The conventional wisdom with lockboxes is to unlock them if you'd like to accumulate some of the regular prizes, and consider ships and the like lucky bonuses. If you really want a lockbox ship, check the Exchange. The new ones will still be quite expensive/rare, but wait until this lockbox has been out for a month or so and they'll be... well, not 'cheap,' but 'regular lockbox ship price.' If you don't have ECs for such a purchase (I sure don't), conventional wisdom is buy master keys and resell them on the Exchange. I doesn't make it cheap, but it lets other (more willing) players do the gambling.
theres players who spend in the thousands of USD and or Pounds and dont get a ship , the lockboxes are a gambling device to get you to spend, like any roulette wheel or poker table.
Once you lay your money down its all down to chance and luck.

Odds do not improve with each lockbox opened.
On the bright side you probably have a TON of Lobi, which can be spent to buy the Lobi store ship.

This right here OP , you dont open the boxes for the ships that may or may not be inside, you open them for the lobi so you can buy a ship from the lobi store.

Yep, this is what I do. (And it took me opening enough boxes over 4 years to get 3-4k+ lobi crystals, before a Rare Prize Ship dropped.)
How to get a lockbox ship 100% of the time in four easy steps:
1. Find price of lockbox ship on exchange or chat channel.
2. Buy zen to buy enough keys to be sold for that amount
3. Sell the keys for EC or use the keys as currency.
4. Purchase lockbox ship with 100% chance of success.
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Yup this right here, ive got several LB ships , my galor is my baby so is my JHDC and well all of them, all except one i bought via the exchange by trading dil for zen then buying up keys and selling them.
Just for giggles, I decided to figure the odds of getting a 1% drop, in 100 boxes.
(How to do this: take the chance of failure, not success: 0.99 Multiply it together 100 times, to find the chance that you fail all 100. Then subtract that from 100%)
Turns out it's only a 63% chance of success (that's succeeding once in 100 tries). It only improves to 87% with 200 attempts.
Of course, it's still easy to fail - random numbers and all that.
(And I'm pretty sure the chance of the big prize is worse than 1%)
OP, have you ever bought a lottery ticket? Did you win a million pounds / dollars?
No? Welcome to lotteries.
You admit you knew you were gambling, you admit you knew that you could get the ship with 100% certainty from the Exchange. With a tiny bit of effort you could find the approximate odds for your gambling. With a tiny bit more effort you could read about the gambler's fallacy or read any of the past threads here about lock box odds.

The random number generator (RNG) is seldom kind to impatient players; after opening >800 lock boxes, I have received 18 ships, all of them Mirror Universe variants, which cannot be upgraded from T5. This is a yield of 2.25%, and still no premium ships.
As previously noted, however, this also yielded enough Lobi to buy at least 4 ships at T5U or T6, which I am enjoying often.

If you had sold those keys on the exchange you could've bought the battleship THREE TIMES OVER!
Now, check the exchange to see which Lobi ships are the highest priced which is usually the Astika, then use all your Lobi to buy those ships and sell them on the exchange. Buying more then one type of Lobi ship will make this process go faster. In a few days you should have enough EC depending how much lobi you have to buy a battleship off the exchange and if you wait a few weeks the price will only drop further. You will need three Lobi ships for this to work, otherwise sell all the junk you got out of the boxes as well. You should be able to buy it or be extremely close.
Your welcome.

STO is very casual orientated, while Eve online definitely isn't. You can rest in the knowledge that you have supported the game's continuation.

I believe he said two hundred pounds, not 200 dollars. That's about 284USD today.
OP: You spent your money gambling, and your lost your money gambling.
You have nobody to blame BUT YOURSELF.
The sooner you come to accept this, the happier you will be, and the more sense (and money) you will have.
