Wil Wheaton would never come aboard STO to play Wesley, in this game or anything else. Of course he'd be open to playing a different character in any Star Trek media.

"New Dawn will focus on the exploration of space's unknown vastness, with the game's story arc set to extend beyond 2016"

I wonder how this will differentiate between characters. I mean the Federation going out and exploring strange new worlds makes perfect sense, but what about the Klingon Empire? Aren't they more likely to go out and subjugate?

See, there's a version of Star Trek broadcast in each of the major powers' areas, but the opening monologue varies slightly.

    Federation: "Explore strange new worlds"
    Klingon: "Explode strange new worlds"
    Romulan: "Exploit strange new worlds"

Otherwise, the shows are more alike than you would think. Perhaps we are not so different, you and I.

BTW: Question for whoever runs the spellcheck on this forum: Why does the word "Klingon" not trip the spellcheck warning, but the word "Romulan" does? Sci-fi racism once more rears its ugly head!

"a new story well begin with a new enemy & temporal technologies!"

I really hope the Tholians become involved because messing with the Mirror Universe and stealing technology from the future was totally their thing. I want to know what they've been doing with all that stolen 29th century tech!

    Plus 10 on that one.

Go for Tholians go for the Tarantula;)

This would be a good time to introduce Champions' Nemesis System for our Mirror selves.

To conquer new world you have to explore them as well. It is a big misconception that "Exploration" means unarmed, friendly observation. Humanities most prominent explorers were, after all, conquerors. The Klingon Empire and the Romulans have to undertake exporation attemts of their own to not fall behind the UFP, it's more a kind of arms race. And both of those powers need exporation ships of their own, it wouldn't make sense otherwise. So exploring strange new worlds for both (or two and a half) factions makes sense. I just hope t is a truly dynamic experience and not strictly a "bue talks and red shoots" approach. Once again, "Birth fo the Federation" is a great example - the factions would encounter new worlds and start off at different terms with those governments and cultures. Klingons encountering Nausicaans start off with a better diplomatic score than the UFP encountering them because they have more in common. Klingons encountering Vulcans would start off worse than Humans. Just because I play a Klingon doesn't mean I want to shoot every breathing thing in the face right away.

Cardassian storyarc will be revamped and provide the back story for much of the new content.

    Excellent. This was needed.
DS9 interior map is getting a revamp, but will not be ready for Season 11.

Shame it won't be ready for Season 11 but the more time they put into it, the better it should look. I'm excited to see it and hopefully it's more open. I wonder how the new DS9 will work with old episodes? Will they update the 2800 episodes to include the new map?
We will definitely see Tholians, and there is a very important reason why. Tholians are attracted to MU/time travel rifts. Tholians do not see a difference between our universe and the mirror universe.

YES! I'm still excited for more Tholian content. I also wonder if this means that there are no Mirror or Prime Universe Tholians? There would only be one Tholian Assembly which exists in both universes simultaneously? That would be an interesting concept.
There will be a new rep system associated with the Mirror Universe. It involves technology from "House Pegh" episode.

So Terrans getting their hands on Iconian tech? Omega perhaps?

Okay I'm confused. At some points they say that the Admiralty system involves our old ships, and the official announcement specifically says our inactive ships.
But at other points they're saying it's some silly trading card game with hero ships? Which is it?

If it's the former, I'm totally excited. If it's the latter, I'll be extremely disappointed.

    • The admiralty system will allow you to acquire/send ships on missions, even though you do not actually own the ship. Al Rivera gave "The Enterprise" as an example, like a "gold foil card" playing card.
    • Mission failure will result in damage to ships, and larger ships take longer to repair than smaller ships. You can pay dilithium to speed up the repairs.

The first one is intriguing, and flies directly in the face of what the system was announced to be; something to do with your unused ship roster. This is potentially a saving grace for the system, because limiting it to usused ship purchases is going to be a sticking point for a lot of people who don't want $30 a piece DOffs. On the other hand, the example of "The Enterprise" is... questionable. The example is an individual hero ship... there's generally only one Enterprise in service at a time. This could mean that "playing card" ships to help supplement your roster are few and far between. Though this is definitely better than locking the entire system behind purchased and unused ships, it's tough to tell how much better.

The second... ugh. I don't think anyone likes Cryptic's constant embrace of timers with dilithium shortcuts. And this also raises the question; if we're using ships on our roster, and they get damaged on these assignments, are they unusable until the assignment is done? Can we still switch to them? Cryptic has taken our toys away based on timers before (the crafting system) and that didn't go too well, and was eventually removed... hopefully they aren't making the same mistake again.
    • Al doesn't foresee Tier 7 ships on the horizon, there are still a lot of T6 ships they want to explore.

    This is... worrisome.

The main reason a sixth tier needed to be introduced was because they were running out of usable BOff combinations for T5 due to the inherent limitation of only having three departments and five seats. The introduction of Specialization seats with T6 effectively removed that limitation. They can now release ships with a potentially unlimited number of new combinations due to a potentially ever increasing amount and combination of Specializations.

They needed to address the limitations of the system. They did this with Tier Six. That limitation is now gone.

So while he doesn't see T7 "on the horizon" he all but confirmed it eventually. So it's coming, and really there's there's no reason for it... other than the planned obsolescence of our ship rosters so they can sell, say, a T7 Galaxy to go with the T6 Galaxy they sold us to go with the T5 Galaxy they sold us to go with the T4.5 Galaxy they sold us.

    Wonderful.

Ok, I wasn't terribly excited when this system implied use of our own 'parked' ships, but if we have to get new ships just to use for this system...

I'm leaning more toward pessimistic rather than my 'unoptomistic' that I was before. Not sure I'm gonna like this. :|

I actually found that quote kind of strange. Why would they specifically say that the GAME's story arc(not this specific season's story arc) would extend beyond 2016? Isn't that obvious, for any game that is still live and hasn't been shut down?
Because Cryptic has a game (Champions Online) that is still up and running but really doesn't receive new ongoing story content at all. I think they just want to make it clear that new storyline missions and content will be added as a regular pace in 2016 and beyond.

I hope the Traveler They are thinking of using is Berlinghoff Rasmussen.
I hope he escaped or was let go (when he lied and somehow got himself set free) from the Fed Jail Island or whatever.
And he also figured out how to recall the Time-shuttle he had to begin with.
Or better yet, he's working with the Mirror Terrains.
Be pretty cool if They could get Matt Frewer to voice the character.

Matt Frewer is pretty awesome. They should have used him on Star Trek Enterprise. I thought I read somewhere that they were going to have him on there sometime and establish that he was Archer's room mate at some point. Considering the whole Temporal Cold War thing and the fact he steals a time pod at some point, they should have tied it together in some way. Frewer himself would have been older in real life but they could have always done a Back to the Future 2 and assume he used future technology to heal himself.

[*] Feline supplement provides Catians a huge buff.

In one hand i'm happy to see that my favourite character in the Federation will received some love, but in the other i'm unhappy to see that my favourite character in the KDF who is a Ferasan will received nothing at all, again.

Seriously the Caitians have already a vessel and nothing for the Ferasan. How i am supposed to do some role play if i don't have something to play with?
I planned to buy the Atrox but regarding this new information i will put on hold this project to wait if the devs will come out with a better vessel.

As I'm sure you realize, this is really just a Fed vs KDF issue. Feds make up the majority of the playerbase, and are therefore the majority of the customer base. And since Caitians are on the Fed side, they will obviously get more attention than the Ferasans. It sucks, but it's business.

No. Cryptic's policy is you do not have to pay for ANY mission content. You will always be able to play any area/mission in the game for free, though they obviously want you to buy new ships to play it with =P

    Just added to the OP:

Geko has made a few recent tweets on this subject. Apparently, the ships you are using for the admiralty system aren't *really* the inactive ships in your inventory. Instead, they are something like a doff that represents those ships you own:

So that gear or stats of the ship you own do not really matter for the admiralty system...

More or less, but at the same time the KDF has actually ended up with more non-KDF ships than the UFP has ended up with non-Starfleet ships.

    Caitain Ships:
    1. Atrox
    Vulcan Ships:
    1. D'Kyr
    Andorian Ships:
    1. Light Escort (if you want to count the NW:HotN exclusive)
    2. Andorian Escort, Kumari Variant
    3. Andorian Escort, Charal Variant
    4. Andorian Escort, Khyzon Variant

    And...

    Nausicaan Ships:
    1. Vandal
    2. Scourge
    3. Guramba
    4. Scourge Refit
    Orion Ships:
    1. Dacoit
    2. Corsair
    3. Marauder
    4. Corsair Refit
    Gorn Ships:
    1. Phalanx
    2. Draguas
    3. Varanus
    Fek'lhri Ships:
    1. Kar'Fi

So if you include all refits and variants, that's 6 non-Starfleet Federation ships, and 12 non-klingon KDF ships. Without refits and variants, 3 non-Starfleet Federation ships, and 10 non-klingon KDF ships.

Of course, we know the Caitian Carrier exists so Cryptic could sell the blue side a carrier without giving Starfleet a carrier. I'm sure the Andorian and Vulcan ships were introduced since the shows already did a fair amount of the design work for Cryptic, thus taking some burden off them for coming up with designs. Most of the non-klingon KDF lineup is obviously due it being less work to refurbish NPC models to fill out the KDF lineup than it is to make entirely new ships.

So... I suppose the best bet is that if Cryptic ever does a Ferasan plot line in STO (doubtful, but possible) where they need Ferasan ships for NPCs, then some might end up playable for the KDF as a side effect.
