The thing we already Know: How are these the only ships that have access to Pilot Bridge Officer powers? We have observed Sulu's "Fly Her Apart" on the Excelsior-class, Riker's Maneuvers on the Sovie, and just about all of them on the Defiant. Pilot Bridge Officer powers, described as they have been, should not be limited to "Pilot-Ships"
2. Wings
Why do the Klingons and Romulans have a monopoly on wings? If there ever was to be a Starfleet Ship design that had "wings", this would have been it. A winged federation starship would not interfere with the Klingon and romulan birds. Consider something like this: http://acecombat.wikia.com/wiki/P-1112_Aigaion
I'm a total cheer-leader for Cryptic ships. Concorde-Class, Regent-Class, Venture-Class, Armitage-Class, all beautiful. The Romulan Command ships and the new Dominion bugship are also excellent. I've praised nearly every ship one so far, though these I'm just not getting behind.
Take the Patrol escorts and that Shield/spoiler thing on top extended down......to the nacelles would be a sleek look and pilot worthy? I m Tired of the ship grind, I barely get used to the one I have when SOTA suddenly says upgrade or go PUG....... When you add in the fact that NONE of the bugs from sector transition are completely ironed out as well.......Rolor, Doffs, Rubberbandage in fleets,,,,,,,
The Universe is a messy place, You are born a mess. Sustaining life usually involves cleaning up messes. You die and usually are a mess then too. All of these messes usually involve some blood- get over it.
These are not ships or starships, they are fighters lol. Barrel rolls? Afterburners? Retrorockets? You might as well give these fighters a crew of one lol. I think your going a tad over board on this cryptic. I have to say why did you not go with a KDF bird of prey?

As much as I really want a T6 BOP, I'm actually glad they did not go with a BOP here based off what little info the blog gives. I'll wait on a T6 BOP that is hopefully worth buying. I see no need of these special pilot abilities on a BOP which is already the best handling ship in the game. I still feel that Cryptic missed the mark by not making an intel BOP...
The FED one is the T6 Defiant. I think you can use the classic Defiant skin (just like the T6 Galaxy and Intrepid) as well.
The KDF I was thinking was a T6 B'rel Bird-of-Prey, Hope you can use the classic B'rel skin.
The RRF's just looks like a hanger pet, lol.
All 3 have one thing in common their designs suck. Anyone else feel that the designs of ships and ground armor (like the new Iconian armor set) is getting worse? It peeked with the Odyssey. Afterwards it just went down hill
The first Belfast was commanded by Captain Ve'Kal Shon until its destruction in 2409. A new ship was commissioned bearing the same name and registry as special dispensation to then newly promoted Captain Edward XIII for his pivotal role during the renewed Dominion War.
I doubt this will be any real improvement. Cryptic continues making these SPACE ships like an airplane, unable to turn 90 degrees vertical. These "space ships" mimic an airplane in movement yet can't even do an aileron roll. Kind of sad.

Well, technically these can do an aileron roll... at least according to the dev blog this thread is in response to. They also have afterburners and retrorockets. I have my complaints and disappointments relating to what we know of the Piloting ships at this point, but that bit at least they do have...
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
When you add a Typhoon Battleship T6 and a Kanzo Carrier T6, I will throw my bank account at you Cryptic. Until then, I spend my money on other MMOs which actually add items I love and want to buy, thank you.
While the new pilot vessels are nice, none of them are going to get my characters out of their current rides. Out of the ten, only one is Tier 6. The rest are T5U.
The Jupiter and Typhoon, on the other hand, might be the ones to get a couple of characters into new ships. Mostly because I've been one of the more than a few that have been asking for playable versions, with visual improvements, for ages now.
But why is all the new stuff geared towards those that have the money to spare...
I cannot afford to be using the C-Store, I can't even afford a subscription, but I am a loyal player of the game.. when is that going to be rewarded.
Why not release new ships for EVERYONE and then some Refit/Retrofit ships for those with the cash to spare.
In the last 6 months we have had a free t6 carrier and a free t6 command cruiser.
Next month we get a free risian t6 ship which most likely has pilot abilities.
what I find interesting in this, is that these are so obviously PvP ships-introduced while the PvP community has largely evaporated in this game in it's entirety.
why do I say such? because there's no USE for this in PvE. The most useful ships in PvE can be built blindfolded, and don't require any piloting at all to be successful (well, beyond park-and-faw.)
see, you only need 3 skills to be effective (or dominant) in PvE.
BFAW
APB (Attack Pattern Beta)
EPTW (Emergency power to weapons)
that's it. Put them on an eight-hardpoint ship with 3 or more tac consoles loaded with Antiproton beams and Crit consoles, and your'e done-you don't even need to seat the other bridge officers, set weapons to autofire, tie your buff cycle to your spacebar, and you can watch netflix and never eat an AFK penalty or miss (most) optional objectives, a turn rate of 3 works.
The places where the advertised abilities of these pilot ships would be useful, is in an area of the game that has been neglected-to-death over the last five years, a place 90% of the remaining playerbase will not go, which has also lost 90% of it's playerbase thanks to years of neglect and rampant power-creep that's rendered it pretty much unplayable.
(these don't help, by the way, with that.)
there is literally NO reason to manuever in PvE unless you're flying a ship like these (or the BoP, or the Defiant), and PvP is dead.
dead
dead
dead.
Cryptic killed it. Probably intentionally.
NPC's don't manuever-they follow their scripted path and once you know the mission layout, you're able to park right in the sweet spot, log onto netflix, and wait the requisite few minutes for the instance to end while tapping spacebar.
nice to the point!
18 characters
KDF: 2 tacs, 2 engs, 3 scis
KDF Roms: 3 tacs, 1 eng, 1 scis
FED: 2 tacs, 1 eng, 2 scis

all on T5 rep (up to temporal)
all have mastered Intel tree (and some more specs Points)

OK so you want to put out new bridge officer abilities for pilot skills? thats fine go ahead, but dont ignore the fact that all ships have thrusters to maneuver. Why not build skills for pilots other that the "Rock N' Role" in the specializations. I wouldn't mind grinding to get the skills through that. What are they going to do with all of the useless T5 and T5u ships? How about farther upgrades to give mastery skills? My delta recruit didn't touch one of the T5 ships. why should she no mastery skills? While im actually on the forums, how about providing Kilts for male officers? Oh and Terran Empire Salute would be a nice emote to offer during the mirror invasion event.

The last 2 free event ships were 1. T6 and 2. Provided specialist seating (breen intel carrier last Dec, kobali command cruiser last Feb). Its not hard to imagine that the upcoming summer event is going feature a Risan pilot vessel.
There is plenty of free content to satsify the minimum requirements of a strictly free to play player. Beyond that there's dilithium. Budget and you shouldn't have much trouble affording what you want most from the c-store.

I disagree there's no need for Maneuvering skills; Cryptic making some of the new NPCs now able to use Specialist skills makes maneuvering an convenient bonus for some to have; whether it's trying to evade EMP Probes or escaping out of Ionic Turbulence.
And with how likely these new ships are to grab aggro, a cheap and easy way for them to survive for an additional 3 seconds; maybe long enough to have ET fully recharged and ready to go.
I still don't agree with having a temporary invincibility on the Pilot ships' maneuvers though; I'd rather that it just give 100% Defense (technically Evasion) for 3 seconds before taking into account any NPC or player Accuracy. So the chance to hit would still be there, but lowered due to a sudden unexpected maneuver.

What I really still don't agree with is the fact that it's not possible to use full impulse (or go to warp) while Red Alert is on. If it had been the case in the TV series the Enterprise (or Voyager or Defiant) would have been destroyed countless times.
Given your sig, surely you remember ESD after the anniversary dropped...how it took half an hour to walk from beam-in to the exchange. I'll grant that Season 10 is a bit worse for queued events, but most other places in the game are good. As folks have said above, the people qualified to work on the issue already are, and if there were a silver bullet, we...
...shot ourselves in the foot with it?
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

A "Terran empire salute"? realy? You want a faked TRIBBLE salute in a game that is also played by Kids? I dig the Terran Empire, but only from my "good sith" point of view. :P
I have toons with extensive backgrounds derived from the Terran empire and would love to see a salute to finish it off
