Actually I completely agree on the futility of attempting to eradicate the use of the Force, especially if we presume that it can occur with what IRL we would call de novo mutation.
Note that I suggested it might be the idea the New Republic had...but I did not suggest it was the right idea or that it would actually work. Sometimes, politicians do incredibly dumb things, and we already know from the Prequels that that principle is very true for the galaxy far, far away.
So, while I think they may be trying to accomplish the end of Force use and create an "Age of Men"...I don't think they'd actually be able to do it. The Resistance, in contrast, gets that and as I said above, intends to fight Force with Force.
I have to wonder just how much of the New Republic senate feels like that. There aren't many Jedi or Sith. It seems as if most of the people in the galaxy don't really know too much about the Force.
Anyways, I think the Midi-chlorian idea was actually good in one way, but still silly. It seems like an attempt at explaining why almost all organic races can use the Force. We have Humans, whatever Yoda was(seriously, Lucas imposed an edict on the EU to never explore his race's backstory), Kiffar, Chalactans, Mirial, Ishi Tib, Mikkian, Iktotchi, Twi'lek, Thisspiasian, Quermian, Lannik, Besalisk, Iridonian Zabrak, Kel Dor, Neti, Cerean, Nikto, Roonan, Tholothian, Nautolan, Ongree, Rodian, Togruta, and several unnamed races.... Hmm... no Hutts.... yet. Maybe as a Darksider? A Hutt would totally revel in the power of wielding the Force.
So yeah... it does kinda make sense to come up with an explanation that crosses species boundaries.
Actually, there was a Hutt Jedi. I vaguely remember something about Sarlaccs and the Force, too...
Link plz? I actually checked the list of Hutts on the wiki. Hmm... maybe the Hutt category too? I did see a Hutt who collected Jedi stuff, but he lacked the ability to use the Force. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Hutts Ah, I guess what I saw earlier was a short list of notable Hutts.
So, I went to this website called "google" and I searched "hutt jedi". This was the very first result:

He wasn't the only Hutt to lose a duel to a Jedi though. There was this guy in the comic books who was cybernetically enhanced to have centipede-like legs. Needless to say that made him much more mobile than Jabba. He also collected Jedi relics...
Watched it finally wish i could get my money back for both the ticket and the gas money spent going to the next town over from where i live.
I came away dissapointed as all i seen was a reboot of a new hope and empire strikes back with a few familiar faces sprinkled in for the nostalgia seekers.
In short its just another typical Jar Jar Abrams dung heap of a movie.

I definitely didn't think it was perfect, and I do agree that it copied a lot of points from ANH, but I also didn't think it was a POS. That said, you aren't "wrong". You are just as "right" in your opinion as the person who loved it. Unfortunately, some people take negative comments about a piece of fiction as personal insults against their mother, so don't be surprised if some of those nuts attack you personally for your negative review.

You're correct, it's Rey, and I think there's a solid possibility.

Actually, it seems that his later behavior was due to falling to the dark side. Looks like he was a decent enough Jedi in the beginning.

The 'flaws' have to be there from the beginning... Look at Anakin: A loving, friendly child, whose fears and weaknesses were manipulated into the most callous and sadistic evil. But even then, there was still good in him... The dark side doesn't make someone evil, it is just the path which an evil person follows...
Still, the fact is that he did manage to be a Jedi for a certain period of time. That ought to count for something.
Oh for sure (and not to use head-canon, that's something I maintain about Marcus) That's not to say that he (Beldorion) was initially 'bad', but there had to be some 'seeds of negativity', which were then got magnified. As with Anakin, his love for others and fear of loss/rejection, was manipulated and twisted into possessiveness, jealousy and suspicious paranoia by Palpatine (and possibly by Darth Jar Jar too ) Perhaps Beldorion had laboured under prejudice and suspicion from others simply because he was a Hutt, and may have eventually succumbed to filling the role others expected him to play...

Possibly.... But there's a lot of angles and possibilities there to examine, and the plot doesn't seem to need her to be related to anyone of importance. Besides... IF she is Luke's daughter, that raises a new question...

Given the fact that her power seems to be on par with other known Skywalkers... I foresee a memory-wiped ex-Padawan from the Skywalker family.

Also.... If Luke is her father who is her mother?
My guess is Kylo Ren killed her mother along with all of the other students when he and his knights destroyed Luke's new academy. This would actually be somewhat in line with how Mara died at the hands of Jacen in the old EU. My theory is that Luke and Rey were away for some reason when Kylo attacked, and since he knew Kylo would be coming for him he decided to hide her away and use the Force to block/hide her memories.

I guess that depends on how you define "same age group". Adam Driver is 32, and Daisey Ridley is 23. However, I believe her character is supposed to be younger than that in the story. Just for the sake of "argument", let's say her character is 18. I think the book says she was left on Jakku when she was 5, so if Kylo/Ben is 30 in TFA, that means he would have been 17 when he turned dark and destroyed the academy, which I think is a believable number for someone who is strong in the force and had been trained since they were young.
Finally got to see the movie. Big crowd movies like this usually takes me a week or 2 after the opening week to see it. So I don't have to worry about fighting the crowds.
So here is my take on it.
Good:
I like the story. Thought it was good for a Star Wars movie. Granted there was some gaps in the story telling where the new First Order came from. And there was a few others as well, but not as bad. So I hope the next part will tell more of these gaps to fill them in. The action was good. I love the flying scenes they was really played out well. The ground action was just as good. And nice to see the old characters again. The new ones I can see making the next series do well with their story. As they wasn't bad on the acting. That could make me cringe on watching it.
Bad:
Han's death, that was really shocking. Even after just watching it, I'm still feeling it a few hours later. But it was kinda predictable, cause way they did the scene. I would been more surprised if they didn't get killed in that spot. Cause even when he went up to talk to him. I was thinking, don't do it Han. He is going to run you through with the saber. The planet killer thing was horrible idea. To me that whole part could been left out of the movie. I felt no "impending fear" off it. And when it blew, I was like what a waste. To me they just wanted to do the New Hope reboot on that part. Seems they would learned their lesson after the first 2 Death Stars was destroyed. Guess the younger generation didn't get smart on that one, just more stupid. The light saber fight was kinda lacking. Either one shows little skill in using them. Then again they both was learning. So I hope the next one will be better on sword fighting skills.
Final thoughts. It was a good movie for the Star Wars series. And something I can enjoy watching again later on. While watching the whole series. Which I do at times. Still I have yet to find a better one than the Return of Jedi. To me that one still my all time favorite.

Wookiepedia says she's 19. And Kylo is apparently about 28-29. But that would mean the Jedi Academy had been destroyed 10 years prior.
Hmm... interesting... Maz Kanata was the actual owner of Anakin's old lightsaber at the start of Ep7.
What does Maz Kanata owning Anakin's old saber have to do with the age of Rey/Kylo and the Jedi Academy being destroyed? As far as canon goes(now), that saber has been missing since ESB when Luke's hand was cut off.
Both Kylo Ren and Rey were untrained--and while Ren had the advantage in training (he had more than Rey), he was extremely undisciplined. So, I did not expect great things out of them combat-wise.
For me, the Starkiller scenes really came off differently...I actually found the firing sequence genuinely horrifying in an immediate, visceral way that was never achieved with the destruction of Alderaan.

You mean Kylo was not *fully* trained. However, as you admit only a few words later, he was not UNtrained. He trained under Luke and then under Snoke, and the training under Luke was presumably for several years.
Kylo was also shot in the stomach only a short time before the fight. The fact that he put up as good a fight as he did in that condition is something to keep in mind.
So what do you guys expect to happen in Episode VIII? Considering how closely this one followed A New Hope I think it is very possible that they will mimic aspects Empire Strikes Back. Although I fully expect that whatever happens Luke will pull an Obi-Wan and die so that Rey can step out of his shadow. I also bet Phasma will be the Boba Fett of the movie, focused on capturing Finn.

Hmm... I think Luke is the new Yoda, IE the old master Jedi. But both Obi-wan and Yoda died, so.... maybe? I wonder if all the old cast will die before the end.
Obvious story threads:
Luke will train Rey.
They explore who Rey is. IS she Luke's daughter? If not, who is she?
We find out more about the plans of Snoke and the First Order. Given Snoke's reaction to their failures in ep7, I kinda think this wasn't their trump card..... which kinda scares me actually. What was Snoke's plan B? He definitely has one.
More about the political situation, Why did the New Republic worry so much about the Hutts? It seems odd especially if Leia was giving them intel on the First Order... I suspect the Republic has changed their minds about which is the greater threat. Hard to say what they'll do though.
Kylo will continue trying to become a true master of the Force instead of a powerful novice. I kinda suspect that despite his power Kylo never had the focus required to properly learn to use the techniques uncle Luke taught him. Maybe he'll do better once he either learns focus, or learns Dark Side powers that are more compatible with his personality.
Also, we'll probably see Poe again.
Hmmm..... aside from that.... Oh yeah, the Knights of Ren. We don't know much about them yet. How many are Force users? We'll almost certainly see them again.
As for the over-arching story that this plot threads are woven around... Hmm... It does give one reason to wonder. I'd say we end up in a more conventional war and find out just how many ships the First Order has managed to acquire over the last 30 years.... and how much of the Old Imperial fleet they still control.
I grew up in the 80's and 90's, and love the Original Trilogy, I must've watched them hundreds of times in my very early teens.
I was pretty much Star Wars obsessed, and went on to read the first 30 or 40 Expanded Universe novels (Approved by Lucas).
So one could say, I was a super fan. Its a time in my life I'll fondly remember.
Then sometime in 95' (or 96') to my great delight, news came that Prequels were indeed on their way, and set to be released in 99'.
The wait was long, and the hype was huge. I devoured even more EU material.
Finally the day had arrived, I was ready, packed with all the knowledge of the Star Wars Universe, and a great hunger to see the series anew.
What happened next, was one of the most unfortunate occurrences in life, when one of your passions finally comes to an end.
The movie was awful in my mind, and was incongruent with a lot of what I had read in the EU.
Simply put, it did not feel like Star Wars to me.
I was confused and lost, eventually turning away from what I had so loved.
The remaining 2 episodes of the Prequels, did little to rekindle my love of Star Wars.
I went so far as to exclude them from what I called Star Wars. While still loving the Originals, I turned away from the Universe at that point.
Many years have past, and I'm a grown man now.
Seemingly out of the blue, Lucas sells his IP to Disney in a blockbuster deal.
The rumours emerge, and a hype campaign like we've never seen is assaulted on the public.
There will be another Star Wars: The Force Awakens...
Something "awakened" in me at that point. I was ready to forgive.
Shortly after the reboot was announced we also heard that the EU was being relegated to "Legends" status.
So for someone like myself, who'd read many of them, I felt slightly betrayed.
But, I was willing to admit, it might work out for the best. (Even though it annoyed me they would do that to a fan base, by telling them, "No, none of this ever happened" even though the EU was approved by Lucas as Canon - but that's another conversation for another thread).
I was still pretty excited.
It was a New Hope for the franchise, and it was one more chance to recapture some of the old fan base who'd left.
After seeing it tonight, I can say, I genuinely love the new protagonist characters, Finn and Rey.
They will carry the series for the next generation.
There was more then its fair share of fanfare, and nods to the Originals, and even some to the Prequels, which for the most part were done tastefully, if a bit over the top at times.
The atmosphere and scenery really did feel like (Original) Star Wars for the most part.
Though, slightly new, for a new generation.
Abrams even went so far as to add in a Cantina scene that featured plenty of Puppet prop aliens, as seen in the original cantina.
While also mixing in some newer CGI animations.
I think that was a very nice nod to the Original trilogy. And the magic those puppet had on the screen.
While the castings seem to be more millennial oriented (like you would see in the Hunger Games/Twilight), it wasn't as "Twilighty" as it could've been. Thankfully, the younger cast don't go to far down that path.
Though, I would've preferred a darker, less hipster feel to some of the characters.
Excluding Finn and Rey of course, they were truly amazing.
The story itself is fairly predicable, and feels somewhat rushed. There's just so much happening in such a short time, and such large plot holes, that it would be impossible to do it justice in it's fairly short screen time.
With the next 2 films they should be able fill the very large plot gaps and question marks, but they've got a lot of ground to cover yet. So it's quite possible they may not stuff it all in without rushing things along.
The pace of plot is dizzying, and is enough to make a Wookie's head spin. Hopping from planet to ship to planet, in a seemingly non-stop action sequence. Barely taking the time to enjoy itself.
At times it seems as if they are trying to keep the audience from getting bored.
Coming to the conclusion of the film, I was thinking this had been a fairly solid offering.
And then I saw what I didn't ever need to see....The death of Han Solo.
At this very moment, I'm still in shock.
{I'm upset in the way they wrote him out, I'm upset the end for Solo is uninspiring, and flat. I'm upset the scene itself, elicits almost no emotion, other then "Huge Mistake JJ"}
I'm upset that his death was so uninspiring that I felt almost nothing, other then confusion.
In the end, there are 2 sides of the coin to Star Wars The Force Awakens. A light side and a dark side.
There was good and bad. And the end result comes out Grey.
And while much better then the Prequels IMO, I still say long live the originals.
If you're an old Star Wars fan like myself, you might just feel that this series is better left to a new generation.
That's who it's certainly aimed at. The death of Han only cements that, effectively splitting the link to the past, so a new story can continue.
One which I may watch and follow along, but will never appreciate like my first true love, the Originals.
May the Force be with you.
Not really, he went out in compassion. He tried to turn his son back to the Light Side of the Force, although he failed, he felt the good deep within him, he wanted his son back, Ren may have believed he couldn't change, but he'll think twice soon enough. THAT is the inspirational part I think went with the death of Solo.

So, I went to this website called "google" and I searched "hutt jedi". This was the very first result:

Ah, Star Wars EU strikes again!
Just a nit.... that is called "Star Wars Legends" now.
The "EU" is now considered all the stuff that ties into "Awakens" and beyond.

He wasn't the only Hutt to lose a duel to a Jedi though. There was this guy in the comic books who was cybernetically enhanced to have centipede-like legs. Needless to say that made him much more mobile than Jabba. He also collected Jedi relics...

Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.

I was thinking that until my sister pointed out they look around the same age group though.

Hmm... interesting... Maz Kanata was the actual owner of Anakin's old lightsaber at the start of Ep7.

What does Maz Kanata owning Anakin's old saber have to do with the age of Rey/Kylo and the Jedi Academy being destroyed? As far as canon goes(now), that saber has been missing since ESB when Luke's hand was cut off.

That is what I meant. :P
