I miss the mouse-over on each thread title which used to give a preview of the original post content.
Agreed, but quoting this highlights another missing feature, where the hell is the multi-quote???? And the multi-quote was severely limited...crippled in fact with a limit of three in the old forums. This isn't an improvement at all.
At least the avatar and signature issue seemed to have improved.
I hate these new forums.. first of all.. where is all the historic information? Where is my signature? Where is my post count? Where is my signon date? Where are all the various pvp build information? For that matter, where are the PvP forums? Only at cryptic can you do something like this and not get fired. I mean.. over a week downtime and we get this??? In any other corp, you would have needed to make a working copy of the forums that had all functionality enabled, had data migration (to that point in time) already moved over (and working out the kinks along the way), so that all information was actually moved over to it. But not at cryptic.. the easiest paycheck in the nation!
Check your facts. This isn't Cryptic's work, This is Perfect World Entertainment's doing.
Who cares? They are one and the same in my book

After looking at the Vanilla website it looks like ZERO effort was put into designing the new forum. They would been better for them to buy their own server and use one of the many php CMSs or some other types of CMS.

The problem isn't the software, since other places use it very successfully. The problem is the layout they chose to make the forums.

I agree with you. I put the blame strictly on the web designers of the forum.

Definitely. What web designer doesn't put paging at the bottom and top of a forum thread?
Alternating background colors for posts (one a little darker, the other a tad lighter).
More visible separation between user info, title and post text (inside one post) either with more contrasted lines, or different font size/weight/color
Quotes should be italicized, and displayed with a more distinctive background color - complete black (#000000) would do fine here - with much less contrast between the quote text and its background - quote text could have something like #B1B1B1
Pagination links also on bottom of post list
Quote links should scroll down to the editor on click
Font color picker would come very handy
What I really liked in it:
Ability to hide categories (this one rocks) *****
Edit avatar and crop thumbnail ****
Customization options ***
text editor working very fine ****
Your Plasma Torpedo - Heavy III deals 174321 (66343) Kinetic Damage(Critical) to I.R.W. Valdore.
you can't log in from a browser unless you want to play the sign in redirect game. .
can't find anything recent it's all over the place
can't upload a sig as easy as last forums (maybe just being stupid dunno).
no Dev tracker (yet maybe?).
screen res is all outta whack.
Well on the bright side I can finally use the forums again, the last time they moved forums it did something to my account and i would also get "database errror" if I was logged in and looking at the startrekonline forums. took them like 8 months to come back with "we don't know whats wrong so here is some free zen to go away"
Yet NWN and champions online forum worked fine.
So over all yes I am happy with the new forum as I can use it
Why are there no navigation options at the bottom of the page?
After reading a page, I have to scroll back up to the top to move to the next page.
This is daft. Please fix it.
If they haven't already, someone is going to tell you to use the Home key or PgUp, like they told me. I find that unsatisfactory, so yes, I'm with you: links to the pages of the thread should be at the bottom and the top, as they are in most forum schemes. It's just counterintuitive and frustrating to have to go back to the top in order to move to the next page. And telling us to use PgUp or Home is not a solution, but a copout (or that's what it would be if Staff/Mods told us to do that; in this case, I was told that by another player, which is more of a simper than anything else).
^^ This..... The thing is, something as simple as the navigation option at the bottom of the page OR the option to see the newest post (like in the old version) is very useful to users, the idea is that you as a player can use the forums as a tool to find and learn things, but at the moment i dont find it very user friendly, lets hope that it gets better on time.
Oh god no! I hate it! and i can't unsee what i just saw it's horrible make it stop!!!
I first tried the new forums on my laptop using Firefox. When I logged in the forums created another HTML header at the top of the page and sent me back out to the main page for the game. I tried logging in to the forums again and I had a third HTML header placed at the top and sent out to the main page again. Oddly enough they work in the ARC client but I've yet to see it work outside of that for myself. I'm prefering the old ones at this point since they functioned properly for me in the past without issue.

Wow, this is...well, looks like someone used Microsoft Word 2013 and copied the look. I hope there are changes for this in the future, makes me not even want to view the forums at all...and maybe that is their plan.

It could use these tweaks:
What I really liked in it:

can't find anything recent it's all over the place
can't upload a sig as easy as last forums (maybe just being stupid dunno).

what I do like thus far. . .
you can flag posts
but change can sometimes be good no?
Yet NWN and champions online forum worked fine.

You can use the Discussions link for that.
Don't forget to hide the categories you don't want to read.
There are also nice popup notifications when you wrote to one of the threads.
The way things are quoted is awkward (boundaries are near invisible).
I miss a New Activity view option without including ALL games on Arc (so I can easily just read current topics of Star Trek Online specifically).
Also, a preview of the original post before entering a thread was a nice feature.

That's the most spot on signature I've seen you with yet.
i agree, we need "page next at the bottom", and the quotes must be more visible.
