It was a rather nice finale for Clara and yes, Targ tears have been shed pig-12.gifpig-2.gif
However, as basically every time a Moffat episode was show this year, it really falls apart the more I think about it and it doesn't help that I really, really dislike Maisie Williams' appearance on the show. Her character just doesn't make sense. So she her character is immortal due to a field med-pack issued to Mire warriors by default - shouldn't all of them be able to outlive time now? Yes I know they can still die, but that she survives everything until the end of time (weren't we at the time already, by the way? At least once? I know Moffat wiped everything prior to series 5 from canon or something with his stupid nonsense but still). I really didn't get the impression that she was so special in the first place. Her whole appearance just seems to be "Woo! We got Maisie Williams!" - it doesn't help that inr eality, ratings declined and the BBC is rumoured to actually think about reducing the doctor to a four episode sherlock-esque series and the next doctor will be a young guy for the teens to marvel at again, so they thought bringing Mrs. Williams in the mix will save them. Well, meh.

Yes, seeing the classic TARDIS was a very nice retro-touch. I'm not thrilled to see River returning, but that's me being biased. I basically hate everything with a few exceptions that happened during Smith's Doctor to the degree that I actually wanted to stop watching at all. I'm glad I didn't do that since Capaldi's Doctor and Jenna Coleman's companion were a brilliant team up and Clara really grew up becoming the first (in my opinion) companion with a strong independent presence instead of just being "the companion", maybe next to Rose and Martha (the latter however suffered greatly from the unnecessary love interest plot). I can't say much about the classic companions as me and my wife just watched the first doctor (Still a shame Susan was never mentioned in the "next gen" series) and never got around to watch more than a few episodes of the rest, but yeah. We loved clara pig-2.gif

And an entire series without the pater noster gang? Really? The only thing show runner Moffat brought us which was good? pig-7.gif

I thought she just said she couldn't get the chameleon circuit working, not that it was broken. Honestly, I thought it was a nice send off for Clara. I'm satisfied that although it took away from her emotional goodbye, the fact it was Time Lord Tech that did it means I can justify. If they didn't go to Gallifrey, I would have been very upset. Overall, I liked the episode. And yes, I was half expecting some Toclafane to pop up as they are around at the end of the Universe. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed that. The only thing that annoyed me was the General getting shot and regenerating for two reasons: We lost that awesome actor and was replaced by someone with very little screen presence, and Moffat used it to do another gender changing regeneration. I don't know why, but that whole concept is really bugging me. Oh, yeah, and it shows the Doctor is ok with forcing a Time Lord to use up a regeneration. But he was completely unhinged at that point. Although I wouldn't have done anything with Rassilon. There was no point in him being there, they should have just left it vague with him having dissapeared after his End Of Time plot failed so bring him back at some point in the future properly. Although yey, Gallifrey is now back in the sky.

    YEY SCREWDRIVER is back!!!

I would have exploded with joy if the Doctor had kept that console room (or even that TARDIS) for a bit.

But I just think he does.

Lets say in a few millennia Clara decides it's time for her to die, so she parks the TARDIS she stole back on Galifray goes and grabs some red robes then bobs back down to the place she stored it originally and redirects the First Doctor and Susan to take it instead of the one they were initially going for.

Whilst I do really like this theory, I can see two possible reason that this might not be the case.

A: The Doctor's Tardis has been noted, numerous times, as being an older, obsolete model. I didn't get the impression that the new, stolen, Tardis was anything other than a new model.
B: It doesn't seem very much like either Ashildr or Clara would be willing to give it up. And even when Clara finally decides that she needs to return to the moment of her death, Ashildr will probably want to keep it.

Although to be fair, in contradiction of the above, Ashildr's reference to the chameleon curcuit being broken might support your theory. Although it could equally be taken as an indication that Tardis chameleon circuits are unreliable in general.

It isn't old yet is all I can think of for that bit. I also don't think Clara will allow Me to keep it. Also, the Doctors TARDIS is the only one ever shown with a broken CC.

Also, end of time, where were the Toclofane and the Humans with fangs? Where was the Master, either Yana or Saxon from 'The End of Time'? Why is Rassilon (a Time Lord god) now the Doctors TRIBBLE? You're not getting him off of Gallifray just because a bunch of ground troops crossed a line in the sand.

Sorry, my point was there was a lot of stupid moments that the Immortal Me brought to the forefront.

Ms. Williams, she's not married as far as I can be bothered to check :D.

Ordinarily I'd not mind a reduction as it might bump up the quality however the last time they did that was the 10th Doctors final run ('The Next Doctor' to End of Time Part II') and only one was great ('The Waters of Mars').

I also dislike River just because she's so super-special-awesome, the same reason why I disliked Clara until 'Day of the Doctor'. Just for once I'd like a companion who isn't the mostist specialist person in the Universe. We've had one since 2005 and that was Martha. Or just go all out with the special awesome and bring back Jack :D.

If you want to watch it seriously I'd recommend watching from 'Spearhead in Space' to whenever you get tired out. The 3rd Doctor's run is (in my opinion) the most consistent of all Doctors and maintains a solid feel all the way through. Plus, from that point on, all episodes exist and are in colour. Also you get the best Doctor first :D.

JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

I just remembered something that really bugged me: How did the Doctor remember and have the horror of those 4 billion years? I thought he got reset every few days/weeks?

You can tell without knowing everything before. She just seems in there to push ratings, at least that's my guess. And the "end of time" made me a bit angry because, yeah, you cannot use a thing ove rand over again and expect it to be super epic every single time.

Amen to that. It was especially infuriating with Amy, but as I said almmost everything during 11's time was cringeworthy. Rose was kinda okay-ish, I really loved it later on, but always having an even more most super special person in the entire universe got old quickly pig-2.gif

Certainly, thanks for the advice pig-1.gif The first doctor was a given because otherwise I feel it'slike watching Star Trek without knowing TOS or "The Cage".

@grylak he doesn't. He realises how long it's taken every time he reaches the final room. And also when he finally breaks out.

I'm starting to agree as her character seemed to be completely random with no direction of efficiency in writing.

I struggle to think of any of the classic companions that reached the levels of insanity the new ones did.

Because of the lack of flow caused by the missing episodes I recommend simply watching a few of the first two Doctor's episodes (or serials)
    First Doctor
'An Unearthly Child' (4 episodes, but only the first is worth it)
    'The Daleks' (7 episodes)
'The Edge of Destruction' (2 episodes)
These three form a loose arc
'The Aztecs' (4 episodes, the original 'fixed point in time' story)
'The Sensorites' (6 episodes, and the basis of the Ood)
'The Dalek Invasion of Earth' (6 episodes, so much better than 'The Daleks')
    'The Time Meddler' (4 episodes)
    'The Tenth Planet' (4 episodes)

    Second Doctor
    'The Moonbase' (4 episodes)
'The Tomb of the Cybermen' (4 episodes)
    'The Abominable Snowmen' (6 episodes)
    'The Ice Warriors' (6 episodes)
'The Enemy of the World' (6 episodes)
'The Web of Fear' (6 episodes)
    'The Invasion' (8 episodes)
    'The War Games' (10 episodes)

Re: Me... I've read a lot of beef about Maisie Williams, but I didn't have any problem with her (I did miss the first episode she was in) I've never seen an episode of Game of Thrones, however, so maybe it's because I'm not subconsciously comparing the two characters...

I mean, probably because it was rather... unspectacular. Like "Hmm, okay pig-39.gif". I'm not very fond of melody pond making a comeback and I hope there's something to the rumour that Moffat wants to take his leave which is he brought her back, but meh.

Because I didn't get round to watching it until this morning :D.

I thought it was mediocre in the extreme. I suppose if you like River Song it might have been good, if you don't then it will have been bad. I could't really care less or more for her so the episode felt pointless.

I also really loath Matt Lucas though but love Greg Davis, so the guest stars evened out for me.

Not really a lot to say though other than it seems that is the final end to River now. There's nowhere else to go now except the Library.

Yes, they kinda just said the words to save everything, they don't share any kind of relationship or even personal moments aside from maybe the Doctor playing married man, but he doesn't really get it. Which fits his character, but it's all just so superflous.

I thought they only got married to... um... fix time or something!? I honestly can't remember the reason why, but I'm sure it was for plot reasons and Moffat being far too clever again rather than for socially conventional reasons.

It just drags on far too much. I don't like my Doctor Who grounded. I like the ability to move from planet to planet and time to time without the same people and plots being present in them. The only continuity the show needs are the companions (and there should be more than one of them at a time) and that's it.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

oh please. I loved that scene when River realises that the 13th Doctor is her husband and she goes "ohh TRIBBLE..." and turns around to see him saying "Hello sweetie."

it was a nice way to end a twist, but the beginning was a bit rushed.

I just saw. I'm still not sure if this is a good thing or not. I didn't mind his producing style and the fairy tale theme he ran, but most of his writing (especially his generic female characters) felt a little weary.

As far as I am concerned I don't know wether it could become any worse as I really dislike his overall style. Even if that guy who directed ST: Nemesis took over and the doctor runs around with akimbo machine guns and shoots purple trolls it would be better than Moffat's arcs pig-26.gif

The arcs are part of the story, something I'm not so keen on. However the general fairy tale theme was something I did like. Similar to Hinchcliff and Holmes and their Gothic run or Cartmals (Sp?) mythology.

Ok, bit of news. Only the Christmas Special will air this year, no series 10 'til Spring 2017 which will be Steven Moffat's last.
Chris Chibnall, creator of Broadchurch will be taking over for series 11.

This is why I'm thankful that there are other ways to get my Doctor Who fix. Thank you novels and Big Finish audio drama's, plenty coming up there to keep me going 'til crimbo

Painfully disappointing. In a sea of unimaginative drivel soap-operas and brain-dead reality TV shows, Dr Who is one of the VERY few decent shows left that is worth making an effort to watch.
(keeping min mind that I don't have Sky or anything of the like as refuse to pay their ever-increasing charges).

I would probably recommend Netflix. You don't get everything, but you get a lot, and they also make their own stuff, and it's generally good, because they sell their subscription service to you, not advertisement space to marketers.

If you're into comic book TV shows, Jessica Jones and Daredevil are great. And their shorter format allows a form of story-telling you usually get neither on TV or on the big screen. (Though it is not that uncommon for British TV, I think, where they aren't married to stuff like "enough episodes for syndication" and what-you-have.)
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.

I don't blame you there, I can get some Sky channels with the Youview set top box from Talktalk for between £5 and £15 a month depending on which packages I choose and what deals are on, it's a hell of a lot cheaper
