Interestingly, in Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Kyle Katarn tells the player that no Force ability is inherently light or dark; it's how you use it.
One thing that is particularly interesting is that the Dark Side can be used to heal people. It's how Maul and Anakin survived what would have been mortal injuries to most people.
As if Anakin and Darth Maul weren't enough...
"Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith so powerful and so wise, he could use the Force to influence the midi-chlorians to create life. He had such a knowledge of the dark side, he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying."
Speaking of Darth Plagueis, theory has it that Supreme Leader Snoke could actually be Darth Plagueis (among other theories that make little sense).
Thoughts?
Winning.
It's what I do. It's what I just did. It's what I'm about to do again. It's being undisputed emperor of an empire that cannot be disproved as the most powerful intergalactic empire in the entire universe; I always win, and everything I've won will definitely be won again... by me. It's my signature move, and thus, it's my signature. Problem, Sonic? Yeah, I mean you, Sonic, because you're being beat up, despite your being super. You can't even hit Shadow back, can you? Nope, he's too strong for you. Of course, I'm not Shadow, I'm the Super Emerald fueled fox that's pulling the strings; trust me, the fight would only be a few frames long if I were in it personally. Oh, and here's something for all you guys thinking you can win Last Post Wins 3.0; trust me, I'll be around a long while after the sun has already consumed the Earth while I sit out with the forum servers on Titan. Yes, I mean Titan... that comparatively little moon orbiting Saturn. It's a nice little place in a version of our solar system where the sun is a lot bigger. I mean, Mars will last longer than your precious Earth, but by then, it'll be one hot planet... and I figure Saturn's moon will be about the right temperate for a super-powered warlord. Oh, and trust me, I packed a lot of rings, and I mean a lot. Trillions, in fact, so I'll never run out of rings to power my super form. Besides, if I start to run out, I can just chaos control more rings into my reach. It's quite easy, really. You should try it. Granted, you'll never have the 7 Super Emeralds that I have in my possession, nor the Master Emerald that I've got hidden away somewhere... absorbed into my body thanks to Sonic logic, but whatever. I win. Again. I'm not kidding, either. Just check Last Post Wins, and if the last post isn't mine, it soon will be. Very, very soon. You can count on it. Seriously. By the way, if you're wondering, there's a really great Super Tails sprite sheet out there... somewhere... by some guy named shadow_91. These sprites are really great. Like, really good. Quality. Just like what I like to see in a sprite sheet. Also, credit to Joe T.E., his Sonic Battle style Super Sonic sprites have a great palette for a Super Sonic being beat up by Super Shadow, who's palette is from a Super Shadow sheet of unknown origin, but it turns out they were "borrowed" from a better sheet made by a certain Domenico. Oh, and the gif is actually a custom made super version of a similar gif, of which there are only 3 or 4 copies to be found by Google, and even then, evidently of an unknown source. Yep, it's one of those things. Stuff people have made, spread around, only for it to vanish and you to be the only person who still has a copy, not even knowing where it came from... like, literally at all. Oh, and anyone notice that Shadow's little chaos snap blast thingies are red and blue now? Yeah, I changed it. Problem, fans of purple? Yeah, I know you got a problem with that one, but you can just deal with it. After all, according to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly... alright, alright, I'll spare you the entire Bee Movie script, just Google it if you want. By the way, ever wonder how your characters would've ended up if they evolved in another universe? Yeah, that. Think about it. Ok, so you probably didn't bother reading up to here, but whatever, here's a surprise for you guys over at ESD (RP) who were crazy enough to read this: Emperor Nat of the mcfreakin' Terran Empire is gonna be right all along! The universe is gonna go BOOM! *Thumbs up to the insanity*
Oh, now don't tell me you want in on all this! Well, ok. Look this that Egg Pawn hanging outside your window, pointing his laser rifle at you, waiting for my next order. He's doing his part. He helps conquer the weak-minded. He roboticizes the weak-bodied. Heck, he even helps keep the useless people from causing any trouble, but you know what? Join. Find the closest Nataran Empire roboticization center near you and join the ranks, before the ranks find you. Oh, I know, you figure it must be so satisfying to know I basically rule the world now, and you know what? It is, but do you want to know the true definition of satisfaction? Well, let me tell you a little story. One day, you see a brand new event. They're giving out boxes that give old event stuff. Your dilithium is plentiful. You buy a whole lot of Phoenix packs on your main, and open them all. You get one epic token. Then, you decide, that since you have all the Breen ships and don't give a damn about the others, you exchange it for an ultra rare, and grab yourself a Jem'Hadar Attack Ship and for the hell of it, a Voth Bulwark. You open both, leaving the Bulwark in your vast masses of starships as you jump into the bugship and deck it out, deck by deck, into the most awesome Jem'Hadar ship you can. You fly it. You enjoy it. Eventually, you get bored and leave, leaving the old Bulwark never flown... until later. Your main is long complete. Your new alt main, based off some character you pulled out of nothing just to explain away some starship being in service without the command of your dear admiral, is also complete. Mostly. Their reps and doffs are hard at work, getting you stuff. You realize the potential, and head back for your dear admiral, pull the most Voth themed build you can out of thin air, and suit up in your giant ship in the shape of you know what. You head out... and cause all sorts of havoc. Enemies scream out your name as their very life is drained away by your swarms of Aceton Assimilators. They complain to the devs of your OPness when you revive yourself from death every time you die. Do you show any form of mercy? No. After all, this isn't the United Federation of Planets, this is mother frakkin' Starfleet, where you explore strange new worlds and kick butt never kicked before. Oh, and you realize that I just wrote another speech rivaling your own signature. Cool. Oh, wait, that's just the original draft, it is part of my signature now. Oh, and yes, I am aware that I have become a Canadian Regent; one day, sooner than you'd expect, we'll suddenly decide to take over the world and declare an "alliance", and I shall become it's Regent. You know, like the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance in the mirror universe of our beloved Star Trek. Oh, who'll we be taking over with? I dunno, maybe [REDACTED], or maybe aliens from outer space. Guess you'll have to wait and find out, won't we? Until then, don't ask too many questions, or else my Breen allies on Titania might pick up on your -- [REDACTED BY BREEN CONFEDERACY FOR REASONS] Also, psst... keep an eye out for flying Tribbles! Also walls. Big, great walls, separating entire continents apart. Walls patrolled by Tribbles. Flying Tribbles. Flying Nukara Tribbles. Don't worry, it's not like they were on Venus with a herd of Tholians or anything, they just like the extreme heat and brutal weather like acid rain and hurricane force winds as the norm. Oh, and definitely keep your eye out on any two-tailed foxes, because if they ain't glowing, they're definitely an imposter. Possibly an Undine, we caught one of those once in my place once. Oh, and if you find a two-tailed fox that doesn't like the cold... most certainly ask him to say sorry. If he refuses, DESTROY HIM WITH A DOOMSDAY MACHINE, BECAUSE THERE'S NOTHING ELSE THAT WOULD BE ENOUGH AGAINST SUCH AN OVERPOWERED IMPOSTER!
tr;dr, I am winning last post wins 3.0. Thank you for your time.
Well, the counter-argument is that the people most likely to excel at using the Dark Side are also most likely to use it for evil purposes.
Anakin sought the power of the Dark Side so he could save Padme and prevent her death. Luke used the power of the Dark Side to beat down Vader after he threatened to turn Leia... As mentioned, Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos also each had their own motivations as well, and can't simply be labeled as 'evil', as their characters are way too complex for such a narrow definition, so I don't think it's a totally cast-iron argument, but certainly valid in many instances (and of course, bearing in mind what each individual brings to their training as well...)
Thoughts?
I favor that theory. The idea that Plagueis could trick his apprentice into thinking he was dead does have merit. So yeah, fake your death, then go off to a pseudo-vacation someplace where you don't need to worry about your apprentice killing you.

Well, this is why I said "most likely" clearly it's not universal, but at the same time it's very common.

Not only do I think Snoke is in fact Darth Plagueis, I now suspect he's actually Rey's "father", by using the aforementioned method to create life - the same way he and/or Palpatine apparently did to create Anakin. (Remember that in TPM, Shmi Skywalker said Anakin was a virgin birth; this was never explained, but Palpatine's story in RotS strongly suggests that it was done using Plagueis's method.)
Considering that even Rey's most likely conventional parentage scenario still leaves some gaping story holes (if Luke is Rey's father, who's her mother, and why didn't Han or Leia ever mention a missing niece, especially one whose disappearance seems to be connected to Kylo?), I'm starting to think Snoke/Plagueis created Rey using an anonymous mother, arranged for Luke to discover and begin training her, then had Kylo kidnap her (wiping out Luke's other padawans in the process), erase her memory and leave her on Jakku until Snoke/Plagueis deemed her ready/old enough to resume training in the Dark Side as his and/or Kylo's apprentice.

To continue that line of thought, perhaps her parents were members of the First Order? Maybe even Phasma? If Plagueis created Rey for a specific purpose, then it'd make sense for him to choose foster parents who were loyal to him.
I just wanted to put down a thought that occurred to me. I could end up being very wrong about this especially because I'm trying to guess so early on in a trilogy, but I have been thinking that despite the way so many things in Star Wars movies play out the same way (all Darksiders die, the parallel arcs between all three trilogies), that we may see in the final movie a break with the "same old pattern."
One argument I've seen is the idea that Kylo Ren dies without ever being turned back to the Light Side because what he did to Han was such an unforgivably awful thing that even Vader couldn't bring himself to do.
But remember, Darth Vader DID in fact kill a relation. He killed his wife and would have killed Luke and Leia right there if Obi-Wan hadn't intervened. I'd say killing your wife AND nearly your children as well is just as unforgivable as Kylo Ren murdering his father. Yet he still was redeemed.
It IS extremely horrifying what Kylo Ren did, especially that he did it with his mask off, with the two of them looking each other right in the eye. So while I CAN see why it could possibly be written such that he dies, I actually think there's a possibility that not only does Kylo Ren end up getting redeemed somehow like Vader does...but that Kylo actually survives. Will this be a very tense form of survival where he ends up enduring a lot of mistrust and may have to submit voluntarily to punishment for his deeds? Yeah, realistically it would be.
But I am wondering if he could indeed live, because of that potential symbolism I noted before with HOW the Starkiller base got destroyed. Not only as I pointed out before was the base destroyed after the point where it was implied that there could be no visible hope (no visible light), when it blew it left a brand-new star in that system. That is very much NOT a dead object right there. That is something that, after millions of years (because you bet that solar system has just undergone a massive catastrophe and needs a ton of recovery time) might well be the sun that new life walks/flies/swims under on a planet somewhere in that system.
If so, that could mean that what we get from Kylo Ren is the first Darksider in a movie (could have happened in the Clone Wars series but I don't know) to actually come back AND survive. While some may legitimately argue that it could go the other way--and I fully admit they have just as much ground as I do for their speculation--I think it would be in line with the extremes we see out of Kylo so far. Extreme evil...and maybe he goes just as extreme in the other direction by actually coming back out of that darkness and living.

Hmm... great power, great potential for evil... or good.
One thing I didn't think of myself, but saw pointed out, is that maybe there is something very specific that makes Finn different from the other Stormtroopers. Maybe he has the ability to use the Force.

I'd have to disagree. Breaking ranks and betrayal is not a Force-only thing. You can look in regular history and see people that have betrayed their former side, turn coat... become a traitor for a variety of reasons despite tenure with their former side.
From the other thread I posted in two days ago which wasn't the "official" one, though :
I saw the movie an hour ago and I liked it. Pleasantly surprised, it made a lot of right choices.
Killing of Han, however, is not one of them. Like @taylor1701d said, his death felt really empty and senseless. I also suspect RL reasons behind it, Harrison Ford seems occupied with Indiana Jones, but I'd prefer him to retire and get a 'blaze of glory' moment in a later movie.
Another missed opportunity was Finn's Stormtrooper arc. He shows that even evl guys have feelings and a sense of morality, yet when he deserts the "First Order" he has absolutely no resentments about killing off hundreds of his former comrades with casual ease. His intorduction scene about tending to a shot Stormtrooper could have opened a more dimensional approach on the cosntruct of good and evil, but it's just a necessary shot to identify him as a good guy. A pity, really.

People arguing Han's death is senseless and meaningless haven't read the works of Shakespeare, I'd wager. What I mean by this, is that if you look at Shakespeare's protagonists, they all mostly die inglorious deaths - Hamlet died to a poisoned blade, Romeo and Juliet committed suicide believing the other to be dead... It's called a tragedy: seeing someone we as the audience care about die in a way we see as less than they deserve. This gives the death more power, makes us feel even more strongly about it - that's the intent. It's supposed to make us angry at our beloved protagonist's demise. Given how many are angry at Han's death, I'd say Abrams succeeded in this.
As for Han's death, he died attempting to rescue his son from the dark side. Though he ultimately failed, it took courage to face Ren as he did, and he held no malice for his son even in death. For my money, that's more powerful than any 'blaze of glory'.
Yeah, I have to say, Han's death was not only not senseless, you could even take it to be the ultimate evolution of his character. He spent the original trilogy--and even part of The Force Awakens, as a result of the pain of his son's fall--claiming he didn't care about anything or anyone but himself. We find that progressively less true in every movie...and now he dies in the most selfless manner one could imagine. That the attempt failed doesn't matter so much as the fact that Han Solo died putting his son's welfare above himself in the ultimate manner. For me it was a very sad, powerful moment--not at all the empty or senseless thing some claim it to be.
I think that whether or not we see it outwardly now (and I think there are hints he's still more unsettled inwardly than he will admit to Snoke or to himself right now), that image of his father showing true unconditional love even as he is suffering physically and spiritually, and dying, is going to *haunt* him in a way a standard "blaze of glory" death would not do to such an extent (would make it a lot easier to depersonalize Han to a mere "dead enemy," whereas this way...not so easy).
Abrams actually is good with handling these long character arcs he's inherited: what he did with Old Spock, for instance, is something I am honestly very grateful to him that he captured on film before Leonard Nimoy's health declined too far: in Trek 2009, we finally see Spock having come full circle and truly comfortable behaving in a manner I would actually call half-Vulcan, half-human, with no more shame about half of his heritage or letting other Vulcans' image of what he should be dictate how he thinks and acts.

Regarding Han's death, yes of course everyone knows why he died, that's at least for me not the senseless part. It feels empty at this point of the new trilogy and like it was decided rather abruptly because Ford has other projects to work at. Nothing wrong with why or how he died per se, it just leaves so much open - he was a little bit too much of a nostalgia bomber in the movie and died before he did much of his own and it feels a bit short. The mvoie itself is once again a nice fairy tale like Star Wars always was (I'm not digging into that awful fangasm territory to pull Shakespear and Kurosawa and who else into the mix. It's a classical fairy tale with classic motifs, nothing more nothing less).

Except that the Empire didn't recruit Finn.... the captured him as a child and attempted to brainwash him into being a storm trooper.
Just need to answer a post from several pages back:
Luke blamed himself and went into hiding not because his students died but because his own padawan, his nephew no less, turned to the dark side under his watch. Would you trust yourself to teach again after that?

I guess I didn't see it as nostalgia bombing...plus I think this is something that is going to put massive psychological pressure on Kylo for the next two movies (though Kylo would do his damnedest not to admit that to anyone including himself), so from that standpoint, it works. It leaves him a vulnerable spot that even Snoke might not be able to get to completely. If it had been an appearance that didn't advance the plot or character any, and was just there as window dressing (R2-D2 might arguably be an example of that), I think I would've been more inclined to agree with you on Han.

Yes. It's not Luke's fault that his nephew went to the Dark Side. It's not a family's fault when their child becomes radicalized and becomes a terrorist... I can understand that it would be a huge emotional blow with much self recriminations, but the blame lies solely with the one who made the choice about which route their life was to take...

Don't kid yourself, JJ was a writer first, and a director/producer second... Any project he has directed, he would still have had input into the writing process. Some article I read made mention of his discussions with Kasdan in a coffee shop about what they wanted to do, and how any eavesdropping patrons would have got some early inside knowledge. He might not be credited as the writer, but he is definitely a collaborator, probably even qualifying as a ghost-writer, in terms of his level of contributions...

Are you kidding? As much as I liked the movie, every single appearance of Han Solo was accompanied by a "remember the first movie?" line. I think literally every single scene, up to a point. Kylo was already a labile character to begin with and that's fine. I halfway expect him to turn to the light side in the second part and die in the third in honour of his father. I wouldn't want to see him as a generic villian just getting axed, although I don't really like his actor and looks
I just want to know what happened to Luke's green-bladed lightsaber (the one he used in RoTJ)!
Yes! I watched ROTJ afterwards and was wondering the same. Then again, as pointed out above, all remarks dropped only referred to the first movie. Nobody mentioned Endor or anything else, they all clearly referred to A New Hope all the time. Maybe the green lightsabre doesn't really exist in this new continuity, the blue one was clearly lost.

If he's not credited he's not the writer. Everything else is just speculation.

I think that for me, since I could see why Han was living in his past, it wasn't so out of place as the R2-D2 thing, which was the example I'd point to as gratuitous. Visually I think we even get a clue to the fact that Han is doing something unsustainable when you see the absolutely decrepit condition of the Milennium Falcon (which was so run down as to be almost painful, which I think was an intentional design decision to elicit just that response). His behavior IMO is a sign of dysfunction and he so much as admits it.
Ultimately Han had to realize he could not keep doing that--he couldn't keep running from the pain and had to confront his son directly. And that's the moment where the character comes together.
Now if I wanted to be really mean to the fans in terms of doing something different, I would not only spare Kylo's life in the end, but kill Rey (ideally after we find out Rey is a Skywalker or something suitably big). Sometimes things work like that IRL: the person who deserves the happy ending gets the awful fate they don't deserve, and the person we look at as human refuse gets spared. In this case, it could be done in such a way that it is another thing that serves as Kylo's punishment if he lives, since it would be another thing to weigh his conscience down on top of killing his father face-to-face. Living under such circumstances could be the more severe punishment than the easy way out of death, if he ends up truly redeemed.

I think Iforgothername said that it is Luke's lightsabre, that he gave it to her before he vanished. And it cannot be the blue one he loses in TESB since that's arguably gone, he couldn't have retrieved it in some manner that makes sense. So he blames himself, gives his lightsabre to not Yoda and leaves. Of course he could have created a blue one between ROTJ and TFA but we don't know it at that point. Maybe they just used the blue one in TFA because it's more iconic than the green one.

Man, George Lucas is really going nuts now. I won't post it and I will just tell you to go out and google it for yourself because his language is so offensive, but he is REALLY bitter over Abrams' success, it looks like, and not acting mature about it.
It's one thing for him to have regrets about the deal, as emotionally invested as he is, but this strikes me as some really serious sour grapes because TFA has been received so much better than his prequels. Yeah, I'm going to have to go Team Abrams on this, especially now that Lucas is losing it so badly.

Remember, Luke didn't 'fall' into that tube, he used the force to redirect himself into it, which means the lightsaber could hae continued to fall straight down the shaft, which from the film, appears to have a floor.
Also, I don't recall what's-her-name saying Luke gave her the lightsaber. I believe how she got it is deliberately left ambiguous.

In Cold Blood
As if Anakin and Darth Maul weren't enough...
"Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith so powerful and so wise, he could use the Force to influence the midi-chlorians to create life. He had such a knowledge of the dark side, he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying."
Speaking of Darth Plagueis, theory has it that Supreme Leader Snoke could actually be Darth Plagueis (among other theories that make little sense).
Thoughts?
Winning.

One thing I didn't think of myself, but saw pointed out, is that maybe there is something very specific that makes Finn different from the other Stormtroopers. Maybe he has the ability to use the Force.
My character Tsin'xing
I'd have to disagree. Breaking ranks and betrayal is not a Force-only thing. You can look in regular history and see people that have betrayed their former side, turn coat... become a traitor for a variety of reasons despite tenure with their former side.

As for Han's death, he died attempting to rescue his son from the dark side. Though he ultimately failed, it took courage to face Ren as he did, and he held no malice for his son even in death. For my money, that's more powerful than any 'blaze of glory'.
Trials of Blood and Fire

In Cold Blood

Abrams is the director, not the writer though. He never watched TOS and didn't care very much for the franchise. Nimoy's Spock story arc was written and edited by someone else
