Because it annoys me when certain writers will set up plot points to ignore later on or forget their own writing a year or so later. That didn't happen here so it's good.

    That's the one, thanks.

Artan42: They did that? Ah for heaven's sake. I knew Gallifrey had tamed a black hole for a power station, but portable ones? (I've actually not watched Doctor Who before these last two series, everything earlier I know is from hearsay and a fun book I once read about how many of the things in the series might be scientifically possible and if so how.) In that case, they probably don't expect people to need any justification beyond "she's a Time Lord nuff said". Although it's still quite likely that she has a base or a concealed Tardis, because she is the Master, therefore has at least five aces up her sleeve, Q.E.D. Grylak: Hey, I'd forgotten about the chameleon circuit. So it's entirely possible that the Master has a SHAPESHIFTING Tardis! Fun!

It's called the Eye of Harmony. Rassilon created it and harnessed it to create Time Travel, it's what powers each TARDIS. We've seen it twice in Who, once in 8's movie where it was a large vortex spinny thingy and once in a Smith episode where it was the perpetual collapsing heart of a star, and looked like a giant star in the centre of the TARDIS. But it was first mentioned way back in one of the classic who episodes. So yeah, Time Lords basically have black holes powering their time travel machines. But then again, Romulans also do that with their ships.

Overall.... I really liked this episode. A good satisfying conclusion that kept internal sense and didn't just have the Doctor say "I knew you'd do that!" And I really, really loved the design and voice of the Fisher King. Excellent work to the costume department on that one.

The Eye's of Harmony on the TARDIS's (seen in 'The Enemy Within') linked to the main one Omega created on Gallifrey (the entrance is seen in 'The Deadly Assassin') after this was destroyed the power source for the Doctors TARDIS was his own Eye (seen in 'Journey to the centre of the TARDIS'). That was mentioned, behind the scenes, to have been created by the Doctor using the Hand of Omega ('Remembrance of the Daleks') just in case the main one was lost. It's a star kept on the boundary between black hole and supernova.

It felt like a horror at times with the ghosts, the ghost dragging the axe was a really nice touch.
I do agree on the fisher king costume, very nice design and horrifying at the same time.

I liked it and I have to say it is astonishing how much better these two were compared to the Moffat-mess we got before. Still, I liked part one better. The "hologram" cop-out was too much and not much better than "trolol I knew it all along" - I guess I really don't like "hologram" resolutions outside of plausibility. Sure, we have kinda official word that Dr. Who doesn't make sense (while Star Trek doesn't as well in real-science terms, but it tries to provide internal consistency). And yes, my wife mocks me about it but I don't like the sunglasses and yes it's out of spite. But I'm a pig-headed sow in that regard pig-28.gif

At least there was some establishment for the hologram in part one. And a nice brief recall back to it in dialogue. Which is why I'm fine with the hologram. It used something that was established earlier in the story rather than going "Har har! I knew it all along and I knew your plan wouldnt work so I just played along like a fool and gave away a ton of regeneration energy!"

That is true, I'm not saying it came out of nowhere. Albeit in hindisght it's introduction/first usage in the first part now seems very forced as they probably never use that trick again.

You're correct though, they're bad. A really bad idea. They may be situationally useful (like the psychic paper) but as a replacement for the Sonic Screwdriver they're bad.

I liked David Tennant's Doctor having a number of gadgets for different situations available (the 3D-glasses in particular). Despite the screwdriver being able to do everything and anything, I liked that. But foldign everything together in one pair of glasses seems not a good idea to me. And I miss the screeeeewdrivaa!

They're easy to lose, or get mixed up with other glasses, or get scratched, or something. And they have no proper looking computer connection, they were jammed into a USB port in the last episode in a way that looks as stupid as it sounds.

I'm not sure who's responsible (hehe 'who' :p) it could be Capaldi (he came up with the guitar) or Moffat (who comes up with silly bollocks on a regular basis).

I blame Moffat, because I love blaming him pig-2.gif

I have absolutely no problem with the guitar, but it's hard to integrate it - the way the first episode did it was just painful and awkward. This time though I liked it, a kind of "breaking the fourth wall" moment, I'm okay with those from time to time. And I like the Doctor liking the guitar, Capaldi seems to be an admirer of rock I can agree with pig-2.gif - I'd even take it as the central plot point, the Doctor having to rock a concert for whatever reason, he can even destroy the Cybermen (again) with some nifty riffs - but those glasses... pig-37.gif

I didn't go into it before but I loved that opening. Capaldi has a way of just running through exposition (forth wall breaking exposition at that) in a way that makes it interesting.

Plus that electric version of the theme was bloody good, I dislike the normal one, it's too wishy-washey for me and don't like the credits either (8's is still the best them and opening credits).

Anyone else wondering if we are done with the whole 'promised land' thing? I just can't see any connection between Missy's Nethersphere, and all those robots scouring the galaxy for paradise.

Anyhoo... I liked ep 4. Not as good as ep 3, but this two parter didn't trip over itself like the last one did.

Moffat says he's sure the screwdriver will be back; he just feels a character as eccentric as the Doctor should mix things up just because he can from time to time (though he promised nothing, so you never know I guess).

Yes. Thankfully it doesn't appear to be carried over here. It was an odd theme to start with. It's already been established in the DW universe that once you die, that's it, there's nothing after.

If Moffat actually pulls a, well, Moffat and completely ignores this plot he built during the last series I'd actually get a good laugh out of it. Whatever one may think about the theme, just dropping stuff like that is admitting utter defeat as a writer.

Anyone else wondering if we are done with the whole 'promised land' thing? I just can't see any connection between Missy's Nethersphere, and all those robots scouring the galaxy for paradise.

        that was so last season

Yes. Thankfully it doesn't appear to be carried over here. It was an odd theme to start with. It's already been established in the DW universe that once you die, that's it, there's nothing after.

that's why the doctor was puzzled.

He was also puzzled by the fact that he had two cases of robots searching for this promised land. In space ships. That's the bit I'm still wondering about anyway. It just seems totally unrelated to Missy and the Cybermen.

This time though I liked it, a kind of "breaking the fourth wall" moment, I'm okay with those from time to time. And I like the Doctor liking the guitar, Capaldi seems to be an admirer of rock I can agree with pig-2.gif

I like Capaldi's doctor, very eccentric and very intelligent but who is not afraid of breaking the rules

All the best bits of 4 and 6. Very alien, very bombastic and darkly heroic.

A massive improvement over Matt Smith, Capaldi had a weak season 8 but season 9 he's been very good
