when they do finalize a mobile version it would be good for such a mechanism to either utilize a nap or to have the mobile friendly versions not play animated images automatically, for the sake of people's mobile bandwidth

Oh god no! I hate it! and i can't unsee what i just saw it's horrible make it stop!!!
This is the 2nd or 3rd forum migration STO has had. Every one is worse than the previous one. What next? Black screen w/ green ASCII lettering like we went back to the 1980s monitors? I've seen forums run by individuals who have better forums than this multinational corporation. And it's not like PWE actually wants a forum for us to all TRIBBLE at in the first place. I'm sure they'd dump it in a heartbeat if they thought they'd not lose more money than it takes to run such a bare bones TRIBBLE forum.
Star Citizen uses Vanilla too for their forums. Go there if you want to see what a company that cares about making something look nice can do to their forms. This sorry excuse shows how PWE cares.

Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

Heh...funny--I saw that image right as a violin was playing in the music I was listening to.

But the single worst thing is that the scroll click button does not allow for page scrolling. Please fix.
You have to access the forums directly at perfectworld.vanillaforums.com to be able to use click to scroll.
The arc website is really janky and badly done, using the direct perfectworld.vanillaforums.com removes all the jank.
Thank you! perfectworld.vanillaforums.com IS much less "janky", the forum is usable on my phone now. God forbid they tell us helpful information like that.

I agree, this is much better. Mind you, the Forum still doesn't get any better and the gruesome privacy issues they caused that just get ignored during the weekend (which is really inexcusable) persist, but getting arc out of the picture removes a great deal of TRIBBLE from the overall enormous crappiness.

This is a step in the wrong direction, there's a lot missing that made the old forums work better like the section that told you where all the new posts are. Also it really needs some decoration, it's horribly bland
Ten soldiers wisely led will beat a hundred without a head. - Euripides
I no longer do any Bug Hunting work for Cryptic. I may resume if a serious attempt to fix the game is made.
would be nice to be able to jump straight to new posts since the forum software already notices when ppl post since you last looked... would also be nice to have basic things like page buttons at the bottom of a page and a 'jump to top' button there as well
Using to access the forums improves things quite a bit, as well as scaling properly for mobile. I'm using the gateway now and posting from an old 4' iPhone 5 in portrait mode, and able to read everything, so its getting better already.
I'm updating my opinion to part live beta part user learning curve.
Signatures get cut off on mobile which is great.
I'm liking the forums more and more the more I use them.

I can see a large amount of people leaving the forums and game due to this. All of which means a drop in money.
Good. The type of person that would quit playing a game because he or she doesn't like the forum software is the type of player that's a complete PITA in game with their constant complaining. Add to the fact that most players never use any games forum any losses will be insignificant.
That's a load of rubbish. If you destroy someone's community and/or make the help they used to get hard to use they can get stuck or lose interesting in the game. Its got nothing to do with a type of player constantly complaining. its about ruining a community , ruining a source of information and ruining the help you used to get. Most players might not use the forums, but that doesn't mean those players in game community's are not effected by forums.
A fleet might only have a few % of users on the forums but those users share the info with the entire fleet. So the forum community can impact players not on the forums. For example Player X might not use the forums but get stuck, Player B users the forums and helps player X. That's why the forums matter.

The report function is back, so that's a plus. But the color scheme lacks contrast and makes it a bit difficult to differentiate things. We need thread navigation and reply functions at the top AND bottom. Color table needs to be added for posting.
as time goes I am starting to get used to the new format, there are some things I like about it and there are some things that are not so great but nothing really awful.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
Oh god no! I hate it! and i can't unsee what i just saw it's horrible make it stop!!!
For me, I guess I'd break it down in to the following:
It's not that bad to navigate to the forums themselves, since I usually have the tab open all the time - so it's not a constant thing. I could see where it would be both annoying and frustrating for folks that find themselves having to navigate to the forums.
I don't get the complaints about the color/theme/etc of the forums, as I think I previously linked in this or one of the other threads, it pretty much looks the same. Oh, no doubt the quotes could stand out a little more, imho. I also don't get why the codeblock's been set up as a spoiler sort of thing with the font the same color as the background - that's a wee bit annoying for things. Otherwise, though, the dark grayish bit on the not-quite black background....it's what it was.
I think it's awesome that we can hide signatures, including what appear to be very annoying signature images that folks are using.
I wish we could remove any inline insertion sort of things. I don't want to see images, I'd rather see links to the images. I don't want to see YouTube videos, I'd rather see links to the videos. That sort of thing.
It would also be nifty if we could disable animated avatars. Though, speaking of avatars, it would also be nifty if they were a wee bit bigger than the 40x40 that they are. Those aren't thumbnails, those are pinkynails...meh.
Those are things I'd like options for - cause obviously those are things folks are just raving happily about. It's just a case that I'm not one of them. I still have nightmares of some of the web pages from back in the 90s.../cough.
I don't have much of an issue hitting page up to get to the top of the page, but with some of the scrolling that takes place with longer pages - yeah, navigation at the bottom as well would be pretty nifty.
With the Flag option for posts, I'm not sure why there are only two issues listed there: Spamming & Insulting. There are all sorts of reasons for flagging/reporting a post, and those options should be there, yeah?
I can't really comment on bookmarking, cause I never had to bother with bookmarking things. Broken links to things and the like, well - possibly a case of pointing to things needing to be updated anyway.
At some point, I'll get a hang of the notifications...possibly...so that I'm only spammed about things I care about. It would be awesome for a start, mind you, if something is hidden that we no longer get notifications for it. Part of the whole hiding stuff thing...not wanting to see it...and all that.
The thing that's really a killer is just how horrible the search is with these forums. Sure, there were certain words that were too short or too common with the old forum's search, but the current forum's search is next to useless. It's just mind-bogglingly bad...meh.
Course, there are all the security concerns/bugs brought up by frtoaster and others - those might very well be things to address, yeah?
Oh yeah, and what's up with the filter? I feel like a six year old typing Heck and Darn...lolwut?
Oh god no! I hate it! and i can't unsee what i just saw it's horrible make it stop!!!
Would love to see some feedback on this from whoever is in control of the forums. Is it feasible that we can go back to the previous design? Because I know I will be leaving the forums if it stays like this along with a great many other people I know that have the same feelings.
Just look at this poll, only 3% of voters actually approve.

The look does not matter to me. The Functionality does. The Discussions link at the top is similar to the today's post on the old forums but I do not need to see the threads for all games. This is not the first time people hated a forum change for this game.
The original forums had an lcar feel to them. The hated the look of the forums that we just switched from. I'm sure I could get use to these forums as well if it did the things we want it to.
Who knows maybe over time we will grow accustom to it. Or maybe this is part of their plan to make us use other social media to talk to us on to eventually ditch the forums. Right now http://www.reddit.com/r/sto is looking better to me.

You know why they use "other social media"? Because there are people there that are not in the forums. They need advertisement for all the cool (TM) stuff Cryptic does, too.
Doesn't mean they don't want us to use the forums. These forums have the advantage that they are under strict Cryptic control. But they don't cover all potential customers for STO.
Key thing for me as forum user is that they actually advertise when they post interesting stuff elsewhere. Less convenient then when they just write it here, but more convenient then not knowing about it at all.

Feels like we went through a spatial anomaly that took us back 10 years. These forums feel clunky. Plus if this is the new style, they need to put in options to change your Arc skin color. This black background with bright white reply boxes is literally painful on the eyes. Look away from the screen for minute and you will see how that bright white box has burned into your retina.

No, I'm definitely not a fan of these new forums. They have kind of killed my desire to read/post, but maybe that's a good thing. I'll probably get more done IRL =P

They make a wondrous mess of things. Brave amateurs, they do their part.
Doesn't work on my end.
We come in peace, SHOOT TO KILL!
Can someone please walk me through on how to do that?
Much appreciated.
