howgh*

PS: And hey, it does give me an excuse to spend long-nights thinking out/designing of my main character's ancestor. Huehue... RP'er's delight. MY RP bubble, here I come! :p:D

I have to say I was rather disappointed too at just how "intense" things were yesterday. So much so that I didn't even feel like commenting despite my own "cautious" excitement over the announcement. Like others have said, we know so little about the expansion at this time... and yet so many are so sure it "will" do "this" or it "won't " include "that." DS9 is one of my favorites, so I would have loved a "gamma" expansion too, but the more I think about it, a TOS expansion, while unexpected, might be a lot of fun. Not to mention very fitting to celebrate the 50th. As such I am patiently awaiting further information... while somewhat avoiding the forum until things cool off. o:)

Wow. So as a mod you posted a new thread instead of posting your feedback here:

    http://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1214974/agents-of-yesterday-announcement/p1

Is it OK for everyone else to post their own seperate threads too? Or do they need to post in an existing thread?

There has been uncalled for negativity regarding unreleased expansion, and I feel/believe that one part of a job of a Community moderator is to try & promote positive discussion. This thread tries exactly that, to offset the negativity. It is not a derailing, duplicite or bashful thread & it has a specific goal - as such, it has a merit & it will stay.

    I am rather ambivalent...

Yes, it is new content, but it is Federation centric. Even if the ship pack is supposed to be "faction agnostic", the design is Federation. I will likely create a captain to play the 50th Anniversary content, but for the moment I just want more information for the sake of clarity.

On the plus side, I suppose if the ships are "faction agnostic" then this means my KDF and Romulan science captains will be able to purchase the T6 Temporal Multi-Mission Science Vessel Eternal Class from the C-Store.

Some people have different tastes, preferences, and feelings than you. This isn't "very sad." You'd think as Star Trek fans there'd be more appreciation for the meaning behind "infinite diversity in infinite combinations."

This is it for me in a nutshell.

I absolutely LOVE Star Trek. Every series has pushed that Trek button for me in a good way. Every movie. But among those flavors I have some favorites. It's funny but I actually prefer watching TNG reruns to anything else because of the many happy memories it evokes with watching the show with my father. Since he passed, TNG reruns really just provide that warm-fuzzy whenever I feel nostalgic for family.

But I've always loved the look and feel of the 60s Trek spaceships way more than everything else. And have wanted to be able to play a video game like STO that incorporated more of that look and design. I'm a big fan of retro-Sci Fi. And STO kind of sort of pushed that out there when it launched. We had the T1 Connie. We had the TOS uniforms. We even had a time travel episode with the Guardian of Forever, and TOS Klingons and Spock showing up and chit chatting with us from the actual Enterprise. We eventually got the TOS bridge, and the TOS phasers and the TOS Phaser Rifle and the storyline with the Devidians. I loved all of this. But I wanted more of that flavor.

This expansion? Is more of that flavor!

I can't thank Cryptic enough for doing this. I still love love LOVE all the other flavors. But I've really wanted something like this for a very long time.

Now shut up and take my money!

Its an mmo first, star trek second... an mmo wants everyone to be absolutely thrilled about their newest offering and a wall of bad reviews/dislikes will potentially deter new players from playing if the first thing they see on the official forum is a wall of 'I don't like this', ect

My guess is this one will stay high whilst the negatives fall away creating the impression that Agents of Oldtrek (lol) is the best thing ever and all the players love it

Myself, while I dislike the seeming fed-centric approach; I'll no doubt enjoy the missions and all the other things attatched... it'll be something new, at least.

"All this negativity?" Forgive me but I think you only see what you wanna see. There are countless posts out there made by people who are excited about this expansion. I'm one of them! But does this mean I like every single detail about it? Certainly not. I always thought that praise without criticism or criticism without praise is useless and unbelievable to anybody who's looking for some valuable feedback.

I fully agree with jodarkrider and snoggymack22 - every ST series and movie has its' own certain flair/atmosphere that I enjoy and even though my favorite Star Trek timeframe is certainly TNG/DS9+, I also adore classic Trek and am more than happy, that it gets more attention in STO again. So yeah.. I'm also looking forward to AoY!!! :)

I for one am looking forward to this expansion. Hopefully I'll have enough zen saved up for the temporal pack by then. Can't say I'm exactly a TOS fan, only watched parts of it but the movies are great. Hopefully we'll hear more about how this is supposed to play out soon.

I'm encouraged that Cryptic/PWE have apparently put some serious thought/planning into the 50th anniversary offering for STO. The AoY expansion appears to dovetail nicely into the Temporal Front content & fiction released thus far, and provides a precedent, as previously mentioned, for another expansion for next year's 30th anniversary of ST:TNG. My only trepidation is that enough work is done to minimize new bug generation, so more players aren't driven off by gameplay issues... :o

I can understand the drive to create new ships, but I can barely manage my current fleet, so I doubt I will gain more than one from the new offerings. The Nautilus looks intriguing, and the cross-faction science ships show promise, so we'll wait and see. B)

Although TOS was groundbreaking on several fronts and had some interesting characters (NOT Kirk) i feel no particular nostalgia towards the show itself. It also gave birth to TNG so cannot dismiss TOS completely.

Having said that, i feel the new expansion going into the TOS offers enough possibilities to look forward to its release.
Just keep the worlds worst actor (Shattner) and that awkward 1960's style of acting as far away from the game as possible.

Perhaps some additional screenshots of the new T1-T5 ships can be made available to get people interested.
Perhaps some shots of the T6 ships as well even though their style doesn't really appeal to me.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

As I've posted elsewhere: I'm indifferent to it being TOS. I assume we'll see the new content in the same style, but modernised.

But the prospect of new content is always good :)

I do think that they should have given some more info though, especially on the things that have already been released. There's a lot of uncertainty about the ship pack that's already available.

been over 149 days in the making if thomas is any measure of how long the planning has been and creating has been. also i grew up with TNG quite literally was the first TV show i ever watched that i remember but i also love the TOS ship design and with the 50th anniversary of the show that help to shape me into who i am now i give a good huzzah to the dev team and look forward to gathering intel on the upcoming expansion.

I am looking forward to the expansion if for no other reason than any new content is a good thing. I actually enjoy all Star Trek, and think TOS translates nicely into the game universe. While I can see why some might be dissappointed that their particular desires aren't the focus of the next expansion, I would say give it a chance and offering suggestions for the future. Negativity, however, is uncalled for so I support a thread encouraging people to express their appreciation for the new work being done by the development team.

People should also remember three things:

As there are SO MANY threads and posts with all this negativity, this post is for those who are looking forward and are excited about what appears to be coming in Agents of Yesterday this summer.

OP this should be moved to:

It does NOT matter if positive view. ALL other posts were considered duplicate and closed down for good. Not sure why ONLY positive views could be allowed as duplicate posts? I'm neutral about the new season and NOT negative but what I'm concerned is that "again" it looks like some views are being put down rapidly while others left alone.

This is a great game and we all should be more tolerant of others without being limited o channeled to an opinion. I donot agree that there is a sense of negativity in this MMO as it was with Delta launch. Most topics have remained civil so far and hope it does not change.
