Can you imagine if you travel in a shuttle with a big size Enterprise-B rotating slowly in space with no lights in the widows.. get inside in zero-gravity and just access the database and try to find out what happend before the last crew man died.
I don't wanna any zombie things, just a derelict spaceship with dark walkways and bodies floating around.
Makes me all giggle of excitement.
I share this sentiment as well . The whole zombie thing has been overdone way too much, besides the Borg to me have always been just a high tech version of zombies anyway. I would prefer an eerier setting as the one described above where you float around the darkened hallways with a bunch of corpses with a mystery to solve and all the while you hear a muffled step from the dark, strange shadows and spooky music. Oh yeah, I would play the hell out of that mission!
or go one step further and have 'The Amityville Horror' in space via possessed spaceship
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"

Interesting idea of the Enterprise-B's crew being lost due to an infection. But IMHO, it has to be a new kind of angle that hasn't been done in Star Trek already. We seen:
Retroviuses causing evolution and devolution.
Infections like the PSI 2000 virus (the one that made people go nuts / drunk).
The Klingon Augmentation Virus.
Viruses used in species propogation.
Macrovisues.
Zombieism (too cliche).
I could think of a virus that swaps gender, but that wouldn't cause a ship crew to disappear.
Maybe a virus that activated Vulcan pon farr and the Enterprise-B crew failed to stop it in time and everyone on board was murdered? And we board it to find agressive Vulcan survivors. But aggressive Vulcan episodes been used too often that even in a horror episode it would be too cliche.
Or maybe mix that up and instead something that made Caitians go feral and murdered the crew?
the biggest problem with any of these ideas really is we're discussing them on the weekend when no devs or trendy are about :P by monday itll be page 3
I would love to see some kind of psionic reactive virus being found on the ship. Like the virus when it infects non-psionicly senstive races it merely is like most fever-like illness, and passes after some time as would be normal with such a illness, while also though the mind an personality of the infected are rather weakened to psionic-influence. Than when the virus actually infects a psionic capable race even if they are very weak psionically, the virus super powers that capability an almost links the infected psionic victim with the other infected into somewhat a hive mind, but also the psionic infected person than slowly begins to have thier psionic capability heightened to where they begin to manifest the fears an dreams of those on the ship linked to them or not.

so let's try to get this thread to three pages worth before sunday Midnight . so by the time cryptic folks read it . were up to page four ^.
Could be a good Elachi and Solonae story, maybe the crew were taken by the Elachi and Solonae for experimentation and conversion
"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."

Well yeah. They get too many implants, suffer too much Essence loss... and turn into instant cyberzombies. Of course, for some reason they forgot wired reflexes... and you always want wired reflexes, chummer.
On the other hand, tripping across a group/colony/ship of Assimilated Caitan/Ferasans could be something new... maybe give them a Stealth Module and Pounce that also applies Assimilation Nanites? Could be interesting as a special Event adversary, but if we face them too often it'd ruin the novelty. Of course, that's completely unrelated to the Enterprise B...
Back to that topic, though, I think it'd be neat encounter the derelict and investigate the infection that claimed its crew. We could even backtrack from a Ferengi/Talaxian salvage ship, having received their distress signal and dealt with their infected crew... or something else entirely. For all we know the infection could be a psionic one, consuming the minds of the crew and using telepathic species/characters as an incubator... and maybe the Ferengi brain structure somehow causes a mutation that makes it even worse?
If something like this does become the new "Halloween Special" for STO it won't happen quickly; as much as we'd enjoy something like this, unless it is already in development the usual turnaround time just isn't fast enough to see it this year.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.

When I think of "anniversary event", I don't think of "find a derelict iconic ship filled with skeletons, with power failing everywhere, creepy noises and people snapping and screaming wanting to get out or trying to kill/infect you".
Give me that mission for Halloween and you have a deal, though.

Well the OP asked for an anniversary event... somehow we twisted the theme to Halloween event, even tho we know that aint gonna happen when we're already almost 1/2 way into oct
I am not sure of the name of that episode but is that name from original series where they carry the guy to the transporter room as he is screaming "Die, die ... everybody die!!" ?
"There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life." - Ten Bears (Will Sampson)

Ooh, sounds like an awesome sample for my next hardstyle song, let me know if you remember the episode
"Wolf in the Fold" Besides the guy screaming "Die die , everybody die" he was also shouting that name "Rejac" over and over, that's where I thought the quoted post came from.
How much of this could get mocked up in the Foundry? Cuz I think it'll be a while before Cryptic makes this happen...
Some questions though,
is it possible you could make the npc's float?
can your character float?
can lighting be changed ?
do you have access to music files for the mission?

I see one big Problem with a Derelict E-B... that mission would be too close to a Mission in Elite Force 2 where you have to board an Excelsior Class Vessel that has been overrun by Aliens, complete with No Energy, Flying Corpses etc.
Any mission set on the 1701-B is going to need TMP interiors.
So, the first question we need to be asking is "Does Cryptic have TMP interiors done, if not, how quickly can they be whipped up?"
From Taco's earlier posts on the matter, the "how quickly" part means we most likely won't have them for this Halloween...
Yet, on that note, because this mission calls for TMP interiors, I endorse it heartily.
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

I agree it would be great even to just a dev post, though some feed back, maybe even a exchange of uideas. Wiht use giving wishes on what we want to see in some of the future halloween events/episodes/arc even would be nice.
yep a transporter accident could have merged Jack the ripper into a crew member, and by the time they figured out that the entity was jumping person to person it was too late. eventually jack sets up shop in the computer, and maybe with his dying breath the Chief engineer disables the warp and impulse drive, stranding jack for our intrepid captains to discover

i would heartily endorse this if it were TWOK interiors, i like the color scheme from TWOK better.
dunno, i've never seen the movie before; only ever heard scattered bits about it, mainly that it brought back some kind of demon-like entity from a hell-like dimension
but that wouldn't fit amityville horror, because the ship itself would need to be demonically possessed for it to fit, not just having a demon roaming its corridors
and in keeping with the theme, there would need to be a portal to hell somewhere in the lower decks of the ship, preferably something well-shaped that barfs black sludge all over the place when disturbed
